12:06 AM selroc: hi pink, I came with high expectations :-)
12:38 AM ziper: gues
12:38 AM ziper: the guy said i could use their cnc machjine
01:33 AM Deejay: moin
05:01 AM XXCoder: LOL this is pretty cool https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkuBQ3wkHwE
05:11 AM Tom_L: morning
05:11 AM XXCoder: morning
05:15 AM jthornton: morning
06:12 AM Vq: afternoon
06:55 AM XXCoder: jthornton: yeserday and today i finally ran the haas machine that replaced the old fadal
06:56 AM XXCoder: had to learn how haas control works.
06:56 AM XXCoder: i like some but im not impressed with some stuff
06:56 AM XXCoder: and handle is scary dangerous
06:57 AM XXCoder: if I turn too fast it will not stop for short bit after I stop turning encoder wheel
06:57 AM XXCoder: which means crashing after stopping is possible.
06:57 AM XXCoder: kaboom
07:07 AM jthornton: has some wind up
07:07 AM XXCoder: thats what it is called? wind up?
07:09 AM XXCoder: im kinda puzzled why haas has that. its far newer machine but slower, AND has that problem while much older old fadal had none of that
07:30 AM jthornton: yea if you spin the dial faster than it can go it wants to finish instead of just stopping when you stop
07:32 AM XXCoder: its funny, it has that issue and it has .1 movement handle speed
07:32 AM Tom_L: they teach the haas control here at the vo'tech
07:32 AM XXCoder: which helps actually since i can slowly move down faster (sounds weird but there ya go)
08:12 AM andypugh: That handle operation is selectable in LinuxCNC.
08:13 AM andypugh: In that the machine can either stop at the point that you dialled in, or stop when you stop turning the handle.
08:13 AM andypugh: Both options make some sort of sense…
09:53 AM MacGalempsy: hello
09:57 AM tiwake: ponies
03:07 PM Deejay: re
03:49 PM Deejay: gn8
06:35 PM andypugh: Todays project: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBcEJLWVBtY
06:39 PM Rab: andypugh, is that for any specific application?
06:39 PM andypugh: Yes, I am making a hex crimper
06:40 PM andypugh: But I have been wanting to make a scroll chuck for a while, the geometry of the jaws is interesting: https://photos.app.goo.gl/FVDwzbgC4t48qk7A9
06:41 PM Tom_L: ahh that's what that was for
06:44 PM andypugh: I was puzzled about how to do the job until I had the idea of making a “stick” of jaws each with the right offset.
06:45 PM andypugh: (jaw bodies on 20mm spacing, teeth on 20 + ( 2.5mm / 6 ) spacing)
06:46 PM andypugh: Then each tooth is defined by arcs with the centre offset by pitch/3 from the centre line, with the inner radius being the smallest scroll tooth that it sees, and the outer radius matching the biggest.
06:47 PM andypugh: You kinf of imagine that the teeth are just a parallel spiral thread, but if you do that the jaws can only fit in one place.
06:52 PM andypugh: I imageine that the conical scroll chucks were much stronger than a flat scroll one: http://www.lathes.co.uk/taylor/page3.html
06:53 PM andypugh: Though it isn’t immediately obious to me if that design of chuck can expand out inside the ID of work?
07:17 PM Tom_L: andypugh so a parallel helix like i described earlier wouldn't work?
07:18 PM andypugh: I don’t think so.
07:18 PM Tom_L: i've never tried to make anything like that
07:19 PM andypugh: I only tried it because it looked difficult :-)
07:19 PM Tom_L: was it?
07:19 PM andypugh: Slightly.
07:20 PM Tom_L: so what do you need to crimp with it?
07:20 PM andypugh: I had to do some fitting, for example, as the 6 slots came out different widths. Probably a backlash / stiffness thing with my mill.
07:20 PM andypugh: I’d rather not be more specific, its for a job.
07:21 PM Tom_L: k
07:55 PM XXCoder: nice lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQHoTTP_Ih4
