01:56 AM Deejay: moin
04:38 AM BorgPipe_ is now known as NetPipe
04:44 AM NetPipe: are we allowed to post image tools here for CNC stuff ? i just remade kai's power goo with gpt
04:44 AM Tom_L: morning
04:44 AM NetPipe: qt and c++ github link, morning
04:53 AM NetPipe: https://github.com/netpipe/QtPowerGoo/blob/main/screenshot.png its different than photoshop even for its ability to smear and pinch hard
08:56 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
09:23 AM JT-Shop: at one time I had a list of boards that fit into my 76 1/2" trailer width without cutting...
11:36 AM rdtsc: well the rpi5 is toast; I accidentally upgraded the kernel (and removed the linuxcnc one), by doing an apt dist-upgrade instead of an apt upgrade. d'oh!
11:37 AM Tom_L: how is that toast?
11:37 AM Tom_L: put a different sd in
11:37 AM Tom_L: and we all know what backups are....
11:38 AM rdtsc: and re-setup SSH, and python3, and qt5/6, and rtl8821cu driver, and...
11:38 AM Tom_L: iirc, it did take you a while to get to that point with it..
11:38 AM Tom_L: but now you know how :)
11:38 AM rdtsc: some stuff can be scp off of it, but reconfig is slow and hard
11:39 AM Tom_L: take good notes, i may get one eventually to test with
11:39 AM rdtsc: . o O (Thinks up a script to do all this for him next time...)
11:39 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> ? you can just throw the microsd into a computer and pull the files off of it..
11:39 AM Tom_L: i've also done that a time or three
11:40 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> same.. once or a hundred times..
11:40 AM roycroft: i am finding lots of electronics on ebay that ship from china and claim that all duties and fees are paid
11:40 AM roycroft: does anyone have recent experience with that?
11:40 AM Tom_L: skunkworks, i'm still waiting for your in depth report of how much you like flexgui :D
11:41 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Tom_L: sorry.. I want to..
11:41 AM roycroft: i don't see how that could be the case unless they ship through a us-based broker who interecepts the shipments, pays the tariff, and then reships
11:41 AM Tom_L: you know he did an 'axis' like gui for it
11:41 AM roycroft: de minimus is gone now
11:41 AM Tom_L: pretty darn close
11:41 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> My daughter bought stuff from temu(sp) and everthing came without any issues.
11:41 AM * roycroft is shopping for parts for the minirouter controller, so is actually on topic again
11:41 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> what I paid is what I paid
11:41 AM Tom_L: roy, they smuggle them in with the drug shipments now
11:42 AM roycroft: was it shipped from the us or was it shipped fromchina, skunkworks8841?
11:42 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> china
11:42 AM roycroft: hmm
11:42 AM Tom_L: i hope they get past that pissin contest soon
11:42 AM roycroft: it still doesn't make much sense to me, but i supposed that since they advertise that on ebay i have their buyer protection plan
11:42 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> actually - the first order all got canceled and re-funded. The second order went through without a hitch about a week later.
11:43 AM roycroft: it's not a pissing contest at all
11:43 AM rdtsc: watch, they took the trillions of dollars they make and built under-sea shipping tunnels
11:43 AM roycroft: it's a way for dear leader and his rich friends to profit from the volatile stock market, when they know ahead of time exactly what is going to happen
11:44 AM roycroft: it's not going to end until he's dead or out of office
11:44 AM roycroft: the latter may not be until the former happens
11:44 AM roycroft: but you're getting me off topic now :)
11:44 AM Tom_L: yeah but we don't wanna get into that now do we?
11:44 AM Tom_L: :)
11:44 AM roycroft: i just don't know what to expect
11:45 AM roycroft: if i buy something and pay $25, i don't want a $47 bill for it when it shows up
11:45 AM Tom_L: eu is used to that
11:45 AM roycroft: unfortunately i'm having a hard time finding what i need in stock in the usa
11:45 AM roycroft: but it's predictable in the eu
11:45 AM roycroft: or has been, until very recently
11:46 AM Tom_L: but that's what makes life so interesting
11:46 AM roycroft: if i knew what i needed was going to cost $72 that would be one thing
11:46 AM roycroft: but being told it would cost $25 and then finding out it's $72 is quite another
11:46 AM Tom_L: ^^
11:46 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol
11:47 AM Tom_L: kinda like going to the ER and getting a bil a year later
11:47 AM roycroft: yup
11:47 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I have the car as far as I can get it until parts..
