03:01 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> first motion test - no pid-tuning / scaling, but works
03:05 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> next step is pid-tuning, which is something i don't like at all 🥺

05:55 AM lcnc-relay: <z3rni3@> Moin
07:04 AM rdtsc-w: mornin'. Reason I'm thinking it is a germanium transistor is because this old, small board appears to be some sort of peak detector. Not much to it, but 3-terminal device necessary to have 3 pins.
07:04 AM rdtsc-w: https://imgdrop.io/image/20250327-091650-Simple-construction%2C-but-unual-resistor-markings.2lFgv
07:07 AM rdtsc-w: https://imgdrop.io/image/20250327-091657-No-board-damage.2lTWD
07:22 AM rdtsc-w: there's the 3-terminal device, a 2.7v Zener, two SS rectifiers, some poly caps, resistors, a red 1000k:50R transformer, and a 50R wirewound pot. Should have another board coming in this AM; will be able to test another (hopefully good) one.
08:06 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> that does look a bit old..
08:07 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I don't know my germanium - how much different are they from silicon?
08:17 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> also old:) https://cserver1.multixmedia.org/motoman.jpg
08:46 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> neat!
08:46 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I have a puma I want to play with some day
08:59 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> talla83 do retrofit an puma : https://www.youtube.com/shorts/S2J21Rwc-xY
08:59 AM lcnc-relay: <meisterdippel@> nice robot
09:03 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> neat!
09:05 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/hFVA37t1RPiK5o7a6
09:07 AM rdtsc-w: SW, there are lots of minor differences, but a silicon P-N junction (like a diode or "regular" transistor) has a foward voltage drop of about 0.6-0.8V, whereas germanium varieties drop about 0.2-0.4V on average.
09:08 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> ah - ok
09:18 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> What is that from? I would not be suprised if I had one here.. Dad horded a lot of odd drive systems
10:15 AM Rab: Germanium transistors are prized for certain classic audio applications, guitar pedals and synth modules, where you start with a relatively weak signal and have a simple circuit topology without much if any gain. Certain classic fuzz pedals sound significantly different with silicon transistors, or don't work at all due to the higher voltage drop.
10:44 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I am also sure I have some boards with germanium transistors on them
10:49 AM Tom_L: i probably have a few in some boxes of repair parts
10:50 AM rdtsc-w: very odd... two replacement boards arrived, and they measure exactly the same - that one leg all seem open... will try injecting a few volts into it and see if something happens.

10:52 AM Tom_L: bet you haven't seen that package
10:53 AM rdtsc-w: hehehe nope, that's what we call a dead bug :)
10:53 AM rdtsc-w: TO-BEETLE package
10:53 AM Tom_L: divider
10:53 AM Tom_L: they came in dual as well as single
10:55 AM rdtsc-w: watch this 3D1110 be some sort of hybrid transistor with a Zener in it or something (or they are all bad)
10:55 AM Tom_L: RTL iirc
12:43 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> could they be fet's?
12:53 PM xxcoder: ziper3: fix your internet connection
12:55 PM xxcoder: ziper2: fix your internet connection
01:05 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I wish I still had my old ecg book.. But I think it is either lost or was thrown away

