08:27 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> Good
08:27 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> Morning
08:28 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> Happy the day before everybody's dogs have heart attacks
08:28 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> 😀
08:29 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> Otherwise known in the US as the 4th of July Independence Day
08:54 AM lcnc-relay: <bitgamer77@> Hi folks.
08:55 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
09:07 AM rdtsc-w: indeed cap'n! figured out what works with the dog though (after trying literally everything else...) put 'em in the basement, and leave the stereo up fairly loud. dog will just sleep through it all
09:20 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> our basement is concrete - even the roof.. Maybe I should try that.
10:06 AM JT-Shop: seems you can only email lg customer support if you live in canada
10:23 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
11:08 AM roycroft: this will be my cats' first 4th of july - they were born in mid-july of last year
11:08 AM roycroft: i fully expect them to freak out at the fireworks just like every other cat i've ever had
11:09 AM JT-Shop: no one lives close to me so you have be outside to hear or see any fireworks
11:17 AM JT-Shop: steps are swept clean for the assistant chicken tender for this weekend
11:39 AM roycroft: i have so much work to do
11:39 AM roycroft: my box joints turned out pretty crappy - i won't be using the origin for that again
11:40 AM roycroft: so now i have some doctoring work to do on them which i hadn't planned on doing
11:41 AM roycroft: i think i can still get finish on the outside of the case by tomorrow, so i should be able to get started on the electronics tomorrow evening
11:41 AM roycroft: maybe i'll be ready for a power test this weekend
11:43 AM JT-Cave: I'll be doing a traction test Saturday
12:13 PM Tom_itx: JT-Cave, you get your cup 2 r tires to play with?
12:19 PM JT-Shop: no, ran out of time
12:19 PM JT-Shop: I'll get them before the next one
12:23 PM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
01:15 PM JT-Shop: carry all just got a new zip code and fb marketplace came through again
01:23 PM JT-Shop: nap time now
04:05 PM JT-Shop: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c3-tech-performance/4931280-jack-for-4-post-lift-2.html#post1608927975
04:07 PM Tom_L: :)
04:07 PM xxcoder: wow lift
04:09 PM * JT-Shop goes to the deck to cook
05:18 PM roycroft: it's the holiday weekend!
05:18 PM xxcoder: yay its scare the dogs and cats day!
05:18 PM xxcoder: tomorrow
05:20 PM Tom_L: the only month long holiday
05:20 PM * roycroft will start celebrating by going out to work in the shop
05:20 PM roycroft: fortunately the fireworks crap is not so bad up here
05:20 PM roycroft: i thought it would be worse than in eugene
05:21 PM roycroft: but i haven't heard any at all yet, and when i lived in eugene they would start at least a week before the 4th
05:21 PM xxcoder: I'm just glad I'm deaf. I can still sleep like dead those days
05:22 PM roycroft: i'm really unhappy with the way my controller cabinet is turning out, but it's just shop furniture, not house furniture, so i am not going to spend the time fixing everything up perfectly
05:22 PM roycroft: it's a combination of the wood i used and the crappy job the shaper origin did on the box joints
05:23 PM xxcoder: your unhappy design probably would be like work of art to me
05:23 PM roycroft: i think it's time for final sanding and then i can start with the wood dye
05:57 PM roycroft: one little tiny place needed some more fixing up, but that place was on the front panel, so i had to do it
05:57 PM roycroft: once the repair is dry i'll be able to dye
06:00 PM roycroft: it's not too hot today - perhaps now would be a good time to go to the storage unit and look for my gtaw torch and pedal
06:02 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
07:05 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> in linuxcnc why i cant choose 7i95 board?
07:07 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> i doing an upgrade... maybe
07:14 PM Tom_L: it may not be in the gui config utilities but it can be configured
07:15 PM Tom_L: you my end up doing it manually
07:15 PM Tom_L: it may be one of the older boards
07:16 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> really
07:16 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> i just ordered it, lol
07:16 PM Tom_L: https://store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=343
07:17 PM Tom_L: Go to replacement: 7I95T)
07:17 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> that what i have! 🙂
07:17 PM Tom_L: the T probably has the newer fpga chip
07:17 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> but not in the configurator
07:17 PM Tom_L: what tool are you using?
07:18 PM Tom_L: i dunno if mesact has that board or not
07:18 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> pncconf
07:18 PM Tom_L: see if mesact has it
07:19 PM Tom_L: https://www.gnipsel.com/linuxcnc/mesact/index.html
07:19 PM Tom_L: https://github.com/jethornton/mesact
07:20 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> its not have :/
07:20 PM Tom_L: not all mesa boards are in those config tools
07:20 PM Tom_L: i know mesact focused on the newer boards first and i'm not sure which boards he supports now
07:20 PM Tom_L: you could find one similar and start the config with it
07:21 PM Tom_L: then manually edit from there
07:21 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> 7i95=7i95t?
