02:02 AM Deejay: moin
03:07 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> I did
03:07 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> net out-home-z => joint.1.pos-lim-sw-in
03:07 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> If I comment this row, the axis is going back after first touch but doesn't stop on second touch
03:07 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> If I uncomment, I have the error at first touch
04:48 AM JT-Cave: morning
06:17 AM JT-Cave: Tom_L, you should not need anything for flex to work... I can't reproduce the error you got
06:22 AM JT-Cave: well yes I can reproduce the error if you have a file open then open some files then delete the menu items I get the error
06:24 AM JT-Cave: and it's an error to delete the menu but not the action...
06:54 AM Tom_L: the only error i got was about the recent files but i didn't see an action for it in the list
06:54 AM Tom_L: morning
06:54 AM Tom_L: it was a very quick test last night to try and reproduce rdtsc's error
06:55 AM Tom_L: and i _have_ opened linuxcnc with a basic ui with nothing in it before with no errors
06:57 AM JT-Cave: if you add menus they add actions then if you delete the menu the action stays and that gave the error
06:57 AM JT-Cave: I'm just fingering out a better way to find the Open menu now
06:57 AM Tom_L: i wouldn't worry about it
06:58 AM Tom_L: i knew what i was trying wasn't a good test
06:58 AM Tom_L: had a long night and just tried a quick test
07:00 AM JT-Cave: actually it's a good test as you showed me a flaw in the way I searched for the Open menu item
07:30 AM JT-Cave: much better now
07:51 AM JT-Cave: https://gnipsel.com/linuxcnc/flexgui/misc.html#speed-feed-calculator
07:54 AM * JT-Cave starts his chicken day
08:21 AM JT-Cave: https://gnipsel.com/linuxcnc/flexgui/menu.html#recent-files
08:55 AM rdtsc: Tom and JT, on a whim I removed the menu from rpi_mill_3, which then won't run and linuxcnc gives an attribute not found err. Afterwards, I tried to manually re-add it, and Designer renames everything to *_2 and no menu items work, interesting.
08:56 AM rdtsc: So do NOT remove the menu lol
08:56 AM JT-Cave: if you remove a menu item be sure and remove the action from the action editor
08:57 AM JT-Cave: and I just pushed a much better recent menu code
08:59 AM rdtsc: In designer I "unpacked" the rpi_mill_3 into a single 1920x1080 window. Over ssh -X was getting 1-3 frames per second. But running it locally on the pi with screen=full getting at least 10-20fps, nice
09:00 AM rdtsc: with one (Z) running stepper physically and the others emitting pulses but no steppers connected.
09:00 AM JT-Cave: what does unpacked mean?
09:00 AM JT-Cave: is that a ssh thing?
09:00 AM JT-Cave: break fast time
09:01 AM rdtsc: no, meaning took everything out of the tabs and put them on the main window
09:01 AM rdtsc: checking UI responsiveness; everything on and running
09:02 AM rdtsc: have a good breakfast. 2nd coffee here :)
09:03 AM rdtsc: Oh, flexgui/releases says the arm64 was updated last week
09:03 AM JT-Cave: waiting on Tom_L
09:04 AM rdtsc: washed all the dog toys, now they're in the dryer... making one helluva racket lol
09:09 AM rdtsc: Sounds like a circus drummer, sans cymbals and snare: boom boom boom squeak boom
09:16 AM rdtsc: https://pasteboard.co/TWuPNcdtYPBv.jpg
09:17 AM Tom_L: 3" rain since i last checked in
09:18 AM Tom_L: don't see any changes to the repo
09:34 AM JT-Cave: made a bunch of changes to flex this morning
09:35 AM JT-Cave: if you're looking at github.com they often don't update even if you hit the refresh button
09:35 AM JT-Cave: I have to go to my main page then back to the repo to get the changes many times
10:09 AM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> we can fix that for you to do a linux probably
10:21 AM Tom_L: opened mesact and went back to flex and no changes
10:22 AM Tom_L: last thing i see is PR #71
10:23 AM JT-Shop: that's what I see as well
10:23 AM Tom_L: but you made changes since?
