12:00 AM roycroft: not something i want to drop on my driveway and try to work on outside
12:16 AM xxcoder: yeah its of scale where you could transmit yourself to afterlife by having say, transmission fall on you
12:16 AM fluffywolf: I can't afford to have anyone else do things for me.
12:16 AM fluffywolf: and mechanics seem to think their time is 15 times as valuable as my time. that is, I should work 15 hours to pay them for 1 hour.
12:16 AM fluffywolf: which is flat-out offensive.
12:16 AM roycroft: the shop where i live charges less per hour than i charge per hour for my time
12:18 AM roycroft: my work here is all pro bono
12:18 AM xxcoder: joking aside, I guess its awesome to be high level enough skill and knowledge so can have consult jobs, but certainly not something I ever had
12:21 AM xxcoder: closest thing to that was when I did cvolunteer work on nonprofit center, redoing the network center so its much cleaner
12:22 AM xxcoder: that was nearly 20 years ago already
01:13 AM Deejay: moin
03:42 AM lcnc-relay: <Olli (RIO)@> moin
04:27 AM Tom_L: morning
08:18 AM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> good timezone
08:18 AM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> long weekend again, so I get to do fun stuff
10:14 AM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> just waiting for the post office to open, so I can go ship stuff, then I can play in the shop
10:40 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> well - it seems to work a lot better without milk in the hydraulic tank
10:41 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> no filter - we just are not going to talk about it.
10:57 AM Tom_L: call it a run clean environment
11:31 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> lol
11:31 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> and now - no brakes
11:31 AM Tom_L: just aim for the hay bales
11:32 AM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> sounds like our old forklift
11:32 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> looks like drums in the front. i might take a tire off and see if a) I can bleed them and or b) the need work
11:32 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> there was no fluid in the reservoir
11:32 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> which isn't good
11:32 AM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> the clark leaked, so the shop solution was to just keep adding fluid
11:33 AM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> I think it got sent to a new store, with all its issues
11:33 AM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> and we got a hyster that just works
11:37 AM * roycroft is being spared the pain of working on his pickup, but will experience the pain of draining his slush fund to pay for the repairs
11:40 AM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> yeah, I wouldn't wanna do an F350 transmission in the driveway, either
11:40 AM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> or rebuild it
11:40 AM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> pretty specialized knowledge, there
11:40 AM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> the learning curve is very steep, and the cost of failure is high
11:41 AM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> brekkie, whilst waiting for the shop to warm up
11:48 AM roycroft: it really is pretty specialized
11:48 AM roycroft: even back in the '70s and before, automatic transmission work was specialized
11:49 AM roycroft: and now it's way more so
11:49 AM roycroft: they're way more complicated than they used to be, and again, the were pretty complicated 50 years ago
11:49 AM * roycroft is also waiting for the shop to warm up
11:50 AM roycroft: i'm trying to figure out my schedule for the weekend
11:50 AM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> I just made a list, crossing stuff off as I go
11:50 AM roycroft: i usually go to town on errands on saturdays, and i have some things i need for a shop project that i could use today
11:51 AM roycroft: but there's a symphony performance tomorrow afternoon
11:51 AM roycroft: it's only an hour, but it's the eugene youth symphony performing with the eugene symphony
11:51 AM roycroft: and it will be the first public performance for many of the youth
11:52 AM roycroft: a full house would be nice, and since i sit right in the front, my empty seat would be noticeable
11:52 AM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> hehehe, stage fright, much?
