03:05 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> Morning... oh hey, i think i JUST saw a coyote trot by on the security camera... must have been following a deer trail
04:42 AM Tom_L: morning
05:24 AM Deejay: hi
09:07 AM roycroft: it's another lovely day in paradise
09:08 AM roycroft: but it is warming up rapidly
09:22 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://xkcd.com/3086
10:55 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> it's not on the helper springs yet.. So I can put more in there..
10:55 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/anW73mYegffJN4Tw5
12:04 PM xxcoder: ugh hot already
12:05 PM roycroft: i just finished a dns change for a customer's web developer
12:05 PM roycroft: it's amazing how folks can design really nice websites but have no clue how to get them hosted
12:05 PM roycroft: anyway, i can step out for minute now
12:05 PM roycroft: i need to see if the shop is heating up so i can turn on the ac when that happens
12:05 PM xxcoder: make sure its just a min, or you will get cooked
12:06 PM roycroft: not yet, i think
12:06 PM roycroft: but soon, if i don't turn on the ac
12:06 PM roycroft: it's 25 degrees already
12:07 PM roycroft: a couple hours ago it was 13
12:07 PM roycroft: so it's getting hot fast
12:11 PM roycroft: it was 23 in the shop, so the shop hadn't caught up to the outside temp yet
12:11 PM roycroft: the ac is on, and set to 22, which should be fine
12:11 PM roycroft: i'll see this afternoon how well it works
12:20 PM xxcoder: hopefully there wont be snow
12:20 PM xxcoder: inside shop
12:20 PM roycroft: i'm fairly confident that will not happen
12:21 PM roycroft: 28 outside now
12:21 PM roycroft: it's getting really hot really fast, just like yesterday
12:22 PM xxcoder: yep. faster really. yeerday morning wasnt too bad, but today im already using fan
12:22 PM roycroft: it was about this time yesterday that i went to the storage unit, thinking i'd get that done before the heat of the day
12:22 PM roycroft: i was so wrong
12:37 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> it is cold here.. 58
12:39 PM Tom_L: brrrr
12:54 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
12:54 PM Unterhausen: I was setting up to work on the porch and a very friendly rat snake came up on the porch with me.
12:54 PM Unterhausen: not a big fan of snakes on the porch
12:54 PM Tom_L: nope me euther
12:54 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> what about snakes on a plane?
12:54 PM Tom_L: either
12:54 PM xxcoder: in least its not snakes in plane. that was very good bad movie
12:54 PM Tom_L: recently had a water mocasin in the drive
12:54 PM Tom_L: i think it followed my kid home from work
12:54 PM Tom_L: on his truck
12:54 PM xxcoder: probably smelled a rat and wanted it. (you) ;)
12:57 PM rdtsc-w: sounds like nightmare material
12:58 PM Tom_L: don't water after midnight
12:58 PM xxcoder: you mean feed lol
12:58 PM xxcoder: dont dip in water at any time
12:58 PM Tom_L: that
12:59 PM xxcoder: which makes me wonder, does it mean theyre seriously overpopulated each time theres rain?
01:01 PM roycroft: the old house is a couple blocks from amazon creek
01:05 PM Unterhausen: I have 3 neighbors with snake habitat in their yard, so it's not surprising to see snakes.
01:14 PM roycroft: but the house itself is well out of the flood zone, and there's no indication that the neutrias ever went near the creek
01:14 PM roycroft: but they are semi-aquatic animals generally
01:14 PM roycroft: it appears that they are moving beyond that range
01:14 PM roycroft: we have little snakes here, but we did in the valley too
01:15 PM roycroft: in fact i don't remember every living anywhere where there were no snakes
01:15 PM roycroft: but i've also never lived around poisonous snakes
01:15 PM Unterhausen: There are rattlesnakes across main street from here, a little too close for my taste
01:16 PM Unterhausen: Supposedly copperheads even closer, but I have never seen one of those
01:17 PM roycroft: there are rattlesnakes in southern and eastern oregon, but nowhere near here
01:17 PM roycroft: that may change as the climate continues to get hotter and drier here
01:17 PM Unterhausen: I was not aware there were rattlesnakes in Pennsylvania until recently, but they were here before we were
01:17 PM roycroft: but they're far away now, so it will probably be decades before they show up here
01:18 PM * roycroft will likely be long dead before the rattlesnakes move in
01:18 PM Unterhausen: apparently rat snakes and rattlesnakes are best buds and will overwinter with each other
01:20 PM Unterhausen: mostly worried about them moving in or gnawing on one of the dogs requiring a vet visit.
