01:00 AM Deejay: moin
02:08 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Moin
02:09 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> roycroft: Very nice
04:38 AM Tom_L: morning
05:28 AM t4nk_fn: think I'm gonna go out and buy me a vise anyhow
05:28 AM t4nk_fn: *sigh*
05:29 AM t4nk_fn: I keep wondering if I could squeeze the tube that's inside the seat of the chair flat somehow
05:31 AM t4nk_fn: and perhaps cut it a bit shorter, and then give a few cuts from the inside.. without damaging the tube it sits in
05:32 AM t4nk_fn: and then squeeze it a bit more, hoping to get it to bend off of the sides a bit
05:35 AM t4nk_fn: as it is it's not gonna budge in any case
05:36 AM t4nk_fn: I only got a small pipe wrench, but I guess buying a bigger one is gonna be no guarantee at all
05:37 AM t4nk_fn: so buying a decent vise seems like a wise decision because it'll come in handy on a lot of occasions
05:49 AM lcnc-relay: <allaboutjake@> Tried all the latency tricks listed here. https://dantalion.nl/2024/09/29/linuxcnc-latency-jitter-kernel-parameter-tuning.html . -- Got latency down to 28 with --nobase while running gears and stress-ng -- but resizing the windows really spikes the latency. -- worst case spike up to 81 during window resize and spamming a drag operation. (Dell OptiPlex 7050m Micro i7-7700T 16GB 256GB)
06:02 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Is there gpu accelerated gui settings in that version of debian? Can't remember
06:08 AM lcnc-relay: <allaboutjake@> glxinfo shows Mesa Intel HD Graphics 630, so I think that means its using the GPU
06:10 AM lcnc-relay: <allaboutjake@> I just isolated a 3rd processor and now my peak is 52. I think I'm in the "good enough for a 7i96s" range. Though I kind of regret not getting a Pi 5 instead of this intel box-- had the impression that intel was preferred. Need to RTFM better next time.
08:15 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Actually, qt opengl settings may be seperate
08:19 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Actually, had anyone trued running the vulkan wrapper?
08:19 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> *tried
08:34 AM Tom_L: t4nk_fn, the chair still whippin yer arse?
08:38 AM t4nk_fn: it is..
08:39 AM t4nk_fn: just got back from the hardware store, unfortunately they only had a vise left with a 10cm span, I had my eyes on a 15cm span
08:40 AM t4nk_fn: but.. I came home, unpacked the thing, put it on the tube upside down and started twisting
08:40 AM t4nk_fn: heard and felt a loud pop
08:40 AM t4nk_fn: which turned out to be my shoulder ;)
08:42 AM t4nk_fn: that tube's wall is probably.. 3-5mm thick or so, and I presume it's steel
08:43 AM Tom_L: in the end you will find out it was the only one made that was threaded into the base :)
08:43 AM t4nk_fn: the vise deformed it a bit, I guess I could squish it a bit more, but I alreade sort of deformed the handle on the vise
08:44 AM t4nk_fn: yeah, lol, that really stuck in my mind.. it would literally be the only one
08:45 AM t4nk_fn: anyhow, deformed enough for the vise to have a good grip on it.. but for the love of the universe, it won't budge
08:46 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> allaboutjake@ you could try a crappy pcie video card if you have one.. it used to be 'on board' were not the greatest because of shared memory - but I haven't run into that issue for quite a while.
08:47 AM t4nk_fn: and there we have it.. vise on there, upside down, won't budge, and there's not much leverage I can get by gripping the vise either
08:48 AM t4nk_fn: yet I need to get that darned tube out.
08:49 AM t4nk_fn: it's not one of the smoothest running of vises I've ever handled either btw
08:51 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> We have used off lease 4th gen i5 hp's at work and those machines had wonderful latency.. then bought some 6th gens. I tested them and could not get decent latency no matter what I tried.
