01:25 AM Deejay: moin
04:28 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> moin
04:30 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> t4kuy4@: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/HfN3YckTgzg
04:30 AM Tom_L: morning
04:31 AM lcnc-relay: <t4kuy4@> meisterdippel@: Oh neat. Also got them tuned?
04:41 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> i have only read the encoder, nothing more yet
04:43 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> Morning
08:46 AM JT-Cave: pcw--home, 7i76e(u) should hm2_7i76e.0.7i76.0.0.spinout-minlim be set to 0 and the ini MIN_FORWARD_VELOCITY be set to some minimum rpm so the scaling is correct?
08:47 AM JT-Cave: for example if your spindle is 1000 max but unhappy below 250 and you have 0-10v spindle would the scaling be off if you set the hardware limit to 250?
08:48 AM JT-Cave: ie s500 should be 5v
08:51 AM pcw--home: Yes, that's commonly done with high speed spindles, It does not affect the scaling (the scalemax parameter sets the scaling)
08:52 AM pcw--home: sometimes maxlim is set also (say you have a 0..10V VFD control but a 12V power supply)
09:01 AM JT-Shop: thanks
10:33 AM JT-Shop: now I need to find that part I bent yesterday and the shaft collar...
10:36 AM JT-Shop: found the shaft collar in my desk drawer of all places
10:45 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> Figures, when I'm out of commission the LCNC at Milwaukee Makerspace goes down
10:46 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> The CMOS battery died in the PC of. wood router...
10:47 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> If someone from MMS comes in here please hold their hand and help them with BIOS settings
10:48 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> PC of a wood router
10:48 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> Thanks in advance
10:52 AM roycroft: aren't the bios settings for the machine printed out on a piece of paper that is taped to the inside of the enclosure lid?
10:53 AM * roycroft thought that was the normal way to keep track of such things
10:53 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> how do you print from BIOS?
10:53 AM roycroft: ?
10:54 AM roycroft: you document and print the settings from a computer that is up and running
10:54 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> true... good point 😉
10:56 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> sorry, not running on all cylinders, low blood sugar, colonoscopy prep, have not eaten for 3 days (except liquids)
10:59 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> Takes a few minutes to test settingd
10:59 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> Haven't you done hundreds of LCNC installs by now?
11:00 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> me?
11:00 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> Yes even you. 🙂
11:00 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> hundreds of re-installs on same machine 😉
11:01 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> All LCNC users in this channel are required to do at least one install per day to keep their LCNC expert card
11:01 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> lol
11:04 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> Install LCNC, clear CMOS, rinse repeat
11:04 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I have done enough to know that it seems different every time.. 😉
11:06 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> LCNC latency vs RTAI latency test is also fun
11:06 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> This PC has about a 20 microsecond difference between tests
11:08 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> I've noticed that about 8 hours is the max time before any PC has latency jumps
11:09 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> Maybe I'm just lucky
11:11 AM roycroft: i do debian installs on an almost daily basis
11:11 AM roycroft: but debian + linuxcnc maybe once/year or so
11:18 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> I have avoided Intel hardware since the 90's so of course the Makerspace PC is intel
11:47 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=taNRkXdU_6o
11:59 AM * roycroft is still fighting with his insurance company
11:59 AM roycroft: the lastest is that they have backtracked and now say they will not provide an estimate of coverage until i have the procedure done
11:59 AM roycroft: at which point i can request it
12:00 PM roycroft: i went to file a formal complaint with medicare, and they told me i cannot file a complaint against an insurance company - they only handle complaints against care providers
12:00 PM roycroft: i asked where i could file a complaint against an insurance company and was told, in essence, "not here"
