03:46 AM lcnc-relay: <xilef@> Hey, can someone recommend a cheap ATC spindle ๐? Maby diy too. Right now I have this one: https://www.vevor.de/spindelmotor-c_10130/vevor-2-2kw-er20-luftgekuehlt-cnc-fraesspindel-air-cooled-spindelmotor-220v-p_010648959518

04:15 AM jpa-: xilef@: you could try this with your current spindle https://rapidchangeatc.com/
04:17 AM Tom_L: morning
04:37 AM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> Morning
04:37 AM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> https://youtu.be/D4tst6MTnjE
05:49 AM lcnc-relay: <andypugh@> UAZAndy@ The problem is that you are loading the same component type with "counts=" in one HAL file and then with "names=" in another.
05:49 AM lcnc-relay: If you want to use "TWOPASS" then it needs to be "names=" in all files.
05:49 AM lcnc-relay: But if you don't want to change the other parts of the HAL file you can change, for example:
05:49 AM lcnc-relay: loadrt and2 count=3
05:49 AM lcnc-relay: ... long message truncated: https://jauriarts.org/_heisenbridge/media/jauriarts.org/IrkihKyTTVbyEXApHycxLEaM/aTR8QuFu17Q (6 lines)
06:55 AM lcnc-relay: <xilef@> jpa-: Thx
07:20 AM lcnc-relay: <AllAboutJake@> Tom, you mentioned you have your probe mounted in a tool holder for repeatability. What kind of tool holder do you have? I have an r8 spindle a manual draw bar so Iโm not sure what the best option is. Was thinking maybe mounting it in a R8 ER16 collet semi-permanently
08:20 AM rdtsc: AAJ, still building my machine here, but envisioning the probe on an arm or mount which is removable. Thinking as long as its position relative to the spindle center is repeatable enough, could have it offset intentionally. Of course that could be a giant can of worms...
08:47 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> andypugh@ I think the only issue with the image is that piwiz isn't installed..
08:49 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> AllAboutJake@ is it a TTS system? (tormach tool system?)
09:04 AM lcnc-relay: <AllAboutJake@> skunkworks@: No nothing that fancy. Just an R8 taper and a manual (imperial) draw bar
09:06 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> ok - I would then find something like this to hold the probe.
09:06 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> https://www.haastooling.com/p/04-1471?utm_term=&utm_campaign=&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&hsa_acc=5860960164&hsa_cam=22944485189&hsa_grp=&hsa_ad=&hsa_src=x&hsa_tgt=&hsa_kw=&hsa_mt=&hsa_net=adwords&hsa_ver=3&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22938488112&gbraid=0AAAAADwdbdKKIbzmOUMzRj2wRtcpJknEo&gclid=CjwKCAiA_orJBhBNEiwABkdmjDgGs0C3Cz0WudZnFO16tPA3ppaBP_IaGK_Lmp4-BOQC7dEGxJ9bWBoCztEQAvD_BwE
09:06 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> yeck - sorry
09:07 AM Tom_L: dude! it's still morining....
09:07 AM Tom_L: :)
09:07 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> lol
09:08 AM Tom_L: so far everything (almost) works on 13
09:08 AM Tom_L: few things like screenshot etc
09:08 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Nice!
09:08 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> it looks nice..
09:08 AM Tom_L: the flex build environmenmt works
09:08 AM Tom_L: latency may not be as good
09:09 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> latency out the box isn't as good - but more than good enough for mesa
09:09 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> I have not tried to tweek anything yet
09:09 AM Tom_L: me either
09:09 AM Tom_L: gonna wait for another ssd and put it on that
09:09 AM xxcoder: roycroft: oh think you misunderstood the docker joke a little bit. essentally in joke, docker exist because they cant dupicate working envorment that dev has, so they just copy it into docker lol
09:10 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> (latency is still loads better than the 4..)
09:10 AM Tom_L: by far
09:10 AM xxcoder: yet 4 is still plenty for mesa system I think
09:12 AM lcnc-relay: <AllAboutJake@> skunkworks@: Yeah aligned with my thinking. Thanks
09:13 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> I made a tts tool to hold my probe on the green machine. bored it in situ and marked it so I align it the same every time.