01:21 PM Unterhausen: also, I'm going to go work on the porch with shoes on, instead of crocs
01:21 PM roycroft: 33 outside now, but 26 in the shop
01:21 PM roycroft: not as cool as i'd like, but still quute tolerable
01:22 PM roycroft: and the ac unit is not set up at all efficiently yet - i'll work on that later
01:22 PM xxcoder: is shop isulated?
01:22 PM roycroft: it's sitting on the floor, with the big duct hose going up through the window
01:22 PM roycroft: partially
01:22 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> we have wood chucks. and rabits
01:22 PM roycroft: i need to finish insulating it soon
01:22 PM xxcoder: you probably want to isulate the exit hose
01:23 PM roycroft: making the duct hose as short as possible will help a lot
01:23 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> rabbits
01:23 PM roycroft: my plan is to build a shelf at window level for the ac unit
01:23 PM xxcoder: each summer I used old blanket, wrap around the exit hose
01:23 PM roycroft: that will allow for a very short duct hose, and also give me back some floor space
01:23 PM xxcoder: inlet hose too
01:23 PM roycroft: and then yes, i'll insulate around the hose once i get it mounted in the shelf
01:23 PM roycroft: i expect it will work significantly better after that
01:23 PM Unterhausen: now I wonder if the snake was going after our crop of baby birds
01:24 PM xxcoder: blanket wasnt exactly best isulation but yeah
01:24 PM roycroft: but today is just to see if it works decently or not
01:24 PM roycroft: and it's already working well enough that i know i'll keep it and not return/exchange it
01:26 PM rdtsc-w: missus wants a pool heater... I'll end up running hundreds of feet of black tubing on the shed roof. then that means some way to turn the flow on and off, then temperature-sensing and automatic control
01:26 PM xxcoder: I guess also a method to drain it for winter
01:27 PM rdtsc-w: air compressor :)
01:28 PM xxcoder: I wonder if wolfbox blower could do it lol
01:29 PM xxcoder: its been great tool for me so far.
01:29 PM xxcoder: almost like air compressor blower, but without compressor
01:29 PM xxcoder: and without any wires
01:30 PM rdtsc-w: 150krpm, whoa
01:31 PM xxcoder: yeah. I decided to get cheaper used one. its great
01:32 PM xxcoder: mf100
01:55 PM roycroft: i use air to flush irrigation lines to winterize them
02:10 PM JT-Shop: so google called me to fix a problem their ai identified with my site ROFLMAO
02:12 PM JT-Shop: probably because I block their stupid shopping ai from placing fake orders LOL at google
02:12 PM bjorkint0sh: was it an actual problem?
02:12 PM JT-Shop: very much
02:12 PM JT-Shop: stupid placed a bunch of orders tying up stock every night
02:13 PM JT-Shop: then I have delete all the failed orders every day
02:13 PM JT-Shop: so a pia for me and blocked orders when an item was low in stock
02:15 PM JT-Shop: blocked actual orders when an item was low stock
02:20 PM roycroft: what did they have to say when you told them why you block them?
02:20 PM * roycroft guesses they cannot conceive of anyone wanting to intentionally block them
02:20 PM roycroft: utter dumbfoundedness would be my expected reaction from them
02:25 PM xxcoder: the worse ones in general is ai people trying to scape all sites for modeling data
02:27 PM roycroft: if they want my data for their modeling i'd be more than happy to discuss my fee for allowing them access to my data
02:27 PM JT-Shop: well I never answer my phone unless the call is from someone that is in my contacts
02:27 PM roycroft: otherwise they can fuck right off
02:28 PM JT-Shop: and if they don't leave a message they get blocked
02:28 PM JT-Shop: absolutely my feelings as well
02:29 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> why was it doing that? placing orders?
02:29 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> for what purpose?
