04:35 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> i need the ethercat ETG1000.6 pdf but have no account 😦
05:00 AM Deejay: hi
05:21 AM lcnc-relay: <off7788@> meisterdippel@: i hvae <ETG1000_6_V1i0i3_S_R_EcatALProtocols.pdf>, is it u need?
05:23 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> off7788@: sounds like the right one 🙂 can you mail it ? o.dippel AT gmx.de
05:35 AM Tom_L: morning
05:42 AM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> morning
07:12 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> ok, first step is done: https://github.com/multigcs/esitool
07:13 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> ethercat xml <-> eeprom converter , WIP
09:08 AM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> Is there a well established methodology of switching between Velocity mode spindle and C axis?
10:26 AM pcw--home: sodakaustik@ Not that I know of, there are examples in the forum, the tricky part is changes from Spindle to C, as the axis needs to be rehomed in such a way tha there are no following errors generated.
10:30 AM pcw--home: (usually done with some muxes so LinuxCNCs motion component is kept happy)
10:31 AM pcw--home: It really needs a component or being built into motion...
10:45 AM lcnc-relay: <off7788@> https://forum.linuxcnc.org/media/kunena/attachments/25526/caxis.comp
10:59 AM Tom_L: pcw--home, i installed an old bullseye sd in the rpi4 and the spi worked the first time
11:00 AM Tom_L: i'll try a bookworm sd next
11:00 AM Tom_L: that verifies the cable etc for me
11:02 AM rdtsc: with the 7i90HD?
11:02 AM Tom_L: yessir
11:02 AM rdtsc: interesting...
11:02 AM Tom_L: i knew i'd had it working at one point
11:02 AM Tom_L: booting an older copy of bookworm now
11:09 AM Tom_L: so aparently it broke in debian 12 because this old bookworm copy doesn't work either
11:09 AM Tom_L: just bullseye (11) i think
11:10 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
11:23 AM Tom_dev: udo mesaflash --device 7i90HD --spi --addr /dev/spidev0.0 --readhmid
11:23 AM Tom_dev: unable to set bpw32, fallback to bpw8
11:23 AM Tom_dev: No 7I90HD board found
11:23 AM Tom_L: different reason though
11:23 AM Tom_L: now to try the debian 12 i normally use in the rpi4
01:02 PM Tom_L: yup
01:02 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> never realized how tedious the linux part was until the mainstream merge happened
01:02 PM Tom_L: made us follow a stricter rule set
01:03 PM xxcoder: I'm always amazed on work you guys do on making usable and good machine controller.
01:03 PM xxcoder: I remember entering here bit over decade ago, not quite understanding what lcnc do.
01:04 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> a decade ago all i knew about lcnc was " its the only thing with encoders, time to learn"
01:04 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> then everything became hard every day all the time
01:06 PM bjorkintosh: damn. which part of it remains hard big_kevin?
01:06 PM lcnc-relay: <off7788@> amazing project, great developers
01:07 PM lcnc-relay: <off7788@> respect!
01:10 PM * rdtsc changes the channel topic to "Linuxcnc - learning new things everyday since the birth of EMC2!" ;)
01:10 PM xxcoder: lol
01:11 PM bjorkintosh: well the *nix part needn't change right? that part is what it is.
01:11 PM rdtsc: ya know, EMC2 corp was gobbled up by Dell... doubt there's even a trademark against it now... but alas, there's a lot of things named EMC2
01:12 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
01:12 PM xxcoder: I kinda hope linuxcnc would be renamed to lcnc
01:13 PM xxcoder: I always call it lcnc anyway lol
01:13 PM rdtsc: coming into it post-linuxcnc, don't mind it at all. EMC2 works also (I think some of the devs still use EMC2 in passing) :)
01:13 PM Unterhausen: selon google, lcnc means "no code/low code"
01:15 PM rdtsc: "linuxcnc" definitely has no ambiguity
01:15 PM bjorkintosh: one day it may become opencnc :-D
01:15 PM bjorkintosh: O'Cnc.
