05:36 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> Morning
06:36 AM JT-Cave: https://tomlehrersongs.com/
11:01 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> travis_farmer@ Hey
11:03 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> hey
11:03 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> is github slow for everyone today?
11:05 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> not slow for me, and nothing on downdetector.com
11:05 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> lucky me
11:05 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> oh back to being zippy now
11:05 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> lol, could be worse, i have colonoscopy prep today 🙂
11:06 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> fun
11:06 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> oh, it's a blast
11:07 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> so far coming out of 11 hours of anesthesia has been the worst
11:07 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> dang!
11:17 AM roycroft: yikes, that's a long time
11:17 AM roycroft: i was only down for a bit over an hour when i had my back surgery, and that was a pretty intense recovery
11:20 AM Tom_L: you didn't have a hole drilled in your head either
11:20 AM Tom_L: any recovery isn't fun though
11:30 AM roycroft: fortunately, i did not
11:30 AM roycroft: although sometimes i think i have a hole in my head
11:31 AM Tom_L: my memory is leaking out somewhere
11:33 AM roycroft: i think mine is just reverting to the primordial goo
11:33 AM Tom_L: is that like when jello melts?
11:34 AM roycroft: i think so
01:18 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> shhesh reading my notes
01:18 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> "Using a 4
01:18 PM lcnc-relay: mm diamond drill, I extended the craniectomy inferiorly"
01:19 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> they had tough time trying to save my face
01:29 PM roycroft: saving face is important
01:29 PM roycroft: i hope they succeeded
01:29 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> roycroft: are you still feeling stiff?
01:30 PM roycroft: upper back is a bit stiff still
01:30 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> I had no pain after
01:30 PM roycroft: nothing to complain about though
01:30 PM roycroft: and it's not painful - it just feels "tight"
01:30 PM roycroft: in between the shoulder blades
01:30 PM roycroft: the lower back pain that i've suffered for 30+ years is completely gone
01:30 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> I asked to stop any pain meds by day 2, i wanted to know how i actually felt
01:30 PM roycroft: i feel better than i have in ages
01:31 PM roycroft: what i did was cut back until i could barely feel the pain
01:31 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> my balance is still a bit off but getting better
01:31 PM roycroft: i figured that way i would stop taking pain meds when the pain subsided, and not risk becoming addicted to them
01:32 PM roycroft: the vertigo is 95% gone with me
01:32 PM roycroft: i think i'm going to just end up living with mild vertigo upon occasion
01:32 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> i can stand on one leg and also walk with one foot in front of the other on flat ground like walking a tight rope
01:32 PM roycroft: it's never enough to make me feel like i'm going to fall or anything like that
01:32 PM * roycroft hasn't tried that stuff in a while
01:32 PM roycroft: that sounds like a dui test
01:33 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> i think i can psss a DUI test now when sober
01:33 PM roycroft: and i avoid dui tests by not only not drinking while driving, but not driving erratically period
01:33 PM xxcoder: I cant do that dui test lol
01:34 PM xxcoder: permently dizzy and vision not tracking properly means its simply impossible for me
01:34 PM roycroft: so i decided i don't like the way i mounted those light fixtures in my studio yesterday, and i'm going to redo them
01:34 PM roycroft: i was wondering if that would happen, and it did
01:35 PM Tom_L: may as well use the led then if you're gonna redo them
01:35 PM roycroft: the room has a vaulted ceiling, and i hung the light fixtures horizontally with chains
01:35 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> xxcoder: I was like that on the day after surgery. i couldn't eat since food kept on spinning
01:35 PM roycroft: i have a box of led lamps for them due to arrive today or tomorrow
01:35 PM Tom_L: no point in climbing twice
01:36 PM xxcoder: spinning food sounds fun
01:36 PM roycroft: anyway, i've decided to remount a couple of them directly to the ceiling, at its angle, and see if that's better
01:36 PM roycroft: spinning food is more commonly experienced when coming out of one's mouth than when going in
01:37 PM roycroft: and that's never fun
01:37 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> 3 weeks ago today
01:37 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> I can walk for miles now
01:38 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> more like a 3 year old than a drunk toddler
01:39 PM xxcoder: I dont think I ever seen drunk toddler, nor do I hope so lol
01:39 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> what it felt like
01:39 PM roycroft: toddlers don't need to get drunk
01:39 PM roycroft: they are naturally intoxicated
01:40 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> I'm still peeling glue off me
01:41 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> the things they don't tell you: bruises for weeks, glue in your hair
01:42 PM roycroft: whatever they used to attach the vacuum bandage to my back took a long time to come off
01:42 PM roycroft: i don't think i ever was able to scrub it all off - i think the remants came off when i shed dead cells
01:43 PM roycroft: lunch time
01:43 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> they put my head in a big clamp, I still have a small hole in my forehead and two more in the back
01:43 PM roycroft: time to go remount a couple light fixtures and see how they look
01:43 PM roycroft: hopefully those holes do not allow one to see through your head
01:43 PM Tom_L: better than having them slip with the drill
01:44 PM roycroft: that would be peculiar
01:44 PM roycroft: at the very least
01:44 PM xxcoder: if my head had a through hole, I would add laser pointer into it
01:44 PM xxcoder: just for lols
01:45 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> EXTERMINATE!!!!
