12:20 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> maybe
12:34 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> I don't remember - but I think it was a wheatstone bridge.. (with the varistor in the middle)
12:34 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> so it was pretty linear
12:34 PM Tom_L: 30-35mph sustained winds here picking up to ~38 by 3pm
12:34 PM Tom_L: winter 'blast' again
12:40 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841@> same - they canceled school at noon
01:04 PM roycroft: our rain should be ending on saturday for a bit, then sunny and unseasonably warm for a few days
01:04 PM roycroft: the flood warnings are cancelled, but the rivers are still really high
01:42 PM ruckus_workshop: What does halui.joint.jogspeed represent? Is this the same scale as MAX_VELOCITY?
01:44 PM Tom_L: halui.joint.jog-speed float in
01:44 PM Tom_L: pin for setting jog speed for plus/minus jogging.
01:45 PM ruckus_workshop: I get that... but is it mm/min if the machine is in metric mode?
01:45 PM ruckus_workshop: A key detail missing from the docs. :)
01:46 PM ruckus_workshop: I don't want to put some value if it is a percent of max instead or something
01:48 PM Tom_L: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/24-hal-components/53591-dynamic-jog-speed-from-hal-possible
01:48 PM Tom_L: dunno if that would shed some light...
01:51 PM Tom_L: maybe it's a range from 0 - 100%?
01:51 PM Tom_L: i've never used it
01:54 PM jpa-: it is in mm/s
01:54 PM jpa-: err
01:54 PM jpa-: mm/min actually
01:55 PM ruckus_workshop: Thank you
02:51 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
02:51 PM Unterhausen: it's a bit annoying I don't have a 5mm drill bit
02:56 PM Unterhausen: That's what I'm doing, and I'm surprised there is no easy supply of 5mm bits.
02:57 PM xxcoder: #9 is basically 5mm. 4.98mm
02:58 PM xxcoder: #8 is close too, at 5.05mm
02:59 PM Unterhausen: yeah, I'm going to end up buying a number drill bit set from HF
02:59 PM Unterhausen: sometimes life reminds me I live in an uncultured rural hellhole
03:03 PM firephoto__ is now known as firephoto_
03:45 PM Tom_L: https://www.amazon.com/Platinumedge-Pieces-Titanium-Drill-Aluminum/dp/B07ZV74KZW
03:45 PM Tom_L: if i did much with mm i would get such a set
03:46 PM Tom_L: can't imagine them being much good at that price
03:46 PM xxcoder: isnt the usual savings for them is not bothering to harden?
03:46 PM xxcoder: if so, wonder if can just harden em and its all good?
03:46 PM Tom_L: or using pot metal instead of real steel
03:47 PM xxcoder: ah yes butteralloy
03:47 PM Tom_L: i've got 2 115 piece sets of imperial
03:47 PM Tom_L: one standard and one jobber length
03:48 PM xxcoder: reviews look bad
03:48 PM xxcoder: nopt stright, too soft to drill metal
03:48 PM Tom_L: i don't doubt it but he did mention shopping at HF so...
03:48 PM xxcoder: it sounds like hf has better ones
03:48 PM Tom_L: better butter
03:49 PM xxcoder: plus you can return in person and face to face complant
03:49 PM xxcoder: yep top quality butteralloy
03:50 PM Tom_L: https://www.mscdirect.com/product/details/01186709
03:50 PM Tom_L: i'm not sure how many pieces you get in a full metric set
04:06 PM Tom_L: and now it's snowing again
04:10 PM rifraf: bit late in the season?
04:10 PM rifraf: we are heading into cooler temps, the heat finally abating somewhat
04:11 PM xxcoder: here we can have snow very late, but pretty rare
04:11 PM xxcoder: mid-april something
04:12 PM rifraf: nice, need to see some snow again one day
04:12 PM Tom_L: rifraf, do you get much snow down there?
04:12 PM rifraf: zero here in QLD, but in the mountains down south yeah, we have some good ski slopes high up but 1000km from here at least
04:14 PM rifraf: were i lived a few years back there was a day or 2 per year with some snow, i saw it once, have to drive high into the mountains on exactly the right day, would have a pic somewhere, i made a 2" high snowman with the kids
04:14 PM Tom_L: by the creek?
