01:01 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> moin
01:15 AM NetPipe: https://github.com/xcoder123/SvgToGcode https://github.com/holgafreak/svg2gcode https://github.com/pjpscriv/py-svg2gcode python version 3 different working versions
01:15 AM NetPipe: tested them myself
01:15 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> NetPipe: https://github.com/multigcs/viaconstructor
01:29 AM roycroft: irb
04:46 AM Tom_L: morning
04:55 AM JT-Cave: yuck 78f
05:17 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> Morning
05:31 AM Deejay: hi
06:50 AM JT-Cave: I wonder why debian only has 2.9.pre?
07:10 AM NetPipe: https://github.com/netpipe/GCODE-Tools/releases/download/mac/svg2gcode-qt.app.zip
07:10 AM NetPipe: https://github.com/netpipe/GCODE-Tools/tree/master/Engraver/svg2gcode-qt
07:11 AM NetPipe: frontend for existing tool
08:19 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> .le_potato@ PCW explains it better - but unless you have a really high accelleration macine - 2ms servo thread is fine. The following error during accelleration will be higher with slower servo threads. (and things like PID tuning for certain loops will be looser - like current loops) I think 🙂
08:26 AM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> Yes, but not for us
08:26 AM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> i mean on hobbycnc
09:06 AM NetPipe: oops had to reupload release, also wrote it into a qt app without the frontend.
09:56 AM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> skunkworks8841@ for pick and place, sure 🙂
10:10 AM rdtsc-w: hobby cnc can tolerate slow speeds, so a non-issue... if going into full shop-production mode, will likely get a bigger and better machine anyways
11:04 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> .le_potato@ https://libre.computer/products/aml-s905x-cc/ any relationship or just coincidence?
11:41 AM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> lolno
11:42 AM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> i made my own linuxpc with soc but this is definitly not me
12:33 PM roycroft: and the load on my imac just spiked to 689
12:33 PM roycroft: i think that's a record
12:33 PM roycroft: thanks, firefox!
12:39 PM rdtsc-w: It had to update rootkits and cookie-tracking technology
12:41 PM xxcoder: firefox is quite a lot less spyware than chrome
12:41 PM xxcoder: and I moved to waterfox to get even less
12:43 PM rdtsc-w: phones, with their pre-installed (and non-removable) apps are likely the worst offenders
12:44 PM xxcoder: apps can be disabled, if cant be removed
12:58 PM roycroft: i used to use tor browser, but it's so fripping slow these days it's almost totally useless
12:58 PM roycroft: but it's as anonymous as anonymous gets
12:59 PM xxcoder: you probably want to try waterfox
01:04 PM roycroft: i'll look into it
01:04 PM roycroft: is it compatible with firefox plugins?
01:05 PM roycroft: i have an anti-tracking and ad blocker plugin for firefox
01:05 PM roycroft: as well as the check4change plugin, which i don't really need that much any more, as i was using it for the festool recon site, and i'm pretty good on festool gear
01:08 PM roycroft: oh, and most important of all, i use the enpass plugin to access my passwords
01:10 PM xxcoder: yep it is compitable
01:10 PM xxcoder: I just copied my profile over and it works fine
01:20 PM roycroft: i'll give it a go
01:21 PM * Tom_L waits for roycroft's ok
01:22 PM roycroft: that may be a while
01:23 PM roycroft: i'd rather just use safari, but a lot of sites don't support it well any more
01:23 PM roycroft: although firefox support is becoming even worse
01:23 PM roycroft: it seems everyone wants people to use chrome
01:23 PM xxcoder: I use brave for chrome backup in rare cases I need to use that dont work in firefox type
01:24 PM xxcoder: brave sucks, but not as bad as chrome or chromium
01:24 PM xxcoder: once you disable some stuff anyway
01:27 PM roycroft: the enpass plugin loaded - whether it works or not i do not know yet
01:29 PM roycroft: and it does, so the browser is likely usable
01:29 PM roycroft: whether it's better than firefox or not, i do not yet know
01:29 PM xxcoder: yeah. I cant tell you that its useful, but its an alternative for you to try
01:29 PM xxcoder: id suggest try its default search
01:29 PM xxcoder: also
01:30 PM * Tom_L wonders when roycroft is gonna cut some chips
01:30 PM xxcoder: results is ok. I like how simple page is, reminds me of old timey google
01:30 PM xxcoder: no ai, no sales stuff
01:33 PM roycroft: ok, everything loads - all the extensions
01:33 PM roycroft: i'm going to cut some chips when the machine is ready to do so
01:33 PM roycroft: i started wiring up the back panel yesterday
01:33 PM roycroft: i'll do more of that today
01:34 PM roycroft: and i'll be cutting chips before the machine is done, but it will probably still be a few more days
01:34 PM roycroft: or making sawdust
01:34 PM roycroft: i'm not sure if i'll start with chips or sawdust
01:34 PM roycroft: we'll, i'll start with sharpie, of course
01:36 PM rdtsc-w: could cut a potato, fry the swarf with some salt, and literally eat the chips
01:37 PM roycroft: we used to dream of cutting potato
01:56 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> roycroft: how's the back coming along???
