06:34 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> morning
09:12 AM JT-Cave: how's it going Lcvette
09:15 AM rdtsc_away is now known as rdtsc
09:33 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> crappy video, cause i got the camera angle wrong... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qf5Xih2UOhA
09:40 AM * Tom_L pans up 20 deg
09:43 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> lol
09:53 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> travis_farmer: hey, so ya got the bike going again..... great
09:53 AM JT-Cave: the video blew up so I turned it off and great your getting out and riding
09:54 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> yeah, needs fresh cables still, but it rides
09:59 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> low 80's forecast today..... monday and tuesday forecast mid 90's.......
10:55 AM roycroft: hello, folks
10:59 AM Tom_L: did you give yourself a house warming party?
10:59 AM roycroft: no
11:00 AM roycroft: i'm just trying to get settled in
11:00 AM roycroft: it's going to rain in a bit, and i need to pull an ethernet cable from my server rack, at one side of the house, to my office, on the opposite side
11:01 AM roycroft: i'm going to make it a temporary run, along the outside of the house, so i should get started pretty soon
11:01 AM roycroft: i think it's going to be a while before i'm ready for a housewarming party
11:01 AM roycroft: and my phone switch still doesn't connect to the sip providers
11:04 AM roycroft: and yikes - the forecast just changed, now calling for 36mm of rain today
11:04 AM roycroft: it's gonna get pretty wet
11:15 AM JT-Cave: we had 4 1/2" of rain the other day
11:21 AM Tom_L: alot of rain for a day
11:21 AM Tom_L: no time to soak in
11:44 AM roycroft: there was a big fire last night by the railroad tracks close to my hold house
11:44 AM roycroft: old, rather
11:44 AM roycroft: it was an unhoused camp, which is the usual source of those fires
11:44 AM roycroft: that's something i won't have to deal with here
11:45 AM roycroft: just the big lightning-started fires
11:52 AM * roycroft gets moving on the cable pull
12:17 PM rdtsc is now known as rdtsc_away
01:13 PM rdtsc_away is now known as rdtsc
02:23 PM XXCoder: https://youtu.be/8i9RxhiDcpg
02:23 PM XXCoder: guy restores, customizes ax by grinder and laser machine
02:33 PM XXCoder: man that was nice video
04:12 PM rdtsc is now known as rdtsc_away
04:24 PM JT-Shop: that sander is cool
04:27 PM JT-Shop: didn't look like he did that good of job of fitting the axe to the handle
04:27 PM XXCoder: yeah thats bit of a weak spot
04:28 PM XXCoder: ultimately it seems to work fine so eh
04:28 PM XXCoder: I probably would have added 2 more wedges, at 90 degree offset to first one to expand it that direction too
04:28 PM XXCoder: even stronger
04:30 PM XXCoder: needed? probably not but yeah lol
04:30 PM JT-Shop: if the handle is fitted properly only one wedge is needed
04:32 PM XXCoder: would that video one need em or not?
04:32 PM XXCoder: (more than one)
04:33 PM JT-Shop: interesting leather work
04:33 PM XXCoder: yep. loved taht section also
04:52 PM rdtsc_away is now known as rdtsc
04:58 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> well - the 42 drove down and back up the driveway..
04:59 PM JT-Shop: nice
05:00 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> We have come a long way...
05:00 PM JT-Shop: top speed?
05:00 PM XXCoder: nice
05:00 PM XXCoder: 42 ;)
05:00 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> wiki says 48 mph
05:01 PM JT-Shop: 3 speed?
05:01 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> have to get the plates on it and see how scary it is at speed
05:01 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> 4
05:01 PM XXCoder: nice my wild guess was within 10%
05:01 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> non-syncro
05:01 PM JT-Shop: double clutch on the fly?
05:02 PM JT-Shop: grandpa had a very old chevy dump with a two speed behind the 3 speed tranny, never could figure out the correct combination to shift the 2 speed
05:03 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I will learn - I guess
05:03 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> https://surfacezero.com/g503/showphoto.php?photo=173343&title=chevrolet-g506-data-plates&cat=1685
05:03 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> that is the patern..
05:04 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> it actually has a finger latch to get it into reverse
05:04 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> that suprised me.
05:04 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I guess - being non-sycro - it probably is wam bam - oops - reverse
05:05 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> The linkage seems to be also interlocked that you can't have the front wheels engaged in high..
05:07 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I should see if it gets up to the top of the hill in 4wd
05:07 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> maybe when I get more comfortable with it.
05:08 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> also.. I was expecting a hydralic tank under the seat for the dump.. but there isn't.
05:08 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> so - is there enough fluid in the system for the dump?
05:09 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I still haven't engauge the pto pump and see if it dumps

06:00 PM roycroft: blah - i had to run back to eugene to get some supplies for finishing the network cabling
06:00 PM roycroft: i did haul another load of stuff while i was at it, but i lost three hours on that trip
06:00 PM JT-Shop: how long is the round trip
06:00 PM roycroft: it's an hour each way
06:00 PM roycroft: so two hours round trip + an hour for shopping and loading up
06:01 PM roycroft: my studio has no overhead lighting (yet), and i had no spare lamps, so i got a couple torchieres to get me by for a while, and now i can work in that room at night
06:01 PM roycroft: so that's good
06:01 PM JT-Shop: but every trip you make you haul more to the new house
06:01 PM roycroft: yes
06:02 PM roycroft: i don't mind the expense of the trip - i need to get that stuff moved anyway
06:02 PM roycroft: i just have a lot going on today
06:02 PM roycroft: speaking of which, my email break is about over, and i need to terminate the network connection
06:03 PM * roycroft hasn't moved house for almost 30 years, but is starting to resigning to the fact that the move dictates his schedule, and not vise-versa
06:03 PM roycroft: vice-versa
06:04 PM JT-Shop: I'll never move again
06:04 PM roycroft: and yeah, i'm touch typing again well enough that i'm starting to fix typos
06:04 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Going to run fiber up to the tower.. I have 6 pair buryable at work
06:04 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Single mode
06:04 PM roycroft: i don't know if this is my forever home, but it's my next to forever home if not
06:04 PM roycroft: hi skunkworks8841
06:04 PM roycroft: did you get the message that i shipped your megasquirt the other day?