11:52 AM roycroft: so i may postpone errands until tomorrow so i can go to that performance
11:52 AM roycroft: or i may go down today and tomorrow
11:52 AM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> pretty cool of you that you think that way
11:53 AM roycroft: well, folks have to help each other out however they can
11:54 AM roycroft: and encouraging kids to pursue music is always a good thing
11:55 AM roycroft: the stuff i might need today i can get in springfield, but there are things i need to do in eugene as well, so splitting the errands over two days makes some sense
11:59 AM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> roycroft: 100
12:00 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> from what I've read, it seems like people a century ago were expected to play an instrument as part of a well rounded general education
12:01 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> lol, remembering an astronomer's party we went to, that turned into a music session with people singing and playing various things, it was fun. "Saturnalia"
12:03 PM roycroft: i won't say the arts are dying, but in the minds of much of society today they're becoming less and less relevant
12:03 PM roycroft: that trend needs to be reversed
12:08 PM roycroft: i just heard on the radio that ups have grounded all their md-11s
12:13 PM JT-Cave: not a huge amount of their fleets
12:14 PM rdtsc: yeah just saw video showing the right engine stalling at take-off... they think the left blew on the runway and sent shrapnel into the right - awful
12:16 PM roycroft: i haven't seen the video, but i've read a lot about the incident
12:21 PM roycroft: grr
12:21 PM roycroft: i just realized that my glue pot is in storage, and i need it this weekend
12:21 PM roycroft: it could take hours to locate it, so i'm going to have to come up with another plan
12:23 PM lcnc-relay: <ccatlett1984@> soup can and a torch?
12:27 PM roycroft: i'll probably rig up a double boiler out in the shop
12:37 PM xxcoder: https://youtu.be/ITjYTpxR2ho interesting video. artisan makes makes a vinyl playr from dead old one
12:37 PM _unreal_: booting up the old pc. just got my replacement X timing belts
12:37 PM _unreal_: cant wait to see how it works with a non F!!!!'ed up timing belt
12:38 PM _unreal_: one of the teeth is literally diagonal. no wonder it was causing thumbs
12:44 PM * JT-Shop heads to The Depot
12:44 PM _unreal_: just tested.... hand down NIGHT AND DAY difference :)
12:49 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Lol.. I was planning on pulling the wheel off the forklift outside.. I could drive it into the shop
12:50 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> It is all flat to that point
12:52 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Assuming I don't get stuck
12:52 PM rdtsc: set down some boards if in grass
12:56 PM rdtsc: video or it didn't happen ;)
01:07 PM _unreal_: sweet. just tested it. I got a free OZONE generator
01:07 PM _unreal_: from work yesterday
01:07 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> It has larger pneumatic tires . But time will tell
01:08 PM _unreal_: yep that was rather potent and I ran it for all of 10 seconds
01:13 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> What are you going to use that for? Only use I know of is getting cigarette smoke smell out of cars/eooms
01:13 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Rooms
01:20 PM rdtsc: recently had a "forklift training" at work - watch a couple of videos, take a test - was waiting for the hands-on part, never came
01:21 PM rdtsc: certified with 0% experience lol
01:23 PM rdtsc: don't need it too often at work, so gonna take awhile
01:25 PM rdtsc: used to have an old Hyster, all painted in primer brown from the 60's or something, they traded that in for two electric ones
01:57 PM JT-Mobile: Yo
01:59 PM JT-Mobile: C8 just passed 40k with an average of 25 MPG
02:00 PM Tom_L: way to keep yer foot out of it
02:00 PM JT-Mobile: Or only briefly WOT
02:01 PM Tom_L: jakes patch broke the buttons
02:04 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> argh, got my form tool all ground up, go to set the lathe up for 5 tpi, and it turns out the ELS only goes down to 8. >.<
02:04 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> gonna look at the code and see if I can figure out how to add a pitch
02:10 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> may be even easier than that, the code has already been written for custom pitches, and thread to shoulder
02:10 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> :p
02:11 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> plus retract to start, think I'll give that a shot
02:24 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> well - that went smoother than I thought it would
02:24 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/g9Cw8shDzGfshZkT7
02:35 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> lol - you know you are over half way there to just cnc'ing the lathe...
02:35 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> (I never understood the want for els when you can just go full cnc without much extra work)
02:39 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> could, I suppose, but motorizing the cross slide would be a bit of work. Main thing I wanted was just not to have to deal with change gears, because they're a pita
02:39 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> very time consuming
02:39 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> I suppose..