01:45 PM xxcoder: or very bright flashlight. "behold my brain power" *turns on flashlight*
01:45 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> but now i get to work on getting my hearing back in my left ear
01:46 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> zaps Skunkworks
01:47 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> âš¡
01:47 PM JT-Shop: well I'm not ordering online from walmart any more they require and account with phone number
01:47 PM JT-Shop: fxxk that
01:48 PM xxcoder: last thing I ordered from walmart was few years ago, rice cooker
01:48 PM xxcoder: and nearly a decade before that lol
01:48 PM xxcoder: I dont like walmart
01:48 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GCS9JqNJB0
01:50 PM xxcoder: interesting.
01:51 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> Brain-Computer Interface without having to drill any new holes
01:54 PM xxcoder: most of it seems excellent. ai at end, not so much
01:56 PM JT-Shop: ordered from amazon screw walmart
02:01 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> why are you zapping me?
02:03 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> were you not overcome by a Dalek?
02:03 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol - sorry - a lot has happened since then...
02:06 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> heh the social worker asked if my ex could help me after surgery
02:06 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol
02:06 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> it's been 32 years
02:06 PM xxcoder: some people do separate without issues or hate, but yah if no contact for 32 years probably wont work
02:07 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> i hopefully won't recognizer her and by help you mean murder me, thrn maybe
02:08 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> my ex called me out of the blue a few years ago and said that i was the better parent
02:08 PM roycroft: meaning "the kids need money and i'm sending them to you" :)
02:08 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> was very strange like some kind of making amends
02:09 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> our kids are mid 30's now
02:09 PM xxcoder: I feel I would have been a horrible parent. glad I am alone and have no kids
02:09 PM roycroft: yes
02:09 PM roycroft: and they need money
02:13 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Eh - it isn't too bad.. Knock on wood...
02:35 PM Tom_L: you seem pretty good at it
02:37 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> well - the oldest becomes a teenager this year.. I will get back to you.
02:37 PM JT-Shop: hmm bending a 2" wide 11 gauge piece of steel flat to a 2" id was easier than I thought
02:37 PM JT-Shop: look out daddy
02:38 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> speaking of bending.. I was looking through dads vevor purchases and there should be a tubing bender around here somewhere..
02:40 PM lcnc-relay: <fdarling@> I have a question: does LinuxCNC's "genserkins" kinematics support TCP (tool centerpoint control)? I have it converting from joint space to XYZ+ABC, but I am not sure about TCP vs non-TCP... people on the forums are mostly talking about 5-axis mills that have rotaries holding the workpiece.
02:41 PM lcnc-relay: <fdarling@> the A,B, and C axes have their origins "coincident" with tool length compensation off, this is a side effect of the way the kinematics were worked out. I am not sure if it will rotate about the tool tip or about this imaginary "center" when commanding rotations, and if it is wrong, how to switch it
02:43 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I don't know if anyone around here would be able to answer this question.. You would probably have better luck on the forum. I 'think' it has to be part of the kins but I have not played with that sort of stuff for many many years.