12:09 PM xxcoder: that sucks
12:20 PM roycroft: time to get back to rep. hoyle's office, i think
12:21 PM roycroft: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2n3M-0JDTCI
12:21 PM roycroft: that is the situation
12:33 PM Tom_L: what about your state insurance commisioner
12:34 PM Tom_L: Andrew Stolfi
12:36 PM roycroft: the last time i contacted their office about a billing issue they said "when you need health care you just go get it, and not worry about whether the provider is in network or not"
12:36 PM roycroft: and refused to do anything
12:37 PM roycroft: this is when i had checked the provider's website, checked with my insurance company, and asked when i showed up in person if they were in network
12:37 PM roycroft: and they weren't
12:38 PM roycroft: i may try them again, after i exhaust my other options, but i don't have a lot of faith in them
12:38 PM Tom_L: i have little faith in anybody
12:39 PM roycroft: insurance commissioners tend to come from the insurance industry, and advocate more for insurance companies, who are their true consitituents in their minds, than for the people they were elected to serve
12:39 PM Tom_L: better business bureau
12:41 PM roycroft: bbbs and chambers of commerce are also pro-business organizations
12:41 PM roycroft: and anti-consumer
12:41 PM roycroft: even though they claim otherwise
12:44 PM xxcoder: BBB is worth nothing to me
12:51 PM roycroft: my led lamps should be delivered shortly
12:51 PM Tom_L: i've never gotten any good from any of them
12:51 PM roycroft: the rest of the cnc controller parts by this coming weekend
12:52 PM roycroft: i managed to totally break the axis gui while trying to get classicladder working for my external e-stop
12:52 PM roycroft: so i guess i have a bit of time to fix that
12:52 PM roycroft: i can, of course, restore the previous version of my main.hal file and have it going again in seconds
12:52 PM roycroft: but i'd like to debug what i did i hopes of fixing it
12:53 PM Tom_L: i loaded ladder on a sim but that's about it
12:54 PM xxcoder: yeah probably can use git type text change to see what you did
12:54 PM xxcoder: probably easier to spot the error
12:57 PM roycroft: the ladder logic is not the problem - that is easy
12:57 PM roycroft: it's the pin assignments and their implications that are either poorly documented or i'm just an idiot and cannot find the documentation
12:58 PM roycroft: anyway, i'll get there
12:58 PM Tom_L: pins from hal?
12:58 PM roycroft: yes
12:58 PM Tom_L: open the hal show to see the names
12:58 PM roycroft: and i've looked at the hal documentation
12:58 PM roycroft: there are brief descriptions of the pins, but that doesn't tell me exactly what they do
12:58 PM Tom_L: iirc from the machine menu
12:59 PM Tom_L: then expand the pin section
12:59 PM roycroft: like iocontrol.0.emc-enable-in and iocontrol.0.user-request-enable and iocontrol.0.user-enable-out
01:00 PM roycroft: i need to know exactly how those pins interact with linuxcnc so i can build the ladder logic appropriately
01:00 PM roycroft: also iocontrol.0.user-enable.out
01:00 PM roycroft: er
01:00 PM roycroft: iocontrol.0.user-enable.in
01:01 PM Tom_L: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/stable/html/man/man1/iov2.1.html
01:01 PM Tom_L: yeah, some aren't that descriptive
01:01 PM roycroft: right
01:01 PM roycroft: i've read that page several times
01:01 PM roycroft: and it alludes to what they do, but doesn't say what they do
01:02 PM roycroft: i'd rather not have to go searching through the source code to figure it out
01:02 PM roycroft: it should be easier than that
01:02 PM Tom_L: the docs are 1k x better than when i started :)
01:02 PM roycroft: i ran across some old emc docs the other day buried deep in one of my documents folders
01:02 PM roycroft: from 2.4.something
01:03 PM roycroft: they were somewhat spartan compared to current linuxcnc docs
01:04 PM Tom_L: a programmer should never write their own help file :)
01:04 PM Tom_L: they already assume you know how it works
01:04 PM Tom_L: since they do
01:04 PM roycroft: while i'm not a big fan of pascal, donald knuth's self-documenting code model was pretty good
01:04 PM roycroft: but yes, i agree
01:05 PM roycroft: and when i was young i did some technical writing for pay
01:05 PM roycroft: i wrote documentation for database systems that others developed
01:05 PM Tom_L: i'd much rather write code than docs
01:07 PM JT-Shop: the iocontrol pins seem to be documented well enough
01:08 PM Tom_L: i think so but i've been around them quite a while
01:08 PM JT-Shop: but for an external estop I'd use estop_latch
01:08 PM JT-Shop: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/stable/html/man/man9/estop_latch.9.html
01:09 PM Tom_L: along with ladder?