02:40 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> I might just be a cnc snob
02:40 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> I like my cnc mill, but there are definitely operations I'd rather just crank around with knobs
02:41 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> planning to set the big bridgeport project up so there's a MPG for each axis, and a manual mode
02:42 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> mainly just because a lot of times I'm only making one-off parts
02:43 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> that is what we did on the matsurra.. but - i don't use it enough to really say it is better. The k&t has 1 mpg that switches between x/y/z and I use that machine the most
02:44 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Now to get the jacks in and take a tire off for a look see
02:44 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> but now it is in a heated area
02:45 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Just going to have to deal with the smoking. (this is mostly an outside machine)
02:48 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> (and that is what I did on the green machine too
02:48 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> )
02:49 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> (one mpg)
02:57 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> I had a server (that is probably 20 years old) that is using a raid box running mdadm.. the power went down and it didn't boot back up.. Ended up being one of the drives actually took the drive box down. it would keep scanning the drives over and over - so i just started popping drive out until it booted all the way
02:58 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> then I had to remember how to manage mdadm.. LOL - it has been a while
02:58 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> currently rebuilding the raid
04:25 PM rdtsc: welded five 7/16 nuts onto 100mm lengths of 1.25" tubing (why not mix up the units) last week. All were good except one - a little too hot, garbled the threads. Tried to tap it, no-go... tried to slice the welds, no-go... had to slice it into 4 pieces, and cut one of those completely out (now that's what I call fusion lol)
04:31 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> Sounds like a ballache,.did you try annealing?
05:00 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Well.. the 3/4 impact wouldn't loosen the lug nuts (1-1/2") but the breaker bar with a cheater tube did..
05:01 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> Bet that was a clench moment
05:01 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> They popped pretty loud..
05:02 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> There's always those milliseconds where you wonder if it's actually loose or if it snapped
05:02 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Right.. I didn't know if the breaker bar broke
05:03 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> I have actually done that
05:04 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> Snapped 1/2 inch drive clean off
05:04 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> Supposedly quality item
05:04 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Lol.. yep.
05:08 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> There is a layer of what I would describe as maybe blacktop on most surfaces.. like between the break housing and the forklift - is a crumbly material that I have to chip out
05:10 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> I have to chip it out to get to the bleeders
05:10 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> Is it corrosion or build up of crap?
05:10 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Build up of crap
05:10 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> Bits of old friction mayerial maybe
05:11 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> It scrapes off . Pretty hard though
05:11 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> It is all over.. the filter housing was caked with it
05:13 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> Maybe it still contains genetic material of extinct species
05:13 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Some of it looks a bit stingy
05:13 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Stringie
05:14 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Who knows were this came from... Maybe it was in a factory
05:14 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> Clearly bigfoot dna
05:14 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Maybe
05:15 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> Or just lung material from the factory workers as they exhaled the corrosive air
05:18 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> I rediscovered donn diy and now I want a big chunky lathe
05:19 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> One of those that don't care if you're taking the piss with what you throw at it
05:20 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Lol
05:22 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> I need to get back to this project
05:22 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> https://youtu.be/tItdEEDYy2g?si=kjJYS7fU_F2GsSz_
05:24 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> Fantastic, also warns the county of the imminent air raid
05:25 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> ok, config file backed up, got the updated code for custom threads and thread to shoulder flashed on the spare board. I think installing it is going to be a job for tomorrow me, it's cold.
