12:07 AM BorgPipe is now known as NetPipe
01:14 AM Deejay: moin
02:02 AM NetPipe: https://github.com/netpipe/QInstall/ has fresh macos release but is also crossplatform
02:03 AM NetPipe: might work good for sending eachother files
05:23 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> Morning
08:28 AM rdtsc_ is now known as rdtsc
08:29 AM rdtsc is now known as rdtsc_
10:47 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/DvJqJjHZUZLUZ7np6
10:47 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> think it might work
10:48 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> (it will be sunk in deeper on the tree.
10:50 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/VHcdRGzZH3Erm9YT6
11:44 AM firephoto__ is now known as firephoto_
12:10 PM xxcoder: interesting
12:10 PM xxcoder: I guess you will use tar to protect tree?
12:10 PM xxcoder: 70f in 10 am, gonna be a fun day
12:11 PM xxcoder: not as fun as wed and thurs, both at 90f+
12:36 PM lfluffywof is now known as fluffwolf
12:36 PM fluffwolf is now known as fluffywolf
01:24 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> from what I undestand is the tree will seal the wound pretty quickly
01:30 PM JT-Shop: you putting treehouse master tabs in the tree?
01:32 PM xxcoder: yeah though if I recall right, tar is best for short term protection
01:34 PM xxcoder: hmmm https://www.lawnstarter.com/blog/tree-care/tree-pruning-sealer-bad-idea/
01:34 PM xxcoder: sounds like my recall was obselete
01:35 PM JT-Shop: if the tab is a tight fit nothing is needed
01:36 PM xxcoder: seems its best to serilize the cutting tools in ipa
01:36 PM JT-Shop: or give the cutter plenty of ipa
01:37 PM Tom_L: the few i've pruned have sealed over without any help
01:38 PM xxcoder: seems oak is exception, but just paint and let it fade out. due to oak wilt being everywhere
01:39 PM xxcoder: must be special paint
01:46 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yes - the main beams and struts have the 2 inch bushing that should support a car..
01:47 PM xxcoder: yeah not worried about ability to support, but tree staying alive :D
01:47 PM xxcoder: seems in most cases its not a concern
01:49 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> the tree house guys just use wd40 to help the lags go in..
01:49 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> but -the hole really are all but plugged with the rod/lag/bushing assemblies.
01:53 PM JT-Shop: the main thing is to leave room for the tree to grow
02:06 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yes - that is what the spacers are for.. Should give me quite a few years of groath
02:06 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> growth
02:08 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://www.youtube.com/shorts/dkw6hOAXicA
02:09 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> 200 rpm - no back gear.. 7/8 drill
02:09 PM JT-Shop: cool
02:09 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> the drive retrofit has been great
02:10 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I need a big drill sharpener.. doing it by hand gets old
02:49 PM fluffywolf: I've tried a couple drill sharpeners (drill doctor, etc), and none of them were even acceptable, much less good.
02:51 PM xxcoder: I saw quite a bunch of them in yt and many is pretty fiddy
02:51 PM fluffywolf: I can only imagine they must work for some very specific helix angle, flute shape, etc, but in my experience with pull-a-random-bit-out-of-my-bit-pile bits, none of them managed to produce acceptable geometry without more manual effort than a trip to the bench grinder would take.
02:52 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> up to about 3/8 I have had ok luck with a drill dr...
02:53 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> but I have drills up to 2+ inches
02:53 PM fluffywolf: the biggest issue I had was no or not enough relief angle, so they'd just sit there and spin even with a sharp edge.
02:53 PM xxcoder: one that seemed best one to me, not that I tried any, ad collets for each specific drill size
02:54 PM fluffywolf: or stupid crap like sharpening to a pencil point with no chisel, or a chisel half the width of the bit, ...
02:54 PM xxcoder: *had
02:54 PM fluffywolf: I think they're super sensitive to the exact shape of the flutes and web, and just fail if used with random bits.
02:55 PM fluffywolf: I have been very tempted to write a little program where I stick the bit in my rotary table and a grinding wheel in the spindle, and it puts fancy grinds on them...
02:56 PM xxcoder: cnc grinder sounds great
02:57 PM fluffywolf: then not only can it do intelligent relief angles, it can do pilot points and all sorts of things.
02:57 PM fluffywolf: ... while ruining all my ways with grinding dust.
