[10:06:11] * jadew just got a paper shredder, my new fav. toy
[10:06:24] <jadew> can't find any more bills to put trough it tho
[10:35:42] <theBear> is it a real one ? you could shred cds or muffins or dollsheads
[10:46:51] <jadew> theBear, yeah, it shreds CDs too
[10:47:11] <theBear> woot woot !
[10:47:12] <jadew> got a paper guilotine as well, gonna try it on some PCBs later
[10:48:41] <specing> Why shred CDs?
[10:48:48] <specing> you can make SHURIKENS!
[10:48:49] <theBear> fwoo, i hope yer don't plan on using it for paper if yer do... and don't mind it having a decent chance of just breaking
[10:48:51] <theBear> lol
[10:48:56] <theBear> SHORYUKEN !
[10:49:44] <jadew> got the guilotine specially for PCBs, I don't mind if it breaks
[10:56:27] <theBear> very good... tips include staying close to the hinge for leverage related reasons, and keeping an eye on things like the 'hinge' (aka shitty cheap bolt) for the first few uses ... it might be fine, but if not you can likely upgrade to pcb quality if you notice BEFORE you bend/tear the crap outta the important parts
[11:14:57] <Tom_itx> jadew, paper cutter works ok on pcb
[11:15:31] <Tom_itx> you gotta hold it pretty tight or it will slip on ya though
[11:18:57] <jadew> good info, thanks
[11:19:23] <Tom_itx> i used one when i did my homebrew ones
[11:19:48] <Tom_itx> it kinda rolls the edge a bit but if you're not using right up to the edge it's fine
[11:20:51] <Tom_itx> don't plan to cut paper with it afterward :)
[11:22:18] <jadew> yeah, I'm sure it'll break soon enough
[11:23:33] <Casper> shred? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvaKfMFoNcI#t=36s
[11:26:16] <vsync_> not enough torque on the shredder
[11:26:30] <vsync_> watching some vw beetle getting shredded
[11:26:49] <vsync_> definately not enough torque, it gets stuck once in a while and changes direction
[11:27:21] <Casper> which is normal
[11:27:33] <Casper> but yeah, I find them lacking a bit in power
[11:27:41] <vsync_> more power
[11:27:52] <vsync_> it's not normal once you have enough power
[11:28:00] <Casper> but it seems to be normal, all the shredders I saw, except the special purpose ones, do that
[11:28:52] <Casper> now... do I bring my full camera kit... or I go lightweight...
[11:29:12] <Casper> I'll go full equip
[11:31:14] <vsync_> Casper: yeah :)
[11:31:40] <Casper> bbl
[13:19:44] <ambro718> hello, does someone have an idea why there would be problems with uart receiver when I port my code from 1284p to 2560?
[14:50:14] <rue_shop2> ambro718, different dividers and clock rate?
[14:50:26] <rue_shop2> different uart flags?
[14:50:45] <rue_shop2> I think if it was 1284 to 2564 it would be seamless
[14:51:17] <specing> bigger pointer sizes?
[14:51:45] <specing> 256 needs 17 bits
[14:51:49] <specing> 128 only 16
[14:55:36] <ambro718> if I set the baud rate to 115200 it works, not 57600... It's probably a problem with the usb microcontroller (it's an arduino mega clone)
[15:17:32] <rue_shop2> Tom_itx, do you know if the 6 pin isp from your usb oprogrammer uses the same pinoput as the 6 pin isp on the dev boards you sent me?
[15:18:36] <rue_shop2> oh I didn't make an adapter, I just popped the chips...
[15:18:37] <rue_shop2> hmm
[15:31:21] <rue_shop2> Tom_itx, what pinout does the programmer use?