02:59 PM roycroft: i've spent a little time looking at the vevor drill sharpener
02:59 PM roycroft: and i'll readily concede that it's likely much better than my drill doctor
02:59 PM roycroft: i'm not sure i could cost justify it though - i don't have to sharpen drills often, and i can get the job done with the drill doctor
02:59 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I was getting tired of hand shaprening the bigger drills. That just sucked. Now I can sharpen a 3/4 drill in less than 1 minute
02:59 PM roycroft: does the vevor have an angle adjustment?
03:07 PM roycroft: yeah, the vevor seems more adjustable than the drill doctor
03:07 PM roycroft: and of course the collets are a lot better
03:07 PM roycroft: i'm still fine with what i have, but perhaps some day i'll change my mind
03:08 PM xxcoder: if small sizes seem to be a problem for vevor, you still have doc since you already use that for smaller drills anyway
03:08 PM Tom_L: once you start machining more metal
03:08 PM roycroft: actually, not
03:08 PM roycroft: the drill doctor is fine for ferrous metals as is
03:09 PM roycroft: but if i start drilling more plastics and copper/brass, it may be useful as it's easy to adjust the point angle and clearance
03:13 PM lcnc-relay: <t4kuy4@> meisterdippel@: already got yours running?
03:16 PM JT-Shop: it would be nice to sharpen my S&D drills but I use them so seldom anymore it's not cost effective to get a vevor
03:17 PM Tom_L: kinda in the same boat
03:18 PM Tom_L: i've got a crap set of fraction and 2 full number letter fraction different lengths
03:18 PM Tom_L: 'cnc' length and jobber
03:19 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/TeEH11V8K8ugRAYn9
03:19 PM Tom_L: if i run a job i'd get spares of those sizes
03:23 PM JT-Shop: I have drill bit dispenser cabinets for fraction, letter and number bits with a few of each size in each section
03:23 PM Tom_L: yeah my bud had a roll around cart full like that
03:24 PM Tom_L: with endmills as well
03:25 PM Tom_L: but he used alot more than i do
03:26 PM Tom_L: when i did the mill i found out right away standard length wouldn't do for it
03:27 PM Tom_L: stub length or screw machine length
03:28 PM JT-Shop: yup I prefer screw machine length but have a fractional set of standard length
03:29 PM JT-Shop: I like 135° split point
03:32 PM Tom_L: the tap dispenser has a drill with each one as well so i don't have to dig
03:36 PM JT-Shop: I have a few of those for different types and one for metric
03:38 PM JT-Shop: I need to find the chuck key for the 8" 4 jaw chuck I have on marketplace
03:38 PM JT-Shop: got someone that is interested in it
03:49 PM JT-Shop: found the wood box it came in and the key and some other stuff
04:00 PM roycroft: i'm not impressed with facebook marketplace so far
04:01 PM roycroft: it's been nothing but lowballers and no-shows
04:01 PM JT-Shop: I guess it depends on the people that live near you more than marketplace
04:02 PM roycroft: yes, i agree
04:03 PM roycroft: and btw, in my listing i state that i can deliver to the greater eugene area, so it's not because i live so far away from town
04:03 PM * JT-Shop goes to take the trash out but a deer is walking up the driveway so I'll wait as she is a nervous doe
04:03 PM roycroft: it's honestly, i think, because the welder is green, not blue or red
04:04 PM roycroft: but green, blue, yellow, or red, all the inverter welders are made in china
04:05 PM roycroft: a fact of which many willfully and convienently choose to be ignorant
04:08 PM lcnc-relay: <t4kuy4@> anyone got some OMC A6´s running?
04:10 PM Tom_L: roy, paint it red
04:10 PM roycroft: i'd get more money for it if i did
04:11 PM roycroft: except to make it really red, i'd have to pull out the high-quality, matched german igbt output transistors and swap in some cheap chinese ones
04:13 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, waiting for a coon report...
04:14 PM JT-Shop: waiting to catch it...
