02:42 AM rmu: pere: linuxcnc seems to compile fine with gcc 14
02:44 AM pere: rmu: did I fail to explain the problem?
02:45 AM pere: <URL: https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/linuxcnc > show that linuxcnc will be removed from testing August 23th because gtksourceview3 fail to build with gcc 14, as discussed in <URL: https://bugs.debian.org/1075055 >.
02:46 AM pere: thus the interesting fix is for gtksourceview3, which I am unable to see why fail to build with gcc 14, and have not had time to investigate.
03:03 AM rmu: oh ok. no i didn't get that.
03:07 AM rmu: pere: is this a linuxcnc specific package? nobody else affected? bug says it is maintained by debian gnome maintainers
03:13 AM rmu: ok found the error gtksourceview.c:1589:43: error: assignment to ‘GtkSourceBuffer *’ {aka ‘struct _GtkSourceBuffer *’} from incompatible pointer type ‘GtkTextBuffer *’ {aka ‘struct _GtkTextBuffer *’} [-Wincompatible-pointer-types]
03:15 AM rmu: it just needs a cast to GtkSourceBuffer*
03:23 AM pere: rmu: I doubt it is linuxcnc specific, but no idea how many are using it.
03:24 AM pere: rmu: sending a patch to the bts report increase the chance of a fix significantly. :)
03:24 AM rmu: the fix seems trivial, it builds, i didn't run it yet though
03:25 AM rmu: will have to think of a non-offensive commit message, i don't particularly like the gtk mess ;-)
03:29 AM pere: if you want to be extra nice to the debian maintainers, you can send the patch upstream too.
03:32 AM rmu: when replying to the bug, is it better to include the patch in email text or attach it?
04:16 AM pere: It depend on its size. if it is just a few lines (<50), I tend to inline it, if it is longer and touching more files, I tend to attach it.
10:01 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish000#0> pere, and, rmu, sure am glad you are working on the problems. thanks.
