06:38 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> Morning
06:41 AM JT-Cave: I have no idea how much rain we got last night the rain gauge is full
08:50 AM roycroft: hi folks
08:51 AM * roycroft was able to sleep through the night without getting up for meds for the first time
08:55 AM JT-Cave: checked my backup rain gauge and it's over flowing as well at 9"
09:04 AM roycroft: yikes
09:04 AM roycroft: the rain will return here on monday, but not like that

09:56 AM Tom_L: log
10:43 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> good morning all. low of about 43 last night. forecast mid 70's today. clear and sunny

12:23 PM xxcoder: last hot day today, rest of week seem cloud/rain
02:27 PM roycroft: yeah
02:27 PM roycroft: and i was supposed to go meet a guy about buying my vw buses today
02:27 PM roycroft: he just postponed until tomorrow
02:28 PM roycroft: i'd rather wander about the old property in the sunshine than in the rain
02:28 PM roycroft: but oh well
02:29 PM roycroft: i just had an interesting discussion with some jehova's witnesses
02:29 PM roycroft: i tried very politely telling them that i did not have time to talk to them and asked them to leave, but they insisted that i needed to hear what they had to say
02:30 PM roycroft: i then reminded them that there are no trespassing signs posted all over my property, and they insisted that they were not trespassing
02:30 PM JT-Shop: JW's used to come around when I lived in LaPlace
02:30 PM roycroft: i told them they were, by being on my property
02:31 PM roycroft: and they tried to argue that trespassing only meant either walking into my house or entering my property with the intent to commit a crime
02:32 PM roycroft: it does not mean the latter at all, and it only means the former if it's not posted, and even then only until the property owner tells them to leave
02:32 PM JT-Shop: trespassing is being on someones property without their permission
02:32 PM roycroft: yes
02:32 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> there's a house on one of out back streets we ride to avoid traffic, it has like 8 VW busses in front. the guy collects them
02:32 PM xxcoder: trying to redefine it their way
02:32 PM roycroft: and the law generally permits folks to enter the property and approach the door to try to talk to someone
02:33 PM roycroft: unless there are "no tresspassing" signs posted at the perimeter
02:33 PM roycroft: in which case it means do not step one foot on the property for any reason
02:33 PM xxcoder: telling them directly that they are not welcome means they should leave
02:33 PM xxcoder: terpassing otherwise
02:34 PM roycroft: i'm not sure why they would think i'm interested in anything they have to say to me after i tell them to leave and that they are breaking the law by being here
02:34 PM roycroft: seems a good "christian" thing to do would be to thank me for my trouble and politely leave
02:35 PM roycroft: i had the same problem with jehova's witnesses in eugene
02:35 PM xxcoder: now picture it if any religious group finds out that a house has disabled people... like say.. deaf family
02:35 PM xxcoder: its like double score bonuses for them religious people to try convert deaf people.
02:35 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> roycroft: all those cults are bad.
02:36 PM roycroft: they seem to think that the first amendment grants them the right to tresspass on private property to proselytize
02:36 PM roycroft: i remained firm, but polite
02:37 PM roycroft: i wanted to tell them that hate groups are not welcome on my property or otherwise in my life, but i held my tongut
02:37 PM xxcoder: there was that interpeter scandal where interpeter passed adresses of deaf families to religion proselyizing people
02:37 PM roycroft: tongue
02:37 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> if they're handing out cookies or coolaid, don't take it....
02:37 PM roycroft: they hand out "literature"
02:37 PM roycroft: i.e. hate propaganda
02:38 PM xxcoder: if they keep coming, I'd add trash bin in front of door, and if they try force book or paper to you, directly throw it in there
02:38 PM roycroft: why is it that the most christian people are not part of any of the christian cults/religions?