02:30 PM Tom_L: if they don't speak on the first 'hello' i hang up
02:30 PM rdtsc-w: when I got my first "
02:31 PM JT-Shop: google for some reason thinks I have my products on google market something so they are price checking
02:31 PM rdtsc-w: smart" phone, I setup a google voice number... that's what everyone has... it can block nearly anything
02:32 PM rdtsc-w: love it when phone rings and caller is identified as "Likely Spam" lol
02:32 PM JT-Shop: I get that too
02:33 PM JT-Shop: I never answer a call that's not in my contacts
02:33 PM rdtsc-w: sure, might miss a rogue call from the dr's office... but they will leave a message anyways
02:33 PM JT-Shop: exactly a dr office will always leave a message
02:35 PM JT-Shop: I don't remember what I turned on to get likely spam...
02:37 PM rdtsc-w: The middle kid made this their voicemail message... "Hey! ... ... ... Just kidding, leave a message." lol, slightly evil
02:39 PM JT-Shop: how did he leave an ellipse?
02:41 PM bjorkint0sh: paused
02:41 PM bjorkint0sh: 3 second pause: one second for each dot.
02:41 PM JT-Shop: ah
02:42 PM JT-Shop: and the space?
02:42 PM bjorkint0sh: s/ //g
02:42 PM JT-Shop: so you can type in the voicemail message?
02:42 PM bjorkint0sh: hahahah no.
02:42 PM bjorkint0sh: but one can be recorded typing.
02:43 PM JT-Shop: ah
02:43 PM * bjorkint0sh has a very noisy keyboard. clickety clack all day long.
02:43 PM JT-Shop: I've never created one
03:19 PM roycroft: grr
03:19 PM roycroft: i ran into that grouping issue again
03:19 PM * roycroft needs to really refine his autocad -> affinity designer -> shaper origin workflow
03:22 PM roycroft: sly stone has left the building
03:27 PM bjorkint0sh: I didn't realize Frederick Forsyth was even still alive, let alone Sly Stone.
03:36 PM roycroft: sly was a great musician, but a horrible human being
03:37 PM roycroft: his wife beating days probably ended a while back, as he was 81 when he passed, but it's still good to not have him on the streets any more
03:39 PM xxcoder: 89f now. so fun
03:39 PM xxcoder: im living swamp cooler
03:41 PM roycroft: it's a lot hotter than that her
03:41 PM roycroft: e
03:41 PM roycroft: 37c right now
03:42 PM roycroft: body temperature
03:42 PM roycroft: except i'm a cool dude
03:42 PM roycroft: my normal body temperature is 36.4
03:42 PM roycroft: the record high for the day was 32
03:42 PM roycroft: we blew way past that
03:43 PM xxcoder: if we had high humidity like pretty lot of world summers, that would be real nasty
03:43 PM xxcoder: web bulb temp
03:43 PM roycroft: yeah, humidity is 25% here right now
03:44 PM roycroft: which makes it somewhat tolerable
03:44 PM xxcoder: *wet
03:44 PM roycroft: i should clean up my fan cutout drawing while waiting for a customer to get back to me
03:45 PM rdtsc-w: xxcoder has a swamp heater
03:45 PM xxcoder: I dont.
03:46 PM rdtsc-w: gosh I hope not... high humidity at any temp is not fun
03:52 PM roycroft: well it just happened
03:52 PM roycroft: the marines were just deployed to los angeles
03:52 PM roycroft: posse comitatus is now a farce
03:53 PM roycroft: and we are a police state
04:04 PM bjorkint0sh: we still haven't hit bottom yet.
04:04 PM roycroft: we're close
04:04 PM roycroft: well below the floor that nixon established
04:05 PM bjorkint0sh: his rabid supporters have not been innoculated yet. high prices are still being blamed on the previous regime, for instance. which is just so stupid I want to smash my head in.
04:06 PM bjorkint0sh: but cooler heads prevail.
04:06 PM roycroft: so here's some interesting trivia that i just learned (and would never have guessed)
04:07 PM roycroft: what was the busiest day ever for pizza deliveries in the us?
04:07 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:07 PM bjorkint0sh: yesterday?
04:07 PM bjorkint0sh: I wouldn't know.