10:23 AM JT-Shop: made some this morning
10:23 AM Tom_L: sure you pushed em?
10:23 AM JT-Shop: hmm
10:24 AM Tom_L: checked on 2 pcs here
10:27 AM JT-Cave: sure now...
10:29 AM Tom_L: 3 commits?
10:29 AM Tom_L: they're coming in rather slow here
10:30 AM Tom_L: #72 up
10:32 AM Tom_L: rdtsc, http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/flexgui/
10:33 AM JT-Cave: last ones are just the readme file
10:33 AM Tom_L: yeah i think i got em all
11:51 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> https://www.youtube.com/shorts/z2UfIe_A7lI
12:11 PM Tom_L: :)
01:32 PM Tom_L: https://camotics.org/
01:32 PM Tom_L: anyone try that?
01:32 PM xxcoder: its ok, I wonder if it still defaults running backwards after you open gcode lol
01:33 PM Tom_L: i found another one on my win pc but it's win only
01:45 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> #Tom_L camotics sort of works
01:46 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> Doesn't Seb keep it alive?
01:54 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> y
01:54 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> reinstalling it now 🙂
02:04 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> it took a bit of work to get it running on Sid
02:07 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> skunkworks8841 how much are those drives going for used?
02:12 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> CaptainHindsight: I don't know - have not checked lately. I see them higher than I would want to pay... But I just grabbed an AC version for $80..
02:12 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I just look for the deals. Turned into my dad...
02:12 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> skunkworks8841 sure, I looked for them a few weeks ago
02:13 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> 25a20
02:13 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> b25a20ac
02:13 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> I ended up getting 7nm steppers and drives (closed loop) for $130 with cables
02:13 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> sure - the stuff you can get now is crazy
02:14 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I am going to make up a setup for the 10EE using 2 amc drives and probably HAL
02:14 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> so I need a drive that will handle 220v ac and one that will handle 110v ac
02:14 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> it's for a CNC lathe, i figured having the Z move at no more than 0.5m/second is fast enough
02:15 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> faster and the operator can't react fast enough to hit e-stop
02:15 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> right
02:16 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> but now I'm building up a collection of brushed DC servos again
02:16 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> then again brushed servos are easy for people to play with and make things
02:17 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> yes. we have a ton of amc drives.. but - a lot of 80v ones - so kinda limited.
02:18 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> we do have a hand full of BE40a40ac's - but those are extra for the k&t
02:18 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> (those are some amazing drives too)
02:19 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> I have a few AC servo drives by AB around, that about it for linear AC servos
02:20 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/QeNlKrEPdJvSjnuzZmvbBABE/IMG_20240823_081628.jpg
02:20 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> spindle drie
02:20 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> drive even
02:21 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> huge!
02:21 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> https://www.ebay.com/itm/295984565369
02:22 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> too rich for my blood..
02:22 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> what those big machines I posted last week are using
02:23 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> sure - are they pretty bullet proof?
02:24 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> do they have configuration issues to swap out? like you need fanuc software to set them up?
02:25 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> I haven't heard of one dying
02:26 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> awesome
02:26 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> we have a fanuc om? at work that is running a laser.. I think everything is original - it was purchased in the early 90's
02:26 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> I'm actually reading the data sheets, the other techs don't seems to know much about them
02:27 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> rated output 198A
02:28 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> crazy
02:28 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> igbt's for the win
02:28 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> yeah
02:28 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> they look at the parts like car parts
02:29 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> never look at specs, they just search the part numbers and swap them out
02:29 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> parts cannon!
02:29 PM rdtsc: Sometimes repair 'em at work. All in all, a solid choice.
02:29 PM rdtsc: Thank Tom_L, investigating
02:29 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> I'm probably the only one that goes "huh what is this" and "hey they could have used this instead" and similar
02:29 PM rdtsc: *Thanks
02:30 PM rdtsc: We see far more AB, ABB, Control Techniques, Mitsubishi, etc.
02:31 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> rdtsc: did you see my pics earlier this week?
02:32 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> truck size mills and pallet loaders?