02:38 PM xxcoder: ensure it has some food so it dirties it forever
02:38 PM roycroft: if they come back i'll file formal trespass charges
02:38 PM roycroft: it's not my job to throw away their hate literature
02:39 PM roycroft: anyway, they are lucky i'm mostly off the pain meds now :)
02:39 PM roycroft: had i not been as much in control of myself i might have told then what i think of them
02:40 PM xxcoder: yeah. its annoying. reminds me of that college time. there was2 guys that was trying to hand out mini bibles. they was mostly decent, till one day 2 guys moved to block my way. (they knew I am deaf so I guess they felt extra need to) and I finally took the book.. and threw it in trash bin in front of their eyes
02:40 PM xxcoder: they never bothered me afterwards
02:40 PM * roycroft cannot decide whether it's lunch time or nap time
02:41 PM xxcoder: I never knew what religion cult they belonged to, nor did I care
02:41 PM roycroft: there are three things in my studio making it difficult to do things there, and one of them is my wood boiling tray, for making shaker oval boxes
02:42 PM roycroft: it's been there since i got it last summer, waiting to be sealed so i can use it
02:42 PM roycroft: this morning i finally cleaned it up and put the sealer on
02:42 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> I have a weird cult just around the corner..... https://www.sufismreoriented.org/
02:42 PM roycroft: so in a couple days i can finally move it out to the shop
02:43 PM roycroft: looks like a typical weird cult
02:43 PM roycroft: i can't learn much about them, though, since their website is light grey text on a parchment background
02:43 PM roycroft: rendering it unreadable
02:44 PM xxcoder: honestly I dont care about cults, as long as 1) they dont bother me. 2) they dont hurt their followers or others
02:44 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> they are, but they don't come around prosletizing... (sp)
02:44 PM roycroft: that's pretty much how i feel, xxcoder
02:44 PM roycroft: a big problem is that we often don't know about 2 until it's too late
02:45 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> just don't ever drink the coolaid...
02:45 PM roycroft: that's one of the memories that will be deeply imprinted in me for the rest of my life
02:45 PM xxcoder: heavens gate was still up last I was curious. couple years ago?
02:46 PM roycroft: just because it was all over the media as the only story for quite a while
02:46 PM roycroft: another that is deeply imprinted is princess di's death
02:47 PM roycroft: and that is because i was driving down from a job in bellingham to my house in eugene when it happened, and it was all that was on the radio
02:49 PM JT-Shop: my hat has so much dirt and grease on it that it has become water proof to some degree
02:50 PM roycroft: nice
02:50 PM roycroft: it's worth a lot more now
02:50 PM JT-Shop: but I think I'll get a new one out of the box because it's becoming sticky
02:51 PM JT-Shop: I have a couple hanging on the wall
02:51 PM xxcoder: get the hat washer thingy and wash it in landery
02:51 PM roycroft: my other task this weekend is to get some network gear boxed up and ready to ship
02:51 PM roycroft: which involves wrapping each one in bubble wrap
02:52 PM roycroft: i need to do this in the living room, as i won't be able to lift the box once it's packed
02:52 PM JT-Shop: I managed to get the power steering assist cylinder on the C3 and it didn't leak so it's back on the wheels now
02:52 PM roycroft: it should be interesting trying to keep the kittens at bay while i'm playing with a new toy that is the best toy they've ever seen
02:52 PM JT-Shop: good luck with that lol
02:53 PM roycroft: nice - sounds like real progress there
02:53 PM roycroft: my cunning plan is to fix them a plate of tuna and feed it to them right as i'm getting started
02:53 PM JT-Shop: I'm hoping that I can actually drive it and it will be safe to drive now
02:54 PM roycroft: but sometimes toys are more important than food to kittens
02:55 PM JT-Shop: how old are the kittens?
03:11 PM roycroft: 7 months now
03:11 PM roycroft: and they are acting more like cats and less like kittens
03:11 PM roycroft: but there is still a lot of kitten energy in them
03:12 PM roycroft: they are essentially teenagers now
03:12 PM JT-Shop: yeah they will still have some kitten in them, we don't know the age of our cats because they were all dumped out and found their way to our house
03:13 PM roycroft: i don't know the exact age, but they were part of the same litter, and were born late last july
03:13 PM JT-Shop: I know the birthday of my hens but not the cats lol
03:15 PM * roycroft decides it's living room comfy chair time, but not nap time
03:16 PM JT-Shop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qfqjYUwC3k
03:21 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> My main base ball cap is so dirty.. so I washed it. Still looks just as dirty
03:22 PM JT-Shop: I tried to wash this hat but didn't improve it any
03:22 PM xxcoder: I still have my BK hat from over 20 years ago. its permently stained but otherwise not too bad. probably because I hate to wear a hat, and only wear em when its too sunny for my bald head
03:23 PM JT-Shop: Burger King?
03:23 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I only wear it when I have bed head
03:23 PM xxcoder: yeah
03:23 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Like now
03:23 PM JT-Shop: I wear a baseball cap all the time
03:23 PM xxcoder: I cant have a bed head, I dont have enough hair lol
03:23 PM JT-Shop: except when it falls off
03:23 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Lol..