02:02 PM roycroft: rather well, thanks
02:03 PM roycroft: the soft tissue is slowly but progressively healing
02:03 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> hang in there....
02:03 PM roycroft: i'm always aware that i had recent back surgery, but i'm experiencing no pain
02:03 PM roycroft: i'll let you know how it's going again when i start work on my new shop roof
02:03 PM roycroft: there may be another story to tell then
02:04 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> stay off of ladders.....
02:04 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> and roofs
02:09 PM roycroft: i'll be doing plenty of ladder and roof stuff soon
02:17 PM roycroft: i just moved all my browser windows/tabs to waterfox, and with zero open windows/tabs, i tried to quit firefox
02:17 PM roycroft: it's driven the load up to 520 and still rising, just trying to quit
02:18 PM * roycroft does a force quit
02:26 PM roycroft: that's dead, the load is back to single digits, and waterfox is using <2% of cpu and only a few hundred MB of ram
02:27 PM roycroft: unlike firefox, which typically used close to 100% of cpu and several GB of ram for loading the same windows
02:27 PM roycroft: so far i'm liking this waterfox thing
02:27 PM xxcoder: thats odd, firefox was mostly ok for me. I switched due to dumb features firefox is planning to add
02:28 PM xxcoder: glad you like it tho
02:31 PM Tom_L: roycroft, all the same plugins work?
02:42 PM xxcoder: dunno about roy, but it certainly did for me
02:50 PM JT-Shop: hmm, how to install waterfox on debian?
02:51 PM xxcoder: I did it bit more manually
02:51 PM xxcoder: sudo mv waterfox /opt
02:51 PM xxcoder: sudo ln -s /opt/waterfox/waterfox /usr/local/bin/waterfox
02:52 PM JT-Shop: reading that now
02:52 PM xxcoder: thats all needed
02:52 PM xxcoder: I dont know if theres one in flatpak or whatever
02:52 PM JT-Shop: I don't use flatpak
02:52 PM xxcoder: I only use it for newsflash. no other option
02:53 PM JT-Shop: hmm you can add a gpg key and repository like I do with flex and mesact
02:54 PM xxcoder: yeah?
02:54 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> i wired lump oil today!
02:54 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> and it works nice
02:54 PM JT-Shop: https://linuxcapable.com/how-to-install-waterfox-browser-on-debian-linux/
02:55 PM xxcoder: oh nice
02:56 PM Tom_L: upgrade won't screw with the kernel will it?
