04:45 AM Tom_L: morning
04:45 AM rifraf: morning Tom_L
05:22 AM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> Morning
05:30 AM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> Are there any good DIN rail PC units commonly suitable for lcnc, im looking for something to make a nice clean setup.
05:32 AM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> I have a beckhoff cx9020 but im not sure what would happen
07:12 AM rdtsc-w: morning. Beckhoff like to use Win7 Embedded and very customized hardware - doubt very much Linux would like it (but would be interesting to try.)
07:22 AM rdtsc-w: question is, what is the processor (is it even supported), what is the OS storage medium (flash, emmc, etc), and can it boot from a USB device to install Linux?
07:22 AM rdtsc-w: interesting - they just started RT linux: https://download.beckhoff.com/download/Document/ipc/embedded-pc/embedded-pc-cx/Beckhoff_RT_Linux_en.pdf
07:25 AM Tom_L: rdtsc-w, did you leave things in a mess or figure it out?
07:27 AM rdtsc-w: even more interesting, CX9240 is shown on their linux page: https://www.beckhoff.com/en-us/products/product-news/linux-r/ hmm maybe it is possible
07:28 AM rdtsc-w: Tom no I shut everything down for the storms... will backup and reload I guess
07:39 AM rdtsc-w: but this time, I'll copy the entire bloody /boot folder, heh
10:00 AM lcnc-relay: <voiditswarranty@> heh was squaring up a 4140 grinder square block I'd made, went to stamp the sides with a number stamp to keep track of them while I ground it, forgot I had hardened it. 0.0001" deep mark, and the hammer bounced like I hit an anvil, and the next pass (spark-out) took the mark right off. Wiped out the number face too. Doh!
10:04 AM roycroft: engrave it with a laser
10:05 AM roycroft: if the laser bounces you have a big problem, though
10:05 AM lcnc-relay: <voiditswarranty@> some day, some day
10:05 AM lcnc-relay: <voiditswarranty@> oh, I could acid etch it, I've had some success making number plates for old machines with pcb resist material
10:06 AM lcnc-relay: <voiditswarranty@> the thing is covered in tapped holes though, I'll just stick set screws in sides to keep track of them
11:35 AM rdtsc-w: EDM would work, but that's a whole other set-up
11:37 AM lcnc-relay: <voiditswarranty@> the "I need to build a machine to build a machine" project list is never ending
11:38 AM roycroft: my next door neighbor is freaking out right now
11:39 AM roycroft: he's having the roof replaced on his house, and the roofers have stripped the old shingles and decking off
11:39 AM roycroft: they've replaced about 1/3 of the decking so far
11:39 AM roycroft: and they did not show up today
11:39 AM roycroft: it is going to rain starting tonight through the weekend, and it looks like a significant amount - 20mm or so both tomorrow and saturday
11:41 AM roycroft: i just told him that if he got tarps to cover the roof i'd help him as best i can to put them up, but he both doesn't have the money and he's barely able to walk
11:41 AM roycroft: i can't do it myself reasonably
11:42 AM roycroft: meanwhile, my new roof design is coming along, and i'm thinking about installing a cupola
11:42 AM roycroft: it would look cool
11:43 AM roycroft: and if i figure out a good way to open and close the vents, i could use vents in it to help with air circulation - in the summer that would be a great way to passively cool the shop
11:58 AM roycroft: ooh, i can get actuators for double-hung windows
11:58 AM roycroft: that would be perfect
11:59 AM xxcoder: wow thats bad timing on roof
12:00 PM xxcoder: can do quick tarp using some random stones to hold down?
12:02 PM roycroft: that's what i suggested
12:02 PM roycroft: the problems are that it's a pretty big area to cover
12:02 PM roycroft: tarps would cost several hundred dollars, and require a trip to town
12:02 PM roycroft: the neighbor cannot help, and i can't really install the tarps myself
12:02 PM xxcoder: oh big house. that sucks
12:02 PM roycroft: it's not huge
12:03 PM roycroft: but 30'x60' or so
12:04 PM xxcoder: hm just thought of just spray some sort of waterproofing. it dont have to last but enough to slid off most water, but what waterproofing coating?