01:09 PM Tom_L: i used it but i didn't use ladder
01:09 PM JT-Shop: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/47-hal-examples/25861-external-e-stop
01:09 PM JT-Shop: if you need the ladder to do something sure
01:10 PM * JT-Shop heads to town for a bit
01:10 PM * Tom_L feels it's nap time
01:12 PM JT-Shop: you could use iocontrol.0.user-enable-out to cause a light to flash via ladder
01:12 PM * JT-Shop just got up from his power nap
01:12 PM roycroft: you went to town, had a power nap, and got up all within a few seconds?
01:13 PM roycroft: that must have been some power nap and a very fast trip to town
01:14 PM xxcoder: or typing while nap while driving
01:14 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I always used ladder for the estop loop - but now I would probably use the estop_latch. (it wasn't around way way long ago)
01:14 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> (if I didn't have a reason to use ladder
02:58 PM * JT-Shop takes 5 before filling up the deer feeder then making another prox target so I can find the one I made yesterday
03:44 PM JT-Shop: second prox target made and tested and passed
04:26 PM pcw is now known as Guest6791
04:31 PM JT-Shop: last tank prox target done
04:31 PM roycroft: i'm done with work for now, as i have to do maintenance this evening later on
04:32 PM roycroft: i want to finish the lighting project, but fedex are late today
04:32 PM roycroft: and i can't do anything until the new lamps arrive
04:32 PM Tom_L: what are they for?
04:32 PM Tom_L: the targets
04:32 PM JT-Shop: me or roycroft ?
04:33 PM Tom_L: u
04:33 PM * roycroft thinks he'll work on the e-stop thing again while waiting for fedex
04:33 PM JT-Shop: the grinding tank at empire, it was down for a while when they installed a new motor and gearbox
04:33 PM JT-Shop: so I need to finish it up
04:34 PM Tom_L: oh
04:34 PM JT-Shop: mount the target on the shaft with a split collar and then mount the prox and run a bit of sealtite
04:34 PM JT-Shop: I've been paid for this project for quite some time
04:36 PM Tom_L: yeah they ran the gearbox dry
04:36 PM JT-Shop: yup
04:37 PM Tom_L: kid just got his bike back
04:37 PM JT-Shop: when it wouldn't turn any more they realized they had an issue and it was not my issue
04:37 PM JT-Shop: what did they do to the bike?
04:37 PM Tom_L: fixed the fork seal
04:37 PM JT-Shop: ah yeah I forgot
04:37 PM Tom_L: i think they just did one since it was a failure and not wear
04:38 PM JT-Shop: when I rebuilt my forks I was a bit surprised to find some wrong fasteners in one
04:39 PM Tom_L: was it hard getting the spring back in?
04:40 PM Tom_L: i was watching part of a YT on rebuilding them
04:40 PM JT-Shop: no, it was not bad
04:40 PM Tom_L: you need a handfull of special tools
04:40 PM Tom_L: at least the driver
04:41 PM JT-Shop: I put my 8" rotary table and 8" 4 jaw chuck on marketplace and a guy has already committed to buying them
04:41 PM Tom_L: that's fast
04:41 PM JT-Shop: yup I made a seal driver
04:41 PM JT-Shop: yup they have only been on marketplace for a few days
04:41 PM Tom_L: that and i doubt i have a socket big enough for the top nut
04:42 PM Tom_L: i have no plans to rebuild one, just curious
04:43 PM Tom_L: what's the mileage on your honda?
04:43 PM JT-Shop: I had no plans to rebuild them either... but when I noticed they were leaking it was time
04:43 PM Tom_L: heh
04:45 PM JT-Shop: I was just going to change the tires but ended up replacing the instrument panel lens, battery, tires and rebuilding both forks
04:46 PM Tom_L: that wasn't that long ago...
04:46 PM JT-Shop: and the mrs even went for a ride a while back with me
04:46 PM Tom_L: that's cool
04:46 PM Tom_L: glad she's feeling up to it now
04:47 PM JT-Shop: me too, she started walking at the park but then it got too hot
04:47 PM JT-Shop: her birthday is coming up in a month...
