12:57 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> hello
03:43 AM Deejay: hi
04:16 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Good morning
04:18 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> My thought for the day is that UPS sucks balls.
04:18 AM Tom_L: morning
04:30 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> https://cserver1.multixmedia.org/diff-input.jpg
04:31 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> 4x encoder differential input (ABZ) + 5 IO for the 7c81
04:31 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Nice
04:32 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> thanks
04:32 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Dhl is delivering my 7c81 today
04:38 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> Yesterday, I got all 4 servos + VHD (via Modbus) up and running .
04:38 AM lcnc-relay: The servos are currently still in positioning mode (step/dir),
04:38 AM lcnc-relay: but I want to convert them to velocity mode with encoder feedback.
04:56 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Cool, I have 4 machines to do, first priority is the turret mill as the router that's coming will be functional with uccnc in the short term. The mill is out of commission until I convert it, old Anilam machine, it's got 100v DC servos which I plan to control with a bunch Argon servo drives I've had laying around for ages.
04:58 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Think I'll replace the resolvers though, I have a bunch of AS5047p kits. Unfortunately the Argon doesn't support using them in absolute mode
07:03 AM rdtsc-w: Mister Wallace: "buffered" because FPGA chips all run from (and have I/O to) the 1.8V, 2.5V, or 3.3V level max. Very few FPGA's (if any) can do 5V these days, so buffering is commonly used as a (fast, digital) way to adapt signal levels.
07:09 AM rdtsc-w: Mister Wallace, if you can use the half-step mode, the motors will likely be quieter, with twice the positioning resolution, but have slightly less torque.
08:46 AM lcnc-relay: <_billz_@> Has anyone used LinuCNC with Mil 1.5?
09:50 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> what is Mil 1.5 ?
10:15 AM rdtsc-w: https://www.lleal.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/MI-immersion-mill.pdf ? no idea
10:54 AM rdtsc-w: is this "anubis" not-a-bot thing popping up everywhere on the web? https://github.com/TecharoHQ/anubis?tab=readme-ov-file their anubis.techaro.lol causes one to be displayed
10:58 AM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc@> Is the forum slow because of crawlers?
11:00 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Besn discussing lately, could also be disgruntled scrpt kiddies
11:01 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Or just database to big for the system, or hardware insufficient
11:01 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> * too
11:04 AM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc@> I've seen other forums shut down as they can't handle the AI crawlers
11:05 AM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Yeah, I've heard about it, probably a good idea to continuously update forum software to prevent it these days
11:06 AM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc@> AnandTech mention how they would ping the same forum post an insane amount of times per hour
11:13 AM rdtsc-w: shame on crawler developers
11:24 AM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc@> as much as I hate them, add captchas?
11:27 AM fluffywolf: I hate captchas, and boycott sites with them unless I have no other option.
11:30 AM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc@> While I despise them... The forum is unusable for me for the last week
11:31 AM firephoto__ is now known as firephoto_
11:31 AM fluffywolf: I should make an AI captcha solver that's better than humans, so captchas become obsolete...
11:32 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> taste and smell captchas
11:32 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> stay one step ahead of AI
11:35 AM xxcoder: that would think im an bot
11:36 AM rdtsc-w: bottom line is, somebody has to be maintaining the forum, and nobody has access to
11:39 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> go ahead and track down the real admin, i dare yah
11:39 AM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc@> I know its summer but it seems development has been pretty slow lately.
11:40 AM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc@> Is it not jeffepler or andypugh?
11:40 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> jepler left the project
11:43 AM fluffywolf: libera needs to write a module to do bridging in a way other than a client bot, that shows actual nicks from the server...
11:43 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> the LCNC COC does not state what to do in the case of there being no forum admin
11:43 AM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc@> Trying to remember who all is devs. rene-dev, cmorley, andypugh ...? there was a guy doing some insane work on tool changing...
11:45 AM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc@> PCW I guess makes a fair amount of coin off this project indirectly.
11:45 AM fluffywolf: pcw deserves it; the boards seem excellent, as his support...
11:45 AM fluffywolf: and
11:46 AM rdtsc-w: I'd bet it's more piece-meal in reality... a few boards here and there
11:46 AM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc@> never had an issue with mesa that wasn't my fault
11:46 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> will the real LCNC forum admin please stand up
11:46 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I don't know - I think it is still pretty busy.. https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/activity
11:47 AM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc@> I fully agree
11:47 AM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc@> skunkworks8841@: Andy, Chris and the doc folks
11:48 AM fluffywolf: grr... I can no longer get either rear calipers nor a rear caliper seal kit for my car, at least not from rockauto.
