01:01 AM lcnc-relay: <plaidrabbit@> captainhindsight_.@ Is the a doc that says what pins are available for which board?
01:10 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> start linuxcnc, open a 2. console and type: halcmd show
01:11 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> or i think there is something in the mesaflash tool to print the pins, not sure
01:13 AM lcnc-relay: <plaidrabbit@> Thanks! Now I know what to look up!
01:25 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> plaidrabbit@: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/39-pncconf/38078-7i76e-not-showing-field-io-ports-pins-solved
01:26 AM lcnc-relay: <plaidrabbit@> That's making a bit more sense now

03:35 AM lcnc-relay: <100jch@> Hi everyone,
03:35 AM lcnc-relay: I have successfully connected LinuxCNC with EtherCAT servo drivers (RS400E Rtelligent). However, I’m running into a serious issue:
03:35 AM lcnc-relay: When I start LinuxCNC, the drivers are enabled, and both the LinuxCNC position and the encoder position show 0 — which is correct.
03:35 AM lcnc-relay: If I then move the X axis, for example by 100 mm, both LinuxCNC and the encoder show "100". So far, everything works as expected.
03:35 AM lcnc-relay: ... long message truncated: https://jauriarts.org/_heisenbridge/media/jauriarts.org/NdUXzpCCojeXRodAXQtEzQDl/OhNr8XIaEEA (10 lines)
03:42 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> hmm, strange, it's normal that it shows different positions, but the move is not normal, shw your .ini file
03:48 AM lcnc-relay: <100jch@> As said different positions are shown when i shut down linuxcnc and start it once again. So Linuxcnc position goes to 0.
03:48 AM lcnc-relay: I have checked that position change is the made with terminal and with next calls:
03:48 AM lcnc-relay: halcmd getp cia402.0.pos-fb
03:48 AM lcnc-relay: and

04:04 AM Tom_L: morning
04:19 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> my fpga board always shown the last position when i restart linuxcnc, no initials moves , wait, you are in position mode !?!?! maybe thats the reason, i work in velocity mode, hmmmm
04:40 AM lcnc-relay: <100jch@> im using ethercat servo drivers, I have only found examples in CSP mode (position mode). If needed I can also share my ethercat.hal and ethercat-conf.xml files.
04:40 AM lcnc-relay: I have tried to change line "setp cia402.0.csp-mode 1" in ethercat.hal file to "setp cia402.0.csv-mode 1" but i get an error when starting up linuxcnc.
04:44 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> i will test it later, i have an ethercat servo at home, but I can't remember him ever doing anything like that before.
04:48 AM lcnc-relay: <100jch@> Ok, if you need any of my files i can share them with you. I would be more than happy if you could help me out, im solving that issue for 8 days in a row now, reading forums and everything but cannot find the proper solution for it.
04:52 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> I have a suspicion, maybe your feedback pins are not correct
04:52 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> setp cia402.0.pos-scale [JOINT_5]SCALE_OUT

04:55 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> lcec.0.ethercat1.pos-actual -> cia402.0.drv-actual-position
04:55 AM lcnc-relay: cia402.0.pos-fb -> joint.5.motor-pos-fb
04:59 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> if you have something like this (joint.5.motor-pos-cmd -> joint.5.motor-pos-fb) than it's wrong, thats for parport setups

06:35 AM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> new tech!!!

06:47 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram@> sweet, i'm looking for 5101 or 5102 :8
06:47 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram@> i couldnt find custom pcb for encoder unfortunately
06:48 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> I would like one too, but it's too expensive for me just to play with.
07:02 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram@> i managed to buy for 50euros each
07:02 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram@> but i was lucky
07:02 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram@> i saw someone on the forum woo made a custom pcb but in the end he is selling it for 120 bucks
07:02 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram@> you can find second hand beckhoff devices at this price
07:37 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram@> the encoder part is not complicated on a stm32 but the ethercat chip is out of my league
08:45 AM lcnc-relay: <100jch@> As said different positions are shown when i shut down linuxcnc and start it once again. So Linuxcnc position goes to 0.
08:45 AM lcnc-relay: I have checked that position change is the made with terminal and with next calls:

