01:03 AM Deejay: moin
05:03 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> Morning
11:16 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> I need to work on a Fanuc GUI for LCNC
11:16 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> Fanuc users just can't get used to anything else
11:17 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> They are just used to block functions and having to perform way more steps than you really have to
11:20 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> Some Fanuc users complain that LCNC has no tool wear compensation
11:22 AM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> The only accurate tool wear compensation is measuring the actual wear vs assuming that the tools wear the same amount over time running the same parts, materials and programs.
11:56 AM rdtsc: hey Capn'! Of course flexgui lets you build a linuxcnc GUI any way you want. Could probably even find some Fanuc-like fonts. Unsure about block functions; take a look if you haven't already: https://www.gnipsel.com/linuxcnc/flexgui/index.html
01:35 PM JT-Shop: I think fanuc users should stick to fanuc and stay in the past
01:45 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> the most used cnc controller worldwide
01:45 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> https://i.imgur.com/tJ8smuY.jpeg
01:46 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> the wear issue on lathe is legit, on mill its annoying but not that big a deal
01:46 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> loading and running a program by only pressing 5 buttons is a lot smoother workflow than using a mouse
01:47 PM xxcoder: never used wear comp thats auto, even on those nasty fiberglass parts that eat endmills
01:47 PM xxcoder: I just adjusted endmills diameter each few parts
01:47 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> i dont use auto either, but used to hit a dimension
01:48 PM xxcoder: yeah
01:48 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> for lathe, you need to change the offset
01:48 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> then change it back
01:48 PM xxcoder: we had special tooling for fiberglass parts lol. otherwise it'd cost so much money to make. for example, 0.75" endmill thats down to .69" after regrinds
01:49 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> i think theres some comp for it though lathe wear
02:09 PM JT-Cave: actually you can have wear comp now
02:27 PM Tom_L: we ran lathe parts with tenth tolerance and had to adjust as the temp changed thru the day
02:27 PM rdtsc: G41/2/3 can be used to tweak a nominal tool diameter
02:29 PM rdtsc: https://linuxcnc.org/docs/html/gcode/g-code.html#gcode:g41.1-g42.1
02:31 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> big_kevin420@ do you mean 5 buttons for LCNC vs 50 buttons for Fanuc?
02:32 PM Tom_L: they like buttons... give em buttons
02:32 PM rdtsc: Rigol --> Riglol... Fanuc --> Fanyuck?
02:32 PM Tom_L: you'd think they could adjust
03:33 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> its 5 buttons for fanuc and mouse for lcnc
04:25 PM Unterhaus__ is now known as Unterhausen
04:42 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> Then you're using LCNC wrong
04:43 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> Maybe you mean Axis vs Fanuc
04:43 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> not touchscreen
04:43 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.@> Yup
04:43 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> you can almost use axis with all keyboard
04:48 PM Unterhausen: I feel like JT didn't like the idea of a flexgui version that looked like fanuc
04:49 PM Unterhausen: I'm reminded that my ex-boss and I went to the fanuc booth at IMTS and they treated him like a celebrity. They didn't take us into the back and give us drinks though
05:16 PM Tom_L: siemens is nearly as popular as fanuc
06:10 PM roycroft: my controller cabinet is finally ready for pre-finishing and assembly
06:11 PM roycroft: i found a scrap of walnut that was the perfect size and remade the fan guard
06:11 PM roycroft: but it's too hot in the shop now, and i did not turn on the ac today
06:11 PM roycroft: so the next phase of the work will happen in the morning ,when it's cooler
06:15 PM xxcoder: sushiiiiiii
06:15 PM xxcoder: winco one but yeah
06:22 PM xxcoder: roy nice.
06:28 PM roycroft: it's pizza night here
06:29 PM roycroft: postponed from last night
06:55 PM JT-Shop: shrimp and grits night here
06:59 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> still 93 outside......
07:03 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> was going to bbq, but too fricking hot out for that....
