12:23 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> moin
01:00 AM Deejay: moin
04:16 AM Tom_L: morning
05:01 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> Morning
07:09 AM rdtsc-w: happy 2pm to all UTC+2 friends
08:56 AM JT-Cave: 33 percent of all refrigerators require repairs by the end of their fifth year of ownership
08:59 AM JT-Cave: so I guess it's just a crap shoot
09:14 AM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
09:14 AM JT-Cave: I didn't even know Bosch made refrigerators
09:17 AM JT-Cave: our kenmore 22 is 38 years old and has never missed a beat
09:19 AM roycroft: there are refrigerators 100 years old that still work and have had minimal maintenance
09:19 AM roycroft: they used to last decades, easily
09:19 AM roycroft: i agree that these days, 5 years is a good run on a fridge
09:20 AM roycroft: but the old ones never told you you were low on peanut butter
09:21 AM * roycroft would rather have the fridge last longer and figure out his grocery list himself
09:23 AM fluffywolf: from that one line, I'm going to deduce we're discussing AI-powered smart fridges that monitor what's in your fridge, how often you use it, etc, and then order more than you need of an advertiser's product instead of what you use, delivered by the most expensive service they can find? :P
09:26 AM roycroft: that seems to be the primary feature folks want in a refrigerator these days
09:27 AM fluffywolf: I have a fridge that still uses R-12.
09:31 AM roycroft: there's nothing wrong with r-12 these days, because anything that has it is not going to leak it out at this point - the integrity of the coolant lines has stood the test of time
09:31 AM fluffywolf: I'm using that to describe how old and non-AI-powered it is. :)
09:32 AM * fluffywolf does not want "smart" things
09:32 AM * JT-Shop didn't even know the LG had blewteeth
09:33 AM JT-Shop: until I tried to figure out what was wrong
09:34 AM fluffywolf: I had to replace the thermostat in mine a few years back. The entire wiring in the fridge consists of a thermostat, the compressor, a 12v transformer, a switch, and a light bulb. why they use a 12v light bulb, I do not know.
09:47 AM roycroft: hmm
09:47 AM roycroft: as of last night the forecast was sunny and dry for the forseeable future
09:47 AM roycroft: right now the sky is overcast
09:48 AM roycroft: and this morning's forecast, while still calling for a close to 0% chance of precipitation for the forseeable future, shows 100% cloud cover both here and at the fair until this afternoon
09:48 AM roycroft: as long as it doesn't rain that will be fine
09:48 AM roycroft: it will make the drive more pleasant
09:51 AM Tom_L: JT-Shop, Bosch is expanding. they just purchased the company my kid works at and it's huge itself
09:52 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/6ZEoMThoW6Z7rrSX8
09:53 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I had some well problems.. but - all good and a new pressure tank!
09:54 AM Tom_L: something rubbed it the wrong way
09:54 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yes - 3 of the wires.
09:55 AM Tom_L: i helped a friend pull his well a while back to find a split in the pipe halfway down
09:55 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> there was a slight bend in the tube at the bottom by the pump - it must have rubbed against the casing from the pump torque start.
09:55 AM Tom_L: we both thought that was real unusual
09:55 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> odd.
09:56 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> It was amplified by the pressure tank that I don't think has worked in ages.. So the pump was cycling a lot;
09:56 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> was it steel or plastic pipe?
09:57 AM Tom_L: plastic
09:59 AM * JT-Shop takes 5 before resuming weed wacking
10:00 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> odd
10:01 AM fluffywolf: submersible well pumps can produce insane pressure if deadheaded... a sticky pressure switch will pop something somewhere unless a relief valve is installed and not corroded closed...
10:01 AM * JT-Shop has still not figured out why the backhoe won't turn over
10:02 AM fluffywolf: I know why my loader won't turn over! ... I slagged the starter motor using it to back it out of a bush when it wouldn't start and the bush was keeping me from getting to the motor to poke at it.
10:17 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> JT-Shop: How old?
10:17 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Could the starter just be warn out?
10:17 AM JT-Shop: the LG is 4 years old
10:19 AM JT-Shop: the jd 310a doesn't even click, I replaced the key switch but something is funky with the voltage so I need to clean up on the starter side so I can test the solenoid
10:20 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I just had to rebuild the starter on the IH - the comutator was pretty bad and the brushes where too short
10:24 AM Tom_L: seems something is always falling apart on a homeowner's home
10:25 AM JT-Shop: after I test the solenoid if that doesn't work I'll take the starter off
10:25 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yah - the pump house needs to be worked on..
10:26 AM JT-Shop: I'm in the middle of some deck repairs but it's too hot to work on that
10:27 AM JT-Shop: daughter is coming up from Tx today
10:31 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> JT-Shop: how was the ride ?