04:48 PM Tom_L: my oldest's is today
04:48 PM JT-Shop: she will be 3 years older than me for 6 weeks
04:48 PM Tom_L: heh
04:49 PM Tom_L: better do something special
04:49 PM xxcoder: talking about age, I am now of age my dad was when I was born lol
04:49 PM xxcoder: more or less anyway
04:49 PM JT-Shop: yup, was planning on going to Chaumette but they will be closed by then
04:49 PM Tom_L: you're going there their last day though...
04:50 PM JT-Shop: yup
04:51 PM Tom_L: my partner turned 78 couple days ago
04:51 PM JT-Shop: Aug 10th is their last day and it's not really announced but Tim (the waiter) told us he would pencil us in for that day
04:51 PM Tom_L: that's cool
04:52 PM JT-Shop: when I called about reservations for last Saturday Tim said we are booked full... ok I got you down for 2:45 been saying no all day but I can't say no to you
04:52 PM Tom_L: :)
04:54 PM xxcoder: nice
04:54 PM JT-Shop: yes, I was quite surprised
04:58 PM Tom_L: is tim related to the owner?
04:58 PM JT-Shop: no, he just works there
04:58 PM Tom_L: he's been there a while...
04:59 PM JT-Shop: the owners are very nice and easy to talk to
04:59 PM JT-Shop: yup Tim has been there for a long time
05:04 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I think my dad was 18 when my sistar was born..
05:04 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> (mom was 16 gasp)
05:04 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> or 17
05:04 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I don't remember
05:05 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I didn't have kids until I was 40
05:05 PM JT-Shop: well you weren't there...
05:05 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> probably not
05:06 PM JT-Shop: I was maybe 20 when my oldest was born and a couple of years later the second daughter was born
05:07 PM JT-Shop: so they are only a couple of decades younger than me
05:11 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I think it was good for me. I certainly feel like I was ready when I was younger. But then I have friends I graduated with that have grand kids already
05:11 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> *not ready
05:11 PM Tom_L: are you ready now?
05:12 PM Tom_L: :)
05:12 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I think so. 🙂
05:12 PM JT-Shop: I have two grandchildren, one is in collage and one is starting lawyer school having finished collage and a bit of marines time
05:12 PM Tom_L: it's a new experience every day watching them grow up
05:12 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> this was all planned... Both kids. It was hilarious. Ok - lets try. poof - 1 kid. Ok - we should try for the second.. Poof - second kid..
05:13 PM JT-Shop: my first was the mother of my children lying to me...
05:13 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> JT-Shop: christ.. yes - I will miss out on that.
05:13 PM JT-Shop: the second was she needs a playmate
05:20 PM JT-Shop: https://youtu.be/H6bhXxl5nRQ?t=610
05:22 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I haven't watched any of his stuff since he got the other boat running
05:22 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> *tally ho
05:23 PM JT-Shop: I thought that was a funny ad
05:23 PM JT-Shop: Leo should be sailing to England shortly
05:24 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> right - the last i checked in he was trying to decide what direction to go
05:24 PM JT-Shop: I watch Tally Ho and Acorn to Arabella
05:25 PM JT-Shop: he's going through the panama canal
05:25 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> ah - I didn't even know you could get there through northern canada..
05:25 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> (one of the routes..)
05:26 PM JT-Shop: yup the northwest passage is not that great for wooden boats
05:26 PM JT-Shop: I forget which explorer got ice bound up there and all the crew perished
05:28 PM JT-Shop: iirc admiral bird spend a winter with the Eskimo to learn how to survive up there
05:37 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol - I just found a filing cabinate drawer full of sand paper - in different folders
05:41 PM JT-Shop: LOL I keep my sand paper in folders in a filing cabinet
05:41 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol
05:42 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I keep finding suprises...
05:43 PM JT-Shop: I went through that when I cleaned out Dad's house
05:44 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I don't know if you heard - I found another granite surface plate up on a shelf...
05:44 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> no clue it was there
05:44 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> sterret
05:45 PM JT-Shop: I have a WW2 cast iron surface plate... dunno why
05:45 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> starret
05:45 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> people love those..