04:08 PM roycroft: the day of the oj car chase
04:08 PM bjorkint0sh: hahahahahah
04:08 PM bjorkint0sh: why?
04:08 PM xxcoder: staying home to watch news I guess
04:08 PM * JT-Shop exits stage left
04:08 PM roycroft: it happened at dinner time in much of the country
04:08 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> everyone was glued to the tiv
04:08 PM roycroft: yes
04:08 PM roycroft: the whole nation were glued to their tvs
04:09 PM bjorkint0sh: but he couldn't possibly get that far. I mean, most high speed chases fail.
04:09 PM roycroft: yes
04:09 PM roycroft: and low speed chases fail even more
04:09 PM bjorkint0sh: haha of course.
04:09 PM roycroft: but it was oj
04:10 PM xxcoder: I remember that riciously low speed car chase few years ago
04:10 PM xxcoder: cops couldnt stop that one
04:10 PM roycroft: it was over 30 years ago
04:10 PM roycroft: believe it or not
04:10 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> stop
04:10 PM roycroft: 1994
04:10 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> ugh
04:10 PM bjorkint0sh: no.
04:10 PM bjorkint0sh: 30 years ago was like, the '70s.
04:11 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol
04:11 PM bjorkint0sh: people wore vintage clothing back then: https://www.myvintage.uk/1970s
04:12 PM * roycroft was a mod in the late '60s, but turned into a hippie by the '70s
04:13 PM roycroft: this is so frustrating - i can't figure out what i'm doing different to the other day
04:14 PM roycroft: i went back to autocad, undid my polar array, created a group for each shape, redid the array, confirmed that every object was a group
04:14 PM roycroft: then imported into affinity designer again
04:14 PM roycroft: where each object was broken down into lines and curves again
04:15 PM roycroft: making them incompatible with the shaper origin
04:15 PM roycroft: they need to stay as objects/shapes
04:15 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I have had problems with a lot of dxf software - a lot of software doesn't like polylines.. I would have to explode everything
04:15 PM roycroft: i'm importing dwg
04:15 PM roycroft: maybe i did dfx the other day
04:15 PM roycroft: dxf
04:15 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> ah - but could still try exploding the drawing or polylining it..
04:16 PM roycroft: it seems every time i do this i have to figure it out from scratch, and then when i get it figured out, i think it's pretty straightforward and not worth documenting the work flow
04:16 PM roycroft: today i decided it's worth documenting the work flow
04:16 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol - have been there..
04:16 PM xxcoder: time to doc all
04:17 PM roycroft: yes, i'm going to write up a step-by-step procedure
04:19 PM roycroft: so a fashion writer published an article stating that j d vance's pant legs are too thin, causing them to rise up when he sits (which is true - there are heaps of pictures showing this)
04:19 PM roycroft: vance is trying to get him deported for that
04:20 PM xxcoder: I'm just waiting for them to come down to me
04:22 PM * roycroft will try saving to dxf and hopes that might make a difference
04:24 PM bjorkint0sh: i bet the difference is dxf.
04:24 PM bjorkint0sh: I think dwg is still proprietary.
04:24 PM bjorkint0sh: whereas dxf is just a lisp file.
04:24 PM roycroft: it is, but affinity designer still does a good job of importing
04:24 PM roycroft: other than the shapes issue
04:24 PM xxcoder: lol I have long forgotten how dxf works
04:24 PM rdtsc-w: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/u_P18MiHMxU the end is near LOL
04:25 PM xxcoder: I made a ldraw to dxf convertor ages ago
04:25 PM xxcoder: and more recently, obj one
04:25 PM bjorkint0sh: the robot voice sounds like Peggy Hill.
04:25 PM roycroft: the dxf file still imports as lines and curves, not shapes/objects
04:26 PM roycroft: the new king of the hill series should be coming out next year
04:26 PM bjorkint0sh: looking forward to it. been rewatching old episodes lately, and the damned thing is funny as hell.