08:56 AM Tom_L: i think the i5 has better results than an i7
09:08 AM lcnc-relay: <lesliet@> t4nk_fn: What the chair is gonna look like when t4nk_fn is done with it: https://silodrome.com/hoss-fly-big-block-barstool/
09:09 AM t4nk_fn: lol
09:12 AM lcnc-relay: <lesliet@> can't be tight if it's a liquid
09:12 AM lcnc-relay: <lesliet@> just sayin
11:14 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> I need to find the customer list for those bar stools. They all have more money than brains.
11:15 AM Tom_L: yeah i think a smallblock would have been adequate
11:17 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> contact me for a 2,000+ HP version
11:17 AM Tom_L: with a blower?
11:18 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> or turbo
11:18 AM Tom_L: blower would suck their brains out if they had any
11:18 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> hell I'll make you an electric version that shoots out from under you
11:19 AM Tom_L: it would sell better nowdays
11:19 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> yeah us gas powered old folks are just nostalgia now
11:20 AM Tom_L: i was outside this morning in time to see my neighbor loading up a square body nova onto a trailer
11:20 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> i recall watching some car restomod show and the mechanics didn't know how to adjust the rockers on an old small block chevy
11:21 AM Tom_L: aparently it's been sitting in his garage since he moved in
11:21 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> i think one of the old body guys had to show them
11:21 AM Tom_L: my bil couldn't find his spark plugs on an ohc he had
11:22 AM Tom_L: 3 of them standing over the open hood
11:22 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> "they'er in there somewhere"
11:22 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> under all the plastic covers
11:27 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> My plugin hybrid is supercharged
11:27 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> read todays backlog, looks like people are still confusing base thread vs servo thread latency jitter requirements
11:30 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> lucid.nonsense@ 13V vs 12v batteries?
11:31 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> 240v battery, supercharged v6 3l petrol engine, in sport mode it adds the electric motor on top
11:33 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Though you can also drive it in pure electric
11:33 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> hybrid transmission designs can be fun
11:33 AM Tom_L: does the tesla come with a honda generator in the trunk instead of a spare?
11:33 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> two sources of power
11:35 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> I'd like to see the efficiency numbers
11:36 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Depends entirely on how you drive it, when I have my sensible head on I can do most journeys in pure electric
11:36 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> reminds of the first gen cars with a horse and an engine
11:37 AM Tom_L: leno probably has one
11:38 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> it's too bad that all the electric vehicles are all so closed source with the controllers so obfuscated
11:39 AM roycroft: if it were really a first generation car then the traffic laws would be first generation, and you would be required to have someone walking in front of the car swinging a lantern back and forth to warn people that a car is coming
11:39 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> You can manually put it in charge mode on fast roads so you have electric for built up areas, which is the achiles heel of combustion engines
11:40 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> my old job 🙂
11:40 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> baby on a bumper
11:40 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> https://www.electricclassiccars.co.uk/
11:40 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> These guys are about an hour away from me
11:41 AM roycroft: and the irony, of course, is that while many of the early cars were electric, those lantern (and many early headlight) were oil-powered
11:41 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> lucid.nonsense@ I thought about doing that here in the USA about 20 years ago
11:42 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> but there was hardly anywhere to charge them, and really long cords are expensive
11:43 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> 220kw in a mini must be terrifying
11:44 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> I wonder how much it even costs to license the teslar charging plugs?
11:44 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> And I say that as an ex motorcycle racer
11:45 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Might not be licensed, salvaged possibly
11:45 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> for 1 or 2
11:45 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Probably lots of teslas planted in trees going
11:46 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> How much $$ does it take to be Tesla charge station compatible?