04:15 PM Tom_L: 95F feels like 103F
04:18 PM JT-Shop: I might have to up the ante on the bait and put something with a stronger smell
04:20 PM JT-Shop: 95f feels like 111f or 44c for roycroft
04:20 PM Tom_L: t4liu4. https://forum.linuxcnc.org/ethercat/56702-trying-to-get-my-omc-a6-servos-homing
04:20 PM Tom_L: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/12-milling/56749-tuning-of-omc-stepperonline-a6-servos
04:21 PM lcnc-relay: <t4kuy4@> yea saw both of that
04:21 PM lcnc-relay: <t4kuy4@> tuning is really... interesting on them tbh
04:36 PM lcnc-relay: <t4kuy4@> inertia tuning is far more advanced than on the T6 series
04:41 PM roycroft: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VR6Az1wfTI8&t=78s
04:41 PM roycroft: that's a bit old, but it's about an electric logging truck, which makes a lot of sense
04:41 PM roycroft: if the mill were at the base of the mountain it would essentially be a perpetual motion machine
04:42 PM roycroft: drive up the mountain empty, weighing 12 tons
04:42 PM roycroft: load up with logs, drive down weighing 62 tons, doing regenerative braking the whole way down
04:42 PM JT-Shop: there's a mining truck that hauls mineral down hill charging batteries then uses the batteries to get back up the mountian
04:42 PM roycroft: there's a generator in the truck to recharge the batteries if you have to drive to the mill once you're downhill
04:43 PM roycroft: same idea as this one
04:43 PM xxcoder: aging wheels recently released video about ev truck and towing and heavy loads
04:47 PM lcnc-relay: <rs> this thing driving up empty and recuperating driving down is really done
04:48 PM lcnc-relay: <rs> they could really have done a proper job at those welds in the video... really ugly.
04:49 PM roycroft: if you're talking about the edison truck, rs, the whole truck is pretty ugly
04:49 PM roycroft: but it's a prototype
04:49 PM roycroft: i'm assuming that when they manufacture it will be more refined
04:50 PM JT-Shop: https://youtu.be/Hb8UUM41zns?t=712
04:50 PM lcnc-relay: <rs> i mean they washed it and put new tires on....
04:50 PM JT-Shop: been there done that a bunch of time
04:51 PM JT-Shop: don't have a thumb on my hoe but I can pick up a stump with no problem
04:52 PM Tom_L: 710D a bit bigger
04:52 PM JT-Shop: and 4 wheel drive too!
04:54 PM roycroft: i just got a call from the republican national committee begging me to help save our country
04:54 PM roycroft: i'd say they're working from the wrong list :)
04:54 PM roycroft: i was polite and told them i was at work and could not talk
04:55 PM roycroft: and when they started talking faster i just thanked them and hung up
04:55 PM JT-Shop: 710D 120 hp and 23,038 lbs... 310A 62 hp and 13,518 lbs so BIG difference
04:57 PM JT-Shop: I'm glad I don't have to answer a phone and I only answer if they are in my phone book
04:57 PM Tom_L: i don't get many of those anymore
04:58 PM JT-Shop: so far the check is in the mail from legacy from the 2020 invoice lol
04:58 PM Tom_L: the nail place?
04:58 PM JT-Shop: yup
04:58 PM roycroft: i kind of have to answer my business lines
04:58 PM Tom_L: guess they don't want more anytime soon
05:00 PM JT-Shop: I don't trust Jeff and we sat with his father and mil last Sat on the Corvette club ride
05:01 PM JT-Shop: Dave started out dirt poor and built up a huge empire
05:01 PM JT-Shop: that's his dad
05:01 PM Tom_L: yeah
05:02 PM xxcoder: in old days, tty answering would make spammers think its fax line and remove it from list
05:02 PM JT-Shop: Dave hired me from Atlas Steel in Harahan LA to run his collated nail plant
05:02 PM xxcoder: sadly tty is obslete tech now
05:03 PM JT-Shop: I can remember when I got no spam calls on the land line...
05:05 PM Tom_L: now scams are big business
05:07 PM Tom_L: not sure the national do not call list even works anymore
05:07 PM xxcoder: that only stops legit ones
05:07 PM JT-Shop: yup that never worked
05:08 PM JT-Shop: blocking every call that is spam seems to slow them down after a year or more of blocking
05:09 PM Tom_L: my block list is probably longer than my contacts
05:09 PM roycroft: there is an outfit who call one of my business numbers several times/day trying to sell me merchant services
05:10 PM roycroft: they call from different numbers every time, but the calls are all from lincoln city, madras, chemault, and klamath falls (all cities in oregon)
05:10 PM roycroft: so whenever i see a call from one of those cities on that line i just hit the reject button
05:10 PM JT-Shop: I must have a thousand blocked numbers
05:10 PM roycroft: this has been going on for over 2 years - they are relentless
05:11 PM roycroft: i should look at it as though they're providing a valuable service to me
05:11 PM roycroft: they assure me several times/day that my phones are working properly
05:11 PM JT-Shop: you should answer with the what is your relationship with the deceased?