05:26 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Huh... That reminds me I have an old air siron in the other garage
05:26 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> Of course you do
05:27 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> An induction repulsion motor
05:27 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Iirc
05:28 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> skunkworks@: very cool
05:28 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> I live in Europe, will have use for it if you don't mind
05:28 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Lesliet@
05:29 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> https://youtu.be/tgtVG0S7OGs?si=ZM3twcDq62OJGVsH
05:29 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Gear tooth sensors
05:30 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> a friend on another server was just showing me cool stuff with gear tooth sensors
05:30 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> I think If I mess with cnc'ing a lathe, it will be a different and more rigid lathe than this old craftsman
05:31 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> You have a craftsman? My dad started with one
05:31 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> yes, it's the 12X36 version
05:32 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> I don't think I even have pictures of it.. I was pretty young when he sold it
05:32 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> saw it outside the pawnshop, on my way home from work one day, and whipped a very fast turn into their lot. $500 us
05:32 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> I think this was smaller
05:32 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> My lathe is a Boxford 280, it's not bad, induction hardened ways, but it's not an f u I'll take whatever you throw at me sorta thing
05:32 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> there are a lot of the 6" ones around
05:33 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Right - pretty sure it was around that size
05:33 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> https://jauriarts.org/_heisenbridge/media/jauriarts.org/HvHvZGETUVkTwCcswtHypDHs/Quaskl0jQWU/9_reassembled_end_view.JPG
05:34 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> https://jauriarts.org/_heisenbridge/media/jauriarts.org/IjlBitenEyAOWgbVdVgLqqzN/6yESEYVoHNw/lathe_and_mill_31_oct_2021.jpg
05:34 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> older pics, I need to take some new ones tomorrow, and install the cover support I finally got
05:36 PM _unreal_: so the neighbor just put out a jhon deer lawn tractor....... I'm SOOOOOO tempted to grab it
05:36 PM _unreal_: I have a lawn tractor but the deck is f'ed
05:36 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> the older ones are pretty decent. I think the newer ones, not so much
05:36 PM _unreal_: and the ignition switch is messed up
05:36 PM _unreal_: but I have a new battery in it.
05:37 PM _unreal_: brb let me get the modle number. now it looks like his mower deck is seized but its a tripal blade
05:37 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> I have an old Massey that I just use to pull a trailer around, and a newer Ariens for mowing. Should probably fix the deck for the massey, but too many projects
05:39 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> Lucid Nonsense@: current dream lathe is a Monarch, but that could change. They're pretty spendy
05:39 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> there's a dude in town that has two decent sized lathes, and a mill for $3300, all or naught
05:39 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> tempting, to fix up and keep some, and sell some
05:40 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> My main issue is space
05:40 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> I have a bit of room, but it's not infinite
05:40 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> Well, dry space
05:40 PM _unreal_: its an jhon deer L130 automatic
05:40 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> yeah, dry space is at a premium
05:41 PM _unreal_: I'd love to get it going and use it to hit the bulk of my yard and pull trailers around
05:41 PM _unreal_: its much larger then the one that isnt working I have currently. and the reverse well the CLUTCH in the one I have has a recoil issue
05:41 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> _unreal_: ok, newer stuff. Pretty comparable to my Ariens, at least visually, and with the hydro trans
05:42 PM _unreal_: no idea the condition
05:42 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Lesliet@ how do you like the tormach?
05:42 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> if the deck is seized up, I'd expect one of the three spindles has bad bearings/rusted up from failed seals and water intrusion.
05:43 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> I have the prototype of the 450
05:43 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> 440
05:44 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> skunkworks@: it has been a good teacher. The spindle power is a bit limited, and I've stalled it enough to lose steps on various axes, but if you're careful, you can cut some good steel parts
05:45 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> looking forward to having this Bridgeport project up and running, so I can take bigger cuts without worries
05:45 PM _unreal_: its been sitting in the back of his yard for who knows how long. its a 20+ year old unit.
05:45 PM _unreal_: getting a flash light to get a better look at it.
05:46 PM _unreal_: I'm mainly interested in if it has keys.
05:46 PM _unreal_: I'm sure all 3 blades bearings are messed up
05:46 PM _unreal_: and who knows what else
05:46 PM _unreal_: I believe the cover has been on it so the motor cant be in too bad a condition :S
05:47 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> what's he want for it?
05:50 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> Anything where I can't hear the engine running better be pocket change
05:50 PM _unreal_: just found a flashlight and got a good look..... YAAAAA I'll touch it with a 10' pole
05:50 PM _unreal_: its falling apart with rust
05:51 PM _unreal_: he's tossing it
05:51 PM _unreal_: the one I have aside from the mower deck is in better condition
05:51 PM rdtsc: looks like it's riding over the rainbow bridge
05:51 PM _unreal_: and not running hehe
05:51 PM _unreal_: yar
05:52 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> I like the older ones that have a horizontal shaft
05:53 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> seems like the vert shaft ones are pretty disposable
05:54 PM _unreal_: so I found a place that has one hell of a battery deal going on
05:54 PM _unreal_: 12v lead acid batteries. the small one's the kind for USP's etc...