11:46 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> I thought they just used normal eu plugs here
11:46 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Probably by law
11:47 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Fastest charging cars are Porsche Taycan I think
11:47 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> sounds sane so we can't have that here 🙂
11:48 AM roycroft: even "fast charging" take too long to charge for the average american
11:48 AM roycroft: and our country is so much bigger than european countries that people are used to driving greater distances than europeans, generally
11:48 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Taycan can charge at 320kw
11:48 AM roycroft: those are big challenges to universal adoption of electric vehicles here
11:48 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> @800v
11:49 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> remember most uhmericans are Idiots
11:49 AM roycroft: what makes more sense is "fast swap" battery packs that are standardized
11:49 AM xxcoder: fast charges is useful for longer trips. average trips isnt that far. you could just do 240v or even just 120v recharge over night
11:49 AM Tom_L: i can see grandma changing a fast swap pack
11:50 AM roycroft: so when you reach your limit of range and pull into a filling station, instead of sitting there for 20 minutes or more for a "fast charge", a robot pulls out your battery pack and replaces it with a charged one, and you're on your way in 5 minutes
11:50 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> That's what I do, most of my journeys aren't more than 15 miles
11:50 AM Tom_L: like 20lb propane tanks?
11:50 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> School run and shopping
11:50 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> the race is already on for the battery pack that gets to be the standard and the robot that changes them
11:51 AM roycroft: i'm not sure at this point if/when i'll buy an ev, but if i do, i'll keep an internal combustion engine vehicle for long road trips
11:51 AM roycroft: and use the ev for my daily driving
11:51 AM xxcoder: thats what id do too
11:51 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> It'll be the EU that forces the standardisation
11:51 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> Chyna
11:51 AM roycroft: another think that could help would be inductive charging by embedding charging cables in the freeway lanes
11:52 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Very inefficient though
11:52 AM roycroft: that would be a massive infrastructure program, and the logistics of billing people would be difficult
11:52 AM roycroft: i think the fast swap battery packs is the real answer
11:52 AM roycroft: but that again has logistic propblems
11:53 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Or just use a hydrogen
11:53 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Generator
11:53 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> might as well just have trolley power lines
11:53 AM * roycroft is going to start doing the joinery on his roof timbers today
11:53 AM roycroft: i need some chalk to do some marking out on the timbers
11:54 AM roycroft: if i can find the chalk that i know i have, i can start soon
11:54 AM roycroft: if not, i need to make my trip to town for weekend errands first, and pick up some chalk then
11:54 AM roycroft: i got the drawings done for the roof deck last night, and did the math to ensure they were correct
11:54 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> we can't have any of this since profit and control are the main motives
11:55 AM roycroft: i just finished doing the math again this morning, because sometimes math changes overnight
11:55 AM roycroft: this time it did not
11:56 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> is that why elementary schools in the USA keep reinventing math?
11:56 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> close enough is now good enough
11:57 AM roycroft: i'm not doing scribe rule joinery, because i can't afford for the roof to be opened up for weeks as i fit each piece
11:58 AM roycroft: i'm doing square rule joinery, where everything is laid out from a reference arris (intersection of two perpendicular planes)
11:58 AM roycroft: so i won't know if it fits until installation time
11:59 AM roycroft: which means i have to lay out and cut the joints very very carefully
12:00 PM roycroft: i'm going for holding to 1/32" at worst
12:01 PM roycroft: and even that will be interesting, because the wood could move more than that between the time i cut the joints and the time i erect the roof
01:02 PM t4nk_fn: lol, yeah, that chair got me yet again man.. hurt my shoulder pretty badly
01:02 PM xxcoder: revenge of the chair
01:04 PM roycroft: i found chalk
01:06 PM roycroft: it's funny how, the more i unpack and organize things, the easier it is to find stuff, and the fewer trips to town aremade to buy stuff that i already have but can't find
01:41 PM xxcoder: its like org stuff have huge merits
03:00 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Yes.. just having most tools organized helps so much
03:54 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Have big plans for a postgresql inventory app with qr codes, for home use
03:55 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Mostly because being maxed out on adhd meds is barely scratching the surface of the cacophony that is my head.