12:19 PM roycroft: 2/3 of the roof is open rafters right now
12:19 PM roycroft: there is only sheathing on 1/3 of it
12:20 PM roycroft: there's a pile of osb on the ground, but that doesn't help
12:20 PM roycroft: the guy is pretty screwed of the roofers don't show up
12:20 PM xxcoder: oh that deep. was thinking wood sheets still there
12:20 PM xxcoder: yep very screwed
12:21 PM xxcoder: 10 am is still early enough but workers dont have much time left
12:21 PM roycroft: the roofers are ultra maga types - they have infowars stickers and gun stickers and "own the libs" stickers all over their vehicles, so i don't think they're taking the day off because of juneteenth
12:21 PM roycroft: so maybe they will show up
12:21 PM roycroft: they usually arrive at 7
12:22 PM roycroft: but the neighbor hasn't been able to get them on the phone
12:23 PM xxcoder: that dont sound great
12:37 PM roycroft: one person just showed up, and he's struggling to haul a sheet of osb up to the roof by himself
12:37 PM roycroft: i hope his other workers arrive soon
12:38 PM xxcoder: wow finally signs of life and hope
12:38 PM roycroft: yeah, but they have a buttload of sheets of osb to install today, and then at least roofing felt
12:39 PM roycroft: although with the amount rain we're due, i'm not sure that felt alone will keep all the water out
12:39 PM roycroft: there's no way they will be able to even start shingling today, though
12:39 PM roycroft: there's way too much work to do before that
12:50 PM Tom_L: roycroft, shouldn't the roofers carry insurance?
12:50 PM roycroft: yes
12:50 PM roycroft: they are required to be bonded
12:50 PM roycroft: if they're licensed contractors
12:51 PM Tom_L: do they 'look' like they are?
12:51 PM Tom_L: out of state tags etc
12:51 PM roycroft: i don't know if my neighbor hired a licensed contractor or not - a lot of stuff is done around here that's not quite kosher
12:51 PM roycroft: they have a company name on their trucks
12:51 PM Tom_L: magnetic sign on the truck
12:51 PM roycroft: i don't recall if i saw their contractor number on the trucks though - they're required to do that here
12:51 PM Tom_L: with a pile of others in the toolbox :)
12:51 PM roycroft: the guy who is here now is just a helper, and he showed up in his personal vehicle
12:52 PM Tom_L: he needs the money
12:53 PM roycroft: it still amazes me how many businesses in this town are cash only
12:53 PM Tom_L: shady
12:53 PM roycroft: indeed
12:54 PM roycroft: the outfit that fixed my car a few weeks ago told me i could only pay in cash when i went to pick it up
12:54 PM roycroft: so i had to go get some cash and pay them
12:54 PM Tom_L: they should have said that up front
12:54 PM roycroft: then i looked them up and found out that their business registration had expired in 2021
12:54 PM roycroft: they should have
12:54 PM Tom_L: and i would have mentioned that to them
12:55 PM Tom_L: but then they still have your keys
12:55 PM roycroft: right
12:55 PM roycroft: and i'm getting kind of used to this in this town
12:57 PM Tom_L: went to my local mower parts place to get a part and they told me all their chain saws are sold out
12:57 PM Tom_L: i finished cleaning up my mess yesterday
12:58 PM Tom_L: broke a pull rope on the saw. fixed that then broke the chain oil filler cap
12:58 PM Tom_L: it was brittle
12:59 PM Tom_L: had to dig out the big saw to finish helping the neighbor
01:00 PM Tom_L: it's likely older than me
01:03 PM Tom_L: meh maybe not quite
01:04 PM roycroft: i've only used my new chainsaw a half dozen times or so
01:04 PM roycroft: but it's something every homeowner should have at all times
01:05 PM Tom_L: i used to but not so much anymore
01:05 PM Tom_L: i have 3
01:05 PM roycroft: i have only 2
01:05 PM Tom_L: pole, old standby and the stihl pruning saw
01:05 PM Tom_L: it's my favorite
01:05 PM roycroft: unless you count the little electric pole saw
01:05 PM roycroft: then i have 3