09:01 AM lcnc-relay: <uazandy@> Hallo
09:01 AM lcnc-relay: Kann mir jemand helfen welchen postprozessor ich bei Catia V5 verwenden kann
09:04 AM lcnc-relay: <uazandy@> +für eine 3 Achs Fräse
10:03 AM lcnc-relay: <rs> linuxcnc and catia are somewhat on opposite ends of the spectrum
10:14 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> catia is one of the most expensive programs.
10:15 AM roycroft: regardless, uazandy is not asking about catia per se, but about a post-processor for a 3 axis machine for catia
10:16 AM roycroft: being unfamiliar with catia, i have no idea if it has any cam capability, or, if not, what cam software works with catia files
10:20 AM lcnc-relay: <rs> apparantly there is a cam module for catia and it can even output g-code
10:22 AM lcnc-relay: <rs> i would start modelling something simple and posting it for fanuc or siemens
12:48 PM roycroft: so today's microsoft saga is more frustrating than usual
12:49 PM roycroft: "you are blocking our email. here is the error message you send us indicating that it is being blocked. what do we have to do to mitigate this?"
12:49 PM roycroft: "our records show that you are not being blocked"
12:50 PM roycroft: "i sent you the error message that indicates we're being blocked, with the code. please mitigate"
12:50 PM roycroft: "you are not being blocked - you might check with your isp to see if they have done something on their end"
12:51 PM roycroft: "we are the isp. if you're not blocking us, then why are you sending us bounce messages saying we're blocked and why do you not deliver the emails?"
12:51 PM roycroft: "our records show that you are not being blocked" ...
12:51 PM roycroft: usually the admit that they're blocking us, and give us some excuse for why it will take them 2 days to unblock us
01:21 PM roycroft: i should like to point out that the reason we're being blocked has nothing to do with us specifically - it's poor behavior of some of our network neighbors that gets us sucked into network blocks of too wide a scope
01:21 PM roycroft: and after today i'm looking into renumbering or moving our primary mail server
01:22 PM roycroft: i cannot tolerate being pushed for my neighbors' behavior
01:25 PM xxcoder: ugh
01:26 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> I wonder if the el5102 would wire well into HAL
01:27 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> +beckhoff
01:27 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> I guess i only need the current position value
01:29 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> Cant wait to use flexgui too
01:29 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> and make it beautiful
01:29 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> im planning a 4 axis aciera with spindle orientation!!!
01:30 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> for crazy carousel turning on the 4th axis!!!
01:30 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> * via the 4th axis!!! (rotating table)
02:20 PM xxcoder: interesting oil cooler https://youtu.be/WI4CQ3qOETc
02:27 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> I love metal 3d printing
02:29 PM xxcoder: oh water AND oil cooling
02:29 PM xxcoder: me too soda
02:34 PM roycroft: microsoft just told me that they are mitigating the block that they claim does not exist
02:34 PM * roycroft is ready to exit this business
02:34 PM xxcoder: considering they managed to break the home, then task they seem to be in freefall
02:39 PM xxcoder: or lunar lol. sadly bridge can only see username, and not display name
03:36 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> Im happy with both
03:38 PM xxcoder: 👍
03:39 PM roycroft: both what? both kinds of music - country and western?
03:39 PM xxcoder: display name or username
03:40 PM roycroft: oh
03:40 PM roycroft: both is best, but if it's a community where you know the folks, and they don't go around nick-switching a lot, just one or the other can be ok
03:40 PM xxcoder: for brief time before discord killed it, I had upside down xxcoder display nick for discord side so I dont ping myself constantly
03:41 PM xxcoder: also had xxcodery for discord for a bit
03:41 PM xxcoder: I dont want to change my username so yeah
04:02 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> roycroft: so, what's your current thoughts on the win 10 vs. 11 ?????
04:04 PM roycroft: i have no thoughts on that specifically, other than i dislike microsoft's refusing to support a large percentage of computers that are perfectly capable of running windows 11, and assume it's some kind of collusion with intel
04:04 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> collusion with all the manufacturers
04:06 PM roycroft: i get not supporting an ibm xt with 640kB of ram
04:07 PM roycroft: but any intel- or amd-based 64bit computer built within the last decade should be able to run windows 11
04:07 PM roycroft: and the hacks that let folks install it on unsupported hardware prove that
04:07 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> seems to be lots of ways to get it done...
04:08 PM roycroft: other than that, i have no thoughts
04:08 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> ok
04:08 PM roycroft: i don't use windows except for dedicated apps that only run on windows
04:08 PM roycroft: and everything i use currently runs on windows 10 or earlier
04:08 PM roycroft: i still have a couple 32 bit apps that won't run on anything newer than xp
04:09 PM roycroft: and i run them on an xp virtual machine (that is not connected to the internet)
04:09 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> there is compatability mode
04:09 PM roycroft: i use mac os for workstations and bsd/linux for servers
04:10 PM roycroft: i've not been able to get that to work
04:10 PM roycroft: and it's easier at this point just to load the xp vm whenever i need one of those apps
04:10 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> whatever works for ya
04:10 PM roycroft: which i rarely need
04:11 PM roycroft: fontographer is one of the apps (an older version, of course), and i use that maybe 2-3x/year