02:58 PM roycroft: i installed it on my imac running macos
02:58 PM Tom_L: i'm not running the default kernel
02:59 PM roycroft: but if i decided it's my go-to browser i'll also install it on the linux workstations
03:02 PM xxcoder: did the repo add and are installing waterfox that way
03:06 PM xxcoder: thanks jt
03:12 PM xxcoder: sigh I hope someone recreates loadtabonselect or something. it does one thing and one thing very well
03:13 PM xxcoder: when theres new tab load, it makes it not load till you click on it. same if you reopen browser with tabs
03:14 PM Tom_L: https://github.com/a449707101729771095/LoadTabOnSelect
03:14 PM Tom_L: that looks pretty old
03:15 PM xxcoder: last update on my browser is april 2024
03:15 PM Tom_L: odd the copyright is updated
03:15 PM xxcoder: if its that old and still works very well, its probably fine for a while
03:16 PM Tom_L: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/loadtabonselect/
03:16 PM xxcoder: yep
03:18 PM xxcoder: Version 1.3resigned1
03:21 PM xxcoder: other one that have "resigned" is nuke anything
03:56 PM roycroft: the main extensions that i really need are enpass, privacy badger, and ublock origin
03:57 PM roycroft: and they are all working fine with waterfox
03:58 PM roycroft: i also use the multi-account containers extension a lot, but i could work around that if necessary
03:59 PM roycroft: i'm very often logged into the same site under multiple usernames, and multi-account containers facilitates that without having to use multiple browsers
04:26 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> roycroft: hey, have you tried the BRAVE browser ??
04:27 PM xxcoder: brave ehhh I use it as chrome alternative when I have to, but it kinda sucks
04:27 PM xxcoder: having to remove shitcoins and tokens crud was annoying
04:31 PM roycroft: i'vei have not
04:32 PM roycroft: i stick to the more common ones when i can
04:32 PM roycroft: so may vendor websites do not work well, and they won't even talk to me if i tell them i'm using an oddball browser
04:33 PM roycroft: i'll give waterfox a go for a while
04:33 PM roycroft: maybe i'll check out brave later if i decide waterfox is not what i need
04:34 PM xxcoder: im pretty sure you will like it. I like it so far after couple weeks
04:34 PM xxcoder: I also use brave, but only for one messaging program most times, and once a while for site that refuse to work with firefox type browser
04:34 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> in Brave, you can open a private window with TOR
04:36 PM xxcoder: in any case, only you know what you like or not, roy. and I wouldnt worry if you didnt like waterfox. changes nothing for me unless you find some massive issue lol
04:36 PM JT-Shop: so far the only annoying thing is all the sponsored results from a search in waterfox
04:37 PM JT-Shop: is there a way to turn that off?
04:37 PM xxcoder: startpage?
04:37 PM xxcoder: I dont see any sponsored stuff
04:37 PM roycroft: it's mozilla-based, so you should be able to choose whatever search engine you wish
04:37 PM roycroft: it may just have a bad default
04:37 PM JT-Shop: no, if I type something like sampson boat co in the url bar a bunch of sponsored ads show up
04:38 PM roycroft: i set mine to duckduckgo right away
04:38 PM xxcoder: oh yeah thats definitely can turn off
04:38 PM roycroft: but it has its own called startpage
04:38 PM xxcoder: its been a while since then tho so I cant remember setting
04:38 PM xxcoder: roy its browser thing not which search
04:38 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> I use DDG also
04:38 PM roycroft: which i did not bother trying out, because i like duckduckgo
04:39 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> almost exclusively
04:39 PM xxcoder: I used ddg for a bit but I like startpage so far. simple
04:39 PM roycroft: except when it doesn't go, like the other day :)
04:39 PM roycroft: wednesday last
04:39 PM roycroft: it was duckduckstop for a while
04:40 PM xxcoder: JT-Shop: maybe "search suggestions"
04:43 PM xxcoder: my about:config has browser.urlbar.suggest.quicksuggest.sponsored to false
04:45 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> I go through the browser setting carefully and turn off as much as possible..... and keep everything as private as possible
04:45 PM xxcoder: im less concerned about privacy
04:45 PM xxcoder: annoyances, however..