09:13 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> more than good enough for me
09:15 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PDSzG32O1Y
09:15 AM lcnc-relay: <AllAboutJake@> Cheap china probe has a 6mm shank and I currently use it with a 6mm r8 collet. Just evaluating my options for improvement.
09:45 AM lcnc-relay: <andypugh@> I am slighty proud of my probe design. I made a version to fit directly into an ER20 spindle, for extra shortness.
09:45 AM lcnc-relay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOvBcecJ3Fg
09:47 AM lcnc-relay: <andypugh@> (Sorry, just read back, my video isn't really relevant to the discussion)
09:48 AM xxcoder: meh its been quiet for 30 min which is plenty lol
09:49 AM xxcoder: I wonder how would check probe for coaxial or not
10:07 AM _unreal: ? wtf? jsut an other wtf moment? My irc client crashed again
10:15 AM _unreal: It is so time to put 24 LTS on
10:15 AM _unreal: I've had more then enough of these bs moments with 25.20
10:15 AM _unreal: .10
10:19 AM _unreal: good lord that was fast. 6 gigs in 30 seconds
10:21 AM _unreal_: ? Oh I am so confused now
10:21 AM _unreal_: So ???
10:21 AM _unreal_: hex was closed report said it crashed?
10:22 AM _unreal_: no icon in the hide away bar menu on the left (ubuntu) now a hexchat icon started blinking with a ! mark in the top right and its still there never disconnectedc. but when I had clicked on the icon on the left to re-open hexchat it opened
10:23 AM _unreal_: some how it was crashed but wasnt?
11:17 AM xxcoder: https://phys.org/news/2025-02-transparent-aluminum-tiny-acid-droplets.html
11:17 AM xxcoder: pretty cool
11:17 AM xxcoder: though I wonder if same process could be used to make "extremely thick adonize"
11:29 AM _unreal_: figurs I'll prob just toss them but I'm trying to solve these motor drivers from a SAT. I dont think i'm going to. there is no info online and they are chain linked by db9 passing data and power
11:29 AM _unreal_: bldc drives
11:29 AM _unreal_: his this chip ATSAM3S4B
11:29 AM _unreal_: 64mhz m3
11:34 AM lcnc-relay: <9๊ โ ravaged skies@> I have one of those old delta Rockwell radial arm saws. Nobody wants it even for free lol
11:35 AM lcnc-relay: <9๊ โ ravaged skies@> I could scrap it
11:35 AM lcnc-relay: <9๊ โ ravaged skies@> But anyone have any ideas what I could turn it into? Everything works nice and smooth
11:36 AM lcnc-relay: <9๊ โ ravaged skies@> The motor is also too high RPM so I canโt even put a carbide metal cutting blade on it
11:36 AM xxcoder: turn it into tile grinder?
11:37 AM lcnc-relay: <9๊ โ ravaged skies@> Already have one ๐
11:37 AM lcnc-relay: <9๊ โ ravaged skies@> The sliding motion may be useful for a plasma cutting torch
11:38 AM lcnc-relay: <9๊ โ ravaged skies@> But the range of motion isnโt all that much
11:40 AM _unreal_: I have a radial arm saw as well
11:40 AM _unreal_: there is soooo much you can do with them
11:40 AM _unreal_: what model
11:41 AM _unreal_: ?>
11:43 AM _unreal_: ravage?
11:54 AM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> 9๊ โ ravaged skies@: I have an old one I got for $20 at a yard sale, before I realized these things are pretty much obsolete. Have a vague thought of putting a fret saw on it, and some motion controls to use it for making fretboards, but the priority level will probably never get high enough to actually do it
11:55 AM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> at least it's old enough to be cool looking
11:55 AM roycroft: radial arm saws are dangerous - when they were common the were the source of more shop injuries than table saws
11:56 AM Tom_L: are chop saws any better?