01:05 PM Tom_L: 2 stihl and one mac
01:05 PM roycroft: the pole saw, an 18" poulan, and my newer one which is an echo
01:06 PM roycroft: i have bars from 20" to 27" for the echo
01:06 PM roycroft: i think echo and stihl are pretty much equivalent quality
01:06 PM Tom_L: you grow bigger trees than we do
01:06 PM Tom_L: i think the spare bar for the mac is 24"
01:06 PM roycroft: both better than husqvarna
01:06 PM rdtsc-wk: modern electric chain saws are no joke; work quite well
01:07 PM roycroft: i have some rip blades for the 27" bar
01:07 PM roycroft: it's for milling lumber
01:07 PM roycroft: electric chain saws are extremely dangerous
01:07 PM roycroft: i would not want to own one, other than the pole saw
01:07 PM roycroft: unless i were willing to wear a suit of armor when using it
01:08 PM xxcoder: dangerous certainly. I had backup plans when I had 4" electric chainsaw. expecially when I am permently dizzy and vision not tracking
01:08 PM xxcoder: it include throwing it forward if I am anywhere close to falling down. because I rather break it than hurt myself.
01:08 PM roycroft: they are much lower torque than combustion engine saws
01:08 PM roycroft: they make up for that by running at a much faster speed
01:09 PM roycroft: and they will cut right through safety chaps
01:10 PM Tom_L: roy should take a tip from xx
01:11 PM roycroft: a couple trucks just showed up next door
01:11 PM roycroft: i hope they're planning on working late
01:11 PM roycroft: but i'm glad for my neighbor that they finally arrived
01:11 PM Tom_L: yup
01:12 PM xxcoder: oh boy. wonder why they are late
01:12 PM Tom_L: i've seen some crews really slap roofing on once they get in their rythm
01:14 PM roycroft: i'm hoping at least one of them went to town to get some tarps
01:14 PM roycroft: they may be from eugene or somewhere down there, and there is fiber being installed along the highway from eugene to here
01:15 PM roycroft: yesterday i had a 40 minute wait while flaggers were routing traffic around the work
01:15 PM roycroft: that may be part of the problem
01:15 PM xxcoder: oh yes! whats up with errant wire across your land?
01:15 PM roycroft: i can't get centurylink to return my calls
01:15 PM roycroft: so i don't know
01:15 PM roycroft: if it's still there when i start construction i'll cut it down
01:15 PM roycroft: but i really want them to do that
01:25 PM xxcoder: yeah if it comes down to that
01:26 PM xxcoder: I think they was hoping you'd forget it
01:26 PM xxcoder: diffult to forget when its over the roof though lol
01:35 PM roycroft: i just phoned the regular repair folks (not engineering)
01:36 PM roycroft: they said nothing has been done on my ticket in engineering, and that they are going to dispatch someone tomorrow to remove the line
01:36 PM roycroft: i won't hold my breath
01:36 PM roycroft: but i hope that actually happens
01:36 PM xxcoder: hope so
01:36 PM roycroft: if i have to cut it i'll cut it
01:37 PM roycroft: but i won't climb the pole and cut it off at the phone
01:37 PM roycroft: and i won't climb up on my neighbor's roof and cut it there
01:37 PM roycroft: so both my neighbor and the pole would have a long cable hanging down
01:37 PM roycroft: and i don't want to do that if i can help it
01:41 PM roycroft: when i was in elementary school we had some overhead windows in the classrooms that were hinged on the top and opened out
01:41 PM roycroft: the teacher had a long pole with a hook on the end that they would attach to a cranking mechanism on the windows to open and close them
01:41 PM roycroft: i think that's what i want for cupola windows
01:42 PM roycroft: but i don't know what those are called or where to find them - if anyone has an idea i'd appreciate hearing it
01:44 PM roycroft: aah, "manual skylight operator"
02:22 PM JT-Mobile: Roycroft might like this place it has a wood fired oven
02:55 PM roycroft: is it a pizza place?