03:57 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> I found a box with 25 esp32s in the garage yesterday, no idea I had them
04:01 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> https://youtu.be/wuGhJrHWprg?si=6XQVQEh0Cb-G7D6u
04:01 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> I need to make a welding cart
04:02 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Would need to replace the lever with a hydraulic pump before I attempted holes like that though
04:02 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> On my press
04:15 PM JT-Shop: hmm how does beltone know my birthday? sounds like someone is selling data
04:19 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Happy birthday 🎂
04:26 PM roycroft: the dark web knows everything about you
04:26 PM roycroft: that's its job
04:26 PM roycroft: and it's very good at its job
04:42 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
04:43 PM Unterhausen: and when you say "dark web," you mean Meta corp
04:44 PM Unterhausen: local sportsball club not performing up to expectations
04:46 PM roycroft: i do not mean them
04:46 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> huh - one of the radiators from the condensing unit is all aluminum
04:46 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> that kinda sucks.. (copper radiators are worth more)
04:46 PM roycroft: they are fairly egregious, but pale in comparison to the outright and dedicated criminal activity on the dark web
04:48 PM roycroft: lunch break is over, and i should head back to work
04:48 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> the way it was built - I thought maybe it was all copper including the fins.. but then figured out it was all aluminum
04:56 PM Unterhausen: Meta has likely sold data to criminals though. And as far as JT's birthday, they are far more likely to sell it to another company than the dark web
05:52 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Has anyone else's internet been totally nuts last few weeks, both home and phone, weird lagspikes and failure to connect to websites and services. I know there's a lot of cyberwarfare going on, but it seems to have stepped up a lot.
05:59 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> not that I have noticed..
06:00 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Maybe just me, or maybe just Europe
06:01 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Been some very high profile attacks
06:01 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Jaguar Landrover still not operating as far as I know, suppliers going bankrupt
06:09 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol - this came across my feed..
06:09 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://www.youtube.com/shorts/MgnygLgwHak
06:10 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> (my video)
06:19 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> The Fartinator 2000
06:20 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> It is very cute.
06:31 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> nvme says it should be here between 6 and 9pm
06:31 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Your nvme is talking to you?
06:31 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> nvme <> usb adaptor
06:32 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> and yes - the voices in my head
06:32 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> For cloning I hope, not actual use
06:33 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> correct
06:33 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> the only other way I have is taking a laptop apart and throwing the nvme into that.
06:34 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> I have a lot of them, but the most recent one I got usb 4 40 gbit, behaves sifferently than the others
06:34 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Different
06:34 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> It shows up as an actual harddrive instead of as a usb drive
06:35 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I have a couple of older ones that don't work with the current nvme's - they are keyed different
06:36 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> This has caused some unexpected issues with installation stuff, I've had to plug it into a slower usb port intentionally to install ubuntu on my laptop
06:36 PM Tom_L: skunkworks, i thought you'd already copied a nvme drive
06:37 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I did - using a laptop with a un-occupied nvme slot
06:37 PM Tom_L: ahh
06:37 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> that is a lot of screws to take out
06:37 PM Tom_L: i posted a couple histograms on the forum
06:38 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Nice - I posted one on the mailing list. then gene took over... lol
06:40 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> tlightus?
06:41 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Maximus?
06:41 PM Tom_L: yes
06:42 PM Tom_L: i don't get on the mail list and hardly get on the forum
06:43 PM Tom_L: i'm a little sad the 1tb nvme is dead
06:43 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I have had one samsung fail on me.
06:44 PM Tom_L: it could have been the MB, i've had some odd issues with it
06:45 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> I had a samsung fail too, very surprised about it, but they had some sort of issue with early gen 4 drives
06:46 PM Tom_L: i've got a stack of 500gb but they're all sata
06:46 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Huge ballache as it was my system disk
06:47 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Current main pc has a lexar gen 5, 14gb/s
06:48 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Up until recently it's been very unstable though, memory crashes
06:48 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Bios seems to finally be sorted now
06:48 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> it just showed up!
06:49 PM Tom_L: yay
06:49 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Wohoo
06:50 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I don't think the case is ever going to be on it
06:50 PM Tom_L: mine either
06:50 PM Tom_L: unless i put it on to store it
06:51 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Like an eprom programmer
06:51 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Does it have one of those nice twist locks?
06:52 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> If not I think you should make one on the emco and make a video about it
06:53 PM Tom_L: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MNFH1PX
06:53 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> M.2 camlock
06:53 PM Tom_L: no cam lock
06:54 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> I have that one, is that one of the rubber retaining ones?