11:56 AM roycroft: folks don't seem to get injured by them as much
11:56 AM roycroft: chop saws have blade guards
11:56 AM roycroft: that may be much of the difference
11:57 AM roycroft: i have an old chop saw, but i never use it
11:58 AM roycroft: i had a radial arm saw about 30-40 years ago but rarely used it
11:58 AM roycroft: i was thinking about getting a new chop saw for my roof project, but i ended up getting a festool construction track saw instead
11:59 AM roycroft: it's more versitile and takes up less space
11:59 AM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> the compound miter saw fills a lot of needs in my shop
12:00 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> need to eventually build cabinets, so it's a "saw station", but it does ok sitting on the steel bench
12:08 PM * Tom_L things roycroft could open up a makerspace with all his tools
12:09 PM _unreal_: a radial arm saw is obsolete if you consider the alternative of purchasing several other devices to do the job that ONE device can do
12:09 PM _unreal_: a radial arm saw is dangerous to an idiot
12:12 PM _unreal_: its everything from a chop saw, miter saw, planer, LIMITED table saw function, it can be a compound dado
12:12 PM Tom_L: an idiot is dangerous to himself
12:12 PM _unreal_: it can also be a metal cutting saw
12:12 PM Tom_L: and anyone around him
12:12 PM _unreal_: metal cutting with all the same features and more
12:13 PM _unreal_: the table saw at work scares me more then my crasftman radial
12:13 PM _unreal_: that thing is a 3phase
12:13 PM _unreal_: its full power full speed in about .01 seconds from hitting the power button
12:14 PM _unreal_: I have a basic chop saw with pivot. I'm likely going to be selling for pennies
12:19 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> I have a chopsaw for steel, that I never use. That thing is just obnoxious.
12:20 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> big cutoff wheels of abrasive, so it throws out a lot of nasty dust. The bandsaw is way better, and has coolant
12:20 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> which I need to refill >.>
12:21 PM _unreal_: heh
12:22 PM roycroft: i had a chop saw for steel at one point
12:22 PM _unreal_: Oh and I forgot a radial can be a "shaper" saw as well
12:22 PM roycroft: i hated it and got rid of it
12:23 PM _unreal_: roycroft, ditto, I use my radial and metal bandsaw for that
12:23 PM roycroft: my 7x12 horizontal bandsaw is so much better
12:23 PM _unreal_: roycroft, I need to rebuild my dads. it works but needs to be fixed up
12:24 PM _unreal_: I use my dewalt porta band more
12:25 PM roycroft: i don't have a porta band - that's something that has been on my list for a long time
12:25 PM Tom_L: those have too limited neck reach for me
12:25 PM roycroft: at this point i'll probably only get one if i decide the 7x12 consumes too much real estate
12:26 PM roycroft: and i doubt i'll decide that
12:27 PM * roycroft head to the kitchen to make a cappuccino
12:27 PM rdtsc: if your fiber chop saw blade gets dull, touch a piece of aluminum oxide to it - cleans up the edge great
12:31 PM rdtsc: aka dressing stone, scrap (shard) of grinding wheel, etc
12:32 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> lol, I think I'll just put it up for sale, along with a pile of spare cutoff wheels. Spoiled by the bandsaw- I can just set it, and walk away, let it cut while I do something else
12:33 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> a timely reminder, since I am trying to get rid of stuff that's taking up space but is not likely to be useful in the next year
12:36 PM roycroft: yes, that's a nice thing about the bandsaw - it's slow, but runs unattended
12:36 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> in its defense, this is just a Harbor Freight thing, with cheapie wheels. Probably would cut a lot better with good cutoff wheels
12:36 PM * roycroft finally has his morning cappuccino
12:36 PM roycroft: i forgot to turn on the espresso machine when i got up this morning
12:36 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> roycroft: leaves a better cut edge, too
12:37 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> man, I'm being hella lazy today
12:37 PM roycroft: and i like t warm it up for an hour - it works a lot better that way
12:38 PM lcnc-relay: <9๊ โ ravaged skies@> _unreal_: I donโt even know
12:38 PM lcnc-relay: <9๊ โ ravaged skies@> https://jauriarts.org/_heisenbridge/media/jauriarts.org/hWkUxaSyFMkOLjYakSjUPCCh/tf4qyiIPe1M/IMG_4855.jpg
12:38 PM lcnc-relay: <9๊ โ ravaged skies@> I left it out in the rain to rust thatโs how little I care about it
12:38 PM _unreal_: roycroft, the porta band saves so much time but its really best for things that take time to rig up in the lateral saw
12:39 PM _unreal_: : } thats an amazing version. its more capable then mine
12:39 PM _unreal_: and more robust
12:40 PM _unreal_: believe me mine sucks to move
12:40 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> mine's just a table top model, but old enough to have rounded shaped castings
12:40 PM roycroft: i do very little metal fabrication work these days
12:40 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> I do more metal than wood
12:40 PM roycroft: quite the opposite here
12:41 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> have stuff I want to do in wood, but current priorities are more towards the mill project, and getting set up to make gears
12:41 PM _unreal_: ravage I would sell it then.
