06:07 AM Tom_L: morning
08:59 AM JT-Shop: hmm the forum seems to be down
08:59 AM JT-Shop: actually linuxcnc.org is down
09:00 AM Tom_L: .org works here forum not so much
09:01 AM JT-Shop: aah yes
09:02 AM JT-Shop: and it's back
09:03 AM JT-Shop: hmm forum is real slow, wonder if the disk is full again
09:04 AM Tom_L: dunno
10:07 AM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> What happened to the forum webpages? All I get is an error page.
10:07 AM Tom_L: they're down atm
10:07 AM Tom_L: disk full?
10:07 AM Tom_L: dunno
10:08 AM Tom_L: put a quarter in the can and see if that helps
10:08 AM JT-Cave: I just updated and rebooted the forum so we'll see
10:08 AM * JT-Cave heads to town for a bit
10:08 AM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> just got a buildbotics controller and need to create some probe macros, was hopeing for pointers.
10:09 AM JT-Cave: lots of probe subroutines in Flex GUI
10:09 AM Tom_L: yup
10:09 AM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> Woot, forum back up!
10:10 AM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> _looking for Flex GUI_
10:10 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/flexgui/touch-probe3-2.png
10:10 AM Tom_L: probe routines
10:10 AM JT-Cave: https://gnipsel.com/linuxcnc/flexgui/index.html
10:11 AM JT-Cave: install, copy examples then check out the touch probe 3 example
10:11 AM Tom_L: the readme tells what the variables are for
10:14 AM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> My OneFinity controller got zapped by lightning so I bought Buildbotics, what a world of difference, love it.
10:15 AM Tom_L: linuxcnc is even better
10:18 AM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> Am looking to do that in the near future, right now need to get up and running for some client projects.
10:19 AM Tom_L: it does alot more than most out there
10:19 AM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> /me wondering how hard it would be to repurpose the buildbotics raspberry....
10:19 AM Tom_L: it will run on a rpi4
10:20 AM Tom_L: rpi5 is more responsive
10:20 AM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> i saw that in the repo, sweet
10:20 AM Tom_L: rpi below 4 not so much
10:20 AM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> I only have a couple of 4b right now
10:20 AM Tom_L: i haven't tested the rpi5 yet but others are using it
10:21 AM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> Will look harder at the repo later and investigate
10:21 AM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> thanks for the pointer BTW
10:22 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/flexgui/touch-probe3.png
10:22 AM Tom_L: that tp3 example also has some pre made ops
10:23 AM Tom_L: all in that subroutine folder
11:01 AM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz does not open here, hangs
11:17 AM Tom_L: is 443 blocked on your end?
11:17 AM Tom_L: i moved it fro 80
11:17 AM Tom_L: my isp blocks 80
11:19 AM lcnc-relay: <ccatlett1984@> https / http are both dead here
11:30 AM Tom_L: works here :)
11:31 AM Tom_L: i'll check on it after bit
11:33 AM roycroft: it works from here as well
11:33 AM Tom_L: ok well it isn't what i suspected then
11:33 AM Tom_L: once in a blue moon my dynamic ip changes
11:34 AM roycroft: mine changes when i change equipment
11:34 AM Tom_L: yeah that's about it
11:34 AM roycroft: i call it a "persistent" ip
11:34 AM roycroft: not static, but not quite dynamic
11:35 AM Tom_L: just checked and it's still ok
11:35 AM rdtsc: nothing from here
11:35 AM Tom_L: yall just didn't pay yer dues
11:35 AM roycroft: you have to use the full url
11:36 AM roycroft: including the http://
11:36 AM rdtsc: I should say, nothing unless :443
11:36 AM roycroft: if you're doing that and it still doesn't work it's either on your end, or somewhere in the interwebs
11:36 AM rdtsc: :443 works
11:36 AM Tom_L: that's one of the few ports i can use
11:36 AM rdtsc: better than 666 :
11:36 AM rdtsc: :)
11:37 AM Tom_L: everybody griped about 81 so i moved it
11:37 AM * Tom_L goes back to his chores
11:38 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> roycroft: are you working on your internal IOT network yet ???
11:42 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/ works just fine. it is http, not https, but on port 443
11:42 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> oh, that was stated already...
11:43 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> i am just a little slow sometimes...
