12:21 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> moin
02:06 AM Gothia1 is now known as Gothia
04:24 AM Tom_L: morning
05:01 AM Deejay: hi
05:45 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> https://www.multixmedia.org/rio-flow.png 🙂
06:43 AM Tom_L: still drawing pictures ehh :)
06:49 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> interactive images 🙂
06:51 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> The easiest way to configure an FPGA controller
07:19 AM rdtsc-w: HLP - a high-level-picture :)
07:31 AM rdtsc-w: FreeCAD is up to 1.0.2; some patches are rolling in https://blog.freecad.org/2025/08/06/freecad-1-0-2-released
08:11 AM rdtsc-w: roycroft: a few years ago, got a (R600, Butane) fridge for the basement. Big warning sticker said it must stand for so many hours before powering on. Butane as a refrigerant was a little unnerving, but it works well
08:12 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I need to get back to playing with freecads cam..
08:30 AM JT-Cave: another round of heat coming Saturday here
09:03 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> is the new fridge working?
11:27 AM JT-Cave: yes, very well... had to remove the cabinet above it due to vertical clearance being -0.250"
11:30 AM roycroft: a belt sander can take care of that :)
11:30 AM JT-Cave: I think the track saw will be a better choice
11:31 AM roycroft: if you used a chain saw you would not have had to remove the cabinet
11:36 AM JT-Cave: they do that only in Ripley county
12:00 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> skunkworks8841@ how is the cam in freecad currently?
12:01 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> I thought that someone was working on its development full time
12:06 PM rdtsc-w: JT, dumb question, but were the levelling feed screwed all the way in?
12:06 PM rdtsc-w: *feet
12:06 PM xxcoder: ich was one of people working on cam preview when he died. but yeah should have someone working on cam so far I know, capt
12:07 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> xxcoder@ the cam developer was in Missouri
12:08 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> He was funded by some open source program
12:08 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> But I can remember his name or nick
12:08 PM xxcoder: ok
12:09 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> Can't remember
12:09 PM Tom_L: capn, any luck finding work?
12:10 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> Just started. I'm overqualified so I'm working on some some dumbed down resumes.
12:11 PM roycroft: i just found some solid oak flooring for $1/ft^2
12:11 PM roycroft: like 400 ft^2 of it
12:11 PM roycroft: so maybe half my house will no longer have orange carpeting soon
12:12 PM rdtsc-w: all you need is another project heheheh
12:12 PM roycroft: it's not the stuff that i want, but it's 1/5 the price of the stuff that i want, and it might be ok for the private areas
12:12 PM roycroft: getting rid of the orange carpet has been on my list since the day i bought the place
12:12 PM rdtsc-w: hmm, garage roof or flooring...
12:12 PM roycroft: i would not install it right away
12:12 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> HVAC repair pays more than many engineering jobs.
12:13 PM roycroft: it needs to acclimate to the climate in my house before installation anyway
12:13 PM roycroft: it can "acclimate" for a few months if necessary
12:13 PM roycroft: but at that price point i'm ready to go get it
12:13 PM rdtsc-w: good winter project in any case
12:14 PM roycroft: i was even thinking i might have to get crap like pergo or some of that other vinyl fake woodgrain stuff, because the real thing is too expensive
12:15 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> I see that ugly vinyl plank flooring everywhere
12:15 PM roycroft: i hate it
12:15 PM roycroft: this stuff is flat grain red oak
12:15 PM roycroft: red oak being one of my least favorite hardwoods
12:15 PM roycroft: but for my bedroom and office i can probably live with it
12:15 PM roycroft: red oak is better than orange carpet :)
12:16 PM roycroft: and this house was built in the '80s
12:16 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> So we stopped putting PVC on the outside of homes due to health hazards to now put in inside
12:16 PM roycroft: i'm already ripping out all the red oak i can, so adding a little bit for the flooring in the private areas would be an homage to the era it was built
12:16 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> Remember all that PVC siding from the 70-80s
12:17 PM roycroft: yes
12:17 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> Now it's inside
12:17 PM roycroft: i'm hoping to score some cvg fir flooring for the public areas - living room and dining room
12:17 PM roycroft: that stuff is getting really hard to find, and is really expensive
12:21 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> What is that fake stone flooring called? They inkjet stone patterns onto ceramic before firing so it looks like stone to idiots.