11:48 AM * fluffywolf goes back to being on-topic
11:50 AM * rdtsc-w got 4x rotors from RA... warped almost immediately
11:51 AM fluffywolf: LOL! philips is honest... in their headlight comparrison chart, they give their own LED lights zero stars in the "low glare for oncoming drivers" category.
11:51 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> I got lucky with close out rotors on RA
11:53 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> same for brake pads and wipers
11:54 AM fluffywolf: no front calipers either, but at least they still have reseal kits. one of mine is leaking slightly from the park brake cable shaft. figured I'd get rear seals at the same time, but nope.
12:04 PM * fluffywolf places an order for about 60 parts, with an average price of about $3. lol
12:05 PM fluffywolf: seals, seals, seals... got complete transmission seals, and wheel seals and bearings...
12:07 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Tbh I think LCNC could have a tenfold or more users if there were more step hy step guides on YouTube, not sure if you devs would welcome it all that much, but on the flip side, would also attract talented devs
12:09 PM fluffywolf: I think a UI modernization and more no-manual-configuration-required modules would really help popularity too... people use, say, mach3, because it's so much easier to set up and perform common taks with.
12:10 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Well, being open source there's tons of options, just takes some research to find what suits you
12:11 PM fluffywolf: new users don't want research and editing hal files. heh.
12:12 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Yeah, would be good to have someone willing to do the user/adoption friendliness/packaging
12:12 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Like latest version with x UI
12:12 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Ton of work though
12:13 PM fluffywolf: also, as I said, common tasks... for example, I want to get a touch probe, and have it automatically measure stock rotation. Tom_L makes it look easy, but it doesn't look easy for those of us who aren't Tom_L... lol
12:15 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Yeah, I think that happens with anything technical, if you know how to do it, it feels easy, being the bridge who understands both sides isn't trivial
12:18 PM fluffywolf: it seems to take configuration at a deeper level than I am familiar with, while mach3 has a "wizard" that automagically does it.
12:19 PM fluffywolf: I think this is the main thing that chases people away from linuxcnc... steep learning curve for fairly simple operations.
12:19 PM fluffywolf: and if linuxcnc also automagically did common things, then there would be a lot less need for youtube step by step guides.
12:21 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> I think RotarySMP has been great at being an ambassador, just jeed more real world step by step stuff, even if it isn't exactly what the user in question is doing, just the procedure type of thing
12:23 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Automagic end result needs a lot of not automagic wotk to make it automagic 😅
12:23 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Mach3 employees also get paid presumably
12:31 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> for basic setups there stepconf and pncconf - or jt's configurator..
12:33 PM fluffywolf: ok... and how do you set up a touch probe to measure stock position and rotation? :)
12:33 PM fluffywolf: (and, of course, use that position and rotation for subsequent operations)
12:44 PM rdtsc-w: there are a few "build a cnc" series on YT, but none detail every aspect of LCNC... and there is a lot to it (probably why nobody goes into the nitty-gritty details.)
12:47 PM JT-Cave: fluffywolf, you copy Tom_L probe config from Flex GUI
02:45 PM lcnc-relay: <_billz_@> * Milo
02:45 PM lcnc-relay: <_billz_@> meisterdippel@: Type, Milo v1.5 is a 3-axis mill
02:46 PM lcnc-relay: <_billz_@> +https://github.com/MillenniumMachines/Milo-v1.5
04:26 PM _unreal_: is anyone using the orangepie 5 for lcnc?
04:26 PM _unreal_: and if so which version and memory volume
04:48 PM Tom_L: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/18-computer/48079-can-the-opi5-be-configured-to-run-lcnc
04:49 PM Tom_L: feel like patching the kernel?
05:02 PM _unreal_: Tom_L, pcw-at-work stated a while ago there is already a build for the OPI5
05:02 PM _unreal_: done and done
05:03 PM lcnc-relay: <Mister Wallace> https://jauriarts.org/_heisenbridge/media/matrix.org/OSuuRBbISrIIQWQITqajthKw/nE_26W9Fa7U/IMG_0498.jpeg
05:03 PM lcnc-relay: Finally installing on real hardware, any ideas why it can’t mount? Boots the USB fine… made a bootable with Rufus.
05:15 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:15 PM _unreal_: I'm asking is there anyone actively using an OPi5
05:17 PM JT-Shop: the parking brake looks like a mess
05:20 PM JT-Shop: crap the press brake dies are on the 50 ton press so I have to get them off
05:20 PM JT-Shop: kind of a pia
05:20 PM JT-Shop: they are too heavy to lift
05:52 PM _unreal_: just drilled some holes in my dads boat
05:52 PM _unreal_: let the water out
05:53 PM _unreal_: 3 days and you got a misquote farm
05:55 PM JT-Shop: fedsex just delivered my trailing arm bushings and strut rod bushings
05:57 PM xxcoder: is they better than fedex?