04:49 PM JT-Shop: yea that is false for me too
04:50 PM JT-Shop: https://ibb.co/RGHnYQr8
04:50 PM Tom_L: i went to a local trash service because i didn't like the service from a conglomerate to have them get bought out by the conglomerate i hate
04:51 PM Tom_L: can't friggin win
04:51 PM JT-Shop: my trash service is a guy in a pickup truck with a big rack on the back
04:52 PM Tom_L: they'll wait a year or so and jack the rates up 2x like they did previously
04:52 PM Tom_L: i had another small company prior that they also purchased
04:52 PM roycroft: i have a choice of the local refuse company or the local refuse company
04:53 PM Tom_L: this is likely a nation wide business
04:53 PM xxcoder: weird https://ibb.co/KxP4NtpF
04:53 PM xxcoder: I dont get any
04:53 PM roycroft: but i'm lucky - many towns the size of mine have no option at all excapt hauling to the nearest transfer center
04:53 PM roycroft: there is also a transfer center just outside of town
04:53 PM roycroft: and again, many towns my size do not have one anywhere near them
04:54 PM roycroft: we have recycling pickup along with trash pickup, which is good
04:54 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> no option here. we're required to use the service contracted by the county
04:56 PM JT-Shop: xxcoder, weird... did you install an ad block?
04:56 PM xxcoder: oh JT-Shop seems ublock origin blocks it
04:57 PM JT-Shop: ah ok
04:58 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> in Firefox, I use Privacy Badger, Facebook Container, and uBlock Origin
04:58 PM JT-Shop: yup that fixed that, thanks
04:58 PM xxcoder: welcome
04:58 PM JT-Shop: what is privacy badger?
04:59 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> blocks trackers and shit
04:59 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Roy mentioned it also
04:59 PM roycroft: yes, it is essential
04:59 PM roycroft: it blocks trackers
05:00 PM xxcoder: my plugins: dark mode, enchancer for youtube, facebook container, firefox color, password manager plugin, loadtabonselect, noscript, nuke anything, ruffle, social fixer for facebook, ublock orgin
05:00 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> roycroft: I have a new router showing up in a bit. a pretty high level Asus..... not a gamer though
05:02 PM xxcoder: added that bager one
05:04 PM BorgPipe_: https://i.imgur.com/6oWd6th.jpeg my first engraving
05:04 PM xxcoder: little bit of tearout, but looks nice
05:04 PM roycroft: and remember, the same people who say "i don't care about being tracked. i do nothing wrong. i have nothing to hide." are the ones who say "if someone is arrested they must have done something wrong"
05:05 PM BorgPipe_ is now known as NetPipe
05:05 PM roycroft: faulty logic on both parts
05:05 PM xxcoder: roy I have something to hide. everyone does
05:05 PM JT-Shop: just ask Ruben Carter
05:05 PM xxcoder: people who think they got nothing to hide is a fool
05:05 PM NetPipe: my new svg2gcode program works good :)
05:06 PM JT-Shop: I want to hide all my personal information
05:06 PM roycroft: some people really do not have anything that they should need to hide
05:06 PM NetPipe: i have pocketing code ready too for circle and raster
05:06 PM xxcoder: each time someone says that, I ask them for their ss number
05:06 PM xxcoder: suddenly, they have something to hide
05:07 PM roycroft: nice, roguish
05:07 PM xxcoder: its annoying when someone think hiding is by default, criminal action.
05:07 PM JT-Shop: I had to fill out a W-9 for a job I did but I refused to email it because it contained sensitive information
05:07 PM xxcoder: hiding something*
05:08 PM roycroft: this is a big difference between me and my boss
05:08 PM roycroft: he thinks i should be a "libertarian" like he is because i don't trust government
05:08 PM roycroft: but the difference between us (well, one of the differences) is that i also don't trust corporations and he does
05:09 PM roycroft: i trust my close friends, and i believe in science
05:10 PM JT-Shop: my trust has to be earned...
05:10 PM roycroft: my friends do not become close unless they have earned my trust
05:10 PM roycroft: so yes
05:11 PM roycroft: work day is done
05:11 PM roycroft: i am kind of bummed about the cnc controller
05:12 PM Tom_L: why?