12:22 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> The profit margins are enormous
12:22 PM roycroft: if i buy this flooring i could do the bathrooms in it too, which presents maintenance issues, but nothing bad - i just have to install it correctly, keep an eye on it, and plan on refinishing it ever 2-5 years
12:23 PM roycroft: the master bath has orange carpeting currently
12:23 PM roycroft: that stuff REALLY needs to go
12:25 PM xxcoder: rug in restroom or even just bath room yeah bad lol
12:29 PM roycroft: it's gross
12:29 PM roycroft: and as long as i use a rubber-backed mat on the floor by the shower the wood floor will be fine
12:30 PM roycroft: i already use a shower rug and hang it up over the shower door when i'm done with my shower in the morning, so all i have to do is replace the cotton rug with a rubber-backed one and i'll be fine
12:30 PM roycroft: no new habit to learn, even
12:31 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
12:46 PM roycroft: when i bought the place the second bathroom had the floor ripped up, and a piece of ugly vinyl flooring was there for me to install
12:46 PM rdtsc-w: get some Rit fabric dye, dye the carpet red? :)
12:46 PM roycroft: i only use that bathroom for storage and for the cats' litter box, so i never got around to installing the vinyl
12:46 PM roycroft: it's ready for hardwood right now
12:47 PM xxcoder: rdtsc color isnt the issue
12:47 PM rdtsc-w: well orange kinda is an issue :)
01:01 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> I'd say the solution is to to stop fucking about and get some tiles
01:03 PM roycroft: i do not have radiant floor heat
01:03 PM roycroft: a tile floor is much colder in the winter than a wood floor
01:03 PM roycroft: and proper floor tiles are expensive
01:04 PM roycroft: many people have wood bathroom floors, and i get very little water on the floor
01:04 PM roycroft: the humidity swings are more an issue than standing water, and if i acclimate the flooring in the bathroom for a couple weeks before installing it it hsould be fine
01:05 PM roycroft: i also live alone, so it's not like the bathroom is constantly in use, with 3-4 showers/day
01:05 PM xxcoder: wood can be effectively protected too
01:05 PM roycroft: yes
01:05 PM xxcoder: lye? dunno what it uses lol
01:06 PM roycroft: i'm getting this flooring for 75 cents/foot^2
01:06 PM roycroft: vs. $5/foot^2 retail
01:06 PM roycroft: it's superior to orange carpet
01:06 PM roycroft: and if it lasts five years and fails then, it's not much invested ,and i'll have had five years of superior flooring
01:06 PM roycroft: perhaps then i'd consider ceramic tile
01:07 PM roycroft: but i suspect the wood flooring will last the rest of my life, and i don't care beyond that
01:08 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> As long as it works for you, after having a leak while I was away, I put down sealed insulation boards with waterproof tile adhesive and Scandinavian style raised threshold, peace of mind.
01:08 PM xxcoder: roy I would bet in 5 years, at best, you would need to re-coat the wood top so it looks good and waterproof
01:09 PM roycroft: yes
01:09 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> captainhindsight_.@ I have used it a couple times and it worked well - but I have not really used this type of cam before (from a solid model)
01:09 PM roycroft: i anticipate needing to refinish in a bathroom every 2-5 years
01:10 PM roycroft: this stuff is pre-finished with polyurethane
01:10 PM roycroft: not my idea of a great finish, but it works
01:12 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I don't understand all the hate for red oak.. lol
01:14 PM roycroft: it's a very unattractive wood to begin with
01:14 PM roycroft: and it was so overused in a very tacky way in the '80s that it's a total turnoff
01:14 PM roycroft: white oak is much more attractive
01:14 PM roycroft: so it's not oak per se
01:14 PM roycroft: and perhaps even more pertinent
01:15 PM roycroft: ash is similar in grain pattern to red oak, but without that hideous orange color
01:15 PM roycroft: ash looks much more similar to red oak in grain pattern than white oak to red oak
01:15 PM roycroft: and ash is one of my favorite woods
01:15 PM xxcoder: reminds me of that picture I saw that ha entire interior covered in red oak. nothing not windows or floor was red oak
01:16 PM roycroft: but red oak is much more tolerable for flooring than for cabinetry or millwork
01:16 PM xxcoder: by windows I mean only glass. framing was red oak
01:16 PM roycroft: this is all in my view, of course
01:16 PM roycroft: different folks have different tastes, and i respect that
01:17 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> How dare you mock the twin peaks aesthetic. Dunno how things are in your part of the world, but tiles search hy nearest first on ebay would be a hell of a lot cheaper than oak floor boards
01:18 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Where I am I hasten to add
01:25 PM roycroft: i've never seen ceramic floor tiles for $0.75/ft^2, not even remnants
01:28 PM memleak: oh hey andypugh
01:28 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> Must be a pond issue
01:28 PM andypugh: Hai Memleak
01:29 PM andypugh: I think I saw you post something about RTAI to the forum?