[15:49:37] <rue_shop2> heh, yea, its the oldone with miso and mosi swapped
[16:00:41] <inkjetunito> :o~ miso
[16:40:00] <Tom_itx> rue_shop2, it's online
[16:40:36] <Tom_itx> the dev board is likely swapped
[16:42:07] <Tom_itx> http://tom-itx.dyndns.org:81/~webpage/boards/USBTiny_Mkii/USBTiny_Mkii_User_manual_index.php
[16:42:10] <Tom_itx> partway down
[17:32:55] <megal0maniac_afk> Now I remember why I don't like Linux on a desktop
[17:33:39] <twnqx> because the UIs are so much better than windows?
[17:33:40] <megal0maniac_afk> Finally find a distro that works pretty well. But the vsync is awful and screensaver keeps starting while video is playing
[17:34:29] <megal0maniac_afk> And there always seem to be 2 deal breakers
[17:38:26] <theBear> those are hardly dealbreakers, couple quick fiddles i probably coulda said both without ref. material inside of seconds if you asked, to make windows even NEAR to usable you need a lot more than two quick fiddles
[17:38:43] <megal0maniac_afk> theBear: Would you like root ssh access for 10 minutes? :P
[17:40:07] <megal0maniac_afk> I joke. But I haven't used Linux on a desktop for long enough to know my way around issues like these. I've never seen an OS fail to vsync while playing video.
[17:40:09] <theBear> not right now, rushing to get some laptops repaired, but if yer want me to have a peek i will, tho it probably just as fast saying what graphics card or driver you use (to know the right setting for vsync issues) and your media player
[17:40:57] <theBear> some os's give you the option for various reasons including but not limited to efficiency increases due to not waiting for things
[17:41:30] * twnqx stares at tearing-free xbmc on linux output and is happy
[17:41:35] <theBear> hehe
[17:41:46] <megal0maniac_afk> I can see that the vsync is bad just by shaking a window around on the screen, or any quick updates. So any media player exhibits these problems - xbmc included. And I'm using the proprietary nvidia drivers
[17:41:55] <Casper> megal0maniac_afk: vsync issues... do you have an nvidia card?
[17:41:58] <twnqx> uh
[17:42:09] <twnqx> window dragging redraw is not bound to vsync
[17:42:13] <Casper> megal0maniac_afk: nvidia-settings
[17:42:19] <Casper> check the vsync
[17:42:20] <theBear> i'd have to look it up for prop drivers, but if everything does it and bothers you, i'd be tempted to say set it overall
[17:42:34] <theBear> twnqx, it is if you got a compositing desktop
[17:42:51] <twnqx> i sure hope not
[17:42:55] <theBear> oh nvidia-settings, heh yeah, it's been a while, even tho i got a current-ish nv card in the other room
[17:43:10] <theBear> twnqx, you get the option, there are definately reasons the option makes sense for that
[17:44:03] <megal0maniac_afk> No such thing. Closest I get is "sync to vblank" in OpenGL settings.
[17:44:22] <megal0maniac_afk> But anyway, it was more of a rant than a cry for help. This always happens :P
[17:44:48] <theBear> megal0maniac_afk, it won't be in the config/settings menu, it's a 3rd party app
[17:45:10] <theBear> from memory system, but might be accessories, at least, those the standard location for the older version
[17:45:47] <theBear> ffs ! moving around 3gb isos takes too long ! i gotta get a burner on this machine again, wasting all my time PREPARING to fix laptops :(
[17:47:27] <megal0maniac_afk> theBear: Calling nvidia-settings from terminal gives me the same GUI I was using before
[17:47:56] <theBear> oh, i got confused, thought by opengl settings you meant the actual opengl settings, not the nv-specific ones
[17:48:24] <theBear> pretty sure there is another setting, maybe bottom or 2ndbottom 'tab', but now my fingers gotta type for paying customers for a bit :)
[17:51:57] * megal0maniac_afk goes back to Windoze
[17:52:32] <megal0maniac_afk> Although the permissions on my temp directory have gone funny, causing all sorts of problems
[17:52:51] <theBear> what i HAVE learned over the years is, if someone isn't unhappy, don't try to change them ... i only started on you 'cos it sounded like you strived for better things
[17:53:45] <megal0maniac_afk> Well I keep coming back to Linux, which should say something :) I _would_ like it to work, I just don't know how and don't have the time to find out the hard way
[17:54:38] <theBear> that's cool, i was there 12 or 15 years ago, and along with the if someone isn't unhappy, is the whole, someone (might even be oneself) WILL be unhappy if they aren't getting done what needs to get done
[17:57:19] <megal0maniac_afk> While deleting contents of Temp folder: "This folder is shared with other people"
[17:57:28] <megal0maniac_afk> Oh Windows. You've done it again
[17:58:23] <megal0maniac_afk> Linux couldn't possibly entertain me like this
[17:59:25] <theBear> it's true, linux doesn't abuse permissions like windows does, or really, at all <grin> a sideeffect of this is that there are no viruses or malware that work against it :)
[18:00:37] <megal0maniac_afk> Are there permissions beyond rwxrwxrwx? Or is that only on OSX?
