02:48 PM jepler: Yeah I saw that too. I'm going to try it on one of my pi4s (I have two)
02:51 PM jepler: Interesting, with conflicts: raspberrypi-kernel, with the system in the state "my linux-image installed" I can install raspberrypi-kernel and it removes my linux-image. But with raspberrypi-kernel installed I can't install my linux-image. That's .. less than ideal
02:51 PM jepler: though .. I did the first thing with apt and the second thing with dpkg, maybe apt knows better
02:54 PM Tom_L: jepler, did you optimize the kernel when you built your image?
02:55 PM jepler: I used a configuration file that JT provided via his website.
02:55 PM Tom_L: seems it might be a little better than the one i did from jt's site yesterday
02:55 PM Tom_L: i added his config line as well
02:55 PM jepler: I didn't deliberately change anything
02:55 PM Tom_L: any kernel specific changes?
02:55 PM Tom_L: i didn't change anything in the kernel when building it
02:56 PM jepler: https://github.com/jepler/pi-gen/blob/master/stage1/00-boot-files/files/config-rt.txt
02:56 PM Tom_L: i did start with the gui version rpi provides
02:57 PM jepler: force_turbo=1 is the only thing I add. I don't add isolcpus= or some other items that JT had in his file
02:57 PM Tom_L: yeah that was in the #include file at the bottom already iirc
02:57 PM jepler: You can see the kernel config of my kernel package at /boot/config-4.19.71-rt24-v7l+
02:58 PM jepler: if the kernel versions are different it could account for different behavior. Or maybe it's just variation within normal range
02:58 PM Tom_L: i just wanted to build one from scratch and see
02:58 PM Tom_L: they weren't that different
04:43 PM jepler: just how bad can it be? wait, don't answer that. https://www.woot.com/offers/sainsmart-genmitsu-cnc-3018-pro-router
04:44 PM jepler: (it even says "pro" right in the name)
04:51 PM Tom_L: those look like nema17 steppers
04:52 PM jepler: yeah I'm not seriously proposing it to anybody, just something I saw go by on a website
04:53 PM Tom_L: i figured that but hey, they're using lead screws not belts
04:55 PM Tom_L: might be great for someone wanting to mill PCBs until the copper got sucked into the spindle motor
