12:33 AM _unreal_: Tom_L, I'm starting to look at options. PANASONIC TOUGHPAD FZ-G1 these are dirt cheap on ebay
12:49 AM _unreal_: i5 8gb ram, ethernet port, touch screen its more or less a TABLET laptop
01:04 AM Deejay: moin
01:44 AM roycroft: i figured out the shifting text thing with lightburn
01:45 AM roycroft: there is an alignment led with crosshairs to the left of the working "laser"
01:45 AM roycroft: and lightburn knows the offset to the cursor
01:45 AM roycroft: i had disabled the offset so i could use the main beam for alignment
01:45 AM roycroft: the upgrade reenabled the offset
01:46 AM roycroft: so my bad - i should have kept an accurate list of mods from defaults, and checked them all after the upgrade
02:26 AM jpa-: i tried to be smart by putting line lasers on two sides of the main beam, to get the crosshair at the center.. but somehow it never stays perfectly aligned
02:29 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> moin
03:31 AM Tom_L: _unreal_, put windows in a VM then use it?
03:31 AM Tom_L: XP etc
03:33 AM Tom_L: morning
07:09 AM _unreal_: Tom_L, ?
07:09 AM _unreal_: computers like the one I just listed PANASONIC TOUGHPAD FZ-G1 go for under $100 on ebay. thats touch screen computer and everything
07:11 AM _unreal_: why buy, a display, and py computer 2x and spend some $800 for them when I could spend maybe $300 for everything including shipping
07:11 AM _unreal_: these tough pc's with touch screens even have toughened glass displays
08:26 AM Tom_L: _unreal_, use a vm and load the windows driver there
08:27 AM Tom_L: would depend on the latency of the Toughpad
08:46 AM _unreal_: I dont know what you mean by loading a VM?
08:46 AM _unreal_: I'd be installing a straight linux install
08:47 AM _unreal_: looking at this on https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/High-Quality-13-3-Inch-Intel_1601268984414.html?spm=a2700.galleryofferlist.normal_offer.d_image.2ba913a0fX0ATv&priceId=824ecab7ac0848948f77dbd1c6d95100
08:50 AM Tom_L: for linux create a virtual machine and load windows then load the driver for windows that you can't get for linux
08:51 AM Tom_L: i would check the latency on one of those first
08:52 AM Tom_L: onboard video driver could cause an issue among other things
08:52 AM Tom_L: it's not as big an issue with mesa cards but still should be checked
09:57 AM rdtsc: This smells like a PR stunt - planned - https://docs.arduino.cc/hardware/uno-q
09:57 AM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
09:58 AM rdtsc: nevertheless, full linux MPU + CPU? sounds interesting
09:59 AM rdtsc: pcw_at_home may be interested in this, "realtime" right in the tagline
10:14 AM rdtsc: pre-order for €47,60
10:16 AM jpa-: usual problem with such platforms is that in two years they'll have v2 with some other chip on it and low-level software portability becomes and issue
10:33 AM _unreal_: uno-q with no VIDEO out it has little if any value to me. I'd love that IF it had video out. Then I could change up the controller in my current laser etcher machine to be self contained all on the main controller board which. currently is an arduiono uno
10:33 AM _unreal_: My laser runs on grbl
10:34 AM _unreal_: if there is video out I have not found it
10:36 AM _unreal_: AHHH found it USB-C video
10:36 AM _unreal_: interesting
10:36 AM _unreal_: though I dont have room
10:47 AM lcnc-relay: <lesliet@> moin
10:47 AM lcnc-relay: <lesliet@> think I figured out a good way to deal with speed control on the R2E4 head
10:49 AM lcnc-relay: <lesliet@> there's a prox sensor mount for the hi gear/ low gear select, one issue a lot of people seem to have had difficulty with is that in low gear, the spindle rotation is reversed. Was reading the manual on the vfd, and there's an input specifically to switch forward and reverse directions, so I think this can just be a hardware solution
10:49 AM lcnc-relay: <lesliet@> and then the varispeed part has a variable resistor mounted on the shaft
10:50 AM lcnc-relay: <lesliet@> so I think I'm going to set up the vfd to just output 60hz and the three phases I need to run the spindle motor, and deal with direction changes
10:50 AM lcnc-relay: <lesliet@> the speed changes can be via the original varispeed belt system
10:50 AM lcnc-relay: <lesliet@> although I am going to ditch the air motor to run that for a servo/stepper
10:51 AM lcnc-relay: <lesliet@> so today's goal is to finish stripping the head, cleaning, and painting head parts
12:36 PM _unreal_: so I have one of these UIS-322b specifically. https://web.archive.org/web/20221203032338/https://msnswitch.com/ got the latest firmware from archive.org and updated it
12:37 PM _unreal_: would be nice to figure out how to control the relays as one can do from the HTML
12:37 PM _unreal_: regardless could come in handy
12:38 PM _unreal_: lesliet is the input a RPM based or multi signal per RPM?
12:39 PM _unreal_: in other words if there is more then 2 position signals per rotation you can identify direction on a single direction input. I could see where direction could be an issue
12:59 PM _unreal_: well this weekend has kind of sucked in a way. most of yesterday was messed up by having to quote a job. "NOT AN ISSUE" just I had to drive from boca to west palm. in the middle of the day
12:59 PM _unreal_: big $ luxury yacht project
01:11 PM * roycroft has a lot to do, but today is the opening concert of the new eugene symphony season, with the new maestro, so he'll be putting other things on hold to go listen to some good music
01:12 PM roycroft: it's their first ever matinee performance - for the last 60 years it's always been the third thursday eveninf of the month, with the occasional special performance on a saturday night, such as a messiah sing-along in december
01:13 PM roycroft: but the new guy wants to mix things up, i guess
01:24 PM lcnc-relay: <krey2892@> Can you recommend me a CNC router for my hackerspace?
01:24 PM lcnc-relay: For context we have 3 CNCs already, but they have kinda high barrier to entry in terms of learning how to use them and most of the new members find that intimidating and are afraid to use them for us to want to do something like "prusa but a CNC" so that anyone can just use them effortlessly..
01:24 PM lcnc-relay: * Enclosure
01:24 PM lcnc-relay: * Automatic tool changer