[18:01:50] <Casper> sure there is
[18:02:08] <Casper> that's 777, but you can also have like... 4755
[18:02:42] <megal0maniac_afk> Assuming it's still in octal, what would that do?
[18:02:51] <Casper> there is also a read only bit somewhere... and hidden file... yeah... nobody know about the hidden file...
[18:03:07] <Casper> 4755 I think it set suid... I forgot exactly
[18:03:22] <megal0maniac_afk> I'll look it up
[18:03:54] <megal0maniac_afk> Well I've fixed Windows. Cannot fix Linux
[18:05:09] <theBear> you think you woulda fixed windows so quick if you never read or got told what permissions are ? <grin>
[18:05:38] <megal0maniac_afk> theBear: I'd fixed Windows long before I asked the question ;)
[18:06:07] <megal0maniac_afk> Because I've suffered through its shite over the years, so I know how to make it happy when it gets sad
[18:06:12] <theBear> you found out what permissions are years ago, it hink you know what i'm trying to say
[18:06:25] <megal0maniac_afk> Ah
[18:06:40] <megal0maniac_afk> Fair point
[18:06:41] <theBear> or you do now anyway
[18:07:16] <theBear> and in the same way, after you learned something, you don't even think twice about it when there's a problem :)
[18:07:39] <megal0maniac_afk> I think I just need to use graphics drivers that aren't made by nvidia
[18:08:28] <theBear> it is worth trying, over the years various nv cards have variously worked much better with/without their driver
[18:08:43] <Casper> the fun with windows is when something set some real permissions... set to deny... somewhere in the directory hiarchy, yet you still can browse the file and all...
[18:08:53] <theBear> until VERY recent cards ati support is great, err, not sure i used any other cards made since agp4x
[18:08:58] * theBear lives in the past
[18:09:02] <Casper> read, execute, but can not delete, rename, or change the permissions....
[18:09:07] <Casper> and that file is... of course a virus
[18:11:02] * megal0maniac_afk makes a mental note
[18:11:18] <megal0maniac_afk> My last ATI card was a 9200. I liked it. It had TV out
[18:11:29] <Casper> now all cards have tv out
[18:11:32] <theBear> mental note ? that a scrap of paper with the "scribblings of a retard" on it ?
[18:11:36] <Casper> since they all have hdmi
[18:12:14] <megal0maniac_afk> Well it was cool back when composite video out was a feature
[18:12:21] <megal0maniac_afk> But yeah. HDMI
[18:12:39] <theBear> i heard of it... one day i might even see a cable and try it
[18:12:53] <Fornaxian> I think the tv up on my wall might have hdmi.
[18:13:03] <Fornaxian> high density might interface..
[18:13:19] <megal0maniac_afk> :)
[18:13:24] <Casper> theBear: you know...
[18:13:24] <Fornaxian> don't think anything else in this house has an hdmi port on it.