01:29 PM memleak: hey just so everyone knows, the 5.4.290 RTAI debs are broken. the sim and everything works but when working with parallel ports and actusl hardware, the system crashes
01:29 PM memleak: yes i did. that^ lol
01:30 PM andypugh: I am not having much time for LinuxCNC at the moment, but have a rare weekend at home this weekend, so might get something done.
01:30 PM memleak: i need to downgrade the kernel and find the last working 5.4 kernel and then freeze the repo after i tweak kconfig a little bit more
01:31 PM memleak: 5.4.279 works fine
01:32 PM memleak: so i need to bissect and try other kernels but i can't find out until later because i'm in ohio right now and a laptop without any way to test real hardware
01:34 PM memleak: in the process i'll be updating the gentoo image too, but right now the best way to run linuxcnc on gentoo is with a rip environment
01:35 PM memleak: unless you want to use flexgui or gmoccapy, as axis is broken when installed globally
01:35 PM memleak: i think gmoccapy still works but i haven't tested it in awhile
01:35 PM memleak: flexgui definitely works
01:35 PM JT-Shop: :)
01:36 PM memleak: i haven't tested qtpyvcp in awhile either but turboss and other people are working on a qt6 port
01:36 PM memleak: qt5 is dying or is dead in gentoo
01:38 PM memleak: i'm actually on rocky linux at the moment but thinking about switcing to fedora to get more toys.
01:38 PM memleak: oracle linux has hardly anything, not even vlc
01:39 PM memleak: i'm trying to get some linux work so i threw rocky on to get something close to RHEL
01:51 PM Tom_L: hmm i've been using the newer one but just on a test pc
01:54 PM roycroft: the excessive heat warning has been extended until this evening
01:55 PM xxcoder: its very hot here
01:55 PM xxcoder: been running on ac since 11 am
01:55 PM roycroft: and i just committed to picking up that flooring after work today
01:55 PM roycroft: i should have checked the forecast first
01:55 PM roycroft: oh well, i'll survive
01:56 PM xxcoder: hopefully wood dont get on fire lol
01:56 PM xxcoder: yeah
02:00 PM rdtsc-w: "kiln-dried"
02:04 PM roycroft: i'm more worried about me
02:05 PM roycroft: the ac works fine in my pickup, but the vaccum pump does not work
02:05 PM xxcoder: yeah I'd avoid getting kiln-dried too
02:05 PM roycroft: and in a ford, vacuum is required for the heater/blower system
02:05 PM roycroft: if it's not working then all the air goes through the defrost vents
02:05 PM roycroft: so my windshield stays nice and cool, but the cab does not
02:05 PM * roycroft has a new pump on order, but it's not here yet
02:14 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
02:16 PM xxcoder: lol I'm used to my car. it gets very hot inside (enough to bake cookies) in sunny days.
02:16 PM xxcoder: so I always open all 4 doors, wait a min or two
02:16 PM xxcoder: then close 3 doors, get in, close driver door, then get windows down for a little bit till it gets to outside temps, then close windows and use ac
02:17 PM xxcoder: I remember one time I had to go right away, it being an emergacy. I was slowly getting cooked, even with windows down
02:17 PM xxcoder: it took few minutes for it to cool
02:23 PM roycroft: my voltage converter just arrived, which i ordered in mid-july
02:24 PM lcnc-relay: <lucid.nonsense@> 33c here today, but uk homes don't have ac, 40 degrees in Portugal today where I'm going this weekend, but everywhere has ac, so it'll be a relief
02:29 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> one of the many odd nesses of diesels.. doesn't make its own vaccum..