01:45 PM rdtsc-w: This is the best I can come up with... https://imgdrop.io/image/2raih
02:31 PM roycroft: hello, folks
02:32 PM xxcoder: hey folk
02:32 PM roycroft: i have been in the hospital this week - i broke my back in three places on tuesday
02:32 PM Tom_L: when will you learn?
02:32 PM Tom_L: first your hand...
02:32 PM xxcoder: ouch what the heck happened
02:32 PM roycroft: it's not been my best week, and i've had several not best weeks this past year
02:32 PM Tom_L: sounds pretty serious
02:32 PM roycroft: the stepladder that i use to get up to my pickup bed slipped
02:33 PM roycroft: and i fell flat on my back
02:33 PM Tom_L: ouch
02:33 PM Tom_L: lucky you didn't bust your head open
02:33 PM roycroft: i have decided that i should never, ever move again
02:33 PM xxcoder: ow. or hips
02:34 PM roycroft: or if i do, it would be when i have piles of money and can hire someone to do it all
02:34 PM roycroft: i did hit my head pretty hard too, actually
02:34 PM roycroft: and i thought that all i did was pull some neck muscles
02:34 PM Tom_L: how'd you manage to make it to the hospital?
02:34 PM roycroft: i drove my pickup
02:35 PM xxcoder: I guess you had a shock that hid all symtons till later
02:35 PM roycroft: i was concerned about a concussion, which is why i went to the hospital - i had no idea it was a broken back
02:35 PM roycroft: no concussion, but it's a good thing i drove in to get checked
02:36 PM roycroft: anyway, i've had the surgery, and the surgeon said my spine is as strong as it's ever going to be
02:36 PM Tom_L: did he advise you to stay off ladders?
02:37 PM roycroft: the spine will not get stronger as the bones heal - the rods and screws he used are stronger than the bones
02:37 PM roycroft: he did not, but i'm advising myself
02:38 PM roycroft: i've been much more deliberate and careful since i broke my wrist, but apparently not careful enough
02:39 PM roycroft: i may be going home tomorrow
02:39 PM roycroft: i've gotten up and walked around three times now, and i'll be doing so again this afternoon
02:40 PM xxcoder: thats good. keep strength up
02:40 PM roycroft: yes - the surgeon wants me walking as much as possible'
02:41 PM roycroft: the good news is that the entire hot tub is on my pickup
02:41 PM roycroft: whenever i can unload it, i'll be almost done with dump runs
02:41 PM roycroft: i need to finish moving so i can stop hurting myself
02:45 PM Tom_L: you've had enough pain for the whole of us
02:47 PM roycroft: i think so
02:47 PM roycroft: and these injuries are not like me
02:48 PM roycroft: i had never broken a bone until last year, and never admitted to a hospital until this week
03:10 PM * rdtsc-w sends well-wishes to roycroft
03:46 PM Rab: roycroft, that's messed up, sorry to hear it.
03:49 PM Rab: My mother decided to take up roller skating at age 79. She fell and broke her tailbone, a vertebra, and a couple of ribs. Full recovery--she keeps very active--but the CT scan for her back found breast cancer. After chemo and a radical mastectomy, seems to be clear.
03:50 PM Rab: If it weren't for the roller skating, we wouldn't have known about the cancer for who knows how long.
03:50 PM Rab: I'm not sure there is a moral to this story, except that life sure is funny.
03:52 PM xxcoder: my grandfather had something similiar. he slipped and broke leg bone. it was first time he broke a bone. they found cancer, but it couldnt be removed due to clots from broken leg. he was told he'd live for 90 days. he lived for 10 years
03:53 PM xxcoder: proste cancer
03:58 PM roycroft: the moral, in my view, is that the universe is the boss, not any individual human(s)
04:05 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> oof - glad you are still around!
04:05 PM roycroft: yeah
04:05 PM xxcoder: indeed
04:05 PM roycroft: i could have been paralyzed or dead
04:06 PM roycroft: especially since i did not know it was a serious back injury, and i finished loading the pickup and strapping the load down before driving to the er
04:06 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I am currently moving hydraulic fluid from the Cincinnati unit to the K&T.. (the cincinati unit isn't going to be used - even if I get the lathe running - I don't need a 20hp hydraulic setup)
04:07 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> 2 gallons at a time. But only a 2 step step ladder..
04:09 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I just forget that I am filling the bucket.. (it takes a few minutes)
04:10 PM xxcoder: hopefully it wasnt trying to fill floor by time you got back to it
04:10 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> so far so godd
04:10 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> good
04:12 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I didn't think there was much in it - as the glass sight level was to the bottom.. But then that little bit disapeared.. SO - probably a lot
04:26 PM roycroft: i was on a 3 step step ladder, including the top step
04:26 PM roycroft: i was only on the second step when it slipped
04:27 PM roycroft: had i been higher it might not have been so bad, as i'd have had more time to react and possibly fall on my side instead of my back
04:28 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> yikes
04:45 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/V45UpEFH7gjwiN1D7
04:45 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> and now the oil in the K&T is in the sight glass.. Hasn't been there in years..
04:46 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/Ae4UTGXGn9m8cwzw8
04:56 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> and the oil is still flowing.. wow..
05:04 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> it is slowing down
05:04 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> finally
05:04 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> https://photos.app.goo.gl/UEhvis7RqkPBuPbWA
05:05 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> rather large constant pressure vane pump
05:41 PM JT-Shop: https://radar.weather.gov/station/kpah/standard
06:49 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> it was 82 degrees here today

07:11 PM _unreal_: I'm finally out of that house.
07:15 PM _unreal_: It was one heck of a job getting the CNC machine out of the office room it was located in
07:15 PM _unreal_: had to be turned sideways to be able to walk around the door and corners and ahll
07:15 PM _unreal_: hall
07:15 PM _unreal_: stupid heavy
07:22 PM _unreal_: anything new?
07:36 PM roycroft: i just went for a brief stroll, and am now sitting up in a chair
07:36 PM roycroft: that is so much better than being in bed
07:42 PM _unreal_: I've had a lot of people indicate they are interested in me making stuff for them.
07:42 PM _unreal_: cant wait to buy a house
07:45 PM roycroft: unfortunately this is one of the worst times in history to buy a house
07:46 PM roycroft: but if you can pay a high mortgage now, you should be able to refinance if/when things get better
07:58 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> when I had hernia sugery - the recliner was my friend..
08:00 PM roycroft: i needed to set up dns and website for two domains today
08:00 PM roycroft: the first i did from bed and it took about 3 hours
08:00 PM roycroft: the second i did sitting in this chair with a desk, and it took 20 minutes
08:00 PM roycroft: a recliner would be nice for me
08:00 PM roycroft: but i do not have one at home
08:37 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> well - that filled up the k&t tip top
08:37 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I don't think it has ever been that full
08:52 PM ziper2: xxcoder, I wish I could :(
08:52 PM xxcoder: could fill the floor? im not too sure what that is reply to ;)
09:02 PM ziper2: fix my internet connection :(
09:02 PM xxcoder: oh yes! that sucks