05:54 PM _unreal_: $14
05:54 PM _unreal_: when I go to pick up my daughter tomorrow I'm leaving very early and clearing them out
05:55 PM _unreal_: got a bunch of USP SYSTEMS to bring back on line
05:59 PM rdtsc: I wonder if there is a lithium battery available for my UPS....
06:05 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Wow.. for a quick meal that the kids will eat - meat lovers stoffers lasagna
06:07 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> (it does take 50 minutes to bake)
06:08 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> that's the one that takes up half an oven rack?
06:08 PM fluffywolf: microwaves are a thing.
06:12 PM roycroft: i've been wanting to make a lasagne for a while - i usually make a couple of them, cut them up, and freeze dinner-size portions
06:12 PM roycroft: but my lasagne pans are in storage somewhere
06:12 PM roycroft: whenever i stumble across them i can make lasagne again
06:13 PM roycroft: meanwhile, i'm finally working on the ventilation system for my laser cutter
06:14 PM roycroft: i have to frankenstein it together - i have a mix of schedule 40 water pipes/fittings, epvc (electrical) conduit fittings, and metal hvac fittings
06:14 PM roycroft: but it should work, and work well
06:14 PM roycroft: even better than i originally anticipated
06:14 PM fluffywolf: I really, really need to work on my car, but I worked so late last night I got half the sleep needed to be functional today.
06:14 PM roycroft: i'm going to be able to vent it vertically to up above the roofline, and put a china hat on top
06:15 PM roycroft: i was originally thinking of doing a dryer vent out the side of the building
06:15 PM roycroft: but going up above the building is way better
06:16 PM fluffywolf: so instead I've watched peter spirol build a giant cardboard airplane, carlsagan42 play a troll level, quinn build a boiler water feed pump, and browsed imgur.
06:16 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> Made spicy sausage pasta for us today, it's my boy's default answer if I ask what he wants for dinner, basically onion, sweet peppers, garlic, chillies, oregano, tomato, basil with parmesan to serve
06:17 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> And bratwurst
06:17 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> Diced
06:17 PM lcnc-relay: <Lucid Nonsense@> Or sliced I should say
06:17 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> fluffywolf: sounds like me, when I'm tired
06:18 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> This is a pretty small lasagna.. probably feeds 4
06:20 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Yes... Says 4.5 servings
06:20 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> Lucid Nonsense@ that sounds yummy
06:22 PM fluffywolf: if it's the one that's ~2lbs, I've been known to eat a whole one of those when hungry...
06:23 PM * roycroft now wonders if, since he's going through the effort already, he should just go ahead and install the 4" vent which he was planning on upgrading to later
06:23 PM roycroft: i got supplies for 2-1/2", which is the current vent size on the laser enclosure, but my new enclosure will use a different exhaust fan with a 4" outlet
06:24 PM roycroft: for now i can just get a 4" to 2-1/2" reducer
06:25 PM fluffywolf: Lesliet: do you notice how often https://imgur.com/user/ShoemakerThe is making the front page on imgur lately? lol.
06:26 PM fluffywolf: (if you also browse imgur while tired...)
06:26 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> raining here - so glad I got the forkift in
06:28 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> fluffywolf: nopers, hadn't noticed, I'm only on there every so often. More since I started coming to this server, when we had to use external links for pics
06:29 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> think I'd better crawl off and read, tho, am at the "stupid tired" stage
06:36 PM xxcoder: YES!
06:36 PM xxcoder: I missed clcl from years ago when I used to use windows
06:36 PM xxcoder: it was amazing clipboard program
06:36 PM xxcoder: on linux I used clipman, which is great but I couldnt pin any entries. I found clipq with plugins allow me to do that
06:36 PM xxcoder: finally, clcl experence is back
06:42 PM fluffywolf: the only thing I ever use is the primary selection. no clipboard. :P
06:44 PM fluffywolf: (primary selection is when you just select something, but don't select "copy" or similar, then go to another window and middle-click)
06:45 PM xxcoder: err I meant copyq
06:54 PM xxcoder: wolf yeah I use that sometimes
06:58 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> wow - the left side brake bleeder works and the brakes blead
07:02 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> and wow - is that brake stiff
07:04 PM fluffywolf: I really, really should have worked on my car today.