12:42 PM _unreal_: what make is it?
12:42 PM _unreal_: porter craftsman other?
12:43 PM _unreal_: rockwell maybe?
12:44 PM _unreal_: ravage its a rockwell version. you could sell it for a grand $1k easy
12:44 PM roycroft: a radial arm saw?
12:45 PM _unreal_: roycroft, yes...
12:45 PM roycroft: not in the universe i live in
12:45 PM _unreal_: the picture of the one he posted is an industrial
12:45 PM roycroft: if you're really lucky you can sell it for $75
12:45 PM roycroft: there is virtually no market for those things
12:46 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> I'd concur with roycroft, being someone who haunts facebook marketplace
12:46 PM _unreal_: and yet all the online auctions showing similar versions are selling for $800-$2k in good + condition
12:46 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> selling, or asking?
12:46 PM Tom_L: are listed for
12:46 PM _unreal_: leslie/tom DITTO
12:47 PM roycroft: right
12:47 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> I've seen radial arm saws just sitting for months, and not selling
12:47 PM roycroft: and they'll get bids of $75 :)
12:47 PM _unreal_: so ya... ravage skies I'd sell it if you have no need for it. why throw away $ capital
12:48 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> not doing any good sitting there rusting, true
12:48 PM _unreal_: roycroft, ones like mine YA $75-200
12:48 PM _unreal_: I have a crasftman radial
12:48 PM _unreal_: the base is cheap the head is heavy as hell takes 2 people to lift and mount
12:49 PM _unreal_: but there is so much I do with it as projects call
12:50 PM _unreal_: the marble coasters job I just finished I use that saw with a diamond blade and aggressive dust collection to cut down all the material to working size
12:50 PM _unreal_: so I could put it in my cnc
01:00 PM roycroft: i have a little work to do on the laser cutter today, but i'm going to focus on my table saw cabinet
01:01 PM roycroft: the machine i was going to use as my nvr is not cooperating, so i may have to put that project on hold for a bit until i figure someting else out
01:02 PM * roycroft was up late last night working on that, which is why he's so slow getting started today
01:02 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> lol, I'm just being lazy. Happens now and then
01:02 PM roycroft: the camera works great
01:02 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> _working on a rare second French press of coffee_
01:02 PM roycroft: i think i'll end up ordering more of the same
01:02 PM roycroft: but i need the nvr to make it useful
01:03 PM _unreal_: almost done removing the wet jib basin for the cnc
01:03 PM _unreal_: waiting for the machine to move to full back left corner so I'm able to remove the tub
01:03 PM * _unreal_ lives for french press
01:04 PM _unreal_: lesliet I have a spong co #2 coffee grinder
01:04 PM roycroft: i have a bunn 2 lb coffee grinder that i need to sell
01:04 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Tom_L: that is one honken case.. roomy...
01:04 PM roycroft: the big brown one you see in markets that sell coffee beans
01:04 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> I have... a much more basic one off amazon. At least I can choose a grind, and it has an actual burr.
01:05 PM roycroft: i got the bunn years and years ago, when i was making toddy
01:05 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> My struggle is more at the level of my gf keeps buying ground coffee, instead of whole
01:05 PM roycroft: it's almost brand new - probably only a couple hundred pounds put through it at most
01:06 PM roycroft: so she does not like coffee, eh?