01:25 PM lcnc-relay: <krey2892@> Current proposal is https://www.makera.com/pages/makera-z1 but that seems like bad value
01:31 PM lcnc-relay: <krey2892@> Can you recommend me a CNC router for my hackerspace?

01:31 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcoder@> please don't edit large block of text
01:32 PM lcnc-relay: <krey2892@> xxcoder@: oh just noticed the bridge to IRC sorry
01:32 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcoder@> no problem 🙂
01:32 PM lcnc-relay: <lesliet@> _unreal_: as built, this one does not have an encoder or anything to get rpm feedback from the spindle. I've seen mods, but positioning is challenging, with the back gear operation.
01:33 PM NetPipe: https://youtube.com/shorts/dM2CN-GR4rU?si=ov-T9IMzSNa9WApx
01:33 PM lcnc-relay: <lesliet@> Just has a prox sensor on the hi/low selector, and a variable resistor on the mechanism that changes the belt speed
01:34 PM _unreal_: lesliet are you looking for exact position or are you looking for RPM on a spindle?
01:37 PM lcnc-relay: <lesliet@> I know I won't get exact position without some sort of encoder. I can get "close enough " on rpm, by measuring rpm and comparing to the resistance I can read on the variable resistor on the belt adjuster.
01:38 PM lcnc-relay: <lesliet@> need to get some pics of the varispeed system, so people have some idea what I'm talking about, there
01:43 PM rdtsc: krey2892 take a look at some of the machines others have used: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/12-milling mostly these are larger machines
01:51 PM lcnc-relay: <lesliet@> rdtsc: wasn't OP looking for a router?
01:52 PM lcnc-relay: <krey2892@> rdtsc007@ We have big and very capable CNCs the issue is making something that's like entry-level and can do PCBs so that people get some confidence to use it to then go through learning how to use the rest of them
01:54 PM lcnc-relay: <krey2892@> Like it's hackerspace if there aren't any with ATC in the budget then we can just engineer some on it.. most of the CNCs, 3D printers etc.. are heavily modified here but something that just works for people to get confidence and be capable for PCBs since that's kinda high barrier to entry as well would be great
02:13 PM Scopeuk: there is the coin op
02:14 PM Scopeuk: https://github.com/BrendonBuilds/CoinOp
02:15 PM _unreal_: lesliet you still have not answered the question as of yet. WHAT is your goal. DO you need RPM feed back or are you looking for absolute position feed back as in if you were to run a controlled drag knife or tapping functions
02:15 PM _unreal_: personally I'd thread mill
02:19 PM lcnc-relay: <allaboutjake@> Trying my hand at Probe Basic. Sim works fine but when I try to use it with a real machine configuration I get "VTBackPlot has no attribute machine_ext_scale". Did I miss something obvious in the install procedure?
02:23 PM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> Did you follow the docs for converting your config files?
02:23 PM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> If the sin works the issue is somewhere in your machine configs
02:23 PM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> Sim*
02:24 PM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> allaboutjake@: ^^^
02:25 PM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> https://kcjengr.github.io/probe_basic/machine_config.html
02:27 PM lcnc-relay: <allaboutjake@> Yeah tried to do this procedure. Maybe I missed something. Will try again
02:33 PM lcnc-relay: <lesliet@> _unreal_: I think you're reading stuff into my statement that wasn't there? Honestly, not even seeking help on that particular system, although I'm sure I'll have all kinds of questions when I get to configuring LinuxCNC
02:33 PM lcnc-relay: <lesliet@> I was more just commenting on " hey this is what I'm working on, today"
03:00 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/428933948484354049/1426992642171998319/VID_20251012_105859_355.mp4?ex=68ed3df6&is=68ebec76&hm=2474bf2b54cc39a68ebbdbf1083193b366367905208ec2838709bde5ef21d933&
03:00 PM xxcoder: interesting. whats it used for?
03:01 PM lcnc-relay: <lesliet@> hollow ways?
03:01 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> Heat sealing knife
03:01 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> for a bag making machine
03:01 PM lcnc-relay: <lesliet@> ah!
03:01 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> not surface ground yet
03:01 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> this is from the mill
03:01 PM lcnc-relay: <lesliet@> so, hole for heat element
03:01 PM xxcoder: interesting indeed. huge bags?
03:01 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> Yep, 16mm hole for the heater
03:02 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> well, not really, they put two or sometimes even three rolls of foil running at the same time side by side
03:02 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> or sometimes, large bags indeed
03:02 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> I developed my own drilling system for this
03:03 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> because i cant source a gundrill at a reasonable price which works in Cast iron, regular gundrills score the inner diameter and erode it.
03:03 PM lcnc-relay: <pink_vampire@> My large cnc makes first chips right now
03:03 PM xxcoder: nice. I was wondering if inside bore was important but seems not.
03:03 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> Good pink_vampire@ post vid?
03:04 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> * vid!
03:04 PM xxcoder: pink nice
03:04 PM lcnc-relay: <pink_vampire@> I can't upload here stuff.
03:04 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> inside bore has a 50 micron tolerance
03:04 PM lcnc-relay: <lesliet@> sodakaustik@: how are you making the hole?
03:04 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> pink_vampire@ upload a media link like i did
03:04 PM xxcoder: you kinda can, post in #off-topic then copy download url here
03:04 PM lcnc-relay: <lesliet@> pink_vampire@: can link somewhere else, like yt or imgur
03:05 PM lcnc-relay: <pink_vampire@> I don't have anything on my phone
03:05 PM lcnc-relay: <pink_vampire@> I don't have social media accounts
03:05 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> by Media i just meant image or video
03:05 PM lcnc-relay: <lesliet@> congrats on getting it up and running
03:06 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> lesliet@ i posted in offtopic
03:06 PM xxcoder: saw it too, imgur is easy to paste images into, and doesnt even need account
03:06 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> Its a hollow tube
03:06 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> i such the chips through the tube
03:06 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> suck*
03:06 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> with a vaccuum cleaner...
03:08 PM xxcoder: nice indeed
03:16 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> I have ordered some ethercat servos for the other aciera
03:16 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> This one shall remain a manual
03:16 PM Tom_L: that bar is cast?
03:16 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> Cast iron yea
03:16 PM Tom_L: huh
03:17 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> Preferable for continuous 400°c operation to avoid warping
03:17 PM Tom_L: kinda dirty to machine
03:17 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> at least thats what ive been told
03:17 PM Tom_L: right
03:17 PM Tom_L: more stable for sure
03:17 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> I like Ci because it sucks up all the leftover coolant from the machine and makes it very snazzy
03:17 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> And clean looking
03:18 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> not nice to breathe
03:19 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> Are my posts in #offtopic visible to non discord users?