01:15 PM Unterhausen: there were complains about the rename from bsd fans
01:16 PM bjorkintosh: the O'BSD folks?
01:16 PM Unterhausen: It used to run on other platforms maybe, I forget
01:17 PM Unterhausen: RTWindows would be a fun port
01:17 PM xxcoder: reactos :P
01:18 PM * rdtsc falls over dead. The first time RTWindows runs - bluescreen
01:18 PM xxcoder: reactos still being developed and current
01:18 PM bjorkintosh: what's RTWindows?
01:35 PM Tom_L: 'realtime'
01:36 PM Tom_L: but not really
01:36 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> @bjorkintosh idk, everything always. its pretty streamline now thought for regular stuff
01:47 PM Tom_L: haha there's a 2.8 copy for the rpi
01:56 PM Tom_L: AI-CNC
01:56 PM Tom_L: wow that sd got hotter than a pistol.. guessin i shouln't keep that one
01:57 PM Tom_L: in fairness it _was_ marked bad but still tossed on the pile
02:06 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> hahaha oh yeah
02:06 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> that will happebn
03:02 PM BorgPipe is now known as NetPipe
03:50 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> home sweet home
03:50 PM xxcoder: 🏠🍬🏠
03:52 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> the problem with emc2 in google searches is you get server solutions
03:53 PM rdtsc: there's quite a few companies using "emc"
03:53 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> right
04:06 PM rdtsc: Tom, apt update did show an update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-6.12.11 and related; now three files in /boot are different... however it rebooted fine. so only looks like *certain* rebuilds bork it...
04:13 PM Tom_L: i ended up getting a black screen using that older image
04:15 PM rdtsc: ditto - freeze at boot with the 6.1.xx
04:15 PM Tom_L: it's not just you then
04:17 PM rdtsc: rpi5 is up and running, trying to iron out the external usb wifi dongle now... https://forum.linuxcnc.org/38-general-linuxcnc-questions/56437-rpi5-decided-to-make-backup-script-for-boot#330642 heheheh
04:29 PM xxcoder: oh new ToT
05:54 PM NetPipe: https://github.com/netpipe/qtZenity/ has macos release
06:56 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> tot is so random
06:56 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> but still mostly entertaining..
07:09 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> 92 here..
07:11 PM Tom_L: 90
07:30 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> thank goodness for air.
07:33 PM xxcoder: yeah. kinda hard to breathe without air :D
07:35 PM roycroft: it's still cool and very rainy here
07:35 PM roycroft: but summer should return on the morrow
07:37 PM rdtsc: 'twas a scorcher in the midwest, with even hotter tomorrow
07:45 PM roycroft: it seems that it's hot in most of the country
08:05 PM Rhine_Labs: https://youtu.be/bsadaoo4-oA
08:12 PM Tom_L: pcw--home, well the config isn't quite righ yet but hm2_spix works on the rpi5 here. i can at least see a pin list
08:12 PM Tom_L: mesaflash does not yet
08:17 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
08:17 PM Tom_rpi5: http://paste.debian.net/1381508/
08:17 PM Tom_L: still figuring out the config line i think
08:18 PM Tom_L: 33 says it's shutting down
08:19 PM Tom_L: 119 wait failed
08:25 PM Tom_rpi5: http://paste.debian.net/1381511/
08:26 PM Tom_L: seems like it would load hm2_spix 2x but without the first one i get no pin list
08:26 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> does that load?
08:26 PM Tom_L: see the previous paste
08:26 PM Tom_L: error list
08:26 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> ah
08:26 PM Tom_L: 8:07
08:27 PM Tom_L: i'm not sure about all the hm2_spix parameters either
08:27 PM Tom_L: going off hear say so far :)
08:27 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> that is all new to me.
08:27 PM Tom_L: damn dude... get with it!
08:27 PM Tom_L: i need help!