11:44 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> my Rpi5 shows up monday, i hope 🙂
11:46 AM Tom_L: where did you order it from? i'm considering getting one
11:48 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> Adafruit.com, they have the 16gb one last i checked
11:48 AM rdtsc: can get one from pishop.us too
11:49 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> https://www.adafruit.com/product/6125 30 in stock for $132
11:49 AM Tom_L: just the board?
11:50 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> yeah, i got the active cooler and power supply too
11:50 AM Tom_L: what about video cords etc?
11:51 AM Tom_L: i assume they're the same as the rpi4
11:51 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> should be, i already have those
11:52 AM Tom_L: 27w psu?
11:52 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> yes
11:53 AM Tom_L: i liked my rpi4 one because it has a switch midway on the cord
11:53 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> Rpi5 has it's own power button
11:53 AM Tom_L: oh
11:55 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> plus solder holes to wire an external button
11:55 AM Tom_L: probably push on push off instead of momentary like a pc
11:56 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> nope, software like a pc. momentary
11:57 AM Tom_L: 8gb should be plenty for lcnc if you can find one
11:58 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> https://www.raspberrypi.com/documentation/computers/raspberry-pi.html#power-button
11:59 AM roycroft: ack
11:59 AM roycroft: i just finished making the final mods to the drawing for my front panel and i remembered that i have that z-touch probe now
11:59 AM Tom_L: https://www.amazon.com/RasTech-Raspberry-Active-Cooler-Readers/dp/B0D2WYFS23
12:00 PM roycroft: and i have to have a way to connect that to the mesa board or the rpi
12:00 PM roycroft: i want to plug it into the front, as that will be the easiest place to reach
12:00 PM * roycroft hopes he has something like a 3mm jack somewhere
12:01 PM roycroft: i guess remembering right before i make the part is better than remembering right after i make the part
12:01 PM Tom_L: cut 2x check 1x errr....
12:11 PM roycroft: i could always have added another hole later, but it would be more difficult and the result likely not as neat
12:11 PM roycroft: better to do it right the first time
12:11 PM roycroft: the rear will have some panel inserts, so that can be easily modified later
03:06 PM Tom_L: mine should arrive tomorrow as well
03:22 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> mine is monday
04:17 PM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> can someone tell my why "(DEBUG, #<_abs_x>, #<_abs_y>, #<_abs_z>)" always returns 0,0,0? I was expecting to get the machine position.
04:19 PM Tom_L: Return current absolute X coordinate (G53) including no offsets.
04:19 PM Tom_L: are you running an offset?
04:20 PM Tom_L: try #<_x> and see what you get
04:20 PM Tom_L: which is the same as #5420
04:21 PM Tom_L: #5420..5422 X Y Z
04:22 PM Tom_L: so you could also try (debug, X #5420 Y #5421 Z #5422)
04:22 PM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> #<_x> and y and z return the expected values
04:22 PM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> _trying that_
04:22 PM Tom_L: same thing
04:23 PM Tom_L: maybe add some commas
04:23 PM Tom_L: maybe not... i forget
04:23 PM Tom_L: leaning toward not...
04:25 PM Tom_L: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/stable/html/gcode/overview.html#gcode:named-parameters
04:27 PM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> can
04:27 PM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> t seem to paste an image here
04:27 PM Tom_L: yup it's a discord irc bridge thing
04:28 PM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> ah, irc, haven't been on that for a long time
04:28 PM Tom_L: i haven't left it for a long time
04:29 PM Tom_L: https://pasteboard.co/
04:29 PM xxcoder: yeah discord gonna cause problems with bridge :( best workaround is just upload to ether other sites or in #off-topic and copy full view image url to paste
04:30 PM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@>...
04:30 PM Tom_L: or join us on irc :)
04:30 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcoder@> seems url was too long, it didnt work across bridge
04:30 PM Tom_L: tinyurl
04:31 PM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> arg, let me shorten it
04:31 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcoder@> 👍
04:31 PM * Tom_L taps his foot patiently
04:32 PM Tom_L: she better be a 10
04:33 PM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> https://drive.google.com/open?id=1-f04BZmCfjaie1UdtlptmsNqS8GzL_js
04:33 PM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> LOL
04:33 PM xxcoder: I see 54. thats way more than 10.