06:54 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> That goes pinging across the room
06:54 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I would be tempted to just stick a rubber band around it
06:55 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Would work
06:55 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> it will only get used for writing imates
06:55 PM Tom_L: or a clothes pin
06:55 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> imates?
06:55 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> images
06:55 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Inmates
06:55 PM Tom_L: i used the screw
06:55 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Always write my inmates
06:55 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I already dropped the screw bag on the ground. but suprisingly didn't lose it
06:56 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> My motherboard has camlocks, its very neat, less swearing
06:56 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yes - I think mine does to..
06:56 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I splurged and bought myself a x3d a few years ago..
06:58 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> the best part is the button to eject the pcie video card.
06:58 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Yeah, I got an msi motherboard again though I told myself I wouldn't, taken 6 months to get a decent bios
06:59 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol - I don't remmber the brand off the top of my head.. But the thing took minutes to boot until a decent bios update
06:59 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/Rpi5/pics/Nvme_custom_holder.jpg
07:00 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yah - I might have to grab a clothpin on the way up to the attic
07:00 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Ram settings was the big issue, puter before this I ran very overclocked water cooled ram, doing "impossible things"
07:00 PM Tom_L: make sure the bottom is insulated
07:01 PM Tom_L: i think most of them are
07:01 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Tried to do the same thing with this gen, but the whole bios was fed so it would automatically fail memory training with a custom voltage until last week
07:02 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Now I'm running impossible settings again
07:02 PM Tom_L: i used to hold smt avr chips on my copper clad programmer with my finger or a close pin
07:05 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> https://i.postimg.cc/4ysp3xPL/20251005-005211.jpg
07:06 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> 128gb at those timings are impossible according to youtube
07:08 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Obviously 2800 x 2 is what we're supposed to call ddr ram
07:08 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/attiny2313/attiny2.jpg
07:08 PM Tom_L: worked
07:08 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/attiny2313/attiny3.jpg
07:09 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Neat
07:09 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/boards/prog/prog_batch.jpg
07:09 PM Tom_L: i made a few
07:09 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> I'd like to make some pcbite cline orobes
07:09 PM Tom_L: those were replaced with the new programmer later on
07:09 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Clone
07:10 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Probes
07:11 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> One flaw with pcbite is that they won't work vertically, but if you had an arm arrangement constrained with the weight, you could load them in a control cabinet
07:12 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Which I happen to have a use for atm
07:13 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> To sniff the encoders on my mill
07:15 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> 3d printed arms and maybe just some clip on ferrite rings for weights
07:24 PM Tom_L: https://www.coolera.ru/tovar.php?tovar=15512
07:27 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Dunno about the us, but ordering things from .ru is going to get you a lot of intelligence interest in Europe
07:27 PM Tom_L: ebay has em but i'm not getting one
07:27 PM Tom_L: for the same cost i can get another nvme card
07:27 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Easy enough to knock one up on a 3d printer
07:28 PM Tom_L: that i don't have either
07:28 PM Tom_L: for the few times i need one a clothes pin will do fine
07:29 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> sons been painting... https://photos.app.goo.gl/2ggGwgtAeguAnuZ8A
07:29 PM Tom_L: cool
07:29 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Nice
07:29 PM Tom_L: about that time of year again
07:29 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yes - we have more time this year
07:29 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Watched any of the Adam Savage weathering stuff?
07:29 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I have..
07:30 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> it is pretty cool
07:30 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I am not there yet..
07:30 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> we usually just wing it and it turns out ok
07:30 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Seems pretty easy
07:30 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Water down blackbrown wash for crevice dirt
07:30 PM Tom_L: the memory will be just as good
07:31 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> And then rubnbuff for edges
07:31 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> last years turned out ok - he just outgrew it
07:31 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/CpQRt6WuBo1ij2G79
07:31 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Ut yeah prolly overkill
07:31 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Yeah saw, awesome
07:32 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> his hemet is normal size - I had just shrunk everything else. Now I am making everything normal sized.