11:47 AM roycroft: except allegedly i know up front now what the er cost will be, as medicare has negotiated that
11:47 AM Tom_L: skunkworks, you do have a cnc ya know...
11:47 AM roycroft: btw, my hospital bills have all been processed now
11:48 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> hood latch and bumper cover support bracket.. I think
11:48 AM roycroft: but i have not personally been billed for my copay yet
11:48 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Tom - I thought about it.. But that would be a lot of machining.
11:48 AM Tom_L: i'm not looking forward to her pacemaker incident to start rolling in here
11:48 AM roycroft: and i do not have an itemized bill, nor it seems, access to it
11:48 AM roycroft: the insurance company tells me to get my records from the hospital
11:48 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> This was pretty cool..
11:48 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbWcgepRmY4
11:48 AM roycroft: the hospital tells me never to contact them again
11:49 AM roycroft: anyway
11:49 AM roycroft: i'm shopping for some switches and relays
11:49 AM Tom_L: that day alone was spent in 'immediate care' then to the ER and they sent her by ambulance to the ICU
11:49 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> they you should tell them - I don't have to pay you
11:49 AM roycroft: what sucks is that i already have everything that i need, but it's all 240v, not 120v
11:50 AM roycroft: it's actually cheaper to be admitted than to visit the er as an outpatient
11:50 AM roycroft: oddly
11:50 AM roycroft: but that's what medicare have negotiated
11:50 AM Tom_L: the ER here was tied to the hospital so at least the paperwork was done by then
11:50 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yah - at work we are told - don't go to the emergeny unless it is a real emergency..
11:50 AM Tom_L: just across town
11:50 AM Tom_L: this was
11:50 AM roycroft: sure, except millions of people are getting kicked off medicaid now
11:51 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yep
11:51 AM roycroft: so their primary care will all be the er
11:51 AM roycroft: and they're too poor to pay the bill
11:51 AM roycroft: so the hospital will eat it
11:51 AM roycroft: and cost everyone else more money
11:51 AM Tom_L: i pay a 'clinic' for stupid shit like recurring drugs etc
11:51 AM roycroft: if we kept them on medicaid the cost to society would be much lower
11:52 AM Tom_L: cheaper for that than the alternative
11:52 AM roycroft: we decided as a society decades ago that we do not want hospitals turning people away who can't pay
11:52 AM Tom_L: so we pay instead
11:52 AM roycroft: unless we revisit that, it's stupid to take medicaid away from people
11:53 AM roycroft: anyway
11:53 AM roycroft: it's really frustrating shopping for electronics components right now, especially since i'm on a pretty tight budget
11:54 AM roycroft: i have the switches that i need in stock, but they're only rated to 1a, so i need some relays
11:54 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> wait - you don't have a full second level full of relays and stuff?
11:54 AM roycroft: i could run the mini-router on 240v, although that is completely unnecessary
11:54 AM roycroft: the power supplies would handle it
11:54 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> 😉
11:54 AM Tom_L: jt had some surplus relays but those may be all gone now
11:54 AM Tom_L: din mount
11:54 AM roycroft: but i don't have 240v in my studio, and i don't want to run a circuit just for that
11:55 AM roycroft: although that may be cheaper than ordering 120v relays from china
11:55 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> 110 to 240v transformer 🙂
11:55 AM roycroft: that's kind of ridiculous, skunkworks8841
11:55 AM * roycroft continues to search
11:56 AM Tom_L: yard is done. i found out how much of a bitch it's going to be mowing around that fortress now
11:56 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I mean - I don't disagree...
11:56 AM Tom_L: sk, yeah but you probably have one in a box somewhere....