07:05 PM JT-Shop: it's only 80°F here and we sat outside at King Davids for dinner
07:08 PM JT-Shop: my derailleur is not working right so that is tomorrow's task
07:16 PM roycroft: the concert last night was amazing, btw - one of the best shows i've seen in years
07:16 PM roycroft: and the weather was perfect
07:16 PM roycroft: the sun went down behind a cloud just as the concert began
07:19 PM * JT-Shop has never been to a concert
07:19 PM roycroft: oh my
07:19 PM roycroft: i used to go to at least a couple/month
07:20 PM roycroft: other than the monthly symphony concerts, i only go to a couple/year these days
07:20 PM JT-Shop: I don't like crowds, so being in one is a bit of an issue
07:21 PM JT-Shop: I do prefer to hear the recording that was perfected than the live show
07:21 PM roycroft: the cuthbert ampitheater is outdoors, and somewhat intimate
07:21 PM roycroft: i sat on the lawn, not in one of the reserved seats
07:22 PM roycroft: and there was plenty of room around me
07:22 PM JT-Shop: there was nothing like that in south louisiana that I knew of or on the gulf coast when I lived there
07:23 PM JT-Shop: a concert where you sit in your lawn chair would be nice for sure
07:24 PM JT-Shop: hmm we did that a dozen or so years ago but I forgot who we saw...
07:24 PM JT-Shop: they say it doesn't get better... your memory
07:27 PM roycroft: https://i0.wp.com/liveforlivemusic.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Pretty-Lights-Cuthbert-Amphitheater-9-4-2016-WEB-2-of-90.jpg?ssl=1
07:28 PM roycroft: i saw lyle lovett and his large band last night
07:28 PM JT-Shop: that's a nice place, you are lucky to have have that near you
07:28 PM roycroft: the show was sold out, but the reserved seats were only about half full
07:28 PM roycroft: yeah, its a wonderful venue
07:28 PM roycroft: and the willamette river runs right behind it
07:29 PM roycroft: lots of folks canoe in and listen to shows from behind the stage
07:29 PM JT-Shop: I like the green plants and the view
07:29 PM roycroft: it's in the middle of a huge park right next to downtown eugene
07:29 PM JT-Shop: I would go there for sure if it was local to me
07:30 PM roycroft: it's one of my favorite concert venues ever
07:31 PM roycroft: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hayden_Homes_Amphitheater#/media/File:HHA-Brantley-Gilbert-Drone-2021-Matthew-Lasala-7.jpg
07:31 PM * JT-Shop wanders inside being FD&H
07:31 PM roycroft: that's another nice outdoor venue that i've been to
07:31 PM roycroft: it's in central oregon
07:31 PM roycroft: about an hour and a half from here, so i don't go there often
07:31 PM roycroft: in fact, i haven't been there in about 20 years
07:32 PM roycroft: bob dylan was the last artist i saw there
07:32 PM JT-Shop: a bit crowded for me, the first one is much better
07:32 PM roycroft: yes, the cuthbert is much nicer
07:32 PM JT-Shop: that would be cool
07:32 PM roycroft: and has better shows
07:32 PM roycroft: the hayden homes ampitheater tends to get a lot of "arena rock" type bands
07:33 PM * JT-Shop wanders inside to see if the mrs has waken up from her nap
07:33 PM roycroft: i'm trying to get tickets for jon batiste in september
07:33 PM roycroft: and i already have tickets for the eugene symphony summer concert at the cuthbert
07:33 PM roycroft: that is at the end of july
07:34 PM roycroft: i used to just sit on the grass, but after my back surgery that's kind of difficult
07:34 PM roycroft: so i got one of those event chairs - a lawn chair with 8" legs
07:34 PM roycroft: that was perfect
07:34 PM roycroft: they don't allow tall lawn chairs, but event chairs are fine
07:35 PM roycroft: i'm going to bring it to the country fair this year so i don't have to sit on the ground for shows
07:37 PM roycroft: https://www.vrtxmag.com/media/photo/scenes-from-day-two-of-northwest-string-summit-at-hornings-hideout-on-july-19-2019/
07:37 PM roycroft: horning's hideout is a wonderful venue
07:38 PM roycroft: it's about a half hour outside of portland, but in the middle of the woods in the middle of nowhere
07:38 PM roycroft: i used to go to the northwest string summit there
07:38 PM roycroft: it's a 3 day festival, and there is camping right by the stage