05:45 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> for some reason 😉
05:45 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> we have a nice blanchard ground cast iron table that is nice for laying things out - it is about 4X5ft
05:46 PM JT-Shop: I had a 5x5 table but got rid of it
05:46 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> currently it is just full of junk
05:46 PM JT-Shop: still have the 4x4 table with a 1" top
05:47 PM JT-Shop: yup flat spots collect crap
05:48 PM JT-Shop: it's amazing you collect for a long time then you just want to get rid of most of it so you have space for new projects
05:49 PM xxcoder: its curse of flat surfaces
05:49 PM JT-Shop: yup
05:50 PM * JT-Shop calls it a day
05:52 PM roycroft: lamps just arrived
05:52 PM roycroft: and there is no rattling or tinkling sound when i shake the box, so they are likely intact
05:52 PM xxcoder: or its just well-secured bricks
05:52 PM roycroft: since they were delivered by fedex and not ups, i was not too concerned
06:11 PM roycroft: they do not work though :(
06:12 PM xxcoder: I know my brick comment was a joke, but they might be actual "bricked" ie doesnt work?
06:13 PM roycroft: replacing fluorescent lamps with led lamps can be a bit tricky
06:13 PM roycroft: the ones i got are designed for instant-start ballasts, which i have
06:13 PM roycroft: and there are two types of light fixtures in that room - the new lamps do not work in either one
06:14 PM roycroft: i am on the phone with philips tech support now
06:28 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> dad converted all of the light fixtures in the shop to remove the ballasts so they take normal 120v led lights
06:28 PM roycroft: that's another option
06:29 PM roycroft: it seems odd that, since i have two different types of fixtures, the ballasts in all of them would be incompatible with these lamps, but that's a distinct possibility
06:29 PM roycroft: and philips just confirmed that if that is the case, i can bypass the ballasts and get some lamps that run directly on the mains power
06:31 PM roycroft: of course they cost a lot more
06:31 PM roycroft: that's always the rule - when you have the wrong thing, the right thing always costs more
06:32 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> do they? Dad must have been lucky and bought a ton of these led lights off of ebay for $3ish dollars a piece.. I think we have had 2 or so go bad.
06:32 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> but that was probably 20 years ago or more
06:32 PM roycroft: i'll check on ebay
06:32 PM roycroft: i ususally get the best prices at home depot
06:33 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> they may have gone up.. I really have not costed them - ever
06:34 PM roycroft: yeah, they are way more expensive on ebay
06:35 PM roycroft: and i can't get the color temperature i want in a 10 pack
06:35 PM roycroft: so now they are way way more expensive, if i buy them individually
06:35 PM roycroft: it may be cheaper to buy new ballasts
06:35 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> 8.40 for 10 (84 dollars)
06:36 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> so more expensive that when dad bought them
06:37 PM roycroft: i got 10 of these, which i use in my shop, for $45 from home depot, with free delivery
06:38 PM roycroft: the direct wire ones are more like $80 for a ten-pack, and i can only get 5000k or warmer in a 10 pack
06:38 PM roycroft: i want 6500k, and those are going to cost me $100 for 10
06:39 PM roycroft: the ones i got for $45 are 6500k
06:39 PM roycroft: i don't know why i can't get 10 packs of the daylight lamps
06:40 PM roycroft: they are really the best ones to put in a shop or most studios
06:40 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://www.ebay.com/itm/263004619346
06:41 PM roycroft: those are clear, not frosted
06:41 PM roycroft: that would drive me crazy
06:41 PM roycroft: sorry, but lighting is something i'm very particular about
06:42 PM roycroft: oh, there are frosted ones in that listing as well, but they are $78.25
06:44 PM roycroft: aah, i found some for $38.95
06:45 PM Tom_L: i like the daylite bulbs
06:46 PM Tom_L: been replacing the flourescent as they die
06:46 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol
06:49 PM roycroft: https://www.ebay.com/itm/302639861202
06:49 PM roycroft: the pictures for that listing say they are 6500k, but the listing description says "cool white", which is 4000k-5000k
06:50 PM roycroft: i've asked for clarification, but if those really are 6500k then they're a good deal
06:50 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/oFMYjcWnfg34s8zg8
06:50 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> you would die here.