04:35 PM Tom_L: the first line needs a ')'
04:36 PM Tom_L: the number parameters are standard rs274 memory locations
04:38 PM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> They all (DEBUG) have a )
04:39 PM Tom_L: not on my screen
04:39 PM Tom_L: (debug, X #5400 Y #5421
04:39 PM Tom_L: (debug, X #5400 Y #5421)
04:39 PM Tom_L: big difference
04:41 PM Tom_L: the Gcode Messages box is possibly covering it
04:43 PM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> ah, yes it is
04:44 PM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> will play with this later, my grandson just got back from deployment and going to have some dinner and swap war stories.
04:44 PM Tom_L: see how wild that gets
04:44 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> deployment ? where? LA ???
04:45 PM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> depends on how much bourbon is onsumed 🙂 San Diego on the USS Lincoln
04:46 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> a carrier ???? wow,
04:47 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> hope he wasn't on the flight deck..... on of the most dangerous place in the world
04:49 PM Tom_L: gawd what a pita
04:49 PM Tom_L: just to view a .mht file
04:49 PM Tom_L: open chrome (which i never use), print to pdf, open pdf
04:50 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> well, now there
04:50 PM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> roguish000@ No, he's a box cutter, his dad (my oldest) is retired CPO who was with the teams as their comm man.
04:51 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> well, now there is a full war between Israel and Iran...........great gonna get really ugle
04:51 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> ugly
04:52 PM xxcoder: we are trying to lessen politics here so id suggest not go on on that
04:52 PM xxcoder: plenty of ventures out there for that :)
04:52 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> xxcoder: ok, i'll shut up
04:52 PM Tom_L: heh
04:52 PM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> I don't think so, Israel pretty well took out their capabilities I'm guessing.
04:53 PM lcnc-relay: <tgunr@> yeah, laters
04:55 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> ok, here's something less political, and a bit more interesting https://arstechnica.com/cars/2025/06/smart-tires-will-report-on-the-health-of-roads-in-new-pilot-program/
04:55 PM xxcoder: interesting
04:56 PM Tom_L: like tire pressure tech
04:56 PM xxcoder: but bit more. it includes tire wear, road condition etc
04:56 PM Tom_L: sounds expensive
05:20 PM * roycroft is back from town
05:20 PM roycroft: i drove past the no kings protest downtown
05:20 PM roycroft: it was impressive - thousands of people lining the streets for about a mile and a half
05:20 PM roycroft: totally peaceful
05:20 PM roycroft: no blocking traffic
05:20 PM roycroft: and not a single cop was to be seen
05:21 PM roycroft: that's the proper way to protest
05:21 PM roycroft: no matter what your persuasion
05:21 PM xxcoder: we are trying to lessen politics here so id suggest not go on on that.
05:21 PM roycroft: i said nothing political at all
05:22 PM roycroft: i just said that there were people behaving well :)
05:23 PM roycroft: i accomplished my main goal for going in today instead of tomorrow - i was able to get a 3.5mm jack for my controller
05:23 PM roycroft: i arrived at the electronics store 5 minutes before it closed
05:23 PM roycroft: but i made it
05:24 PM xxcoder: nice
05:24 PM roycroft: yes, now i can measure it and finish my front panel design
05:24 PM roycroft: i've been burned too many times making cutouts for parts before having the parts in hand
05:25 PM roycroft: vendor diagrams/dimensions cannot always be trusted
05:25 PM roycroft: but one's own dial caliper can
05:26 PM xxcoder: reminds me of that listing error, 3 mm +- cm
05:26 PM xxcoder: I would love to see negative 7 mm
05:35 PM Tom_L: roycroft likes to ride a fine line
06:17 PM rdtsc: -7mm = big bang
06:58 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Made it to Hayward..
07:51 PM xxcoder: bluntyyax new name for blondihack lol
08:04 PM xxcoder: oh boy. fun video
08:11 PM roycroft: i she she's aboming it tonight, but i haven't watched it yet
10:07 PM firephoto__ is now known as firephoto_
10:45 PM roycroft: someone on the shaper forum got the new shaper ultrasonic cleanre, and tested the shaper-provided (ballistol) cleaning fluid ($180/gallon) vs. zep 505 ($11/gallon)
10:45 PM roycroft: they could not tell any difference
10:45 PM xxcoder: lol knew it
10:47 PM roycroft: i just put zep 505 on my shop supplies list at amazon.com
10:47 PM roycroft: and i already have three ultrasonic cleaners - i do not need another one from shaper
10:50 PM xxcoder: well you're certainly not the fan they are looking for
10:50 PM roycroft: yet they do have a lot of my money
11:37 PM xxcoder: fun robinson video