11:56 AM roycroft: i'm finding some 10-packs with us stock
11:57 AM roycroft: but everyone who has the is out of the 110v relay + base combos
11:57 AM roycroft: which would be 5 of each
11:57 AM roycroft: i need 2 of each, perhaps 3 of each if i want to get fancy
11:57 AM roycroft: but i don't need 10 of each
11:57 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/4Vezx2ScqU7Aqopc6
11:57 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> that should be big enough
11:58 AM roycroft: i also don't trust that a seller with a name like "alluringflower" who claims to have us stock actually ships from the us
11:59 AM roycroft: that name kind of tells me where they are located
11:59 AM roycroft: and it is not in houston
11:59 AM Tom_L: hahaha
11:59 AM Tom_L: might be a cactus
12:02 PM roycroft: actually, i just checked on amazon, and there are heaps of relays there, mostly for less money than currently on ebay
12:02 PM roycroft: i've always found ebay to offer the best values on those relays in the pasat
12:02 PM roycroft: past
12:02 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I usually check amazon first
12:02 PM roycroft: but i guess things have changed
12:02 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> ebay is just not as quick
12:02 PM roycroft: and i won't have to worry about tariffs on amazon
12:02 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> right
12:02 PM roycroft: i'm patient, and don't mind waiting a few weeks for delivery usually
12:03 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> probably need one of these too...
12:03 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/j9wEyheWqg1yVE1DA
12:03 PM roycroft: i just have to meet my minimum order amount for free shipping
12:03 PM roycroft: but that's what wish lists are for - padding orders to meet the minimum
12:15 PM roycroft: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CJ28XQF1
12:15 PM roycroft: i'm reading that as 110v coil, and 10a load current
12:15 PM roycroft: but it's not 100% clear
12:16 PM roycroft: do others read it that way?
12:17 PM Tom_L: https://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/industrial/6374817011
12:17 PM Tom_L: thought that might give more info but maybe not
12:19 PM Tom_L: might get you a step closer to a data sheet
12:19 PM roycroft: i'm pretty sure they're what i need, so i'll order some
12:19 PM roycroft: if i blow one up i'll return them :)
12:22 PM Tom_L: and i agree on the coil voltage
12:23 PM Tom_L: i could send you a couple of these: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/temp/Relay1.jpg
12:23 PM xxcoder: good sunny morning
12:25 PM roycroft: i like those contactors
12:25 PM roycroft: but i just ordered the ones on amazon, along with some power distribution blocks
12:25 PM roycroft: if i have a calamity i'll let you know and would be happy to go old-school
12:26 PM Tom_L: i hope you don't because i'm not really sure where they are
12:26 PM xxcoder: lol
12:26 PM Tom_L: i know i took one apart for the contact to fix a drier years ago
12:27 PM roycroft: i think there's a reasonable chance that what i just ordered will work
12:27 PM Tom_L: same here
12:27 PM roycroft: and i got a half dozen of them, so if/when i need 120v relays in the future i won't have to go through this again
12:29 PM roycroft: this is what i added to meet the mininum order requirement: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BQQDWGXV
12:29 PM roycroft: i think it's a pretty good deal, and should handle all the power distribution i need for the mini-router
12:29 PM Tom_L: you know peter has terminal blocks too
12:29 PM Tom_L: with the standard mesa connector
12:30 PM roycroft: i wasn't aware of that, but good to know for the future
12:30 PM Tom_L: https://mesaus.com/product/commx2/
12:30 PM Tom_L: it's split in half
12:30 PM Tom_L: i used half for gnd and the other half for 5v on something
12:31 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/rue/Control1.jpg
12:31 PM Tom_L: stuck to the sidewall inside the cabinet
12:31 PM Tom_L: used a sharpie to color code the split
12:32 PM roycroft: i need to go to the storage unit again
12:32 PM xxcoder: you probably can use those for big router too
12:33 PM roycroft: i think i have a box of aviation connectors there, which would be good for the stepper motor cables
12:33 PM Tom_L: i used din? connectors
12:33 PM Tom_L: i'm not sure what they're called
12:33 PM roycroft: although it would probably be best to use a single connector for all three axes, so i don't mix them up ever
12:33 PM Tom_L: but can get them from 2-8ish connectors
12:34 PM roycroft: so i'd need a 12 pin connector for signal, and 6 pin for power
12:34 PM roycroft: or 18 pin combined
12:34 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/rue/Control2.jpg
12:34 PM Tom_L: what's that top silver screw connector called?