04:26 PM roycroft: sadly, probably without the original voice of john redcorn, as he was just murdered in a homophobic hate crime
04:27 PM roycroft: but he had recorded most of his voiceovers prior to his killing, so we may get him for the first season of the reboot
04:27 PM roycroft: yeeee-up
04:27 PM bjorkint0sh: :-(
04:44 PM Tom_L: i guess children need reminding this isn't a political forum
04:45 PM Tom_L: it was brought to my attention
04:46 PM Tom_L: i could get nasty like i did on chatjunkies and start kicking but feel we are (for the most part) all adults here
04:47 PM roycroft: ok, this is weird and i don't understand it but i have a work flow now
04:48 PM roycroft: in autocad i do have to convert the lines into groups and save as dxf
04:48 PM roycroft: but they get exploded again when i import them into ad 2
04:48 PM roycroft: i have to select all, and then apply the shape builder tool, and then they convert back to shapes
04:49 PM roycroft: but if i do not group them in autocad in the first place the shape builder tool does not convert them into shapes
04:50 PM * roycroft documents that but still thinks it's stupid
04:50 PM roycroft: and the shop is warm but not hot, so if i can stand to walk out there again after work i can do a test cut
05:29 PM xxcoder: outside 89f, inside 93f. fun
05:38 PM xxcoder: I hav been spraying water on myself for hours, using up nearly full large cup of water, yet humidity went down from 41% to 36%
05:39 PM xxcoder: oops I lied, its 35% now lol
05:53 PM roycroft: the shop is getting hot, but not nearly as hot as outside
05:53 PM roycroft: and 1. i still have to mount the ac unit so that the exhaust duct is shorter
05:53 PM roycroft: 2. i then have to insulate what's left of the exhaust duct
05:54 PM roycroft: and 3. the shop walls are only about 1/3 insulated, and the roof not at all insulated
05:54 PM roycroft: so i think i can make significant improvements
05:54 PM roycroft: i just did a test cut of the new fan cutout, and this time i did the machining on both sides of the board
05:55 PM roycroft: the cuts were perfect, but the back was offset from the front
05:55 PM roycroft: i obviously have some work to do on indexing parts on the shaper table
05:55 PM roycroft: the offset was 1/4" in both x and y, which happens to be the diameter of the indexing pin
05:56 PM roycroft: so it's probably something stupid that i did on one side or the other
05:58 PM Tom_L: i've used alignment holes on parts when they wouldn't quite fit in the mill 'box'
06:02 PM roycroft: that would not help me
06:03 PM roycroft: there is a gridding tool built into the shaper origin
06:03 PM roycroft: i'm just not using it right, obviously
06:03 PM Tom_L: just set a G54 offset :)
06:04 PM roycroft: or learn to use it correctly
06:05 PM roycroft: i think i'll make a really simple design, like a square, and cut it halfway through from both sides as a test
06:05 PM roycroft: until i figure out how to index parts correctly
06:15 PM Tom_L: good idea
06:16 PM roycroft: it might not even be me
06:17 PM roycroft: the rectangle probe function is a new feature that just came out in the latest os release
06:17 PM roycroft: it might be buggy
06:17 PM roycroft: but i need to determine that, and if it is buggy then i need to use a different method
06:18 PM Tom_L: sounds like their 'new features' aren't quite polished when they release them
06:18 PM Tom_L: like the demo you saw
06:18 PM roycroft: they sometimes are not
06:19 PM roycroft: in defense of that demo, that is not released code - it's early beta code
06:19 PM Tom_L: ahh
06:19 PM roycroft: but there have been bugs in their release code in the past
06:19 PM Tom_L: in field debugging
06:20 PM roycroft: my recliner is not reclining
06:20 PM * roycroft looks at the kittens and wants to know what they did
06:20 PM Tom_L: lever stuck?
06:21 PM Tom_L: what was that cnc thing sears put out years back?
06:21 PM Tom_L: you ever hear of that?
06:21 PM roycroft: they unplugged it, and i don't know how they figured that out
06:22 PM roycroft: i have not heard about that
06:22 PM Tom_L: better check the cord
06:22 PM roycroft: it does not appear to be chewed on
06:22 PM roycroft: but the recliner is not made by apple, so it probably doesn't have the cat attraction juice embedded in it
06:23 PM xxcoder: thats misconception, cats like expensive stuff, which apple stuff always is, but there is other expensive stuff
06:24 PM roycroft: well grey poupon tastes better than heinz
06:24 PM Tom_L: https://www.sears.com/search=cnc%20router
06:24 PM Tom_L: i think it was prior to that
06:25 PM roycroft: they went dowhill when they stopped selling house kits
06:25 PM Tom_L: and i honestly don't remember much about it other than they had something
06:25 PM xxcoder: they downgraded tools so many times
06:25 PM xxcoder: then wondered why they got less and less customers
06:25 PM roycroft: yeah
06:25 PM roycroft: i bought most of my craftsman mechanic's tools when they were still good and still made in usa
06:26 PM xxcoder: my bro was huge sears fan. not for quite a while now.