04:14 PM rifraf: not there but in the mountains behind, about 2 hours drive up
04:15 PM Tom_L: ahh
04:15 PM rifraf: used to go trout fishing up there, many days below zero C° in winter but mainly frost, seeing the snow fall one day was magic
04:17 PM rifraf: because its pretty close to the equator relativly, but altitude of 1.6km (about a mile high for you)
04:17 PM roycroft: i live about 20 minutes from the snow, now
04:18 PM pere_ is now known as pere
04:18 PM roycroft: only 350m elevation here, but a half hour from here the pass is 1800m high
04:27 PM rifraf: roycroft nice, but would be too cold for me, when i say the days are cooling is now ~ 28-32° each day, better than the 32-40 all summer
04:31 PM roycroft: yeah, it gets cool here
04:32 PM roycroft: below freezing for a good part of the rainy season
04:32 PM roycroft: but it gets up to the upper 30s/low 40s in the summer
04:32 PM roycroft: it's early spring here, and we'll get up to 27 by monday next, although it's only 8 or 9 right ow
04:32 PM roycroft: now
04:33 PM roycroft: all in all it's not bad though
04:37 PM rifraf: too cold, even in our recent cyclone was still over 28-30C without any sun for a week, with over a foot of rain each day
04:41 PM rifraf: Tom_L finally got the Willys Jeep clutch bearing from india, fits great and could use it but currently cannot see it improving the collet chuck alot, apart from being able to release while spinning, not a real practical need
05:00 PM roycroft: we've been getting up to 40mm of rain/day recently, which is a lot for here
05:00 PM roycroft: we had some flooding this past week
05:06 PM Tom_L: rifraf, unless you start noticing wear on the levers you probably wouldn't need the bearing setup
05:11 PM roycroft: i am so proud of myself
05:12 PM roycroft: i went out to the shop at lunch time to check out my router spindle coolant pump, to see if i could figure out why it's not pumping
05:12 PM roycroft: it actually was, but very slowly, so i decided i had to pull it out and check what's going on
05:13 PM roycroft: it's in a very tight place at the bottom of the router table, and would be a pain to service in situ
05:13 PM roycroft: i found that i had installed quick disconnects for the coolant hoses, and an aircraft connector for the mains power to the pump
05:13 PM roycroft: it took me like 30 seconds to disconnect everything and pull the sump and pump out of the table
05:13 PM * roycroft did not remember doing that when he built it
05:28 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:53 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
06:05 PM roycroft: and coolant is flowing well now - my router table is finally fully functional again
06:12 PM xxcoder: awesome
06:13 PM Tom_L: anybody know what F-Droid is?
06:14 PM Tom_L: best i can figure is an alternative to playstore
06:14 PM xxcoder: it is, but you cant add apps to it unless its open source too
06:14 PM xxcoder: so all apps found on f-droid is all open source
06:15 PM * roycroft thinks he'll go out and finish milling some window casings now
06:18 PM Tom_L: xxcoder, how does it populate the open source apps?
06:19 PM xxcoder: think devs submit those to f-droid site but not too sure
06:19 PM xxcoder: https://f-droid.org/docs/Submitting_to_F-Droid_Quick_Start_Guide/
06:20 PM Tom_L: it loaded a bunch
09:37 PM roycroft: nice - i have my window casings done now
09:37 PM xxcoder: did it look good?
09:37 PM roycroft: i really like doing millwork, and it felt really good using my router table again, but if i had much more millwork to do than this i would find a way to get a proper shaper
09:38 PM roycroft: it will look good when do a little cleaning up
09:38 PM roycroft: light sanding, sharpening up an edge with a shoulder plane
09:38 PM roycroft: it looks exactly as i designed it
09:38 PM roycroft: but i designed it before i had the cutters in hand, and i might have made a very minor change if i had them first
09:39 PM roycroft: just making it 1/32" thicker, and revealing more of the ogee profile on the bottom
09:39 PM roycroft: but it looks great as is
09:40 PM roycroft: and maybe i'll make the adjustment when i make the casings for the public part of the house
09:40 PM roycroft: the ones i made are for my bedroom, my office, and my studio