11:35 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> I survived
11:37 AM Tom_L: super
11:41 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> do you get to keep whatever they took out?
11:44 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> The green machine has been running with no errors.. I forgot left it on. 1kz rpi5
11:45 AM Tom_L: that's good news
11:59 AM Tom_L: skunkworks, still have the oddball heatsink? was it running warm?
12:05 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> for the pi4?
12:07 PM rdtsc-w: congrats cap'n; now rest up and get well
12:08 PM Tom_L: no the pi5 on the green machine
12:09 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> That one has a fan and the case touches the big silicon. I have not tried the one I just got with the big heatsink over the other chips.
12:09 PM Tom_L: ahh
12:46 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> installed inventor but static stress and fluid analyze is cloud based...
12:49 PM xxcoder: rest well capt
12:49 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> ah, CFD is different software now from autodesk
12:50 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> for 8k/year
12:56 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> they removed STL import as well...
12:57 PM xxcoder: pay more for less it sounds like
02:08 PM JT-Shop: and the repair man was actually on the way today but it's too late
02:23 PM JT-Shop: well it didn't take long to give away a cattle panel to someone in the neighborhood fb group
02:31 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> could I get someone local to clean out all of the slate? roofing tiles piled in the yard?
02:31 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> and pay me>
02:31 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> 😉
02:33 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I would think someone would want them..
02:33 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/6B48cVrTRBHW9RT99
02:33 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> no clue why or where dad got them
02:33 PM JT-Shop: we used to have a slate roof in Louisiana
02:35 PM lcnc-relay: <voiditswarranty@> hah my grandfather bent a trailer hitch under his car so far it dragged on the ground crossing the busiest intersection in the city after he went to the dump to go "shopping" and came home with a trailer load of slate. he ended up shoving wood under the springs to get a little more height and kept going
02:35 PM lcnc-relay: <voiditswarranty@> a few decades later my dad did basically the same thing, totally forgetting the first time. I have so far resisted repeating it.
02:37 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I don't know if any of the roof trusses around the farm could handle a slate roof + snow load. The house probably could..
02:38 PM xxcoder: I wonder if you could use heated roof, to something like 34f
02:38 PM xxcoder: so snow always melts off
02:39 PM rdtsc-w: problem is ice dams at the edges
02:39 PM xxcoder: hmm I guess can always use higher heat at edge to stop that
02:40 PM xxcoder: something like 40f would stop that
02:42 PM xxcoder: just glad I live in place where its virtually impossible to have snow on roof
02:47 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> you miss out on all the fun
02:48 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/PxaeGBA1X7XdfHWq9
02:48 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> the 2 kids are on the lift behind me
02:49 PM xxcoder: lol
02:49 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Only way I can get them to sit together.
02:50 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> and https://photos.app.goo.gl/5Dg8icg7kTLiVy6d6
04:46 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> JT-Shop, do you have 7i95t with you?
04:52 PM JT-Shop: I think I have a prototype
04:52 PM JT-Shop: afaik I'm out of stock
05:06 PM * JT-Shop wonders why he has life jackets, boat fenders and boat cushions???
05:16 PM JT-Shop: and no boat
05:32 PM xxcoder: did you drunkly buy boat and stuff and sink it, put rest away and forget? ;0
05:33 PM JT-Shop: I've had a few boats over the years and have no clue why I didn't send that stuff with the last boat
05:37 PM xxcoder: lol ok. I guess it was simply missed with earlier boat sale
05:38 PM JT-Shop: yup the last boat was not in use for a few years before I sold it so all that stuff was put away and forgot about
07:21 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> well - that blade seems to cut it - just a bit slow
07:21 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/Lf3y6pmqC9jaHfN86
07:23 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> find out if I can drill a 3/4 in hole through it
07:24 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> (it is a finer blade)
07:33 PM Tom_L: seems like it wants to work harden quick
07:40 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yes - not going to use it.. Would not cut the second one
07:49 PM xxcoder: mean steel I guess
07:49 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> wow - so the stainless that I thought was all the same - the one I grabbed was non-magnetic. The other two bars - the magnet sticks to.. Might try that
08:04 PM Tom_L: some is pretty crappy to machine i know
08:04 PM Tom_L: i had some small bars (not sure what alloy) but they cut pretty easy
08:08 PM Tom_L: higher nickel content is non magnetic
08:09 PM Tom_L: 304, 316
08:53 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I don't know my stainless - easier to machine?
09:10 PM Tom_L: i'm not sure either really
09:11 PM Tom_L: haven't done alot with stainless
09:12 PM xxcoder: stainless is usually pretty mean
09:12 PM xxcoder: it work hardens as you start designing part stainless steel is for
09:58 PM lfluffywof is now known as fluffywolf
10:01 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> anybody did something cool tool changer?