03:23 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> I hope this does not appear spammy
03:23 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> These are the things i posted in offtopic
03:23 PM xxcoder: it did, I'd suggest imgur or something next time :D
03:24 PM xxcoder: I wish I can allow images and videos upload but bridge handles it badly.
03:24 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> Ill learn to use imgur
03:24 PM lcnc-relay: <lesliet@> it's pretty easy, and the links don't have to be public
03:30 PM Tom_L: pretty cool
03:30 PM Tom_L: nice long lathe bed
03:32 PM xxcoder: yeah. I wonder though if the long tool could be adopted into collet so you can have various sizes attachments. though I doubt you need very long drill often.
03:34 PM Tom_L: do you use 4 flute on cast iron?
03:34 PM Tom_L: looks like it
03:57 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> It a 2 flute
03:57 PM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> Oh you mean the end mill? yeah its a regular 4 flute end mill
04:14 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram@> Hello
04:17 PM xxcoder: hi
04:50 PM lcnc-relay: <allaboutjake@> "VTBackPlot has no attribute machine_ext_scale" is winning. Can’t find my misconfiguration. "machine_ext_scale" doesn’t appear many places on the web or in GitHub.
05:10 PM Tom_L: mystery variable
05:10 PM Tom_L: ask lcvette, he's all about probe basic
05:11 PM Tom_L: or turboss
05:11 PM Tom_L: also a channel #pyvcp or whatever it's called in discord
05:13 PM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> What's the extents of your machine config
05:13 PM xxcoder: also in irc :) theres qtyvcp
05:13 PM Tom_L: lcvette, is that the right channel?
05:13 PM Tom_L: probably not

06:01 PM lcnc-relay: <allaboutjake@> also added a line for this mystery "machine_ext_scale" to no avail
06:04 PM lcnc-relay: <allaboutjake@> Actually is "machine-ext-scale"
06:04 PM lcnc-relay: <allaboutjake@> But it smells like a version problem but I installed the debs as instructed in the docs with the prescribed versions
06:04 PM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> Bit sin loads without issue correct?
06:04 PM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> Debs?

06:06 PM lcnc-relay: <allaboutjake@> yea sim loads

06:38 PM lcnc-relay: <allaboutjake@> Some of the docs might need an update. "pb_examples" didn’t exist for me after the install and "probe_basic_machine_config_setup_files" was just "machine_config_setup_files"