03:24 PM xxcoder: when I do, I look like boba the clown, so I go shorten it again
03:24 PM JT-Shop: I used to gauge hair cut time by my hat falling off... but I stopped cutting my hair in 2015
03:25 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> That is my uncles.. totally thought I would probably lose my hair
03:25 PM xxcoder: I only do haircut once a year. last time was hmm 5 months ago?
03:25 PM xxcoder: still plenty short so its fine. only under inch long
03:25 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> My hair grows too fast
03:26 PM xxcoder: and mine way too slow
03:26 PM xxcoder: when when I was young adult, my hair grew only 2 inches a year. its less now
03:26 PM JT-Shop: I'm still waiting for my sideburns to grow out
03:27 PM xxcoder: my sis asked me to grow out for locks of love, after 2 years I gave up because my hair havent went much past head, starting to get to neck
03:27 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> well, I finally got my whole house audio system going..... now music where ever I want it all in synch out of one source.
03:27 PM xxcoder: you need hair over foot long for locks of love to make wig out of.
03:27 PM bjorkintosh: how many amps and speakers, roguish?
03:27 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> bought a couple of these... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DMV8S5Q5?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1
03:28 PM roycroft: i stopped cutting my hair the day dubya was installed as president by the supreme court
03:28 PM roycroft: it barely grows any more though
03:28 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> 1 is input via bluetooth from my home automation pc... another in the living room hooked up to the stereo, same in the garage.
03:29 PM bjorkintosh: roguish, could you connect it to a record player?
03:29 PM roycroft: that reminds me of another small project for this weekend
03:29 PM JT-Shop: I need something to connect to my turntable to the pc to digitize my albums
03:30 PM roycroft: right before my injury my internet radio and tv in my bedroom would lose their internet connection around 11pm and not connect again until morning
03:30 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> bjorkintosh: yes, I think so. the company has a number of units and I am pretty sure there are some with actual amps in them.
03:30 PM roycroft: i just figured out that they were still connecting to the wifi router, but for whatever reason they cannot get a dhcp lease during that time
03:30 PM roycroft: i'm going to assign them static ips and see if that fixes the problem
03:31 PM roycroft: or works around it at least
03:31 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> these broadcast via wifi, and have several inputs
03:31 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> roycroft: most everything in my house have static ips
03:32 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/nMwqAJQfpKayhTNB7
03:32 PM roycroft: i usually like static ips
03:32 PM roycroft: i was just lazy with the bedroom devices
03:32 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> At the jump park...
03:32 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> i want to figure out subnets so I can put all the home automation, cameras and these stereo things on one and block internet acess.
03:33 PM bjorkintosh: oh wifi is spotty in parts roguish.
03:33 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> my house is not too big
03:33 PM bjorkintosh: ah.
03:34 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> no issures
03:34 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> issues
03:34 PM roycroft: same here
03:34 PM roycroft: and i don't have that radiant ceiling heat like in my old house
03:34 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> and most everything i have is on cables..... even my sprinkler controllers
03:34 PM roycroft: i have good wifi signal througout my house, and also in my shop
03:35 PM roycroft: at the old place i had to put an ap in the shop and backhaul it via ethernet to the house
03:37 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> A lot of consumer routers now have iot setups that isolate them from the Internet
03:38 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> not mine. mine lets me isolate up to 16 devices.... not nearly enough
03:38 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> At the farm there are 5 access points.
03:39 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> And fiber between buildings
03:39 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> I have a neighbor who is a network consultant. I'm going to bug him for a little help
03:40 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> The kids don't complain.. that is the main test
03:45 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer@> and it's now snowing... 😦
03:50 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> 71 and sunny....😎
03:52 PM JT-Shop: super loud thunder just happened
03:52 PM JT-Shop: I bet Oreo is under something
03:54 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
03:54 PM xxcoder: thats how cookie crumbles I guess
03:56 PM JT-Shop: the thunder was so loud I could feel it
03:56 PM Tom_L: JT-shop what's next for the C3?
03:56 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> that's a pretty close bolt
03:56 PM JT-Shop: check the timing then put the new alternator in
03:56 PM Tom_L: Just shoved off
03:57 PM JT-Shop: need to paint the underside of the hood and get it back on
03:57 PM xxcoder: hopefully not you, off the walkway
03:58 PM Tom_L: Yup
03:58 PM JT-Shop: kinda late leaving?
03:59 PM JT-Shop: walkway?
03:59 PM Tom_L: A little
03:59 PM xxcoder: pier I meant
03:59 PM Tom_L: 4 is about average
04:00 PM JT-Shop: good chow onboard?