02:57 PM xxcoder: yeah I would suggest seperate special machine for that
02:58 PM xxcoder: 3d printer type frame would work, as I think it would have virtually no sideload
02:58 PM xxcoder: fix the grinder, have all 3 axis movement on holder for drill
02:58 PM xxcoder: 4th axis to rotate the drill
02:58 PM xxcoder: so essentally xyzc
03:00 PM fluffywolf: do you need all four when you have cnc, and can make a slope by interpolating two axes instead of having to angle the drill bit flush with the wheel?
03:01 PM fluffywolf: actually, I guess my question is wrong. it's that you need four, not five. lol
03:02 PM xxcoder: only 2 axis is critical, z and c I would say. xy is only positioning so zero is in center of drill
03:06 PM fluffywolf: well, you definitely need three... and four lets you not use the corner of the wheel for everything.
03:07 PM xxcoder: I would have it in large enclosure so it can use coolant a lot
03:08 PM xxcoder: enough to make water hose feel shame
03:08 PM fluffywolf: software that people can use with whatever mill they have is probably a lot more useful. heh.
03:08 PM xxcoder: yeah
03:09 PM fluffywolf: or lathe, with a toolpost grinder and spindle encoder...
03:09 PM xxcoder: specialized machine is interesting though, expecially if can generalize to endmill grinding too
03:09 PM fluffywolf: specialized machines already exist. lol
03:10 PM xxcoder: and extremely pricy yeah. thats why I was wondering about possibility of homebrew design lol
03:10 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nI9n_Mudyg
03:11 PM xxcoder: ah yes I remember that
03:11 PM fluffywolf: LOL! the description of https://www.amazon.com/MRCM-Sharpeners-Grinding-machine-sharpener/dp/B0B2P7Y37T calls it a "Portable idiot end mill sharpener"
03:13 PM fluffywolf: I have a drill doctor. it's on a shelf somewhere in my greenhouse, because it didn't earn being brought back into the house.
03:15 PM fluffywolf: I also have one that's yellow, one that's red, and a jig for a bench grinder, and probably one or two more I've bought at yard sales and forgot about...
03:17 PM fluffywolf: the first thing he mentions in that video is how sensitive it is to the thickness of the web... that's my experience as I said above, they're super picky about the bits.
03:18 PM xxcoder: I randomly clicked around and one of issues is it dont form proper cutting center, and lack of relief
03:19 PM fluffywolf: hey, that's the exact things I complained about above! :P
03:20 PM xxcoder: yeah sounds like fail of a product
03:20 PM fluffywolf: but it's not just drill doctor. it's every one I've tried.
03:22 PM fluffywolf: I suck at hand grinding, so I've tried buying every design I've seen cheap...
03:24 PM fluffywolf: that video recommends a vevor one. I might need to pick one up.
03:29 PM xxcoder: not too expensive compared to doc
03:31 PM fluffywolf: bbl, need to get outside things done.
03:49 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:35 PM xxcoder: interesting. https://youtu.be/cmRGhoF_ZEM
04:35 PM xxcoder: new motor type
05:01 PM JT-Shop: lol I got a putube warning from that video about ad blockers
05:14 PM xxcoder: wird
05:14 PM xxcoder: *weird
05:24 PM JT-Shop: it said I could only watch 3 more videos then I'll be blocked
05:25 PM Tom_L: better make em count
05:25 PM xxcoder: what browser you using?
05:25 PM xxcoder: I just switched to waterfox
05:25 PM JT-Shop: firefox
05:25 PM xxcoder: perfect and cool during summer ;)
05:26 PM JT-Shop: I did get the solenoid off the 310a
05:26 PM Tom_L: and?
05:26 PM JT-Shop: and it's hot so I'm taking a break
05:27 PM xxcoder: 86f here. fun lol
05:27 PM xxcoder: ac is working, but had to set it to 80f due to limits on power
05:27 PM JT-Shop: I tried jumping the coil and nothing happened so I'll ohm it out in a bit
05:28 PM xxcoder: 80f is livable so its fine
05:28 PM JT-Shop: limits from the county or city?
05:28 PM xxcoder: 20 amp extension cord lol
05:28 PM JT-Shop: understand that
05:29 PM xxcoder: recently upgraded from 15amp orange cable, even with 20a plug ac was still too much
05:29 PM JT-Shop: how many amps does the ac draw?
05:29 PM xxcoder: now its much better
05:30 PM xxcoder: not too sure actually
05:30 PM xxcoder: its high enough for voltage to go down from 120v to 110v
05:30 PM Tom_L: should be on a nameplate somewhere
05:30 PM JT-Shop: ah yup voltage drop can kill things
05:31 PM xxcoder: yeah. before it would go to 90v which blows breaker lol
05:32 PM JT-Shop: you have 240v supply?