01:06 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> I don't think she really perceives it the same way I do
01:06 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Tom_L: and when you said you get another fan - I didn't look to see you actually get a good fan/heatsink assembly
01:06 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> cool
01:07 PM * roycroft should make breakfast and get moving
01:07 PM roycroft: since it's almost lunch time
01:07 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> was gonna say, almost lunch
01:07 PM roycroft: looks like nerdforge's patreon is also kind of slow these days
01:08 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> if mid morning is brunch - what is mid afternoon?
01:08 PM roycroft: she just sent me an email about her new video, which i saw a week ago
01:08 PM roycroft: lunner
01:08 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> skunkworks@: afternoon tea
01:08 PM Tom_L: i think diskimage just ate my ssd
01:08 PM Tom_L: just reading...
01:09 PM roycroft: i just watched another kumiko video that made me really wish my plane blade was here instead of sitting in customs in oakland
01:17 PM _unreal_: ok and done
01:18 PM _unreal_: bunn 2 lb coffee grinder ya. you may as well open your own coffee grinding biz with that heh
01:22 PM _unreal_: question for you guys, I just dont know. I have a wifi adapter that is a gateway/network switch for my machine room. I dont have an ethernet cable run to that room yet so I'm using a wifi device to give network access. IF I block the mac address of that wifi gateway from internet access but allow local access. will it also block all of the computers using it from internet as well?
01:26 PM roycroft: no
01:28 PM roycroft: but i already told you how to easily and reliable block your internal machines from the internet
01:29 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> setting the gateway address on the machine to something other than the real gateway?
01:33 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> heater's up and running, so I guess I'm not going to be lazy ALL day
01:33 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> wish I had a casting project, the melt furnace would generate a nice amount of heat
01:34 PM rdtsc: set the gateway address to 7565 Irvine Center Drive, Irvine, CA 92618? ;)
01:36 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> exactement
01:36 PM rdtsc: had to hunt for the address of Gateway computers :
01:36 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> lol - and people wonder why there is so much hate for linux..
01:36 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> rofl
01:37 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> I cannot stop the screen from going blank on this new rpi5 image.
01:38 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> gotta admit, watching you guys with so much more experience struggle with this stuff gives me a bit of trepidation
01:38 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> lol
01:38 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> never watch the sausage being made...
01:38 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> rofl
01:39 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> I did, and now I'm a vegetarian >.<
01:42 PM _unreal_: And milling my base mount for the 7i96
01:42 PM _unreal_: yep as always about an hour to deal with that freaking wet jib
01:42 PM _unreal_: jig
01:42 PM _unreal_: sigh
01:42 PM _unreal_: does anyone remember where I put all my copper clad PCB in this new house?
01:43 PM * _unreal_ looks left/right
01:43 PM Tom_L: _unreal_, you mean this? http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/etching/Copper1.jpg
01:44 PM _unreal_: wowzer
01:44 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/etching/Copper3.jpg
01:44 PM Tom_L: half sheet
01:45 PM Tom_L: i cut those in half to store em
01:56 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Tom_L: Applications, Settings, Session and Startup...in the box go on 'Application Autostart' tab - uncheck power manager..
01:57 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> 5us currently
01:57 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> it didn't fix the screen blanking
01:59 PM rdtsc: the solution is out there, just have to find it - try screensaver/monitor settings
02:00 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> that did not help. power saving and screen shutoff was set to never
02:00 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> still looking
02:01 PM rdtsc: seem to recall something about xset dpms
02:02 PM rdtsc: xset -dpms
02:03 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> yes - I am not that far down the rabit hole yet.. I would hope it would be something easy.
02:03 PM rdtsc: it's not that it's hard, just obfuscated
02:03 PM Tom_L: skunkworks, don't try saving an image of those ssd
02:03 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> really?
02:04 PM Tom_L: i think disk image just ate one
02:04 PM Tom_L: reading
02:04 PM * rdtsc cringes
02:04 PM _unreal_: am I lazy for using my cnc to drill 6 holes in 1/8th aluminum that match the mount holes for the acrylic plate I just made for the 7i96. rather then just hitting them with the drill press?
02:04 PM Tom_L: maybe too hot
02:06 PM Tom_L: skunkworks, i did on the other day just fine
02:07 PM Tom_L: it hung at 95% in the usb thingie and now won't boot
02:07 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> boy - how hot do you keep your house? ๐
02:08 PM Tom_L: not that hot
02:09 PM Tom_L: i'd had it on the rpi all morning making code edits with no problems
02:09 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> oof - did you lose anything other than time?
