12:20 AM xxcoder: wouldnt "easily damaged" be bad for vacuum hold?
12:38 AM roycroft: it will be fine
12:39 AM roycroft: but i won't be able to cut all the way through my parts when using it
12:39 AM roycroft: which is also fine
12:51 AM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> morning
01:37 AM Deejay: moin

04:26 AM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> phah
04:27 AM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> I did the unthinkable
04:27 AM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> put the high speed milling head on the lathe
04:27 AM lcnc-relay: <sodakaustik@> yes i moved the vfd
04:29 AM Tom_L: morning

07:20 AM rdtsc-w: morning... soda's now cooking with gas :)
08:29 AM Unterhausen: There is a post on FB that says mesa wants $280 to ship a card to Aus. DHL has to be cheaper than that, I would think
08:30 AM rdtsc-w: was that with tarriff or something? or FB nonsense
08:57 AM JT-MShop: shipping is expensive but not that expensive... I think it's usually under $60 for me to ship a mesa card to au
09:39 AM roycroft: yeah, but US$60 is like AUD$280, because the australian dollar is worth even less than the canadian dollar :)
09:54 AM JT-MShop: more like aud$91.97
10:05 AM roycroft: yeah, that's more accurate - i was exaggerating a bit
10:06 AM roycroft: but you also have to figure any duties and the cost of expedited shipping, if that's what the person wants
10:06 AM roycroft: i don't know how long it takes to ship things to australia via surface, but i know it's taken almost 3 months to get stuff shipped from australia to me
10:11 AM JT-MShop: everything goes by air and usually takes less than a week
10:19 AM JT-MShop: now the service tech has bailed and the next appointment is at the end of the month wtf

10:22 AM JT-Shop: and the next slot I picked was gone
10:22 AM JT-Shop: wtf

04:14 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> just ordered a Rpi5 - 16GB with some "spare" money... plan to use it as my Lcnc computer replacement, so when that arrives, i may need guidance on setting it all up 🙂 got tired of the big bulky computer for my CNC...
04:14 PM xxcoder: nice
04:15 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> got the active cooler and a power supply too 🙂
04:56 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Brian Wilson, Beach Boy, has left the stage
05:07 PM lcnc-relay: <ccatlett1984@> travis_farmer@: Using what card?
05:39 PM * JT-Shop is pretty happy with the mini pc that is about the size of a cigar box
06:58 PM rdtsc: will likely have an easier time with rpi5 + Ethernet Mesa card than a Rpi host card like the 7C80... one thing to remember, SD cards must be shut down cleanly. insta-power-off will bork the rpi
07:00 PM xxcoder: I guess should use small ups with it
07:01 PM xxcoder: with status so it knows when to shut down safely
07:13 PM Tom_L: rpi5 needs active cooling right?
07:13 PM Tom_L: not just heatsinks
07:25 PM rdtsc: think so... went with custom heatsinks and 60mm fan here to cool the whole board
07:25 PM rdtsc: even put a 25mm heatsink on the FPGA
07:25 PM rdtsc: since I've seen more than a few of them burn up
07:26 PM xxcoder: interesting
07:26 PM rdtsc: NOT mesa cards, just in general
07:26 PM xxcoder: my rpi3 have heat sink and fan
07:27 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> the green machine just has a heatsink case - passive cooling. but that is rpi4
07:28 PM rdtsc: fan is the way to go; once repaired a little guitar amp which had a heat sink bolted fin-side directly to the back panel - zero airflow - made a duct for it and attached a small blower :)
07:34 PM Tom_L: yeah, my rpi4 has passive cooling
07:44 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
07:52 PM Tom_L: has anybody here used M48 & M49?
07:53 PM Tom_L: i wanted to disable feed & Speed override during a rigid tap cycle
07:53 PM xxcoder: errm I meant rpi4 earlier lol
07:53 PM Tom_L: and that looks like it would fit the bill
07:54 PM Tom_L: that or M50 M51 for individual overrides
08:14 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> for sure emphasis on shut down properly
08:15 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> but they eventually all go in the end
08:15 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> thats the main thing i replace accross all my rpi setups
08:16 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> i usually have a master rpi image i use, based on a backup of a good setup i made, then as long as i backup the configs, its pretty seemless to restore a system when the sd card does go
08:17 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> hmm - I should backup my green machine. 🙂
08:17 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> yeah, they all pop eventually. even with clean shutdowns every time
08:18 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Tom_L: during a rigid tapping cycle - I don't think the overrides work anyway
08:18 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> i also dont think they do either
08:19 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420@> for sure not on a fanuc, but i remember testing a lot last summer when i set it up, and i had to edit the file a lot for the rpm
08:59 PM Tom_L: skunkworks, i think it does
08:59 PM Tom_L: i was doing some testing and had the spindle override basically off and ran the tap cycle
09:00 PM Tom_L: something was definitely off with it until i realized the overrides were where they were
09:01 PM Tom_L: i'll do further testing tomorrow
10:50 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Oh... Spindle override might still work .
10:50 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Maybe