02:32 PM rdtsc: maybe, of the gigantic cotton-candy maker? :)
02:32 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> ok
02:33 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/ucDgNfsPjjdwNkOiLnGCOqbc/IMG_20240822_081753.jpg
02:33 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> nice palle
02:33 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> pallet
02:33 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> what sits on the cotton candy makers
02:34 PM rdtsc: those aren't chips, they are chunks lol
02:34 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> 200V 190A spindle
02:35 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> what surprised me is the lack of 480VAC
02:35 PM rdtsc: cheese and rice... wiring could be less than half as thick if 480
02:36 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> the buss bars are 480VAC 3-ph
02:36 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> each machine has a step down transformer to 208
02:37 PM rdtsc: I think they use 208/240 because it *requires* the step-down; additional safey factor
02:37 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> so only about 10ft of #000 at each machine
02:38 PM rdtsc: just make sure the transformer bolt-on connections are ridicuously tight... seen one burn up from a "not tight enough" connection
02:38 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> the electricians do that
02:39 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> they were actually tightening one last week due to "issues"
02:39 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> had the Fluke powerline monitor on it all
02:40 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> I'm not really sure what I do yet, there's somebody else for most things
02:40 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> I think I run over and determine who to call
02:41 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> operator, engineer, electrician, etc
02:43 PM rdtsc: I'm always on the maintenance crews for making sure high-power connections are clean and tight. Was looking at a massive injection-molding machine; the motor terminals were 150F at the contactor (after they called me out because the previous contactor burned up...) Alas, no longer doing service calls. That was some hot work in the summer.
02:43 PM rdtsc: Well you ARE the cap'n! :)
02:44 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> I also don't want to do too much because then it will become expected
02:45 PM rdtsc: If you job is to keep the ship a-sailing, hey that's a very valid job.
02:45 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> it might be
02:46 PM rdtsc: mine's just to fix stuff when the magic smoke is let out
02:46 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> my trainer last week knows all the "button presses" but I don't think he could spec anything from a catalog or size anything
02:47 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> blue wire #2 to same, but no clue what is does
02:47 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> is/it
02:47 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> like auto mechanics
02:49 PM rdtsc: just considering hydraulic seals - those are a whole galaxy of details in themselves... no button-pusher is going to be able to spec a replacement
02:50 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> even then, they had issues rebuilding the turret last week do to seals not being correct yet the part numbers matched
02:51 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> do/due
02:52 PM rdtsc: I've watched enough FarmCraft101 and DieselCreek to know how challenging it can be... and the pitfalls of scoring it when you don't leave it sit overnight to shrink back down to size lol
02:54 PM rdtsc: Although apparently a hose clamp can be used if time-sensitive
02:55 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> been skimming the data sheets and they keep the control protocol hidden
02:56 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> I saw one short mention of "AC PWM control"
02:56 PM rdtsc: like from the controller to the servos/drives?
02:57 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> the assumption is everything is Fanuc, control drive, power supply, encoders
02:57 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I know some of the older fanuc drives directly took pwm
02:57 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> rdtsc: yes
02:58 PM rdtsc: yeah all of it now is totally proprietary. we have a motor shop too and they had to get a special piece of test gear for the large number of encoders out there... with a hefty monthly fee.
02:58 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> no pinout, just cable part number
02:58 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> you are supposed to have fanuc come out to fix it
02:58 PM rdtsc: for $$$$$
02:59 PM rdtsc: Same with Siemens
02:59 PM rdtsc: but that's $$$$$$
02:59 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> most of these seem to be 40HP AC servos for spindles
03:00 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> and all absolute encoders
03:01 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> which is nice, every time a machine stops it knows where everything is
03:01 PM rdtsc: Fanucs are picky about their backup batteries - assume there is a replacement regimen for them. Losing abs pos can be tricky to reset (maybe operators would be more familiar with it.)
03:02 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> yeah i asked last week, they have a scheduled battery swap
03:02 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> but they weren't sure if they actually follow the schedule
03:03 PM xxcoder: I wonder if putting another battery in parallel then doing swap of old battery, then remove the parallel battery would work
03:03 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> so like i said so far my job is show up
03:03 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> xxcoder: power is on when they swap, they they knew
03:04 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> that they knew
03:04 PM xxcoder: I guess it wouyld destroy the warranty
03:04 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> my week starts in a few hours, have to get ready
03:05 PM rdtsc: xxcoder, some equipment has a supercap to hold some volts while swapping the battery - gives you like 2 minutes. Other equipment (usually older) has nothing - swapping the battery loses position, period.