02:56 PM * roycroft got a little more work done on the controller cabinet at lunch time, and also cleaned up his grinders that have been sitting in the driveway
02:56 PM roycroft: once they are dry i'll move them to covered storage before the rain begins
02:57 PM roycroft: meanwhile, the roofers next door are scrambling to get the roof decked
02:57 PM roycroft: the wind is picking up, and they're struggling with laying felt
02:57 PM xxcoder: oh boy. lol. here was very windy yeserday
02:57 PM roycroft: maybe they shouldn't have shown up at 11?
02:57 PM xxcoder: today seems calmer but no rain. supposely will rain tomorrow.
02:58 PM Tom_L: https://www.speckpizza.com/
02:59 PM roycroft: yeah, that looks like my kind of pizza
02:59 PM roycroft: nice think crust, baked in a wood-fired oven at an obscenely high temperature
02:59 PM Tom_L: i could get behind our daily meetings there
03:00 PM xxcoder: sadly place is million miles away from me'
03:00 PM roycroft: there are three pizzarias that i know of in eugene that serve it that way, baked in a wood-fired oven
03:01 PM roycroft: and possibly more that i don't know abut
03:01 PM roycroft: we went to one of them a couple weeks ago
03:01 PM roycroft: their specialty is fried pizza
03:01 PM roycroft: they quickly fry the dough before they assemble and bake the pizza
03:01 PM Tom_L: hop on your private jet to a nice lunch at specs...
03:01 PM xxcoder: ahh was wondering how they would fry whole pizza lol
03:02 PM roycroft: and i don't know how they do it, but they have fresh porcini mushrooms available
03:02 PM roycroft: they must fly them in from italy on an almost daily basis
03:03 PM xxcoder: sounds expensive
03:03 PM roycroft: yes, they are expensive
03:05 PM xxcoder: cant grow that mushroom locally?
03:05 PM roycroft: apparently not
03:06 PM xxcoder: some mushrooms really is that sensive
03:07 PM Tom_L: An exceptionally large cap can weigh more than 1kg, with a stem of similar weight
03:07 PM roycroft: it appears that there is work on cultivating the, but as of now they're all wildcrafted
03:07 PM Tom_L: so not quite one per pizza
03:08 PM roycroft: i use dried porcinis in a lot of my italian dishes
03:10 PM roycroft: i especially like them in risotto
03:10 PM roycroft: i've never seen fresh porcinis at a market, though
03:10 PM roycroft: and we get some pretty exotic wild mushrooms around here
03:11 PM roycroft: i picked up some fresh lion's mane mushrooms last night for tomorrow's pizza
03:11 PM xxcoder: nice. I dont eat much mushrooms, as I can hardly taste em most times
03:22 PM lcnc-relay: <pink_vampire@> hopefully soon (no deadline yet) I will get a linux cnc computer here, and a small cnc machine.
03:23 PM lcnc-relay: <pink_vampire@> * yet but it will be in the following weeks)
03:25 PM xxcoder: nice :)
03:25 PM lcnc-relay: <pink_vampire@> other than that I need to learn how to work with glass
03:26 PM lcnc-relay: <pink_vampire@> what is that "APP" next to the nickname?
03:26 PM Tom_L: a relay bridge bot
03:27 PM xxcoder: yeah many of us is on irc or matrix also :D
03:27 PM lcnc-relay: <pink_vampire@> is the irc running again?
03:27 PM Tom_L: again?
03:27 PM xxcoder: did you miss the fall of freenode?