06:04 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Hi! You got my check?
06:05 PM roycroft: i think it's at the post office
06:05 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Yes - thank you!
06:05 PM roycroft: i'll check it out tomorrow
06:05 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Let me know
06:05 PM roycroft: i did not have time to ship to you this past week, but i had even less time to lose track of the package and have to find it later to ship it :)
06:06 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I am currently collecting checks from my aunt's to help out my uncle..
06:06 PM roycroft: as soon as the moving calamity commenced i knew my life would be total chaos for a while, and i wanted the megasquirt not to be caught up in chaos
06:06 PM roycroft: i hope it works out for you well
06:06 PM roycroft: it's a good project, and i wish i had time to finish the vw bus project for which it was intended
06:07 PM * roycroft goes to terminate the network cable and get ethernet into his office
06:10 PM * JT-Shop has to drop the C8 off at the body shop to get the damaged mirror fixed
06:12 PM JT-Shop: I'm glad the PDR records everything including video so I had no problem showing the lady was at fault for opening her door onto my mirror
06:12 PM JT-Shop: showing > proving
06:13 PM roycroft: jt-shop: it's actually only 45 minutes from here to downtown eugene
06:13 PM roycroft: but where i live is southeast of eugene, and the old house is on the northwest end of town
06:15 PM JT-Shop: do you have your shop tools moved?
06:26 PM roycroft: no
06:27 PM roycroft: that's phase 2 (or 3)
06:27 PM roycroft: i have a bunch of tools here, but none of the machines
06:27 PM roycroft: i have a few festool sanders and my track saw here
06:28 PM roycroft: the shop is full of demo material from the remodeling work - when i get my pickup up here next i'm going to load it up with that stuff and haul it to the dump
06:28 PM roycroft: then i can start moving machines in
06:28 PM JT-Shop: I bet you will be glad when the move is over with
06:28 PM JT-Shop: I have so much crap to go though and toss out of get rid of it ain't funny
06:29 PM JT-Shop: it's amazing how much you accumulate building automagic assembly machines for 15 years
06:30 PM * JT-Shop calls it a night
06:31 PM roycroft: i was planning on purging about half my stuff
06:31 PM roycroft: now i'm thinking more like 2/3 or 3/4
06:31 PM roycroft: but i don't have the luxury of doing the purge before the move, thanks to the broken wrist screwing up the schedule
06:31 PM roycroft: so i'll probably have to rent a storage unit, put the stuff to purge there, and then sell what i can as quickly as i can
06:32 PM * roycroft just got one of the torchieres set up, and now can see while he's terminating the network cable
07:34 PM * Tom_L thinks he still has a 5.25 floppy drive
07:37 PM jdh: I have a few I saved for copying PDP11 floppies
07:37 PM Tom_L: and a dat drive somewhere
07:37 PM Tom_L: i think that's what they were called...
07:43 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Snuck away
07:43 PM XXCoder: any 8" drive?
07:43 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/guuvLDcgldfneZxfSlBjnBIy/PXL_20240602_235447025.jpg

07:44 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Close
07:44 PM XXCoder: slowly setting stuff up eh
07:54 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Slowly
08:06 PM Tom_L: what's the process to upright it?
08:16 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Probably a gin pole and 2 tractors
08:17 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Still have to figure out the rotar and antenna...
08:31 PM roycroft: well yay
08:31 PM roycroft: the
08:31 PM roycroft: network link to my office is working now
08:31 PM roycroft: and i have my imac back online
08:32 PM roycroft: i have hours of work to do still to get all the computer gear fully functional, but i can go to work tomorrow
08:33 PM roycroft: and i only have the primary display set up right now - i'll do the other two later
09:16 PM roycroft: my mopier survived the move
09:18 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcodery> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/xDgVZIAcySPKZVDkLbcpwjOa/2gpfkk0gawnb1.png
09:18 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcodery> talking about imac and offices:
09:26 PM roycroft: i was concerned about the printer - the copier repair place that service it told me that the only safe way to move is was to let them do it, for several hundred dollars
09:32 PM Tom_L: of course
09:33 PM _unreal_: So I have been working on my big cnc machine again FINALLY
09:33 PM _unreal_: just endless BS with my fathers passing
09:34 PM _unreal_: #@$@#$@ asswhol....
09:34 PM _unreal_: finally got the X AND Z axis steppers mounted
09:34 PM _unreal_: took all day but finally done.
09:34 PM _unreal_: then again this is a from scratch build
09:35 PM _unreal_: My next steps
09:35 PM _unreal_: I need to mill some custom end bearning housings
09:35 PM _unreal_: bearing
09:35 PM _unreal_: for the X axis. plus some agressive shims for the Z foundation plate because it has a strike issue. needs to be gapped
09:37 PM _unreal_: I also pulled out the original wiring harness I build for the lcnc controller
09:38 PM _unreal_: I'm going to switch controllers same motor drivers but different controllers.
11:51 PM Deejay: moin