07:21 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> not showing smaller differences
07:21 PM Tom_L: afik yes
07:21 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> might give a try
07:21 PM Tom_L: the T probably has the newer fpga in it
07:21 PM Tom_L: instead of xilinx
07:22 PM Tom_L: it was all due to the 'chip shortage'
07:22 PM Tom_L: forced changes
07:23 PM Tom_L: pcw--home or JT-Shop could probably tell you which board would be the closest to use to start the config
07:24 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> mesact have it!
07:24 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> ty!
07:25 PM Tom_L: great
07:26 PM Tom_L: start with a new config. i doubt they are interchangeable between pncconfig & mesact
07:26 PM Tom_L: in fact i'm sure they're not
07:28 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> is linuxcnc cant run if controller not found?
07:29 PM Tom_L: correct
07:29 PM Tom_L: you can also download mesaflash
07:29 PM Tom_L: it's a tool for loading bit files to the mesa boards
07:30 PM Tom_L: https://github.com/linuxCNC/mesaflash
07:30 PM Tom_L: follow the build directions in the readme
07:31 PM Tom_L: you need the ethernet board connected direct to the pc, not thru a switch etc
07:31 PM Tom_L: with a static ip on the pc
07:32 PM Tom_L: generally set to 10.10.10.x and use the alternate ip on the 7i95T
07:32 PM Tom_L: it has a jumper for that
07:33 PM Tom_L: so that would be the first step to create communication to the board
07:39 PM Tom_L: once you connect the board you can list the config in the mesa board using mesaflash something similar to this:
07:39 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> am i need to flash it?
07:40 PM Tom_L: mesact --board 7i95T --addr 10.10.10.10 --readhmid
07:40 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> ah, for ip change
07:40 PM Tom_L: no it comes with a default config
07:40 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> thats not problem, i will use it with hp workstation for this
07:40 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> 2 lan port 🙂
07:40 PM Tom_L: but ^^ that command should list it
07:41 PM Tom_L: then you will know how the functions are mapped to the IO pins
07:42 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/configs/NEW_MILL/pinout.txt
07:42 PM Tom_L: it will give you a similar listing
07:42 PM Tom_L: that's one of mine
07:44 PM Tom_L: if you don't use all the ones for stepgen etc, they can be used for GPIO
07:45 PM Tom_L: notice the 'Pri. func' and 'Sec. func' in the listing
07:45 PM Tom_L: the mesact config tool helps you enable those that you need in the config file
07:47 PM Tom_L: mesact --board 7i95T --addr 10.10.10.10 --readhmid should be: mesaflash --device 7i95T --addr 10.10.10.10 --readhmid
07:47 PM Tom_L: typos above
07:47 PM Tom_L: run that from a terminal
07:54 PM Tom_L: .le_potato, the alternate ip on the mesa board is set to 10.10.10.10 by default, just change the jumper for that. the mesaflash command just access the board using the ip
07:56 PM Tom_L: mesact will make use of mesaflash if it is installed. it has a menu item to list the board content
07:56 PM Tom_L: even simpler
08:01 PM _unreal_: getting closer to at least getting the big cnc machine back online
08:01 PM _unreal_: SOOOOOO much stuff left to move from the storage unit
08:11 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I am flailing.. I will be flailing probably until I die
08:11 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> just found out the neighbor has brain cancer.. ugh
08:48 PM lcnc-relay: <.le_potato@> thank you Tom_L
09:09 PM roycroft: i'm locked out of my storage unit
09:09 PM roycroft: and a the worst possible time
09:10 PM roycroft: i really need to get some stuff this weekend, and there's a good chance the problem won't be resovled until monday
09:10 PM roycroft: my gate code is not working
09:16 PM roycroft: bummer about your neighbor, skunkworks8841
09:21 PM xxcoder: ugh woke up like zombie
09:21 PM xxcoder: this is why I dont take naps normally. didnt feel too well today though
09:22 PM xxcoder: brain cancer sucks, hope it will go well for your neighbor, though chances isnt great
09:46 PM roycroft: hmm, we might get a little rain tonight
09:46 PM roycroft: that just now showed up in the forecast
09:46 PM roycroft: just a mm or so
11:01 PM xxcoder: sunny here, or was
11:02 PM roycroft: it was sunny here too
11:02 PM roycroft: but the clouds are rolling in now
11:02 PM roycroft: it should be sunny again by mid-morning though
11:02 PM xxcoder: yeah? its clear but just starting to get dim with sunset
11:03 PM roycroft: red sky tonight
11:03 PM roycroft: not from smoke
11:55 PM roycroft: well, the fireworks have started across the street
11:55 PM roycroft: unlike last year, when there were none until the 4th