03:27 PM Tom_L: we've always been here
03:27 PM xxcoder: we are at libera.chat irc server
04:12 PM roycroft: i have never been here, and am not here now
04:13 PM roycroft: i am just giving the illusion that i am here
04:13 PM * xxcoder throws a rock though roycroft hologram
04:14 PM roycroft: sticks and stones don't break my virtual bones
04:14 PM xxcoder: 🤣
05:01 PM roycroft: i should be able to cut the brass plate to size this afternoon and start machining the port cutouts for the controller cabinet
05:02 PM roycroft: it will be interesting to see how well the shaper origin does machining brass
05:03 PM roycroft: the other sheet metals i have on hand are copper, steel, and stainless steel
05:03 PM roycroft: brass seems to offer a better chance at success than any of the above
05:08 PM rifraf: indeed, need to refine my stainless and copper machining , still destroying endmills
05:08 PM roycroft: i'm using a router, not a milling machine
05:08 PM roycroft: so it's even more challenging
05:09 PM rifraf: yep have been there, brass should be fine with light cuts
05:09 PM roycroft: i got some end mills out of storage, but i'm not sure any of them will fit my collets
05:09 PM roycroft: i have 1/8", 1/4", and 8mm collets
05:09 PM rifraf: hold down stock as rigid as possible
05:10 PM roycroft: and most of my smallest end mills have a 3/8" shank
05:10 PM roycroft: yes, that's going to be the real challenge
05:10 PM roycroft: fixturing the workpiece
05:11 PM roycroft: the corners of the sheets will be hidden, so i may drill and countersink some holes in the corners and screw it down to a piece of wood with flat head screws
05:11 PM roycroft: perhaps running some screws through what will be the cutouts as well
05:11 PM roycroft: i don't need a disc of brass flying around as soon as i release it from the sheet
05:34 PM lcnc-relay: <voiditswarranty@> double sided carpet tape! I cut thin things like that all the time. Or, super glue.
06:28 PM roycroft: double sided tape would be horrible for this
06:29 PM roycroft: i'm going to screw it down to a spoil board
06:29 PM * roycroft just got the panels cut out of the brass sheet
06:29 PM roycroft: it's 18ga, which is a weird size
06:30 PM roycroft: a wee bit too thin to easily fixture
06:30 PM roycroft: a wee bit too thick to easily machine
06:54 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcoder@> clamp AND tape?
07:14 PM roycroft: i think i'll be fine if i screw it down
07:15 PM roycroft: i think it's going to be an interesting experience no matter what happens
07:16 PM roycroft: right now i have to wait for the file to sync to my file server
07:16 PM roycroft: so i can do the svg conversion
07:16 PM * roycroft is working with two different computers for this
07:16 PM * Tom_L gets some popcorn
07:16 PM xxcoder: 🍿
07:17 PM roycroft: get plenty - i could use some :)
07:17 PM Tom_L: i had to use 2 computers to unbrick my mesa card
07:17 PM xxcoder: 🍿🍿🍿🍿
07:17 PM Tom_L: jus because i didn't have webpack on a linux box
07:17 PM Tom_L: and just because mesaflash doesn't work on windows
07:18 PM Tom_L: ... not easily
07:18 PM Tom_L: i tried to do the webpack install and it won't install on linux now
07:19 PM roycroft: weird - i had to manually sync
07:19 PM roycroft: oh well, it's synced now
07:24 PM roycroft: there's a really good chance i can machine all these cutouts without moving the shaper origin on each one - i think i can just center it over the cutout and put it in auto mode, in which case it will machine the entire outline without moving the machine at all
07:25 PM roycroft: that would make for better accuracy, control, and keep errant chips from making a mess of the bottom of the origin base
07:25 PM * roycroft is ready to give it a go
07:30 PM Tom_L: pcw--home, what are the CPOL CPHA settings for mesa spi?