05:01 PM fdarling: Is there a way to build LinuxCNC with debug symbols so that backtraces show function/line numbers and such?
05:15 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> fdarling: I do not know... sorry that might be a question for either the developer mailing list or on the forum
05:15 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> well - it is back together. Don't think I forgot anything..
05:15 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/YpQ3UpHcthhFDPhCA
05:18 PM JT-Shop: I wish the c3 was back together
05:19 PM JT-Shop: sam what is that?
05:19 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> carb for the hyster forklift
05:19 PM JT-Shop: oh gas forklift?
05:20 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> pretty much every orifice was plugged..
05:20 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yes
05:20 PM JT-Shop: nice
05:20 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> got the last part today
05:21 PM JT-Shop: I got the half shaft and strut mount cleaned up and painted today
05:21 PM JT-Shop: need to clean up the ujoint holes a bit looks like a bit of not smooth
05:22 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> nice.. I hate suspention work.
05:22 PM JT-Shop: maybe hammer marks dunno
05:23 PM JT-Shop: I don't find suspension work bad... I guess it just depends on the design
05:23 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> well - around here - in the salt belt.. Everything is a fight
05:23 PM JT-Shop: I bet
05:24 PM JT-Shop: I use a lot of break free and time
05:26 PM JT-Shop: it's dark now time to call it a day
05:29 PM xxcoder: one postive thing about moving 130 miles south is daylight lasts few minutes longer lol
05:43 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> xxcoder: That sentence got me to check for the first time how far away I live from where I grew up, 1016km
05:43 PM xxcoder: fun lol
05:44 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Though I lived in western Australia for a while
05:45 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Which was 14,175 km away
05:47 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> The maximum possible distance would be 20,037.5km
05:51 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> well - it runs without the choke 100% on now.. Like it runs with it totally open
05:52 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Congratulations, is there a feeling of satisfaction?
05:53 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> well - I see there is a ton of slop in the throttle shaft. didn't even think of looking at that. gas leaks out if it which is weird.
05:53 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> (a little gas)
05:54 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Well, sounds like you've improved it at least 50%
05:55 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Though not exploding when you drive it might be preferable
05:56 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Growing up I always hated the smell of gas forklift exhausts
05:57 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Like rotten lettuce
05:59 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> It didn't help that I grew up on the biggest lettuce farm in the country which had 5 gas forklifts.
05:59 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol
06:00 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> seems good.. Now I am waiting for the hydraulic filter
06:01 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Are they significantly different from a regular oil filter? Other than the price I assume
06:03 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> not much - other than some are on the pressure side of things.. this one is not
06:03 PM lcnc-relay: <redboro_@> A nice milestone for me, got my permanent (if there is such a thing) panel arranged, and a spot to mount it. It’ll live under the lathe, I’ve got acrylic panels to enclose everything once it’s in place. Next step is to wire the panel, then start bringing the gizmos online. Then the scary part - software
06:03 PM lcnc-relay: <redboro_@> https://jauriarts.org/_heisenbridge/media/jauriarts.org/yHivMMGwHqKpycVlkctkzmrs/F09E9cMDyrw/IMG_2094.jpg