07:03 PM xxcoder: can always etch the clear ones
07:08 PM roycroft: i'd be adding a bunch of task lighting if i were there
07:08 PM roycroft: and the new lamps work fine in my shop - i just tested one
07:08 PM roycroft: so it's the fixtures
07:11 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Hmm - wonder where dads other drill dr is..
08:54 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Gene...
09:22 PM roycroft: hackman?
09:52 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Heskett
10:14 PM pcw--home: Our green beans are out of control, 15 lbs today
10:19 PM roycroft: that's a lotta beans
10:19 PM roycroft: it's a good thing you have some herbivorous livestock
10:22 PM pcw--home: Yeah we give them all the funny ones
10:22 PM xxcoder: good. breed out the joker green beans lol
10:22 PM roycroft: and they are delighted to get them
10:22 PM roycroft: funny or not
10:23 PM pcw--home: they also get vegetarian leftovers, fruit peels, leftover soup etc
10:24 PM pcw--home: big treat relative to the dry grass/thistle stems they have otherwise
10:24 PM roycroft: and in the end you still get compost
10:25 PM xxcoder: cycle of life and scat
10:25 PM roycroft: it just gets processed differently than if you put the scraps in a pile
10:26 PM xxcoder: probably funniest word for it is fewmat
10:26 PM xxcoder: I probably mispelled it
10:30 PM pcw--home: a good thing is that sheep droppings are pretty benign, my wife wants a cow but they make big messes
10:31 PM roycroft: cow pies are like smelly squish mines that are hard to avoid
10:31 PM pcw--home: besides we would probable have to feed it in the summer
10:32 PM roycroft: besides, sheep are cuter than cows
10:32 PM roycroft: and a lot smarter (it doesn't take much to be smarter than a cow)
10:32 PM pcw--home: We do supplement the sheeps grazing in late summer especially since we have some older ones with bad teeth
10:33 PM pcw--home: Our oldest is 20 now which is up there in sheep years
10:33 PM roycroft: especially harold - he's that most dangerous of all creatures, the clever sheep
10:34 PM roycroft: yeah, 20 is pretty old for a sheep
10:35 PM xxcoder: I just read about one state considering bringing in hippos to clear out the rivers
10:36 PM xxcoder: and it'd be meat too. thankfully they never did it, hipps is most dangerous animal
10:36 PM pcw--home: Hippos: cute and deadly
10:36 PM roycroft: because introducing foreign species into an ecosystem always works out so well
10:37 PM roycroft: the tidal wave has hit alaska
10:38 PM roycroft: we have warnings all along our coast
10:38 PM pcw--home: From Russia?
10:38 PM roycroft: yes
10:38 PM xxcoder: one coast was hit with 60 cm
10:38 PM xxcoder: so probably wont be too big for wa or or states
10:38 PM xxcoder: cl too
10:39 PM roycroft: the first wave that hit alaska was 60cm, but they're expecting bigger ones
10:39 PM xxcoder: oh just first. ok
10:42 PM roycroft: even 1m is a lot if it's a tidal wave
10:42 PM roycroft: because those waves can be very very long
10:42 PM roycroft: so it's 1m sustained, not 1m splash and done
10:42 PM xxcoder: ok
10:43 PM * roycroft is not worried
10:43 PM roycroft: when i lived in eugene i was an hour from the coast and at 150m elevation
10:43 PM roycroft: now i'm 2 hours from the cost and at 450m
10:44 PM xxcoder: I techincally live near ocean, the inlet ocean, but it wont reach here anyway.
10:44 PM roycroft: yeah, tidal waves piddle out in the sound
10:44 PM roycroft: they don't really get past the strait of juan da fuca
10:45 PM xxcoder: when I used to live much closer to inlet sea, it was still over 100 feet above
10:49 PM roycroft: waikiki beach has been evacuated
10:50 PM roycroft: as has the fukushima reactor plant
11:10 PM roycroft: northern california now is under a tsunami warning
11:11 PM roycroft: from mendocino north to oreogn
11:11 PM roycroft: oregon
11:28 PM olfluffywf: yeah, they just sent it to my phone... but the expected wave height here is 1.5ft. and I'm not on the ocean.
11:35 PM olfluffywf: heh, now the forecast says 0.31m, which is barely over 1ft.
11:40 PM roycroft: i bet crescent city will get some decent waves