07:31 PM Tom_L: my saleae has them both set to 0
07:32 PM Tom_L: active low enable
07:52 PM pcw--home: CPOL=CPHA=0 is correct
07:52 PM Tom_L: ok thanks
08:50 PM Tom_L: well, i'm getting a result: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/Rpi5/SP1.jpg
08:51 PM roycroft: well that worked out brilliantly
08:51 PM * roycroft is very pleased
08:57 PM roycroft: and for those who embrace the life vicarious:
08:57 PM roycroft: https://roycroft.us/MiniRouter/BackPanelCutout1.jpeg
08:57 PM roycroft: https://roycroft.us/MiniRouter/BackPanelCutout2.jpeg
08:58 PM roycroft: https://roycroft.us/MiniRouter/MotionControlPanel.jpeg
08:58 PM xxcoder: wow those look very nice
08:58 PM roycroft: https://roycroft.us/MiniRouter/BackPanelFirstFitment.jpeg
08:59 PM roycroft: there's a lot of cleanup and detailing to do, of course
08:59 PM roycroft: but i think it's going to turn out well
09:00 PM roycroft: the brass machined great
09:00 PM roycroft: i slowed the feeds and speed down and did the cutting very carefully
09:00 PM roycroft: one of the things i love about the shaper origin is how easy it is to tweak things
09:01 PM roycroft: the openings for the aviation connectors i measured while the part was still indexed to the table, and determined that they would be a bit too tight
09:01 PM roycroft: i did not want to spend any time filing brass
09:01 PM Tom_L: pcw--home, http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/Rpi5/SP2.jpg
09:01 PM roycroft: so i told the origin to recut the openings 0.005" bigger
09:01 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/Rpi5/SP3.jpg
09:01 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/Rpi5/SP4.jpg
09:01 PM roycroft: and they fit great now
09:02 PM Tom_L: pcw--home, 3 & 4 is both packets from spi1.jpg
09:02 PM roycroft: 0.003" probably would have been fine, but i'm not trying to make money doing abom-style videos, so a wee bit of slop was fine with me
09:03 PM roycroft: i'll do the cutouts on the other panel tomorrow, and maybe get the box joints done as well then
09:03 PM roycroft: although i'm going to have to a lot of tidying up after the next panel - i need to get all the brass chips totally disappeared from the shop
09:04 PM roycroft: i did not use extraction when cutting the brass - i don't like sucking hot metal chips into a bag full of sawdust that i can't see and could start smoldering
09:04 PM xxcoder: sounds like you need to make portable extractor
09:04 PM xxcoder: something like that woodgear guy did
09:05 PM xxcoder: for stuff besides wood
09:05 PM roycroft: i do have some other shop vacs
09:05 PM roycroft: the only one that is at my house that isn't full of sawdust is full of water
09:06 PM roycroft: which would be safe to suck hot chips into, but would leave a mess to clean up later
09:06 PM xxcoder: I aw 3d printed models that convert those shop vacs into seperator type so you get chips not going into vacuum machine
09:06 PM roycroft: once i'm all settled in i'll have an extractor for metal
09:06 PM xxcoder: saw
09:07 PM roycroft: anyway, i'm really glad i worked on that motion control panel today
09:07 PM roycroft: i've been dreading machining brass with the shaper origin
09:07 PM roycroft: but it went way better than i expected, and now i won't stress over it in the future
09:07 PM pcw--home: Something very odd about those plots, the MOSI data should only change at each clock falling edge and the MISO data should only change on the clock rising edge
09:07 PM roycroft: of course, i'll have the mini-router to do that stuff soon
09:08 PM Tom_L: yeah
09:08 PM roycroft: when that wood is stained dark and the brass is polished up it's going to look great
09:08 PM pcw--home: That is the data should have fewer transitions than the clock
09:09 PM Tom_L: spi1.jpg was the very first plot
09:10 PM Tom_L: i did the others without resetting etc
09:10 PM Tom_L: also this is an old saleae and good for ~24mhz
09:11 PM Tom_L: but it's physically connected
09:12 PM rdtsc: i'm really confused pcw, how the MOSI line's data isn't even being decoded. there's obviously bits toggling
09:17 PM pcw--home: Im confused by the fact that data lines are togging faster than the clock, maybe the clock needs to lowered substantially for the Salae
09:17 PM pcw--home: I suspect its aliased
09:18 PM Tom_L: yeah it's a pretty old saleae.. one of the first models
09:18 PM Tom_L: but i'm not gonna update that for this
09:18 PM Tom_L: $500 min
09:19 PM Tom_L: looks like the clones are old tech too.. 24mhz
09:20 PM pcw--home: probably need a ~10 MHz or slower clock
09:21 PM Tom_L: any way to slow the clock?