05:12 PM JT-Shop: you may have information the police need... stay where you're at a detective will be there shortly
05:13 PM roycroft: my work day is over
05:13 PM roycroft: i was going to mount the other two light fixtures to the ceiling, but i've decided to leave them hanging for now
05:13 PM xxcoder: its hot for today and next 3 days
05:14 PM roycroft: the led lamps will arrive tomorrow, i think (they're still scheduled for delivery today, but i don't think they're going to make it), and i want to install the new lamps in all the fixtures, and then live with half on the ceiling and half suspended for a bit so i can decide which i prefer
05:14 PM roycroft: i think i'll prefer the ceiling
05:14 PM roycroft: but i might as well give it a bit of time
05:15 PM roycroft: perhaps i'll work on the cnc controller for a bit - i had put that project aside over the weekend, as i had other things to do and it was frustrating me
05:15 PM roycroft: but i'd like to get it done soon
05:22 PM JT-Shop: hmm these caramel rice crisps are pretty good
05:23 PM Tom_L: hard to put em down?
05:24 PM JT-Shop: yup
05:25 PM Tom_L: they wouldn't last long around here
05:26 PM JT-Shop: boys would make them disappear?
05:26 PM Tom_L: boys heck...
05:27 PM Tom_L: not unless they found em
05:27 PM JT-Shop: you?
05:27 PM Tom_L: i'm sure
05:28 PM Tom_L: she gets boxes of famous amos and those go pretty quick
05:29 PM Tom_L: both boys take stuff like that in their lunches
05:29 PM Tom_L: i sneak a few in myself
05:30 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> https://gumicsonak.ddns.net/nc/index.php/s/aYndBaJgK94WXcy
05:30 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> got some if somebody need it
05:31 PM Tom_L: hss?
05:31 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> yes
05:31 PM Tom_L: you'll use em
05:31 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> i got too many
05:32 PM roycroft: you should use a proper website to post things, .le_potato@
05:32 PM roycroft: self-signed certificates are so 20th century, and so utterly unnecessary these days
05:32 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> like?
05:32 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> roycroft: i just switech to cf
05:32 PM roycroft: like something that works properly and does not raise alarms in browsers
05:33 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> *switched
05:33 PM roycroft: i don't know what that means
05:33 PM Tom_L: sometimes they come thru fine
05:33 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> cloudflare
05:33 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> with signed ssl
05:33 PM roycroft: all i know is i went to visit your link and my browser blocked it and informed me that it uses a self-signed certificate
05:33 PM roycroft: i'm not going there
05:33 PM roycroft: not worth the risk
05:34 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> lol
05:34 PM Tom_L: i did get a warning on that one
05:34 PM roycroft: letsencrypt is free
05:34 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> LOL
05:34 PM roycroft: use that
05:34 PM Tom_L: does that work in hungary?
05:34 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> what?
05:35 PM Tom_L: letsencrypt
05:35 PM roycroft: it works all over the world, afaik
05:35 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> pretty sure not country based
05:35 PM roycroft: and sorry, i should not tell you what to do
05:35 PM roycroft: but, and not that i matter at all, i'll not ever be browsing your urls while you use self-signed certificates
05:35 PM JT-Shop: I should go and grind the prox target but I'm out of energy
05:36 PM roycroft: i'm likely not the only one, though
05:36 PM JT-Shop: I won't either
05:36 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> somehow nextcloud overwritting cf cert
05:37 PM roycroft: nextcloud has nothing to do with webserver configuration
05:39 PM roycroft: i sure hope you don't have your /ect/letsencrypt directory linked to a cloud server
05:44 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> roycroft: http://6-f.cc/nc/index.php/s/aYndBaJgK94WXcy
08:13 PM roycroft: so after reading the letter from my congressional rep, quoting exact passages from the no surpirses act (federal law), my health insurance company just told me again "you need to go have your procedure done, the care provider needs to submit the medical codes to us, and then we will tell you what we will cover, what we will not, and what your co-pay will be"