06:00 PM JT-Shop: if you absolutely have to have it over night yup
06:00 PM Tom_L: brown & purple are working on a merger.... fedup
06:01 PM JT-Shop: interesting
06:01 PM Tom_L: not for real
06:01 PM JT-Shop: LOL
06:01 PM JT-Shop: ups from ca to me last package cost $67
06:02 PM JT-Shop: insane
06:02 PM Tom_L: it's getting crazy
06:02 PM Tom_L: i had one from Il that was $100
06:02 PM Tom_L: oversize
06:02 PM JT-Shop: this was not a big box but a bit heavy
06:03 PM JT-Shop: between ups and paypal I prob make $2 per board I sell LOL
06:04 PM Tom_L: i think i lost on that one
06:07 PM JT-Shop: that sucks
06:08 PM Tom_L: too close to break even for me
06:10 PM JT-Shop: looks like the trailing arms will need a complete rebuild including bearings for the axle
06:13 PM JT-Shop: the parking brake is in a bit of a state
06:14 PM JT-Shop: to get to that I need to take the axle out and after that you have to put new bearings in and set them in a fixture
06:14 PM Tom_L: sounds like fun
06:15 PM JT-Shop: yeah it won't be bad once I get apart
06:16 PM Tom_L: nicer having the lift
06:16 PM JT-Shop: omg, it's a life saver
06:16 PM JT-Shop: and a huge time saver and I only have so much time left
06:17 PM Tom_L: don't we all
06:17 PM JT-Shop: yup
06:17 PM Tom_L: i've been feeling it more lately
06:17 PM JT-Shop: you get over the bug
06:17 PM Tom_L: i feel alot better today
06:18 PM Tom_L: could have been the meds too, hard to say
06:18 PM Tom_L: she had a root canal & crown yesterday
06:19 PM JT-Shop: I've had a lot of them in the past
06:19 PM Tom_L: same here
06:20 PM JT-Shop: dunno if I have any roots left in the molars
06:20 PM Tom_L: no crowns until lately
06:30 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> had to replace the ignition switch on the 42'
06:30 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I guess I should spend more than 10 dollars
06:31 PM JT-Shop: cheap is cheap...
06:32 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol - I replaced it with the same exact one (I bought 2)
06:32 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> so time will tell
06:32 PM rdtsc: https://wallpapercave.com/wp/wp9610789.jpg :)
06:33 PM JT-Shop: I went through 3 starter switches on the hoe and finally got one from napa that is much better quality
06:58 PM rdtsc: FreeCAD at 1.0.2 is still quite an obtuse tool... imported a .dxf, imports only as primitives; use a shapebinder to make one object, but then it can't be translated unless certain properties of the shapebinder are set... sheesh
07:03 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I made some parts starting with dxf.. I don't remember it being too painful
07:11 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> This is how I did it
07:12 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://youtu.be/Aqz6TFfOjiQ?si=n59cPBd16FN2sDoM
07:13 PM _unreal_: I'm trashing a bunch of stuff tonight. just a question, does anyone have a need IN THE USA for a pc atx psu that works off of 12v DC in?
07:14 PM _unreal_: Its a standard ATX psu but takes 12v instead of 110Vac
08:15 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> this was done drawing the spline profile in acad..
08:15 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://hackaday.io/project/187394-yet-another-harmonic-drive
08:15 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> then bringing in the dxf to freecad to create a sokid
08:15 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> solid
09:10 PM lfluffywof is now known as fluffywolf
11:25 PM fluffywolf: brand opinions on t-handle allen keys? The Klein ones look nice, https://www.amazon.com/Journeyman-T-Handle-Klein-Tools-JTH68M/dp/B004MI5M8Q/ , gearwrench is almost half the price, https://www.amazon.com/GEARWRENCH-Piece-Metric-Ball-T-Handle/dp/B098V1HF47/ , bondhus I usually like, but they don't offer any that keep the high-leverage end of the L...
11:26 PM fluffywolf: can't find any testing or not-obviously-shilling comparrisons. project farm only tested normal little L ones, and didn't test either gearwrench or klein...
11:27 PM fluffywolf: there's also the sliding handle kind, like https://www.amazon.com/AKM-TOOL-Magnetized-Demagnetized-Application/dp/B0DJNCG3P8/ , but that seems... silly? I want to be able to press down on them. lol
11:43 PM fluffywolf: oh well. wolfy bedtime.