08:27 PM Tom_L: new to me too
08:28 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> feel so inadequate...
08:28 PM Tom_L: at least it's seeing the card
08:28 PM Tom_L: it's really odd.. i had a bullseye install on the rpi4 and it works great
08:28 PM Tom_L: anything newer doesn't
08:29 PM Tom_L: bookworm...
08:29 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I have not played witht he rpi4 in a while. the green machine is running a really old version of linuxcnc
08:29 PM Tom_L: someone suggested loading a config so i did that this evening and that's the result so far
08:29 PM Tom_L: keep it :)
08:30 PM Tom_L: i'm just putzing anyway
08:30 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> the latest image (from a month or so ago) really worked great on the rpi5 (for the monarch)
08:30 PM Tom_L: are you running spi?
08:30 PM Tom_L: ethernet....
08:30 PM Tom_L: :)
08:30 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> nope
08:30 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> ethernet
08:30 PM Tom_L: i'm sure that works fine
08:30 PM Tom_L: on this too
08:31 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> so cutting edge.
08:31 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> 🙂
08:31 PM Tom_L: that's where the fun is at
08:31 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> agreed
08:32 PM Tom_L: i don't get why line 33 shows shutting down though
08:33 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> right - that is so odd. there isn't any errors.
08:33 PM Tom_L: 119
08:34 PM Tom_L: it's like 118 finally sees the 2nd load of hm2_spix
08:34 PM Tom_L: once with loadrt and once with the loadrt [HOSTMOT] line
08:41 PM Tom_L: i noticed i didn't have to load the spi address either
08:51 PM Tom_L: skunkworks, do i need to specify anything in the config for the DPLL timer?
08:51 PM Tom_L: that one is kinda new to me
08:51 PM Tom_L: this bitfile has that in it though
08:51 PM Tom_L: timer-us not found...
08:54 PM Tom_L: ahh i have that in the config already
08:54 PM Tom_L: but why not found...
09:00 PM Tom_L: parts of this is because i'm not using the same bit as the config
09:07 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I don't think you need the dpll for it to work..
09:07 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> (like - if you don't specifiy the dpll stuff - it just runs normally)
09:12 PM Tom_L: this bit file must not have it because i had a hal line for it
09:12 PM Tom_L: and that caused the error
09:12 PM Tom_L: i should probably load the right pin file
09:12 PM Tom_L: now that i'm working on a config
09:20 PM Tom_L: ok we'll see if that makes a difference..
10:06 PM Tom_L: ok axis starts with no errors and show pin shows pins :)
10:07 PM Tom_L: mesaflash doesn't work with this setup though
10:07 PM Tom_L: the spix driver seems to be ok though
10:10 PM Tom_L: as does the new spi bitfile i made
10:14 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> the problem was loading it twice in hal right?
10:15 PM Tom_L: there were a few issues
10:16 PM Tom_L: i had the config line wrong to begin with so i looked up the spix driver and fixed that
10:16 PM Tom_L: had an oddball bitfile loaded so my pinout didn't match my config
10:16 PM Tom_L: fixed that
10:16 PM Tom_L: loaded a new bitfile and tweaked the path names for 'cnc'
10:17 PM Tom_L: some of the above issues i anticipated
10:18 PM Tom_L: so in answer... no not really
10:20 PM Tom_L: i had my config set for 3 different cenarios already by changing driver etc
10:20 PM Tom_L: epp, ethernet and spi so i added spix
10:21 PM Tom_L: i can drop in a board and the config is pretty much the same
10:21 PM Tom_L: 7i90 does epp, spi serial - 7i80 does ethernet same pinout
10:22 PM Tom_L: makes testing multiple interfaces alot easier
10:26 PM Tom_L: i couldn't figure out where the screen capture is on the pi yet or i'd have snaped a pic
10:27 PM Tom_L: it's got some oddball name on the pi
10:27 PM Tom_L: ahh.. scrot