02:31 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> arn't your brakes a little stiff then?
02:49 PM roycroft: hydraulic
02:49 PM roycroft: the power steering pump assists both the steering and the brakes
02:51 PM roycroft: the vacuum pump in my pickup is for the hvac system and automatic hub locks
02:52 PM roycroft: and the hub locks are already manual, so i'll just plug that port on the new pump when it arrives
02:58 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> huh - what year?
02:58 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> wonder is that is how dads is too.. His is a 2006 I think
03:03 PM roycroft: 2001
03:03 PM roycroft: and if it's an f350 or any ford super-duty that should be how it works
03:04 PM roycroft: the previous owner of my vehicle converted the hubs to manual
03:04 PM roycroft: probably because the vacuum seal failed on one of them
03:05 PM xxcoder: oh yes did you clean up that messy wiring?
03:05 PM roycroft: it's cheaper to just put in manual locks than to replace the vacuum ones
03:05 PM roycroft: no, i have not done that yet
03:05 PM roycroft: if you're talking about the wiring in the back
03:05 PM xxcoder: yeah. ok
03:05 PM roycroft: my solution for now is to not drive it at night
03:06 PM roycroft: the tail lights/indicators/brake lights all work
03:06 PM roycroft: but the license plate illuminator does not
03:11 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yah this is a superduty. I guess I never looked at it
03:12 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> f350
03:16 PM roycroft: the vacuum pump is on the passengerside wall of the engine compartment, towards the back
03:36 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I didn't know the brakes were hydraulicly boosted.
03:36 PM roycroft: it's kind of the option with a diesel engine
03:37 PM roycroft: some have electric motor boosters, but hydraulic is by far the most common
03:39 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> sure - dads 83 still used a engine run vacuum pump for both brakes and other stuff
03:41 PM roycroft: a diesel with engine vacuum?
03:41 PM roycroft: or a mechanical vacuum pump driven by the engine?
03:41 PM roycroft: which i would prefer, btw
03:41 PM roycroft: that would be more reliable than an electric vacuum pump
04:28 PM mozmck: Did DBSPI change to BSPID in recent hostmot2? I need to use DBSPI with CS pins controlled by the FPGA and am a bit confused...
04:37 PM pcw_work: BSPI and DBSPI were merged at some point maybe 2 years ago, which version is compiled depends on the pin names
04:39 PM pcw_work: (Pin names in the PINXXXX.vhd file)
04:39 PM pcw_work: gatedcs => not PinAndChanExists(ThePinDesc,BSPITag,BSPIFramePin,i))
04:40 PM pcw_work: so if no frame pin exists, the decoded version is built
04:41 PM mozmck: Hmm, so what is the frame pin?
04:41 PM mozmck: I should just use BSPITag then when making my PIN file?
04:42 PM pcw_work: If an external decoder is used, frame is the CS enable
04:42 PM pcw_work: yes just use BSPITag
04:42 PM mozmck: No external decoder
04:43 PM pcw_work: yeah they were merged because they were identical except for the I/O pins
04:44 PM mozmck: I see. So if CS0 is defined and a frame pin is NOT defined then it will be dbspi?
04:45 PM pcw_work: Simpler, if there is no frame pin, the decoded version is built.
04:46 PM mozmck: I see. And if there is no CS pins defined I guess it just does not use CS.
04:47 PM mozmck: What is the BSPIDTag and etc in homstmot2? That is partly what was confusing me.
04:47 PM pcw_work: BSPID is a new variant (named to generate maximum confusion) that has an autosend buffer thats triggered by the DPLL, so read data can be pre-fetched
04:48 PM * JT-Shop wished he understood Greek
04:48 PM pcw_work: If you have no CS pins and no frame pins you have a legal but non-functional config
04:48 PM mozmck: Ah - don't want that.