12:35 PM Tom_L: don't mind the wiring, i know it's a mess but it works solid
12:36 PM roycroft: looks like an aviation connector
12:36 PM Tom_L: https://www.amazon.com/Connector-Female-Aviation-Chassis-Socket/dp/B08KR31KPK?gQT=1&th=1
12:36 PM roycroft: plug is keyed for alignment, and has a threaded ring to secure it?
12:36 PM Tom_L: yes
12:36 PM Tom_L: that's them ^^
12:36 PM roycroft: yeah, that's what i think i have a box of in storage
12:38 PM roycroft: i'm heading to the old house shortly, to check things out and come up with a plan to haul the last couple loads
12:38 PM roycroft: there's some sheet metal there that i haven't moved yet, and i think i'll grab that today so i can make some mounting plates for connectors on the mini-router controller
12:39 PM roycroft: i was talking to a scrapper the other day, and he has offered to completely clean up the old property, including dump runs, in exchange for my trailer that's still there
12:39 PM roycroft: it's kind of tempting, although i'd like to keep the trailer
12:39 PM roycroft: but i'd really like to be done with that place
12:40 PM roycroft: and the trailer would need extensive remodeling to work for me, and would still not be ideal
12:40 PM roycroft: so i'm seriously considering doing that, and getting a more suitable trailer later
12:41 PM roycroft: today's trip is to figure that out - if i decided to go for it, i think that two trips with the pickup next weekend and i'll have everything i want, and will be completely done moving
12:42 PM Tom_L: there are other trailers to be gotten.. i'd go for it
12:45 PM roycroft: that's what i'm thinking, and if i need a trailer in the meantime there are actualy two u-haul places in this town where i can get one cheap for a day
12:46 PM roycroft: as wel, a big reason i haven't moved it yet is because i haven't made a space to park it at the new place yet
12:46 PM roycroft: my move-in day was 30 may of last year, so as of friday i'll have lived here a year
12:47 PM roycroft: and it would be nice to be completely gone from the old place by next weekend
12:47 PM roycroft: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07L1Q69R5
12:48 PM roycroft: so if i get those (i'm not sure if my box in storage has any 6 pin connectors or not), would i likely experience emi running power and signal on the same cable to the steppers?
12:48 PM Tom_L: when my local guy was still alive i used to get those from him
12:48 PM Tom_L: had 2-8 pin in stock usually
12:48 PM Tom_L: i run signals separate from power and use shielded wire for both
12:49 PM roycroft: the y axis cable comes out the front on the mini-router, and i need it to come out the back
12:50 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Wiring/Wire2.jpg
12:50 PM roycroft: i will have to see how hard it is to swap the cable chain to the other side
12:50 PM Tom_L: for my steppers
12:50 PM roycroft: er, that's the x axis chain i guess
12:50 PM Tom_L: the local guy had some aviation wire i used for the signals
12:51 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/emc/small_probe7_small.jpg
12:51 PM Tom_L: that stuff
12:51 PM roycroft: i have a bunch of shielded 18ga cable in storage as well
12:51 PM roycroft: i'm not sure how many conductors, though
12:51 PM roycroft: hopefully at least six
12:51 PM Tom_L: braided shield
12:52 PM roycroft: ideally i'd like a bundle of 4 in a shield, and a bundle of 2 in a shield
12:52 PM Tom_L: those were 3 & 2, 2cond white not shown
12:53 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Wiring/AllenBradleyRelay1.jpg
12:53 PM Tom_L: jt had some of those surplus
12:54 PM Tom_L: 24v coil iirc
12:58 PM roycroft: what's annoying about amazon business is that when i place an order with my personal account i have 24 hours to add other items with free shipping, even if they don't meet the minimum, but with the business accounts, i don't have that option
12:58 PM roycroft: i just had to cancel my order so that if i don't have the 6 pin aviation connectors in stock i can add them to the order
12:59 PM roycroft: but the business discounts are not annoying, so i'll continue to use the business accounts
01:00 PM * roycroft gets going before the day is over
01:00 PM roycroft: i need to repair my espresso machine today as well