05:35 PM xxcoder: yeah but too far for cable. dont have money dor much more expensive cable
05:37 PM xxcoder: paid 40 for that 20a cable
05:37 PM xxcoder: 50 feet
05:37 PM JT-Shop: that's a good price for a 50' 20a cord
05:38 PM xxcoder: yeah. theres 30a ones near that price but I have hard time trusting that
05:38 PM JT-Shop: if it sounds too good to be true it probably is
05:38 PM Tom_L: heh
05:39 PM xxcoder: yeah. 20a is borderline as it is. its fine, I only need it for couple months
05:41 PM xxcoder: I see $150 usual price for 50 feet 30amp, so $50 for one is pretty sus lol. I mean, its probably 10a cables inside 30a looking coating
05:42 PM JT-Shop: yup
05:42 PM Tom_L: the gage should be molded on the jacket
05:42 PM JT-Shop: on good wire yeah
05:43 PM xxcoder: im just glad one I got (20a cable) seems to be improvement anyway. I see quite large improvement on voltage
05:43 PM xxcoder: microwave used to get it down to 106v, now 114v
05:43 PM JT-Shop: if you lived in swamp east missouri I'd give you some 6-4 SO that I have left over from a water plant job
05:44 PM JT-Shop: Cape Rock water treatment plant I helped build 15-20 years ago
05:46 PM JT-Shop: when I played as an electrician the motto for temp lights was keep putting them on until the breaker trips then take one off
05:46 PM xxcoder: hah lol
05:49 PM JT-Shop: https://www.cityofcapegirardeau.org/departments/public_works/Water/water_treatment
05:49 PM xxcoder: wow guy in project millenium mill got his vfd unit get on fire
05:49 PM Tom_L: they just built a new water treatment plant here
05:50 PM JT-Shop: cape rock was a cluster fuck from the git go
05:50 PM Tom_L: 120 million gallons per day
05:51 PM Tom_L: the bill went up accordingly too
05:55 PM JT-Shop: my daughter sauteed some shrimp thursday that were real good
05:56 PM xxcoder: nice. I am definitely making something cold for dinner today lol
05:56 PM xxcoder: probably pototo salad burrito. ran out of sour cream but it should be fine
05:56 PM JT-Shop: yup when it's hot cold food and cold showers are nice
05:57 PM JT-Shop: hmm the deer are back
05:57 PM Tom_L: fun
05:58 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I asked the kids what they wanted for supper and the daughter said - drive in.. Sounded good to me.. they have good burgers and home made rootbeer
05:59 PM JT-Shop: good rootbeer is nice
05:59 PM xxcoder: hot food without pumping heat into your home
05:59 PM Tom_L: chicken alfredo, potatoe salad
06:00 PM JT-Shop: taco's here
06:00 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/K5dG153uayta7FHa9
06:00 PM xxcoder: steam model?
06:00 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yes - something my dad and uncles had when they were little
06:04 PM * JT-Shop calls it a night
06:04 PM xxcoder: thats cool. blondihack recently restored one
06:04 PM xxcoder: some parts recreated due to being too destroyed but yeah
06:06 PM xxcoder: I would guess yours was either luxurity version, or later version
06:06 PM xxcoder: bronze got too expensive
06:08 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> no clue.. oh - a wiki #35 1934–1960
06:08 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> so quite a date range
06:09 PM xxcoder: yeah. tank being steel is pretty interesting
06:11 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> pretty sure it is plated
06:12 PM xxcoder: if its same inside, probably bronze, protected from water damage?
06:12 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yah - magnet doesn't stick to it.
06:13 PM Tom_L: heh.. maybe it's SS :)
06:14 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> definatly not.. 🙂
06:14 PM xxcoder: wouldnt that be bit too expensive then>
06:14 PM Tom_L: jk from yesterday's magnetics testing
06:14 PM xxcoder: ah lol
07:24 PM xxcoder: it was quite nice and cool meal.
09:00 PM xxcoder: outside air is FINALLY cooler. so turned it off and opened windows lol
09:00 PM xxcoder: the ac
09:19 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Wonder what roycroft has been up to
09:19 PM xxcoder: working at camp event
09:19 PM xxcoder: will be back next weekend I think
09:20 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Ah. Forgot about that
09:25 PM Tom_L: annual fair i think