04:51 PM pcw_work: Will help on things like SPI interfaced step driver chips (so the normal LinuxCNC read/process/write works without ever polling or getting delayed by a full servo thread cycle)
04:52 PM pcw_work: (BSPID I mean)
04:53 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:53 PM mozmck: Interesting - like the trinamic chips?
04:53 PM pcw_work: Or similar, like PS01
04:55 PM pcw_work: or A-D chips if you don't want to always be one cycle late
04:55 PM mozmck: Haven't seen that one, is that powerSTEP01 ?
04:55 PM pcw_work: Yes
04:57 PM mozmck: So the DPLL can cause it to request a read before each linuxcnc cycle.
04:57 PM pcw_work: Yes, basically the same way things like absolute encoders work in HostMot2.
04:59 PM pcw_work: So you set the DPLL timer used for that interface to say -200 usec so all the SPI transactions are done and data in the RX FIFO at read time
05:00 PM mozmck: Yeah, that sounds great for that kind of thing. We are using some trinamic drivers now but just with the step/dir interface.
05:01 PM mozmck: Thanks for the help. Maybe I can stay on this project long enough this time to actually get something working.
05:01 PM pcw_work: welcome, good luck on your project.
05:14 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:26 PM xxcoder: oh boy
05:26 PM xxcoder: https://www.neowin.net/news/mozilla-under-fire-for-firefox-ai-bloat-that-blows-up-cpu-and-drains-battery/
07:22 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> Brad Collette is the Freecad CAM dev
07:22 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> he just posted earlier today on the LCNC dev mail list
07:25 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> https://paste.debian.net/1391251/
07:28 PM Tom_L: haven't i seen sliptonic here once in a while?
07:28 PM Tom_L: seems familiar but not a regular
07:30 PM Tom_L: yeah he's been here a few times
07:32 PM Tom_L: first mention Apr 21
07:44 PM roycroft: yes, sliptonic is a channel occasionalist
07:44 PM * roycroft is back with more than half a ton of solid oak flooring
07:45 PM xxcoder: hopefully you started with half a ton too ;)
07:45 PM xxcoder: ac managed to run so far without blowing breaker
07:45 PM roycroft: i arrived with as much as i originally loaded
07:45 PM xxcoder: I set it to 80f, not confortable, but less often runs is better
07:46 PM xxcoder: roy ya was kidding about heat strunking wood on way lol
07:46 PM roycroft: it was 38 when i left, but it's down to a mere 35 now
07:46 PM roycroft: the only think that saved me from melting on the way down was that 2/3 of the drive is in the forest, and shaded
07:46 PM xxcoder: nice
07:46 PM xxcoder: probably saved fuel on power usage too
07:46 PM roycroft: now i have to decided what to do with the flooring
07:47 PM roycroft: there is almost enough to do the living room and dining room
07:47 PM roycroft: if the same product is still for sale i might be able to get a couple more boxes and do that part
07:48 PM roycroft: i'd hate to do that though - the stuff sells for $100/box, and i paid $15/box for what i got today
07:48 PM xxcoder: do a sample layput in those rooms?
07:48 PM Tom_L: the total purchase would still be a bargain
07:48 PM xxcoder: not whole area but enough to visualize
07:48 PM roycroft: even though it would still average out to be really cheap, i don't want to pay almost 7 times as much for the remainder
07:48 PM roycroft: yeah, tom_l
07:48 PM roycroft: it really would be
07:49 PM roycroft: and if i end up buying more to do those rooms, i'll have to think about it that way
07:49 PM roycroft: i drove home today with $1900 worth of flooring and i paid $300
07:49 PM roycroft: and it's all brand new in the boxes
07:49 PM roycroft: even if i have to pay $200 or $300 more for the rest, i'll still have saved $1600
07:50 PM roycroft: the guy i bought it from had purchased his house from his father, who moved to a retirement home on the coast
07:51 PM roycroft: the father had built an addition before he sold it, with a big den/rec room, and had purchased this flooring for it before he sold it to his son
07:51 PM roycroft: the son was going to live there for a long time, but had the same stories about unhoused people as i had about them in eugene
07:51 PM roycroft: and he's buying a place in central oregon that is much more rural
07:52 PM roycroft: he decided to have cheap carpeting installed in the rec room, as materials plus installation were much less expensive than installation of the hardwood flooring, and he just wants the house ready to sell as quickly as possible and with as little investment as possible
07:53 PM roycroft: so he sold the flooring for what he figured his tax writeoff would be if he donated it
07:53 PM roycroft: this way he doesn't have to haul it to habitat for humanity
07:53 PM roycroft: and they did not want to pick it up
07:53 PM roycroft: but i did :)
07:53 PM xxcoder: nice
07:58 PM roycroft: i might install the voltage reducer tonight, but i'm pretty worn out from the drive and loading that flooring
07:59 PM roycroft: i might just eat dinner and chill
07:59 PM roycroft: may be do some cad work, but nothing much more than that
07:59 PM xxcoder: yeah todays best to rest well. being hot is tiring.
