04:54 PM lcnc-relay: <sliptonic_bradcollette@> Hey guys.
04:54 PM lcnc-relay: After the meetup a few weeks ago, I got out and started chatting with some folks in the FreeCAD community and even some local shops. I was asking about the current state-of-the-art when it comes to tool synchronization. The consensus opinion I was hearing was that it's actually a real mess. So I looked around for some open source projects and found nothing. Millions of hits on people writing scripts to go from CAMx to Controller-y...
04:54 PM lcnc-relay: ... tooltable and back but nothing central or universal.
04:54 PM lcnc-relay: So...
04:58 PM lcnc-relay: <sliptonic_bradcollette@> I started building something. I'd like some opinions.
04:58 PM lcnc-relay: The basic idea is an open-source tool synchronization server. Something you could self-host or run on a platform. Then connect to whatever CAM you've got and whatever machine controls you happen to use.
04:58 PM lcnc-relay: The server would:
04:58 PM lcnc-relay: - start with standards in mind (IEEE13399 for starters and newer formats moving forward)

05:02 PM lcnc-relay: <sliptonic_bradcollette@> I've got a pretty good start on it. I put it in a new github organization and I'm calling it 'smooth-core'
05:02 PM lcnc-relay: https://github.com/loobric/smooth-core
05:02 PM lcnc-relay: I've also built a preliminary FreeCAD addon that patches the tool library system to do synchronizatoin.

05:02 PM lcnc-relay: <sliptonic_bradcollette@> I would also very much appreciate a github star/fork/follow to help get the open-source love going.