06:26 PM roycroft: now i have to pay for brands like proto and snap-on, because modern craftsman is shite
06:26 PM Tom_L: i was mostly snapon with a few craftsman mixed in
06:27 PM roycroft: and now i have a half dozen or so ratchets with a 'lifetime guarantee' that are in various modes of failure but that i cannot get replaced
06:27 PM Tom_L: i can't afford them now
06:27 PM rdtsc: funny, just decided to replace missing M10 and M11 S-K SuperChrome wrench...
06:27 PM Tom_L: or rathere won't afford them
06:27 PM roycroft: i guess i thought that 'lifetime guarantee' meant my lifetime, not sears'
06:27 PM roycroft: and that sears would probably outlast me
06:38 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I have some really old craftsman that are really good. I remember dad complaining about the quality around the mid to late 80's
06:39 PM xxcoder: yeah I recall them starting to chip down on quality then
06:39 PM xxcoder: wasnt too bad till 90s
06:39 PM xxcoder: then way down in 2000
06:39 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> he bent a breaker bar and took it back.. after he got the replacement one - he bent it around in a circle and took it back.
06:42 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> he was told he was abusing it. (he did it by hand)
06:42 PM xxcoder: butteralloy
06:47 PM rdtsc: was probably the 5% lead or pot-metal content
06:49 PM xxcoder: nah 5% butter
06:50 PM rdtsc: well they do say that butter makes everything better
06:50 PM xxcoder: they forgot the addenium "except metal"
06:51 PM rdtsc: it would be interesting to probe the metal with an x-ray scintillator, a hand-held device which can report exactly what is in it and at what percentages
06:52 PM xxcoder: probably have to strip some of cheap chrome off surface
06:54 PM rdtsc: yep, ouch... www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=X-MET8000 19k used
07:35 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/mTF8D7D8LutTV9K3A
07:36 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> well - I think the truck is loaded.. One side is on the hepler spings.
07:36 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> springs
07:36 PM xxcoder: lathe or truck?
07:36 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> truck
07:36 PM xxcoder: truck im pretty sure lol
07:36 PM xxcoder: ah ok lol
07:37 PM xxcoder: funny that the red case kinda looks like lathe
07:37 PM xxcoder: with control on top levers for gear shift
07:37 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> oh.. no - engine/transmission from in the fork lift
07:37 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> they are now separated
07:40 PM xxcoder: whats your plan with it? rebuild?
07:41 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol.. no
07:43 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Going to scrap
07:43 PM rdtsc: can't save 'em all
07:44 PM xxcoder: indeed
07:49 PM Tom_L: hope the dump bed works when you get there
07:58 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> it did the last 2 times
07:58 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> 3 times?
07:59 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> it is pretty basic. Pto pump goes directly to the cylinder and the valve is on the back of the cylinder
08:00 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> hardest part is engauging the pto.. There is no lever yet - so I can use a crow bar to pop it in.
08:01 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I just don't want to run it down the road engaged.
08:15 PM roycroft: the indicators for my cnc controller have arrived
08:15 PM roycroft: folks in the comments were complaining that the amber lamp was very dim compared to the red and green ones
08:16 PM roycroft: i'm pretty sure they are on crack, because i plugged them all in next to each other and they seem to be equally bright
08:17 PM xxcoder: that or yellow fades faser
08:17 PM xxcoder: faster
08:17 PM roycroft: possibly, but neon lamps usually last many thousands of hours
08:17 PM xxcoder: yeah. where is color from though? the freq of neon itself, or coating to colorize light?
