04:26 AM Tom_L: morning
05:29 AM Deejay: moin
12:25 PM roycroft: boss, one minute: "we're paying too much for our hosting services. we need to cut back on the resources we're paying for"
12:26 PM roycroft: boss, about 2 minutes later: "our development machine is way too slow, we need to beef it up"
12:27 PM roycroft: boss again, about 5 minutes later: "i'm trying to install some really hoggish code, and am running into php issues with memory, file size limits, and max variables in the tables. increase all of that so that my code will run"
12:27 PM * roycroft is trying to reconcile those three directives
12:29 PM roycroft: so far my translation is "one of our machines is running really slow, so we need to replace it with a less capable one and intentionally drive the load on it way up"
01:22 PM Rab: roycroft, not sure if this is a fit for your application, but these are the best lumen-per-dollar I've found, incredibly bright, and no failures so far: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Utilitech-3-ft-Light-LED-Linear-Shop-Light/5000858983
01:24 PM Rab: My friends and I have also used several dozen of these integrated tubes over the years, no failures to date. Unfortunately my preferred variant is sold out at the moment. https://www.ledmyplace.com/products/t8-8ft-led-tube-60w-integrated-5000k-frosted
01:25 PM Rab: The 4000K Lowe's light is easier on the eyes. No CRI rating in either case, which is maybe important in a wood shop.
01:27 PM Rab: I used to try to convert fixtures to LED tubes, but the integrated lights are so lightweight and easy to hang, you can just sling them up under the old fixtures and forget about it.
01:34 PM JT-Shop: I'm slowly replacing all the lights in the machine shop with 120v led tubes, the big shop have all been replaced.
01:35 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> dad has a box of similar ones. (hook end to end)
02:15 PM rdtsc-w: I put three 4'x2' LED panels in the basement, then rewired the outlets for 0-10v dimming, not cheap but very nice: https://www.superbrightleds.com/industrial-led-lighting
02:16 PM Rab: I almost went that way for my workshop, just to cut down on shadows.
02:17 PM rdtsc-w: if you can get a high color-rendering-index, light looks very good
03:52 PM xxcoder: great. flipping great
03:52 PM xxcoder: my 20a cable went bad
03:52 PM xxcoder: blew fuse instantly
03:53 PM xxcoder: *breaker
05:58 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> ? It shorted out? That is an odd failure mode
05:59 PM xxcoder: yep thats what I told seller
05:59 PM xxcoder: sadly no refund as it was barely past month
06:05 PM JT-Shop: well that sucks
06:17 PM xxcoder: yeah. $43 gone
06:22 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> figure out where the short is - then put new ends on?
06:22 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> (you would think it would be rather crispy at that spot)
06:22 PM xxcoder: I suppose but dont feel like doing it at this time. its quite thick cable and needs 20amp ends
06:31 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Dooooo it!!
06:40 PM Tom_L: ace hardware can fix you right up
07:00 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I have come to the point in my life that I just say F-it - and try to fix it myself
07:11 PM roycroft: ace will fix you up, but you need hans and franz to pump you up
07:12 PM Tom_L: it seems alot easier if you do just fix it yourself i find
07:13 PM roycroft: it presents its own set of problems, but they are problems one can generally control oneself
07:14 PM Tom_L: have you given up on ladder yet?
07:15 PM roycroft: no
07:15 PM roycroft: but i've also not worked on it for a while
07:15 PM Tom_L: are you making progress with it?
07:15 PM roycroft: last night i redid the framing drawings for my new roof
07:15 PM roycroft: i got the main frame all done, including joinery
07:15 PM roycroft: i'll work on rafters tonight
07:16 PM roycroft: i really really need to get started on that project before the rainy season arrives
07:16 PM roycroft: i had to go to a customer site today, and when i was done i checked out some ppe and scaffolding
07:16 PM roycroft: the roof cannot wait until next year
07:17 PM roycroft: fruit fly season seems to be abating already
07:18 PM roycroft: perhaps it's too hot and dry for them this year
07:21 PM xxcoder: bahh im still dealing with them, though I managed to catch most of em with sticky pads
07:21 PM xxcoder: its attracting properies dont work, so I just wave it around near bug
07:21 PM roycroft: it's been a bit cooler and rainier up there
07:22 PM xxcoder: rains is still quite rare here. only small drizzle 2 times across summer so far.
07:22 PM xxcoder: soon will finally have more rain soonish
07:23 PM roycroft: i hope it's a long time before it arrives here
07:24 PM roycroft: this roofing project is going to be pretty intense
07:24 PM roycroft: and i'll have at least half the roof uncovered at all times while i'm framing up the new one
07:25 PM roycroft: it's probably going to take me a couple weeks to do all the joinery work
07:25 PM roycroft: and i think i can tear off half the old roof in a day
07:26 PM roycroft: and probably frame the new roof in a day or two
07:26 PM roycroft: so as long as the joinery is all done in advance, i shouldn't have the shop exposed to the elements for too long
07:26 PM roycroft: but i still would rather get it done before the start of the rainy season
07:28 PM roycroft: i'll try to remember to do a render of the framing before i work on the rafters
07:28 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> the things I find.. https://photos.app.goo.gl/36MKpFGnSXLPUnLs9
07:29 PM xxcoder: torque calibration tool?
07:41 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> looks like it is a torque amplifier used for torquing track bolts.. lol
07:42 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> for a tank?
07:42 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> no clue
07:42 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> the direction card just shows how to torque the bolts
07:48 PM xxcoder: my guess is its for calbrating torque tools, for stuff you need reasonable good torque setting for say car engine
07:52 PM roycroft: skunkworks8841 lives in wisconsin, which is next to minnesota, so my guess is that it would be for torqueing track bolts on snow machines
08:12 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> it has goverment nsn numbers on it
08:12 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> so - thinking it was army related.
08:12 PM xxcoder: interesting
08:13 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol - and the case is green
08:44 PM Tom_L: is john deere military too? :)
08:44 PM xxcoder: not quite right shade of green
08:59 PM roycroft: not remotely the right shade of green