03:05 PM xxcoder: interesting
03:05 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> and of course there is some complicated routine to get them aligned again
03:06 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> IF you lose battery power
05:36 PM JT-Shop: got all the RR lines and hoses off and now cssb is having web site issues so I can't order the replacement parts
06:05 PM Tom_L: figures
06:12 PM rdtsc: https://www.rockauto.com ? heheh
06:18 PM JT-Shop: rockauto is reman and cssb is new
06:19 PM * JT-Shop calls it a night
07:40 PM roycroft: my brew system is here now, and two rooms in the old house are now totally cleaned up, with only some neatly labled boxes in them ready to move
07:40 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Wow - great work~
07:40 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> !
07:40 PM roycroft: i also bought a bunch of lumber for the new shed when i was in eugene, and that's out in the back yard now
07:40 PM roycroft: progress
07:40 PM roycroft: not fast enough, but it's continual progress
07:41 PM roycroft: i'm going to rent a covered 6x12 trailer later on this week
07:41 PM roycroft: my plan is to put everything i need to haul from inside the house in boxes, and when i get the trailer i'll just fill it up from floor to ceiling, front to back, with boxes
07:42 PM roycroft: if it's all staged ahead of time i think i can move everything in two trips on one day
07:42 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> lol.. I see you calculating the best box size to aid in packing...
07:42 PM roycroft: i'll still have some things in outbuildings and a few things in the garage to move, but the house should be empty by the end of the week
07:42 PM roycroft: i've learned about that
07:43 PM roycroft: lightweight stuff like clothing and linens i can put in medium size boxes
07:43 PM roycroft: but most things i need to put in small boxes
07:43 PM roycroft: becuase i am old and stuff can be heavy
07:43 PM roycroft: when i started moving i bought a bunch of medium boxes and no small boxes
07:44 PM roycroft: now i am only buying small boxes
07:44 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> lol..
07:44 PM roycroft: all the mediums have been unpacked, and i'm resusing them as makes sense
07:44 PM * roycroft notes that he's made no mention at all of large boxes
07:45 PM roycroft: a small box full of papers or books or magazines is still pretty heavy
07:45 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> lol.. my ex would get the biggest boxes she could find and fill them so 2 people couldn't lift them
07:46 PM roycroft: from what the movers told me that's what most people do
07:46 PM roycroft: they really apprciated that i used mostly medium boxes
07:46 PM roycroft: but then they had to move my equipment rack, that was still full of computers and network gear and upses
07:47 PM roycroft: i asked them if i should remove some of the heavy components and they said 'no'
07:47 PM roycroft: then they had to move it
07:47 PM roycroft: it's a full-height enclosed rack cabinet
07:47 PM roycroft: so 7' tall
07:47 PM roycroft: two upses with a buttload of batteries in the bottom
07:47 PM roycroft: anyway, the rest of the move was very smooth
07:48 PM roycroft: but that kicked their arses
07:48 PM roycroft: when we got to the new house, they had such a hard time trying to move it in that i did end up pulling all the ups batteries, making the thing like 75kg lighter
07:49 PM roycroft: this was during peak broken wrist - a couple weeks after my surgery - so i was totally useless
07:52 PM * roycroft needs to draw up some plans for his new shed tonight, so he can purchase the rest of the materials for it tomorrow
07:52 PM roycroft: i guessed on the stuff i bought today, but i really do need some real plans
09:10 PM Tom_L: https://www.foxnews.com/us/us-service-members-injured-wild-storm-hits-mcconnell-afb-forcing-airshow-cancellation
09:11 PM xxcoder: oh boy hope none was in portables
09:12 PM Tom_L: ~10 injuries
09:20 PM Tom_L: my rain gage showed 3" within 2 hrs
09:36 PM roycroft: when i was coming home today i saw diamond peak for the first time in at least a couple months
09:37 PM roycroft: the fire situation is improving quite a bit