08:00 PM roycroft: it really takes a lot out of me
08:00 PM roycroft: it always has, but even moreso as i get older
08:16 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/TLAnoJ3yvwVwu5Kw9
08:17 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> vevor sent the right replacment!
08:31 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
08:31 PM xxcoder: nice
08:36 PM xxcoder: whew outside is still sigificantly hotter
08:36 PM xxcoder: 82f inside
08:38 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> 77 here
08:38 PM xxcoder: outside is over 90f. fun!
08:39 PM xxcoder: but already past peak, ac is already having easier time keeping house cool
08:43 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> anyone recognize this mount? https://photos.app.goo.gl/cuFCkN7sr64EhDUs7
08:46 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/kRjhZr1rRoYxAJGg9
08:49 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> wonder what is in that gearbox.. lol
08:49 PM Tom_L: you sure come up with some one of a kinds
08:51 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> well - it has sinumeric controls
08:51 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> general numeric?
08:52 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> this was the 4th axis on the acroloc machine that is probably getting scrapped
08:52 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> siemens
08:57 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol - dad paid 2k for it
09:02 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> (the whole cnc machine)
09:05 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> well - that is pretty close to the machine..
09:05 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGqhuty6SJ4
09:07 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol from practical machinist..
09:07 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> As far as I can remember the spindle should not run when retracted, something is amiss. Yes, those tool holder are probably the dumbest thing around, they don't have very good holding power so don't expect heavy cuts in anything but plastic. We had a machine like it at work but a Yasnac MX1, it also had a 4th axis, the 4th axis by the way is pretty nice.
09:08 PM lcnc-relay: We ran the crap out of our Acroloc and as
09:08 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> the tooling is really weird..
09:08 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> If I kept it - I would probably put a different spindle on it.
09:14 PM memleak: Tom_L, yes it works in all tests but once you start talking to a parallel port card, the system explodes :)
09:15 PM memleak: i'll fix it when i have a chance
09:30 PM Tom_L: it's no big deal. i just left it on my test pc
09:31 PM Tom_L: oh.. but i have used my parport 7i90 on it for testing
10:07 PM memleak: AND IT DIDN'T CRASH?
10:08 PM memleak: it crashed on 5 different systems here and someone elses on the forums
10:08 PM lfluffywof: apparently 2.6.13 is on wheezy, and I need to figure out new sources.list so I can install stuff. meh, yak shaving!
10:09 PM memleak: if you were able to control real hardware on the 5.4.290 kernel then i don't know how that's possible
10:21 PM lfluffywof: yay, got ntpdate installed, so my click isn't stupid.
10:22 PM lfluffywof: clock
10:26 PM lfluffywof: I guess it's not bad, that it only lost 45 minutes in half a decade or more.
10:31 PM * lfluffywof is watching linuxcnc run through the program, blisfully unaware that the mill is nowhere to be seen, because zero inputs on the parport. lol
10:38 PM lfluffywof: is 100mm/min sane for a 1/8 3-flute endmill in aluminum at 2400rpm?
10:51 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> yeah i guess so
10:52 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> if it doesnt break
11:03 PM lfluffywof: "adjust the feed rate up until it breaks, then back off a bit" is expensive. :P
11:15 PM xxcoder: https://youtu.be/kUYzuAJeg3M wow amazing gyro self balancing monorail