05:12 PM roycroft: i mangled one of the aviation connectors yesterday - one of the pins moved out of place while i was soldering a wire to it
05:12 PM xxcoder: curious on that also
05:12 PM Tom_L: i maybe missed why.. didn't read all ^^
05:12 PM roycroft: i've never had that happen before with an aviation connector
05:12 PM roycroft: i wonder if some of them have a cheaper plastic pin holder that melts at a really low temperature
05:13 PM roycroft: the problem is that i don't have any spares with that pin count, so i had to order some more, and they won't be here until later this week
05:13 PM xxcoder: doh not great
05:13 PM roycroft: no
05:13 PM roycroft: i have enough to get all three axes wired up
05:13 PM xxcoder: any progress on rpm
05:14 PM roycroft: i can repurpose the one for the limit switches for now, and replace that when the shipment arrives
05:14 PM roycroft: no
05:14 PM roycroft: i was getting frustrated with it and decided to move on to wiring up the back panel for a bit
05:14 PM xxcoder: you can reuse those connectors bars that was for steppers if still have
05:14 PM Tom_L: new turnpike sticker mounted after getting new glass
05:14 PM roycroft: also, once i get the back panel wired up, all i have to do is replace the cables on the machine and then i can start using it
05:14 PM xxcoder: if need to test limit switches before connectors arrive
05:15 PM roycroft: i can use the machine without limit switches for now
05:15 PM roycroft: and without an encoder
05:15 PM roycroft: i can estimate speed to get started
05:15 PM xxcoder: true. manual home worked for me also
05:15 PM roycroft: i actually never need an encoder
05:15 PM roycroft: because i never have to know exactly how fast the spindle is turning
05:15 PM roycroft: i just need to know what speed setting works for an operation
05:16 PM xxcoder: likely only used for lower rpm, for pid
05:16 PM Tom_L: unless you cut something chipload sensitive
05:16 PM roycroft: tom_l: when i do that, which i antipcate doing, i can estimate how fast the spindle will be turning
05:17 PM roycroft: and as is the case with almost every machining operation, calculating and setting feeds and speeds is just to get one in the ballpark
05:17 PM roycroft: every machine is different and behaves differently
05:17 PM roycroft: you get close by calculating, and then you tweak for optimal performance
05:17 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> roycroft: I use an external encoder on my spindle, for PID, and for rigid tapping
05:17 PM roycroft: i will be doing no rigid tapping
05:18 PM Tom_L: you should be fine
05:18 PM roycroft: pid would be nice, as the spindle slows down as it's loaded
05:18 PM xxcoder: yeah that cnc router, I'd use thread mill if ever
05:18 PM roycroft: and i do plan on getting the encoder working
05:18 PM Tom_L: i used my sherline for years with the pot on the controller
05:18 PM roycroft: i'm just saying that for right now i can start using it without that
05:18 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> spindle PID works good. it's a double PID. the VFD and linuxcnc
05:18 PM roycroft: my spindle is a brushed dc motor
05:19 PM roycroft: no vfd there
05:19 PM xxcoder: his would be purely linuxcnc pid yeah
05:19 PM roycroft: i'll be using linuxcnc for my pid, once i have a working encoder
05:19 PM Tom_L: i set that up on the sherline DC motor
05:19 PM Tom_L: also added a reverse
05:19 PM JT-Shop: the 7i96s has hardware pid for the spindle
05:19 PM Tom_L: that's handy
05:19 PM roycroft: i'm looking at the critical path for making chips/sawdust
05:20 PM roycroft: so as soon as i have the encoder working the 7i96s can handle the speed control
05:20 PM JT-Shop: this heat really turns the git up and go to sit and slow
05:20 PM Tom_L: no kidding
05:21 PM Tom_L: i haven't been out much today and it was short trips when i did
05:21 PM roycroft: anyway, right now the critical path is to wire up the other two stepper motor outputs on the back panel, wire from the mesa board to the drivers, and install the new cables to the machine motors and terminate them with avaiation connectors on the ends
05:21 PM JT-Shop: I feel like I made good progress today despite the heat
05:21 PM roycroft: once those things are done i can start using the machine
05:21 PM Tom_L: that's a win
05:21 PM xxcoder: nice jt roy
05:21 PM roycroft: i have a bunch of calibration work to do, but that should not take too long
05:22 PM roycroft: it's only 21 here today - unseasonably cool :)
05:22 PM JT-Shop: when I built the plasma table it was as basic as it could be to make sparks
05:22 PM xxcoder: shouldnt be yeah. all my troubles was from way underpowered 24v psu
05:22 PM roycroft: but the studio where the controller is located is the same temperature as it is when it's 355
05:22 PM roycroft: 35, rather
05:22 PM roycroft: i have two 48v psus now that should make everything go *vrooooom*