[18:13:42] <Fornaxian> oh, wait, the blueray player that doesn't work anymore does!
[18:13:48] <Casper> theBear: my ampli for my HT have 5 hdmi input !
[18:14:02] <theBear> well mail a couple of 'em and a cable to me :)
[18:14:26] <megal0maniac_afk> My HT amp has component and S-Video :D And drives only 2 speakers
[18:15:05] <megal0maniac_afk> So it's really just an amp
[18:15:33] <megal0maniac_afk> Albeit with optical audio and a nice 24bit Yamaha DA/AD
[18:16:31] <Casper> megal0maniac_afk: mine have composite, s-video, component and hdmi, few optical in and analog, 1 coax in... 2 hdmi out, 1 component, 1 composite, can up/downscale and convert to hdmi, and output in 7.2
[18:16:43] <megal0maniac_afk> Lawdie
[18:16:56] <Casper> and connecting the wires is frightening
[18:17:08] <megal0maniac_afk> Mine is a Yamaha RX-V559. That's easier than listing the stuff
[18:17:47] <megal0maniac_afk> Which I have because some family friends emmigrated, and decided that they'd just buy new, up to date stuff when they got there. So they left this behind...
[18:18:51] <twnqx> hm
[18:18:55] <twnqx> i might have the same
[18:18:59] <twnqx> predates hdmi?
[18:19:06] <megal0maniac_afk> Yessir
[18:20:16] <Casper> http://imageshack.us/a/img207/3526/img3149f.jpg ← wanna replug?
[18:21:04] <megal0maniac_afk> Casper: http://www.youtube.com/watch?&v=oKI-tD0L18A
[18:22:48] <Casper> what... you don't like it? :(
[18:23:58] <Casper> megal0maniac_afk: that, plus the settings for the inputs (because some are analog, some digital, some remapped)... and an harmony remote...
[18:24:00] <megal0maniac_afk> It was a response to "wanna replug"
[18:24:12] <Casper> you sure you don't wanna replug and configure? :D
[18:24:19] <megal0maniac_afk> That's basically mine with HDMI
[18:24:51] <megal0maniac_afk> Also, I'm going to get banana plugs. I HATE those binding posts so much
[18:25:59] <Casper> next time I need to disconnect, that's what I'm gonna do
[18:26:45] <Casper> http://imageshack.us/a/img198/4240/img3182d.jpg ← that's my setup
[18:28:37] <megal0maniac_afk> Ooh, nice. xbox 1 :D
[18:29:10] <megal0maniac_afk> And nice setup
[18:29:20] <megal0maniac_afk> Except for the woman
[18:30:39] <Casper> you can see the sub too
[18:30:41] <Casper> a 15" one
[18:31:05] <megal0maniac_afk> Ah, it's hiding
[18:32:20] <Casper> http://imageshack.us/a/img850/6849/img3183v.jpg ← that's the back
[18:32:30] <Casper> and yes, I fit throught
[18:34:29] <megal0maniac_afk> Since I lack pictures, Yamaha RX-V559 & Alesis Monitor One MKII Passive & Energy S8.3 & Samsung UA32EH5300
[18:34:48] <megal0maniac_afk> Couch looks comfy
[18:36:20] <Casper> it is comfy
[18:36:32] <Casper> how's my bay window? :D
[18:38:54] <megal0maniac_afk> A little high ;)
[18:39:24] <megal0maniac_afk> I'm off. It is nearing 2am. Again :/ Goodnight!
[18:39:31] <Casper> nite
[18:39:35] * megal0maniac_afk goes afk
[19:08:04] <vsync_> ooh this psu seems nice for protoing... since i'm a poor f**k i can't afford a bench supply :(
[19:08:36] <vsync_> this gives out 1-2A @ 5/6/7.5/9/12 V
[19:08:55] <vsync_> very cool. costs ~10 euros. gotta get one