02:09 PM Tom_L: was gonna update the 2nd one as a precaution
02:09 PM Tom_L: i'm sure some yes
02:09 PM Tom_L: nothing i can't fix
02:10 PM Tom_L: luckily i'd pushed to git for the 'important' stuff
02:10 PM Tom_L: the backup ssd is from yesterday
02:19 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> I always put heatsinks on nvmes, even in laptops
02:19 PM lcnc-relay: <Olli (RIO)@> smart-serial on rp2040 (raspberry-pico) suns also ๐
02:20 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> My main desktop they're watercooled because there's already a custom loop there
02:20 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> I have never done water cooling
02:20 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> (I run amd - so - don't need it lol ๐ )
02:21 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> Amd too, and nvidia GPU, memory watercooled too, overclocked to hell, never crashes
02:21 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Olli (RIO)@ that is cool!
02:22 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> It's a free ticket to run higher voltage
02:22 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> yah - I don't fiddle what that anymore. Gotten too old.
02:23 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> (except for realtime performance)
02:23 PM Tom_L: my water cooled experience: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Assembly/spindle_cooler/Cooler5.jpg
02:23 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> Nvmes throttle way too quick without coolkng
02:24 PM _unreal_: ok finally I'm starting to get somewhere
02:24 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> I think the memory does the most for stability though
02:24 PM _unreal_: just got the 7i96 mounted
02:24 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> It likes being at less than 30c
02:24 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> rdtsc: think xset -dpms s off did it
02:24 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> knock on wood
02:25 PM _unreal_: Tom_L, is that cooling still in use?
02:25 PM Tom_L: no
02:25 PM Tom_L: it did a helluva job though
02:26 PM _unreal_: its a one of a kind
02:26 PM Tom_L: for sure
02:26 PM _unreal_: Tom_L, I should post a pic of my setup
02:29 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> 14 fans, 3 radiators
02:29 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> https://jauriarts.org/_heisenbridge/media/jauriarts.org/DfWwPqLCUeiNjjehypqEmTOt/2wXLidFJ6-Y/Screenshot_20251123_202855_Gallery.jpg
02:30 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> That's actually an old iteration
02:30 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> Before 9950x3d
02:31 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> the x3d processors are pretty awesome
02:32 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> Yeah, wouldn't say it's night and day compared to the 5950 I had before though
02:32 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> Watercooled ram means I can run 128gb ram at xmp speeds
02:33 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> And beyond
02:34 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> Have to override max voltage and run it at 1.65v, but not an issue as long as it stays cold
02:38 PM rdtsc: still holding SW? try a reboot
02:43 PM _unreal_: feeewwwww I almost made a big boo boo. I put the wrong standoffs on the 7i96. I almost slammed down the case of this new case which would have smashed the mesa card. feeewwwwwww
02:43 PM _unreal_: just finished switching out all of the standoffs
02:43 PM _unreal_: ok Tom_L now going to take a pic of my water cooling
02:47 PM _unreal_: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NM6F105B4NtV1uW2SDWQdZysUndHy1UW/view?usp=sharing, https://drive.google.com/file/d/1PhkxnIyPB5gbksnC9tDceoSHy_zGNWQ0/view?usp=sharing, https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_ezE0e3-HQpjy9minbVpyp6y3NuOi9Z1/view?usp=sharing
02:47 PM _unreal_: tom 3 phots, 2 are my cooling one is the new case with the DSPIC servo drives I'm working on
02:50 PM _unreal_: The pic with the BLUE thing is was a ice bath circulation system for an injury/surgery. a guy who use to live down the road from me but past away about 2 years ago now. his fam tossed it out. I scavenged it from the side of the road. Its got a nice little 12v dc pump, I 3d printed a cooling duct and mounted a very high quality radiator I have had for years. was supposed to be for a pc water cooling but never got to it. now it
02:50 PM _unreal_: cool my spindle.