05:23 PM roycroft: so i think i'll go try to solder up those other two connectors without melting anything
05:23 PM roycroft: i have five new connectors on the way, but 1. i don't want to have to wait for them, and 2. i don't want to spoil any more - it's not a good use of my money
05:24 PM xxcoder: lol indeed. you still have those strip connectors if have to, those is rated for way above machine needs
05:28 PM * JT-Shop will be so glad to deliver the surface grinder to Empire
05:28 PM xxcoder: Vadar thanks you
05:33 PM JT-Shop: I've been trying to get Han Solo to come and help but he won't answer his communicator
05:33 PM xxcoder: aw. kossel run maybe
05:37 PM xxcoder: man just read about someone wearing 20 pound chain around neck. he went to mri and mri killed him
05:37 PM xxcoder: when will people ever learn? I remember 2023 lawyer getting shot by mri pulling his hidden gun trigger
05:38 PM JT-Shop: gold chain?
05:38 PM xxcoder: apparently not no
05:38 PM xxcoder: weight training chain
05:38 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> mri machines are giant magnets
05:38 PM JT-Shop: you would think that the operator would ask...
05:39 PM xxcoder: on lawyer? he was asked and all, he removed everything but the gun
05:39 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> there's usually signs all over too
05:39 PM xxcoder: ah chain guy didnt, he just entered room without permission
05:39 PM JT-Shop: oh well he was removed from the gene pool
05:39 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Darwin award
05:43 PM xxcoder: it can take a instant of error. thats all it needs
06:08 PM * JT-Shop calls it a night
06:09 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> hasn't even hit 70 yet
06:09 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> just got a movie date for Wed evening
06:29 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/6b7oJz4DP7zW2D6j6
06:29 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Just a little welding needed
06:37 PM roycroft: those mri rooms usually have double doors, with a chamber in between the doors
06:37 PM roycroft: there should be metal detectors installed in that chamber
06:38 PM roycroft: and the inner door should be locked and an attendant can only release the lock once the person wanting to enter has gone through the metal detector
06:38 PM roycroft: this was not the first time someone was killed by an mri machine
06:38 PM xxcoder: nor last
06:39 PM roycroft: and at the cost of those things the cost of a metal detection system is a fraction of a percent
06:39 PM roycroft: asking questions is not good enough
06:40 PM roycroft: people are stupid and people lie
06:40 PM roycroft: go into the antechamber
06:40 PM roycroft: a wand-type metal detector would be fine
06:40 PM roycroft: wand the person thoroughly from head to toe
06:41 PM roycroft: then and only then unlock the door to the mri chamber
06:41 PM xxcoder: thats cheapest option honestly, and easy
06:41 PM roycroft: that's pretty simple and should prevent about 100% of these incidents
06:42 PM roycroft: you can buy a good metal detector wand for a couple hundred dollars at harbor freight, so a medical one should be less than $15k, i should think
06:42 PM roycroft: which will be almost exactly the same thing as the harbor freight one
06:42 PM roycroft: an mri machine costs between $500k and $5 million
06:43 PM roycroft: that extra $15k would not be noticed
06:43 PM roycroft: and you can even throw in a couple thousand for the electronic lock on the inner doofr
06:43 PM roycroft: still won't be noticed
06:43 PM xxcoder: indeed
06:44 PM roycroft: when i broke my back i was unconscious when they did the mri
06:44 PM roycroft: so they must have searched me somehow
06:45 PM roycroft: i had a hospital gown on, so no pockets, but i did have my glasses on going in and a silver pendant around my neck
06:45 PM roycroft: neither of which are magnetic, but they probably removed the stuff anyway
06:57 PM NetPipe: https://netpipe.ca/?page_id=7918 updated page with working engraving + apps
06:57 PM NetPipe: easy 3018 milling

07:17 PM Tom_L: skunkworks, i see the one you tried bending
07:19 PM Tom_L: i made a bending tool for some tabs and found T6 material needed to be annealed or it would sometimes crack
07:20 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A9_New/MODS/fixture/A9_Fixture11.jpg

07:20 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A9_New/MODS/fixture/A9_Fixture22.jpg
07:21 PM Tom_L: his material was softer than mine but i had sent him a few parts he had to anneal the tab end
07:24 PM Tom_L: i see what your slots were for now
07:26 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> that was cold.. I might have had better luck hot.. I think welding will be easier - (plus I don;t think I could get 2 90deg bend with my setup
07:26 PM Tom_L: you have enough clearance inside for a bolt head?