07:06 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> now I should jack up the right side
07:16 PM fluffywolf: when you're done with that, you can pull the back axle off my parts car for me.
07:37 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> The other side really didn't need bleeding
07:37 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> probably why it felt so stiff from just the one side
07:37 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> so - so far so good
07:38 PM fluffywolf: I broke a spring (torsion bar) yesterday, and need to swap in the entire torsion tube off my parts car.
07:38 PM fluffywolf: have to remove the entire rear drivetrain on both cars
07:38 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> yeck
07:38 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> again - I hate brake/suspention work.
07:41 PM fluffywolf: have to remove shocks, brake lines, wheel hubs, control arms, differential, cv axles, differential mount, etc, then can finally get to the torsion tube...
07:43 PM fluffywolf: driveshaft
07:43 PM fluffywolf: exhaust
07:53 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> what vehicle
07:53 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> oof - 2 of the lug studs are stripped
07:53 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> don't ask me how I fixed it
07:53 PM xxcoder: cant be tight when its liquid
07:54 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> no - they would not tighten - they came off
07:54 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> and come off
07:54 PM xxcoder: lol ok
07:56 PM lfluffywof: old subaru
07:56 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> oh - yeck.
07:56 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> had to replace wheel bearings yet? lol
07:57 PM lfluffywof: well, the proper fix is to knock out the bad studs and pull in new ones, so I'm willing to bet you didn't do that...
07:57 PM lfluffywof is now known as fluffywolf
07:57 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> no.. I dont want to pull the brake drums.. (you have to pull the axles and then pull the bearing nuts off.. )
07:58 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> I stuck an 1/8 inch washer under it - they formed... that gave me a good 1/4 good threads
07:59 PM fluffywolf: if this is anything more dangerous than a lawn tractor, I'm not sure I approve of that repair. lol
08:00 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> i trust it. famous last words..
08:00 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> it is only rated at 6 tons.. lol
08:03 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> again - this will hopefully only be used a handful of times a year
08:03 PM fluffywolf: I don't remember what you're working on.
08:03 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> I was able (in low gear) stall the starter with the brakes. so they seem to be working
08:04 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/smKKgLDPs6Di4USJA
08:05 PM fluffywolf: ah, forklift. for some reason I was thinking a diesel truck. must be getting confused with someone else's project.
08:06 PM xxcoder: roy sent off his truck for fix
08:06 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> ah - right
08:07 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> this is 60's vintage
08:07 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> what is suprising - is there isn't any oil puddles under it currently
08:07 PM fluffywolf: just wait until you get to replace every single hose and every single cylinder gland. :P
08:35 PM lcnc-relay_ is now known as lcnc-relay
08:41 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> well - now that I cleaned all the crap out - it looks like I could bleed the brakes without taking the tires off
08:45 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> look at that - break bleeders...
08:45 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/2gzX7gbw6DXgdcWw6
08:46 PM fluffywolf: I worked on a wheel loader once with hydraulic brakes, of the real hydraulic system variety... if you added any fluid to the system, the brakes got locked full on. turned out to be a cracked spring washer in the brake valve. the second problem... that fluid didn't stay in the system for more than a week.
08:47 PM fluffywolf: except it wasn't leaking anywhere you could fix... the brakes were inside the transmission! so you filled the brake system with ATF instead of hydraulic oil, and every week drained two quarts out of the tranny and poured it back into the brake pump reservoir.
09:01 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks@> The ford tractor has the brakes in the transmission.. but they are mechanical
09:03 PM fluffywolf: wolfy bedtime. bbl.

10:02 PM lcnc-relay: <Jacob@> Lesliet@: I used to have this lathe, great little machine! Love the creative use of the QC tool holder. Nice job on your servo and encoder mounts too!
10:05 PM lcnc-relay: <Jacob@> Lesliet@: I’m working on getting an MPG for each axis set up on my lathe. Keep me posted how it goes on your mill!