01:00 PM roycroft: and i want to make sure there's time for that - it will take a couple hours or longer
01:00 PM * rdtsc gets to redo the rpi5 iso sometime today... well start it at least
01:00 PM * roycroft has not had a working espresso machine for almost a month now, and really wants it back
01:01 PM roycroft: i can't afford to drink drip coffee - it costs 2x as much as espresso
01:01 PM rdtsc: paper filters remove cholesterol-raising compounds
01:01 PM Tom_L: never was a coffee drinker
01:01 PM roycroft: my cholesterol levels are fine
01:02 PM rdtsc: lucky
01:02 PM roycroft: and i haven't even calculated the cost of the paper filters into the equation
01:02 PM xxcoder: I have drank 7-8 cups of coffee so far
01:02 PM roycroft: i just know that i use 2x as much coffee when doing drip with a melitta than when making cappuccinos
01:02 PM roycroft: i have one coffee/day
01:02 PM xxcoder: wow thats way more often than me
01:03 PM roycroft: my boss drinks it non-stop, all day long
01:03 PM roycroft: and in a disgusting way
01:03 PM xxcoder: cant remember last time I drank one. its been years lol
01:03 PM roycroft: he makes a pot with a drip coffee maker, and lets it sit and thicken up until it's gone, then makes another
01:04 PM roycroft: and he never cleans anything - his coffee cup, the coffee maker, nothing
01:04 PM xxcoder: ah yes the programmer special
01:04 PM roycroft: just make more mud on top of the existing mud
01:05 PM roycroft: anyway, i am off to the storage unit and the old house
01:05 PM roycroft: this mini-router project is coming together nicely, finally
01:06 PM xxcoder: cant wait to see it cutting something besides slightly thinner air
01:06 PM roycroft: i still need to figure out what kind of enclosure i want to make for it to contain the chips and dust and stuff
01:06 PM roycroft: but i'll get that sorted after the controller is done
01:07 PM * JT-Shop takes 5 after unloading 7 2x12x16pt boards
01:07 PM roycroft: and yeah, it will be nice to be using linuxcnc on a real machine on a regular basis after all these years
01:14 PM * JT-Shop attempts to deconstruct the trailer deck today
01:53 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol - my great uncle would come up to visit and have coffee.. It would drive my mom crazy because he would sit there and wish the coffee through his teeth..
01:53 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> swish
01:55 PM xxcoder: wouldnt that stain teeth?
02:18 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> he was old.. I don't think he cares
02:19 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> *cared
02:20 PM xxcoder: lol ok
02:28 PM xxcoder: wow pretty cool new solar tech https://youtu.be/Ya_DPtNj6Og
02:37 PM JT-Shop: https://ibb.co/KjdP46xq
02:37 PM JT-Shop: and yes it has twice as many support beams as normal
02:44 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> JT-Shop: dual axel. that's good
02:45 PM xxcoder: certainly ready for quite heavy load
02:47 PM JT-Shop: I carried some real heavy loads on it like a VMC and a CHNC
02:58 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> it's good for safety. ever seen a trailor on the roadside with a flat, or worse, a busted wheel...... single axes very ugly
02:59 PM JT-Shop: a flat will stop any trailer if it has a load on it
03:00 PM JT-Shop: single axle is a fine trailer and I have one, years ago trailers came with maypop tires from the junk yard
03:03 PM JT-Shop: and used rims...
03:04 PM JT-Shop: the lift I'm picking up weighs 2,285 lbs
03:07 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> the BP series 2 was 5500 lb
03:08 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> had to rent a twin axel trailer with a lowering bed....
03:15 PM JT-Shop: they used to have a couple of those at the rental place for man lifts
03:30 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> pretty handy. wouldn't rent it unless ya had at least a 3/4 ton truck. my is 1/2, so the mill owner had to rent it.....
03:55 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Dad bought a brand new trailer. But the truck needs a lot of work
03:56 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> (why I have been running the 42' to recycling..)