08:18 PM roycroft: and i have amber neon indicators on several of my machines, and they are on whenever the machine is plugged in
08:18 PM roycroft: probably from the bezel
08:19 PM roycroft: once i get this indexing issue with the shaper origin resolved i'll be ready to start building the controller cabinet
08:19 PM roycroft: i decided that the rpi will live inside, and i have hdmi and usb chassis mount jacks arriving in a couple days
08:19 PM xxcoder: hmm well it should be fine for plenty of hourslol
08:21 PM roycroft: i am pretty sure i already have more money invested in the controller for that mini-router than the entire machine would cost
08:22 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> but - it will be really nice
08:22 PM xxcoder: lol indeed. even if you bought router rather than get it from me
08:22 PM roycroft: well it would work fine with the grbl controller that it came with
08:22 PM roycroft: but i want to learn more about linuxcnc before building the bigger router
08:23 PM xxcoder: it never had any grbl controller
08:23 PM roycroft: this provides a perfect opportunity to do that
08:23 PM roycroft: oh, that wasn't grbl?
08:23 PM roycroft: well whatever it was
08:23 PM xxcoder: yah. linuxcnc pc was donated to electric junk a while ago
08:23 PM roycroft: aah
08:23 PM roycroft: i just got the bob and spindle controller board, as you know well
08:24 PM roycroft: i just figured that it came with a grbl controller originally, as most of those "engraver" machines do
08:24 PM xxcoder: yeah. I bought electrics and frame seperately
08:24 PM roycroft: and i'm probably ready for another money sink
08:25 PM roycroft: i bought vectric cut2d a couple years ago for the eventual cnc router
08:25 PM xxcoder: maybe time to change to time sink. cheaper lol
08:25 PM roycroft: but i might want to upgrade that to vcarve
08:25 PM roycroft: so i can do 2.5d stuff
08:26 PM roycroft: fortunately vectric have a zero loss upgrade path - if i upgrade i just pay the difference between what i have and what i upgrade to
08:26 PM xxcoder: nice
08:26 PM roycroft: yeah, so many vendors charge a premium for that
08:27 PM roycroft: it's why i don't understand when beginner cnc router folks shell out the money for aspire when they won't need it for a long time, if ever
08:27 PM roycroft: vcarve (2.5d) is about $350
08:27 PM roycroft: aspire (full 3d) is $2k
08:28 PM roycroft: all the vectric products ship with a linuxcnc preamble, btw
08:29 PM xxcoder: thats pretty cool
08:29 PM roycroft: the only major thing i don't like about their software is that it's windows-only
08:29 PM roycroft: but that's the case with a lot of software
08:29 PM xxcoder: I never really went deep into cam sid
08:29 PM roycroft: well i shouldn't have to go really deep into it
08:29 PM xxcoder: only made few gcode, some hand written, some from freecad and one from estlcam
08:30 PM roycroft: once i define my machine parameters and tell it i'm using linuxcnc it should generate gcode that i can just load and run
08:31 PM roycroft: i do plan on learning gcode a lot better though - i anticipate that a significant amount of the jobs i run on the mini-router, and probably even moreso on the bigger router, don't require any cad work at all
08:31 PM roycroft: just conversational mode
08:31 PM roycroft: and if i ever get my mill/drill converted to cnc that will apply even more
08:33 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I do a substantial amount of manual gcode
08:33 PM roycroft: on the mill/drill i anticipate most of the jobs will be conversational mode
08:33 PM roycroft: square something up, cut some pockets, maybe drill and tap a bolt circle
08:33 PM roycroft: none of that requires cad
08:34 PM roycroft: making a throttle body
08:34 PM roycroft: get your cad software ready
08:34 PM roycroft: i don't plan on making throttle bodies
08:34 PM * roycroft decides to make dinner
08:35 PM xxcoder: lol had yought. way too hot to cook
08:35 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Grilled chicken earlier
09:00 PM * Tom_L thinks skunkworks' gcode can be a bit off the wall based on some of the square peg round hole stuff he comes up with
09:07 PM roycroft: i made pasta
09:08 PM roycroft: artichoke bottom/mushroom/onion fettuccini in olive oil and lemon juice
09:10 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> The gcode part was easy.. the half component was the hard part
09:53 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Hal
10:28 PM xxcoder: finally using less and less water