04:01 PM Tom_L: So far yes
04:01 PM Tom_L: We're trying to decide what to read for supper
04:02 PM JT-Shop: mrs got excited when told her about your cruise
04:02 PM Tom_L: Eat
04:02 PM Tom_L: You should try one
04:02 PM Tom_L: It's not for everybody
04:02 PM JT-Shop: on your phone spell check and cap first word?
04:03 PM Tom_L: Yup
04:03 PM Tom_L: Google voice picks up everybody else too
04:03 PM JT-Shop: she said the room was a disappointment but the cruise was good
04:03 PM Tom_L: You saw where we were
04:03 PM JT-Shop: so now I have a consultant I can get a good room
04:04 PM Tom_L: Good does not come cheap
04:04 PM JT-Shop: understand
04:04 PM Tom_L: gotta go
04:04 PM JT-Shop: k
04:04 PM Tom_L: Call check in later
04:05 PM Tom_L: Ill
04:12 PM JT-Shop: LED buttons are working good in Flex now
04:12 PM xxcoder: nice
04:13 PM JT-Shop: Chris helped me get a start
04:15 PM JT-Shop: with LED's
04:15 PM xxcoder: got pics? curious
04:15 PM JT-Shop: working on a video
04:17 PM xxcoder: new name. blunty hacks
04:18 PM roycroft: xxcoder: regarding that mokume game video
04:19 PM roycroft: my recollection is that because of the dissimilar coefficients of expansion of the metals, conventional forging does not work well, and it depends on high pressure to hold the pieces together when welding them
04:19 PM roycroft: i think that's where the guy went wrong
04:19 PM xxcoder: interesting. thanks
04:19 PM roycroft: you have to heat it up, press it really hard, and hold the pressure while it cools
04:20 PM JT-Shop: it was interesting in the shipyard the joint between the steel hull an the aluminum super structure
04:20 PM JT-Shop: the actual joint was about 2" wide
04:21 PM JT-Shop: the steel and aluminum was about 1/2" thick
04:22 PM JT-Shop: I think it was made with high pressure welding
04:31 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:37 PM Tom_L: JT-shop I would recommend at least a balcony room for her
04:38 PM Tom_L: We went a little overboard on this one
06:15 PM xxcoder: interesting artisn make video today
06:16 PM xxcoder: he turns his metal lathe into wood lathe, and makes tooling for it.
06:16 PM xxcoder: https://youtu.be/VKbWeQmzzXI
07:50 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Well - I think the forklift that has been sitting out side is seized up... I didn't notice the exhaust was open..
07:51 PM xxcoder: doh thats not good
07:52 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> maybe I should do a 'will it start' video lol
07:52 PM xxcoder: if waters in engine wouldnt that blow case
07:53 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> starter won't turn it. It has only been a couple years - so maybe not too bad. Time will tell
07:54 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I wen't and got a battery and spark plugs - the parkplug was a little rusty and I thought uh-oh
07:55 PM xxcoder: in least it wasnt hardlocked eh
08:40 PM roycroft: pacing myself is really going to be the key to short-term survival and functioning
08:40 PM roycroft: i'm finding i can do about 20 minutes of light work, and then i need to rest for a couple hours
08:41 PM roycroft: but that's better than doing nothing
08:42 PM roycroft: being in hospital flat on my back for four days just about drove me crazy
09:58 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Sounds like you are getting a handle on it
09:59 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> Lol.. I am watching the latest season of reacher on prime.. just found out one of the bad guys is Anthony Mitchell Hall.. I feel old. Didn't recognize him
10:01 PM roycroft: i feel older or something
10:01 PM roycroft: i have no idea who that is
10:01 PM roycroft: nor what that show is
10:12 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> 80's brat pack
10:12 PM roycroft: i wonder what's going on at my neighbor's house
10:13 PM roycroft: about 3 hours ago a fire truck and ambulance showed up, and a while later the ambulance took off with siren blaring
10:13 PM roycroft: now a fire truck showed up again
10:13 PM xxcoder: odd
10:13 PM roycroft: it's dark, and i can't see if there is an ambulance again as well
10:13 PM roycroft: i live at the end of a dead-end street
10:14 PM roycroft: this neighbor house is across the street from the house next to mine, and the way the streets are laid out, it's 3 blocks from here
10:14 PM roycroft: so i don't know any of those people on that street at all
10:14 PM roycroft: they're close but not really neighbors