03:56 PM JT-Shop: I bought a 10' aluminum trailer a few years ago to haul the spyder but I sold the spyder
03:57 PM JT-Shop: but the good news is the mrs actually went for a ride on the Bluewing and commented yesterday how it would be a nice day for a bike ride
03:59 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Nice! Glad she is doing better
04:00 PM JT-Shop: thanks
04:00 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I have been going through an area next to the barn. So much steel
04:01 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> the truck is getting filled up
04:01 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> old axles from a grain truck..
04:03 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> some sort of cyclone, chip conveyer.. frame, I think, from granpa's start of a bigger sawmill...
04:04 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> random gearboxes
04:04 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I did find the end of the drain field tubes..
04:05 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> So I won't mow over them.
04:06 PM Tom_L: you should write a book....
04:06 PM Tom_L: the adventures of sw
04:06 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol.. Mom said we should have a museum
04:07 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I found a gearbox - that I remember being there from when I was a kid. I think maybe it is from a 2 wheel garden tractor.
04:07 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Have a whole pile of slate roofing tiles..
04:08 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> that a tree was dropped on.
04:08 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> so a good percentage are broken
04:08 PM Tom_L: make a walking path with em
04:10 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I might put them up on face book marketplace and see what is left over
04:13 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> need to figure out what I am going to do with tires and rims.
04:13 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> there are so many around here
04:15 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> that is a good idea
04:18 PM Tom_L: any paving companies there that recycle them for asphalt?
04:18 PM _unreal_: yay got the first round of my probate.. working on buying a house
04:19 PM _unreal_: can not wait. I have so many future clients wanting to have me do work. its killing me at how much money I'm loosing
04:23 PM Tom_L: supposedly makes the roads last longer too
04:26 PM JT-Shop: Sam do you have a tire changer?
04:26 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I have a manual one from harbor freight..
04:26 PM JT-Shop: how much fun is that?
04:26 PM Tom_L: not much
04:27 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I actually have not used it.. I don't think much fun
04:27 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> remember dad doing it with tire irons - not fun either.
04:27 PM Tom_L: i've done a couple with just a couple bars
04:27 PM Tom_L: yeah
04:27 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I guess I have too.. but have blocked it out
04:27 PM JT-Shop: I done the Bluewing tires a few times with tire irons
04:28 PM Tom_L: if you're desparate it's one way to go
04:28 PM JT-Shop: I've changed tires on my VW by hand before a long long long time ago
04:28 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> right - dad had a pair of leaf spings that he used for tire irons
04:29 PM Tom_L: i broke the bead on a rusted spare once by rolling the truck partway onto the edge of the tire
04:29 PM Tom_L: otherwise i'm not sure i could have done it
04:29 PM JT-Shop: lol I've done that before more than once
04:29 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yah - We used the tractor bucket
04:30 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> or the vise
04:30 PM Tom_L: never brave enough to put fuel inside to reseal one
04:30 PM JT-Shop: boom
04:30 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I have thought about it.. Little ether..
04:30 PM Tom_L: yep
04:30 PM Tom_L: emphasis on little
04:31 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> we had a jeep that was a pain - I remember dad wrapping it with a come along to get it sqashed down enough to take air
04:31 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> he never tried it. He was very much a safety guy..
04:31 PM JT-Shop: I've used a ratchet strap before to inflate a tire
04:32 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I never was able to ride on the tractor with him.. (and my son is fast to tell me that grampa let me ride with him..) lol
04:33 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I did that with a mower tire.. Small ratchet strap - worked great
04:33 PM JT-Shop: I think it was mower tires I was working on
04:34 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> but - I might try ether next time 🙂
04:34 PM JT-Shop: on the grandparents farm I would drive tractors from a very young age
04:34 PM Tom_L: sk, do tell the results :)
04:34 PM JT-Shop: I remember having to stand up on the clutch in order to push it down
04:34 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yes. I just couldn't ride on the trailer..
04:34 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> * fender
04:35 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Stella has driven the tractor - she enjoys it
04:35 PM _unreal: amazing. I put my phone down and loosee intenet connection'
04:35 PM _unreal: osugh
04:35 PM _unreal: sigh
04:35 PM _unreal: so ya looking at a few houses. I believe I have found the best house for me
04:36 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/XEGqGjRDAiVXrY858
04:36 PM _unreal: waiting for the realtor to finish paper work
04:36 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> glad things are coming together
04:36 PM _unreal: ya
04:36 PM _unreal: finally
04:36 PM _unreal: mmmm fire wood
04:37 PM _unreal: :)
04:37 PM _unreal: reminds me of one of my best friends growing up. his fam. was all about having a fire place even though they had oil heat in there house.