07:33 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> My boy is getting to that age, expect he'll go from my chest height to towering over me any day
07:34 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol - he is 10.. growing like a weed
07:34 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Hah, my boy just turned 12
07:34 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> my daughter is 13
07:35 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> I was the same as him though, small, until suddenly I was one of tallest in my year
07:35 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/Jkx7rEbEagBxvubZ6
07:36 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Aww
07:37 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol - I am going to have to find out what else I have around here that is 'retro'
07:37 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> the mac dos compatibility card went for $230
07:38 PM Tom_L: heh
07:38 PM xxcoder: way to go
07:38 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Any ataris laying around?
07:39 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> My boy's obsession lately is a game called Delta rune
07:40 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Looks like an early Amiga game
07:42 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Shouldn't have bothered with the ps5 😅
07:44 PM Tom_L: my kid's boss approached him the other day and want's him to start programming a mill turn. aparently nobody else there knows how
07:46 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Noone does until they learn how
07:47 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> A philosophy that has landed me in no end of trouble
07:48 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Anyway, it's stupid o'clock here, night folks
07:48 PM Tom_L: later
08:04 PM roycroft: there are atari/amiga emulators out there, if you can find a rom image of the game
08:05 PM roycroft: you can run it on a peecee
08:05 PM * roycroft got a good start on the shop roof today, but realized that big beams are a *lot* more work than small boards
08:05 PM roycroft: like not just proportionally more work
08:06 PM roycroft: not exponentially more, but much more than proportionally
08:06 PM roycroft: i'll probably be a month doing joinery
08:06 PM roycroft: at which point the rainy season will almost surely have settled in
08:13 PM xxcoder: yeah once it gets to where if its not raining, its coming in minutes it would be bit hard
08:21 PM KennyLog-in is now known as RoscoColtrane
08:38 PM unreal is now known as _unreal_
08:39 PM _unreal_: ve7it, I've finally gotten to a point where I'm starting to look at things aside from slave to setteling into this new house
08:41 PM _unreal_: I've got a lot of BLDC motors as you know. I'm going to setup one or both motor controllers I have. not the one I sent you but an advanced one that has stepping, and an other one that is base on amplitute or what ever (speed control) regardless I need to start load testing a lot of these motors
08:42 PM _unreal_: the BLDC speed controller is capable of 200 watts, the advanced controller is well :) can do many AMPS and volts.
08:47 PM roycroft: i have a big tarp :)
08:52 PM xxcoder: nice
09:34 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/GVEWjkYLYvimJFBg8
09:37 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Running over night
09:49 PM Tom_L: pretty darn good
09:49 PM Tom_L: i only did isolcpus 2.3 on mine iirc
09:49 PM Tom_L: 2,3
09:50 PM Tom_L: is that with a SD or nvme?
09:54 PM Tom_L: how did you do the update to 2.9.6?
09:54 PM xxcoder: shoulders is little bit weird but looks good
09:55 PM Tom_L: did you have to change the repo to backports?
10:00 PM Tom_L: doesn't look like it yet
10:01 PM Tom_L: ok now up to 2.9.6
10:14 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Nvme
10:16 PM Tom_L: do you add idle=poll to cmdline.txt?
10:16 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I think so
10:17 PM Tom_L: this one didn't have it but i just added it
10:17 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> This is still the Jan 2025 firmware
10:17 PM Tom_L: i _think_ mine is June
10:18 PM Tom_L: yes
10:18 PM Tom_L: i couldn't figure out how to revert back to Jan
10:18 PM Tom_L: iirc the other pi is jan
10:18 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I did a quick search but gave up
10:19 PM Tom_L: you _can_ load those from a file but i haven't gotten any to try or even looked into it
10:21 PM Tom_L: https://github.com/raspberrypi/rpi-eeprom/releases
10:22 PM Tom_L: yours was Jan 22 2025?
11:01 PM Tom_L: may give that a try tomorrow
11:16 PM Tom_L: ok that was easy
11:16 PM Tom_L: got the Jan eeprom image back