02:50 PM _unreal_: the unit has anti freeze in it
02:51 PM _unreal_: less likely to ever have corrosion issues or growth
03:23 PM _unreal_: quiet all of a sudden
03:40 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> psa - pipes standing on end collect mice
03:41 PM _unreal_: eating size?
03:41 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> rdtsc: I have to put it in the startup - have not done that...
03:41 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> no. too small
03:42 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> but smelly.. such small things can smell so bad.
03:42 PM _unreal_: you know its hard times when even the mice are small
03:42 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> there have been a few that have died in there - there was a layer of fur.. So the next mouse had a nice bed..
03:43 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> find out if that is the only one that was smelling
03:46 PM _unreal_: skunkworks I cant wait till I get further along with this project
03:47 PM _unreal_: PPC-156A-C
03:47 PM _unreal_: skunk that is the 2 panel pc's I purchased
03:47 PM synfinatic_ is now known as synfinatic
03:54 PM _unreal_: so I'm isntalling the later version of lcnc on the panel pc now.
04:04 PM _unreal_: Tom_L, I've been running a latency test for a little bit on the panel pc
04:06 PM roycroft: well, it's two o'clock, and my ladder work outdoors is finished
04:06 PM roycroft: the rain is due to commence any time now
04:06 PM roycroft: i'm going to try to do a run to the storage unit before it starts raining in earnest
04:06 PM roycroft: i'm kind of spooked that i had two really nice ladders stolen from the old house as i was moving
04:07 PM xxcoder: it's rain o'clock here
04:07 PM roycroft: and i have several nice ladders, including the new one, hanging on the back side of my house
04:07 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> any way they can be chainlocked to something solid?
04:07 PM roycroft: i'm thinking that if i get a long chain, chain them all together, and padlock it they would be difficult to steal
04:07 PM roycroft: one would have to take all of them at once
04:07 PM roycroft: or cut the chain or padlock
04:08 PM roycroft: but the object is to discourage "opportunistic" thieves
04:08 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> I guess cable is a bit harder to cut , but yeah, make it inconvenient
04:08 PM roycroft: a determined thief would get it no matter what i do
04:08 PM _unreal_: hay roycroft are you serious about the slide squares? if so I'll go take some pics right now
04:08 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> loved that project I saw on yt a while back, with an autosentry that fires paintballs
04:08 PM roycroft: anyway, the chains are all in storage
04:09 PM roycroft: and i just put a bunch of stuff away from the living room
04:09 PM roycroft: i have a box with a monitor arm that's been sitting in the living room since i moved in
04:09 PM _unreal_: roy?
04:09 PM roycroft: it's one of the last living room boxes to unpack
04:09 PM roycroft: _unreal_: i'm probably not interested, unless they are really unusual slide rules
04:09 PM xxcoder: i worked on tricycle today. its mostly done, besides rear tires covers, basket for back, and adjusting derailer and brakes
04:09 PM roycroft: but if the are unusual i would be
04:10 PM * roycroft wants to have all the moving boxes gone from his living room and dining room by thanksgiving
04:10 PM _unreal_: roycroft, what would be unusual?
04:10 PM roycroft: they are all gone from my kitchen finally
04:10 PM _unreal_: in your opinion?
04:10 PM roycroft: _unreal_: i would know that when i saw them
04:10 PM roycroft: unusual scales, for one thing
04:10 PM _unreal_: :S ok
04:10 PM _unreal_: wll
04:10 PM _unreal_: well
04:10 PM roycroft: i'm leaving for a bit
04:10 PM _unreal_: roycroft, one sec msg
04:10 PM roycroft: if you want to take some pics, i'd love to see them
04:11 PM roycroft: i'll have to dig mine out to review what i have
04:11 PM _unreal_: I'll text em
04:11 PM roycroft: i do not have text capability
04:11 PM roycroft: sorry
04:11 PM _unreal_: what...?
04:11 PM roycroft: and i need to go right now
04:11 PM roycroft: but i'll be back in less than an hour
04:11 PM _unreal_: ok
04:11 PM _unreal_: well I'm about to start an other mill job anyways
04:11 PM _unreal_: see ya in a bit
04:24 PM _unreal_: after this job is done its onto the PCB's
04:24 PM _unreal_: got 2 too mill
