05:19 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> moin
07:19 AM rdtsc-w: guten morgen, ohayou gozaimasu, and 'mornin
07:34 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> 也祝你有个愉快的一天
07:58 AM lcnc-relay: <TurBoss> 🖖
08:07 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> The green machine ran all night without and read errors at 500hz
08:11 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> *any
08:19 AM rdtsc-w: Oh good... no menus in Klingon? :)
08:37 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> not yet - you must not have made it through the starlink terminal yet.
09:03 AM Tom_L: skunkworks, does the rpi4 run hot when you overclock it?
09:04 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yes - warm
09:05 AM Tom_L: enough to need active cooling?
09:06 AM Tom_L: mine has heatsink on both sides
09:08 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> same here. both rpi4 have heatsink cases - never had issues with cooling that I know of.
09:08 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> it is warm to touch - not burn your hand hot.
09:08 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> (no fan)
09:09 AM Tom_L: ok
09:56 AM Tom_L: histogram is about the same on D12 2.9.4 with your tweaks
09:56 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I could tell you the soc temp when I get home
10:00 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/Rpi4/Rpi4_histogram294_tweaks.png
10:00 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/Rpi4/Rpi4_histogram294..png
10:00 AM Tom_L: maybe a bit worse but i'm running 1 more gears on it
10:02 AM Tom_L: not a huge advantage
10:11 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> you almost have to run it for hours. but it could be. Without the tweeks - I see over 100us with - it seems to stay under 100
10:12 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> but it is kinda moot. As it still doesn't run a 1khz servo thread. (either way)
10:12 AM Tom_L: yeah
10:15 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> (but it did on whatever I was running before)
01:32 PM rdtsc-w: gonna try some CME TCMT32.51 CS2125 inserts in the manual shop lathe, economical
04:55 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> no read errors again..
04:55 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> running all day
06:46 PM rdtsc is now known as rdtsc_
08:09 PM xxcoder: finally bit more cloud covr
08:09 PM xxcoder: so it actually dims a little
08:13 PM roycroft: yeah, there's a wee bit of a haze here
08:13 PM roycroft: but it's still pretty warm
08:14 PM roycroft: i've decided i'm not impressed with the shaper origin for box joints
08:14 PM roycroft: it was a very slow process, and i had to do a bit of cleanup with a chisel after
08:14 PM roycroft: it would have been faster to just use my router table or table saw
08:15 PM roycroft: and the cutout for my fan inlet broke while i was cutting the box joints, so i have to figure out how i'm going to deal with that now
08:16 PM roycroft: but i'm about to cut out the base and the top for the controller cabinet, and when that's done i can start laying out the electronics placement while i'm finishing up the sides
08:16 PM xxcoder: should be repairable with wood glue and some powdered wood mixed in glue to hide the seams
09:38 PM roycroft: there are missing pieces
09:38 PM roycroft: i'll figure something out
09:38 PM roycroft: meanwhile, i had to stop for the day
09:39 PM xxcoder: can always make an insert
09:39 PM roycroft: i was routing some grooves to fit the bottom piece into the sides, and realized that i need to do an epoxy fill before making the groove in one piece
09:39 PM roycroft: i was going to do the epoxy fill later, right before final assembly, but i had to do it now, so i get to wait until tomorrow to work on it more
09:39 PM roycroft: yeah, i'm thinking of an insert
09:40 PM roycroft: i have to decide whether to make it out of the same wood, a contrasting wood, or maybe brass
09:40 PM roycroft: but an insert is likely what i'll do
09:41 PM roycroft: oh well, there is progress every day, even when their are minor setbacks
09:41 PM roycroft: and even more importantly, i'm back in the shop every day now, and getting back in the groove of making stuff
09:42 PM roycroft: today i sharpened chisels - something i've not done since i moved here, because i did not have the sharpening gear together to conveniently work with
09:42 PM roycroft: for the past year, what little chisel work i've done i've done with whatever might work and was reasonably sharp, not with the one i wanted to use
09:42 PM roycroft: but today i sharpened a bunch of them
09:42 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> When we first got the router table going.. dad made a bunch of recipe boxes out of oak and walnut... Box joints.
09:43 PM roycroft: i can do them at least twice as fast on the router table as with the shaper origin
09:43 PM roycroft: folks talk about how great the origin is for box joints because it does all the calculations
09:43 PM Tom_L: sounding like you're liking it less every day
09:44 PM roycroft: but i have an incra jig, and i have a great utility called pyrouterjig, which does all that for me, and generates templates for the incra jig
09:44 PM roycroft: tom_l: not true
09:44 PM roycroft: i'm discovering what it does well for me and what it does not do well for me
09:45 PM roycroft: before recently i had hardly used it - i bought it not too long before i started house shopping
09:45 PM roycroft: and i barely used it before i moved
09:45 PM roycroft: now i'm starting to use it regularly, and figuring out how it best fits into my work flow
09:46 PM roycroft: i'm convinced more and more, though, that it will never be a replacemnt for a proper cnc gantry router, and that new bench pilot product does not bridge the gap - it just makes it a little smaller
09:46 PM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> moin
09:47 PM Tom_L: evening
09:47 PM * roycroft goes to make dinner
09:47 PM xxcoder: well theres postives to it too, cnc router, you cant just engrave in middle of something huge
09:47 PM roycroft: right, xxcoder
09:47 PM roycroft: the products complement each other
09:47 PM roycroft: neither replaces the other
09:48 PM roycroft: i have no regrets about purchasing it, and when i get my cnc router going (not the mini-router, but the bigger one) i'll still use the origin a lot