07:26 PM Tom_L: it looks pretty tight
07:26 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> (and I was probably going to weld the the bent ones anyway
07:27 PM Tom_L: the cut one will be cleaner
07:27 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yes - there is about 3/4" between the plate and the joint
07:27 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> the head is only 1/2 thick
07:28 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> *head of the lag bolt
07:28 PM Tom_L: right
07:28 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> so that gives me a washer if I want plus 1/8 clearance
07:30 PM Tom_L: prior to the press, he was beating those over with a hammer :)
07:30 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol - That is how I started..
07:32 PM Tom_L: i cleaned up some of the dimensions after the pics and it worked alot smoother not scraping the side of the tab etc
07:55 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol - definatly spray arcing.. have not used this welder before
07:56 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I should go get the gun off the other welder
07:59 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> probably be ok for a tree house
08:00 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> good penitration...
08:11 PM roycroft: all the motor connections are wired to the back panel now
08:12 PM roycroft: that took a long time, because i wanted to test the first connection before soldering up the others
08:12 PM roycroft: and i really haven't calibrated the motion control system at all
08:12 PM roycroft: i thought it wasn't working because i'd go to move the x axis and it did not appear to move
08:13 PM roycroft: it was moving, but tiny bits, and i was at an angle where i could not see the movement
08:13 PM roycroft: so lots of wasted time troubleshooting something that wasn't broken
08:22 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Don't look at it too close.. I have to do some test welding...
08:22 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/oBF96jNmNKhyZHzZ8
08:22 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> But you could probably hang a truck from it
08:23 PM roycroft: well if it is intended to hold your kids up in the air it probably should be strong enough to hang a truck from it
08:25 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> agreed
08:26 PM * roycroft does not take too kindly people's treehouses full of kids falling down
08:26 PM roycroft: best to not do that
08:27 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> no.. the ex doesn't need any more ammo...
08:34 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> but - really - it would just fall strait down... Like 20ft.. maybe only a broken leg or two...
08:37 PM roycroft: it would depend in part on the structural integrity of the treehouse
08:38 PM roycroft: if it came apart as a result of the fall the children could be seriously hurt by falling timbers
08:38 PM roycroft: but since your plan is for it not to fall, that's not really an issue
08:39 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I think that is always the plan for a tree house
08:45 PM roycroft: amongst the group of rational people, yes
08:45 PM roycroft: but that is not an all-inclusive group
08:50 PM fluffywolf: when I was a puppy, I built all my own treehouses. with a handsaw and a hammer. this whole parents-using-machine-tools thing is weird. :P
08:52 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I want it to be a nice cool place to hang out... Plus safe
08:54 PM Tom_L: lookin good
08:55 PM fluffywolf: brb
09:12 PM roycroft: we used to also not have seat belts in cars
09:12 PM roycroft: and a lot of people died in crashes that would not have died if they were wearing a seat belt
09:12 PM roycroft: it's called "progress"
09:13 PM roycroft: we learn from and build upon our past
09:13 PM roycroft: and do things differently (and hopefully better) than we used to
10:01 PM xxcoder: whew finally caught up on chores I had been ignoring