04:37 PM _unreal: they where always collecting firewood from there land that was the "wood lot"
04:38 PM _unreal: and they had a kabota prob sim. size
04:38 PM _unreal: green
04:38 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I don't like it. Too narrow
04:38 PM _unreal: heh
04:38 PM _unreal: at least it has a power drive in the back
04:38 PM _unreal: for add on options
04:39 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> if you lift anyting with it that is slightly off center - it likes to tip
04:39 PM _unreal: un-balanced hydraulics?
04:39 PM Tom_L: from the looks of things nothing around your place is very light weight
04:39 PM Tom_L: in it's defense
04:39 PM _unreal: or do you mean the entire machine its self is lack luster in stability
04:39 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol
04:40 PM _unreal: mmm.
04:40 PM _unreal: and ya hi t4nk_fn
04:40 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yes - the whole machine. You can bring the rear tires off the ground so easy..
04:40 PM xxcoder: no rear weight?
04:40 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> it has wieght in the center - but it probably needs more
04:40 PM Tom_L: maybe better off with a bobcat
04:40 PM xxcoder: few have special tank you fill with water to act as counterbalance if I recall right
04:40 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> that would help
04:40 PM _unreal: that machine should have fwd and rear weights
04:41 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> The ford 4000 is the go to.. It just goes.
04:41 PM JT-Shop: I keep a bushhog on the kubota for rear weight
04:41 PM _unreal: my child hood friends fathers tractor I believe had 375 lbs just on the fwd weights
04:41 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I was thinking of putting the back hoe on it. but I think that might be a bit tippy too
04:41 PM JT-Shop: the bucket is a bit anemic
04:42 PM _unreal: anemic bucket on that size of a machine I can under stand
04:42 PM _unreal: what is the all up copacity? 1ton?
04:42 PM _unreal: capacity
04:43 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> but - you can put enough gravel in the bucket to make the rear wheels come off the ground. Dad would I think put extra weight in the back. I forgot about that.. I think he strapped it to the 3 point hitch
04:43 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> That hydraulics on that thing is awesome. I bet it would lift as much as the ford.
04:43 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> a ton or more
04:44 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> the hydraulics run the backhoe really well.
04:44 PM _unreal: skunk does it not have mounts for weight plates in both the front and back
04:44 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I don't know - I would have to look.
04:45 PM _unreal: they are some times called suitcase weights
04:45 PM _unreal: depending on the desigh
04:46 PM JT-Shop: typically rear weights are wheel weights
04:46 PM JT-Shop: and front weights hang on a bar
04:47 PM Tom_L: skunkworks, any of those machines you've collected ever been found leaded into place?
04:48 PM Tom_L: i remember a place i worked at move some of the bar machines around and they leaded them in
04:48 PM Tom_L: i collected some and made a fence post driver
04:48 PM Tom_L: just a curiosity
04:49 PM Tom_L: fence/well either or
04:50 PM _unreal: there just finished e signing my offer for a house
04:58 PM _unreal: come to think of it I believe my friends father had 2 tractors. I think they got one. then they got ann other one that was larger. I dont remember how much larger but larger regardless
04:59 PM _unreal: talking nearly 30 years ago
05:08 PM JT-Shop: my tractor is 69 years old
05:11 PM _unreal: good f'en year
05:11 PM _unreal: :)
05:12 PM _unreal: I bet you fool around with that tractor a lot LOL
06:20 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/CoE4t7nfyy5rCgSR9
06:21 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/KwR5Rh6oBRKB3NuCA
06:21 PM xxcoder: sure looks like machine part
06:21 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> maybe.. I don't know
06:22 PM xxcoder: torque transforming maybe
06:23 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I am pretty sure it has been in the field there since late 70's
06:30 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> lol - took the wheels off this home made trailer axel.. (it was wood and the axel was all that was left.) Took a second as one side was left hand thread. then I looked at the rim...