09:21 PM Tom_L: can that be done in the rpi config file?
09:21 PM pcw--home: in the hal file
09:21 PM Tom_L: i'm not running hal
09:21 PM Tom_L: this is with mesaflash --readhmid
09:23 PM pcw--home: I thought mesaflash used 8 MHz, but I'm not sure, I'd have to look
09:24 PM pcw--home: in any case data in both directions looks suspect (it really cannot change between clock edges)
09:26 PM pcw--home: I may have some time to poke around tomorrow (I have both RPI4 and 5 running LinuxCNC with 7C80 but I can try a 7I90)
09:26 PM Tom_L: i'm not planning to use it, i just wanted to test it out
09:27 PM Tom_L: but i'd like to see it work
09:27 PM Tom_L: looks like i may be able to set the CDIV with python
09:27 PM Tom_L: clock divider
09:27 PM pcw--home: how long is your cable?
09:28 PM Tom_L: ~1.5-2"
09:29 PM pcw--home: OK should be fine, too long and you would likely get double clocking
09:29 PM Tom_L: right
09:30 PM Tom_L: spi.open(0, 0)
09:30 PM Tom_L: spi.max_speed_hz = 1000000 # Sets speed to 1 MHz
09:31 PM Tom_L: spi.close()
09:31 PM Tom_L: preamble:
09:31 PM Tom_L: python
09:31 PM Tom_L: import spidev
09:31 PM Tom_L: spi = spidev.SpiDev()
09:32 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
09:32 PM Tom_rpi5: i'm gonna rip that windoz button off that keyboard....
09:33 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
09:34 PM pcw--home: The plot looks like 4 MHz but no idea why the RPI and 7I90 data looks wonky
09:35 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
09:36 PM Tom_L: i could try setting it to 10Mhz with that
09:36 PM rdtsc: tom, show the cable pic, maybe some extra grounds need connected or something
09:36 PM Tom_L: it's possible but i've used that cable before
09:37 PM Tom_L: i opened up the 40pin and looked and i'd removed all the pins but the spi & gnd so i'd have to find another one :)
09:38 PM Tom_L: made plugging easier
09:41 PM Tom_L: http://paste.debian.net/1381227/
09:41 PM Tom_L: that's the full bit on that code snip
09:43 PM Tom_L: i wonder if it resets it when you spi.close()
09:44 PM rdtsc: might be able to do something like echo 100000 > /somewhere/somefile but I don't know the details
09:45 PM rdtsc: (to set the device in the device tree)
09:45 PM Tom_L: i'll think on it.. gonna quit on this for tonight
09:45 PM rdtsc: ditto, getting late
09:46 PM Tom_L: wasn't a loss though.. it's sending & receiving something
09:46 PM rdtsc: kinda seems like gobbledy-gook though
09:46 PM Tom_L: yeah
09:48 PM rdtsc: had a USB-3 audio card... got some random USB-2 cable, wouldn't work at all. Bought an expensive one, worked, but not very well... went down a long rabbit hole of cables trying to find one that would work well - device was demanding!
09:49 PM rdtsc: a cable is just a cable... except at high speeds
09:49 PM Tom_L: i know
09:49 PM Tom_L: i could make a board with 2 plugs but i'm not going to
09:50 PM rdtsc: naah not just to test
09:50 PM Tom_L: i haven't had eagle out in years
09:50 PM Tom_L: and i'd have to source plugs etc
09:51 PM Tom_L: most using spi aren't gonna use this board
09:51 PM Tom_L: err most using rpi...
10:28 PM Tom_L: did find some cables i may be able to make another one from
10:32 PM Tom_L: and i found the pins i'd removed
10:32 PM Tom_L: surprised i kept em