06:04 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Neat!
06:04 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Very clean, now you need 5m of rgb lighting and fans to cool them
06:04 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> what are you going to use for a computer?
06:05 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> finally figured out I forgot a sping (big ass spring) that returned the carb to idle. Thought I had hooked the governer linkage up wrong
06:06 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> That might not be optional
06:10 PM lcnc-relay: <redboro_@> I’ve been using a little mini pc. It was cheap and the specs are reasonable. I’ve got a touch screen monitor for it, although I’ve been using a mouse & keyboard while I’ve been setting everything up.
06:11 PM lcnc-relay: I have LinuxCNC running on it, and I finally got to the point where halshow sees all my hardware and I can move the steppers, so I figured time to strap everything to the lathe!
06:11 PM lcnc-relay: <redboro_@> https://jauriarts.org/_heisenbridge/media/jauriarts.org/eavmCQShTGlaTWBYQTMSvUQG/FS2UPqAPWxg/IMG_2102.png
06:11 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> very nice - good luck!
06:12 PM xxcoder: thats great idea. cool
06:13 PM Tom_L: skunkworks ever attempt converting an inch config to mm?
06:14 PM Tom_L: sad thing is i'll never use it once i test these ops routines. so alot of work for maybe nothing?
06:17 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> In anticipation of 3 days of rain and a missing garage door, I created a spur of the moment lean to canopy/paint booth in 65 minutes yesterday, in the dark and the rain. Which I think should be a Steam achievement tbh.
06:17 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> https://jauriarts.org/_heisenbridge/media/jauriarts.org/NgduOsOHPAYqFywXBeImhMiW/zd6v4yfI6Zs/20251102_1801591.jpg
06:18 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I don't know if I have..
06:19 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> probably - but I don't remember
06:19 PM Tom_L: hopefully i won't get in much trouble mult most things by 25.4
06:20 PM Tom_L: working inch config
06:20 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> cool
06:20 PM Tom_L: say cool when it works :)
06:20 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> If anyting I probably went from mm to inch
06:20 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol
06:21 PM Tom_L: it doesn't have to work 'good' just enough to test the ops
06:21 PM Tom_L: some guy wanted a mm version of the probe sample
06:21 PM Tom_L: i started one but didn't keep up
06:24 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> some great camera work
06:24 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> needs some adjustment.. but so far so good
06:24 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/93fHnHjGVPsTiseT9
06:29 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Sounds eager
07:39 PM roycroft: my power feeder works brilliantly, now that it's properly mounted
07:39 PM * roycroft just finished that, and is almost done with the phase one table saw refurbishment
07:52 PM roycroft: phase two will be in a year or so, btw
07:57 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> I still haven't put the new pulleys on mine
07:57 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> sitting on the sofa of holding
08:05 PM xxcoder: nice. turboss fixed the nicks from discord, so its now display name, not username. only global though, per-server display name wont be used
08:07 PM lcnc-relay: <Lesliet@> appreciate all the hard work you guys do to make stuff nice around here.
08:08 PM lcnc-relay: <TurBoss> hehe thank you!
09:25 PM firephoto__ is now known as firephoto_
09:42 PM lcnc-relay: <@> Alright before I go and wire up 4 limit switches, how difficult is it relying on linear encoders for honing & limits over switches? The switches integrated easy, but I’d like to avoid mounting them to lathe if unnecessary
09:57 PM _unreal_: You should always use limits. regardless of using soft or encoder based limits.
09:58 PM _unreal_: encoder based limites require you to run into the end stop
09:59 PM _unreal_: The best way to use encoder limits is to have one hard limit switch and a known distance away from that limit.
10:29 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcodeᴦ@> .
10:29 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcodeᴦ@> @: could you say something again? for some strange reason your display name didnt show up, just @
10:30 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcodeᴦ@> oh it didnt show up for quote too
10:55 PM lcnc-relay: <@> .
10:56 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcodeᴦ@> thanks. turboss knows this now, will evenually find why yours break it lol
11:47 PM roycroft: he has a cloaking device, xxcoder
11:47 PM roycroft: it's simple
11:47 PM xxcoder: lol
11:47 PM roycroft: the romulans have invaded discord
11:57 PM lcnc-relay: <Olli (RIO)@> moin