06:31 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/vByvqUdTKVJcBLJn6
06:33 PM xxcoder: not sure what im looking at. looks certainly worn and rusted
06:35 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> it has the split ring - not as bad as split rim though
06:35 PM xxcoder: ahh 2 part tire?
06:36 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> right
07:54 PM roycroft: i am back from town
07:54 PM roycroft: there is more dump/recycle stuff at the old place than i remembered
07:54 PM roycroft: trading the trailer for making that stuff go away is making more and more sense
07:56 PM roycroft: although i've invested money in new tires for the trailer (like they have 2 miles on them), the axle is too far back, so it need to move forward, it needs new brakes, the frame needs to be reinforced, there are no fenders (legally required in oregon), and all new wiring/lights
07:56 PM roycroft: so it's a project trailer, with more work to do that has been done
07:57 PM roycroft: as my vw buses were project buses that are now someone else's project, so too i think the trailer can become someone else's project
07:57 PM roycroft: i'd probably be better off building one from scratch
07:58 PM * roycroft thinks he's pretty much talked himself into taking the deal
07:59 PM Tom_L: i'd cut my losses and move on :_
07:59 PM Tom_L: :)
08:03 PM roycroft: that's pretty much where i'm at
08:04 PM roycroft: i have some grinders on stands, my blasting cabinet and extractor, a big welding table that i'm not sure where it will live but i don't want to just get rid of, and some small stuff yet to move
08:04 PM roycroft: two pickup loads at most
08:05 PM roycroft: and that's everything i care about that's still there
08:05 PM roycroft: oh, except for some irrigation stuff, but that will be easy to get
08:05 PM roycroft: and some shelving that i don't need right now, but will be easy to store until i do need it
08:06 PM roycroft: psychologically it's really taxing to not be done
08:06 PM roycroft: and i suspect not only for myself, but for my friends and folks on this channel :)
08:08 PM xxcoder: its certainly a saga
08:08 PM roycroft: it was never meant to be this drawn out
08:10 PM xxcoder: yeah. it'll reach a end sometime soon :D
08:11 PM roycroft: quite possibly this coming weekend
08:21 PM xxcoder: more fun adventures of guy who cant smell
08:22 PM xxcoder: I think sour cream I ate with food have gone off
08:22 PM xxcoder: effects isnt too bad, but yeah
08:22 PM roycroft: i wasn't able to transport my sheet metal stock today, but i was able to check it out, and i have what i need for the controller
08:22 PM roycroft: it would suck to have no sense of smell
08:23 PM xxcoder: it sucks more than being deaf.
08:23 PM roycroft: it's such an important part of the "taste" of food
08:23 PM roycroft: i can't really form an opinion about that
08:23 PM roycroft: i love good food, but i also love good music
08:24 PM xxcoder: from what I can figure. I can taste quite a lot more than normal person who cant smell, but far less than person who can smell.
08:24 PM roycroft: if i had to lose either sense, but not the other, and i had the choice of which one, i do not know which one i would choose
08:24 PM roycroft: i'm not sure i'd be able to make the choice
08:25 PM xxcoder: yeah wouldnt know. never experenced either lol I only know my personal experence
08:25 PM xxcoder: I have poisoned myself with food few times across years, though this time was first in few years
08:26 PM roycroft: you need to hire a taster :)
08:26 PM xxcoder: sure as soon as I have royal income too
08:27 PM Tom_L: or check the best by dates
08:27 PM xxcoder: I usually do yeah. I rather throw away by best by, not by when it goes off
08:27 PM roycroft: that helps, but i've purchased things well within the pull date that were bad when i got home from the market
08:27 PM xxcoder: sour cream though had unreadable date
08:28 PM xxcoder: its in trash now
08:28 PM roycroft: if you leave that pallet of sour cream on the back loading dock for a few hours in the summer before putting it in the cooler it doesn't matter what the pull date is
08:28 PM xxcoder: might be what happened to mine, I bought it recent enough
08:28 PM xxcoder: ill check my remaining unopened one later though
08:29 PM roycroft: have someone else check it
08:34 PM xxcoder: yeah I should lol
