11:03 AM hazzy1 is now known as hazzy
04:06 PM Roguish: check this: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/debian-gnu-linux/9msvkqc78pk6
04:47 PM Tom_L: to run under windows 10?
06:49 PM KimK: Tom_L: Right, they're calling it WSL (Windows subsystem for Linux) but it requires Win 10 as the OS and installs Debian 9 as the subsystem, so shouldn't it really be called LSW (Linux subsystem for Windows)? Oh well, nevermind.
06:56 PM Tom_L: not a April 1 spoof then?
06:56 PM Tom_L: could have fooled me :D
06:58 PM KimK: I don't know, maybe.
07:08 PM KimK: It doesn't seem like a hoax, there are other references: https://www.techrepublic.com/article/windows-10-will-let-everyone-run-linux-inside-windows-following-fall-creators-update/ , https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/install-win10
07:42 PM hazzy-dev: I believe there has been a Ubuntu version for some time, I think I tried it out or maybe a friend showed it to me
07:42 PM hazzy-dev: it seemed to work fine, but I don't get the point
07:45 PM hazzy-dev: oh, thats right, TurBoss was playing with it
08:14 PM TurBoss: is tru
08:14 PM TurBoss: e
08:15 PM TurBoss: I use it, not much
08:16 PM TurBoss: you can run linux apps on windows like virt-manager
10:28 PM Tom_L: ok, jt posted this: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/jvDN76Pq7Z/ to install preempt-rt and i followed it all the way to the end and got an error on the last 'apt-get install linuxcnc-uspace
10:28 PM Tom_shop: E: Failed to fetch http://linucxnc.org/dists/stretch/InRelease Clearsigned file isn't valid, got 'NOSPLIT' (does the network require authentication?)
10:29 PM Tom_L: with that error
10:29 PM Tom_L: did some of the files move?
10:32 PM seb_kuzminsky: no, nothing should have moved
10:33 PM Tom_L: i could try one of the test iso files but i decided to try this first
10:33 PM Tom_L: http://www.linuxcnc.org/testing-stretch-rtpreempt/
10:33 PM Tom_L: those
10:40 PM seb_kuzminsky: i just tried apt-get update from linuxcnc.org, 2.7-uspace and base, and got no errors
10:40 PM seb_kuzminsky: what distro are you on?
10:54 PM Tom_L: debian 9
10:57 PM seb_kuzminsky: weird, that just worked for me
10:57 PM Tom_L: i'll check for typos
10:58 PM seb_kuzminsky: are you using a proxy?
10:58 PM Tom_shop: no
10:59 PM seb_kuzminsky: i googled your error message and got this as the first hit: https://askubuntu.com/questions/899009/sudo-apt-update-always-giving-clearsigned-file-isnt-valid-got-nosplit-does
11:02 PM seb_kuzminsky: we don't have an InRelease file in our debian archive, but apt should skip over it and get Release instead, which we do have
11:03 PM seb_kuzminsky: InRelase is a Relase file with an inline signature, normal Release files have their signatures in a separate Release.gpg file
11:03 PM seb_kuzminsky: which we have
11:04 PM Tom_shop: i'll wait and ask jt about it, he may wanna update his directions
11:05 PM seb_kuzminsky: i think his instructions are fine, this seems like a network problem on your end (or your ISP, or something)
11:05 PM seb_kuzminsky: here's a debian "bug" about it: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=807049
11:05 PM Tom_shop: it shows that preempt is installed, just not uspace
11:06 PM seb_kuzminsky: paste the output from this command: sudo apt-get update -o Debug::Acquire::http=1
11:07 PM Tom_shop: E: Failed to fetch http://linucxnc.org/dists/stretch/InRelease Clearsigned file isn't valid, got 'NOSPLIT' (does the network require authentication?)
11:07 PM Tom_shop: E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
11:16 PM Tom_shop: ok, i tried using wget http://linucxnc.org/dists/stretch/InRelease
11:17 PM Tom_shop: and it says Saving to: 'Inrelease'
11:17 PM Tom_shop: not being a linux guru, i've no idea what to do with that now :D
11:18 PM Tom_shop: shows a file 'Inrelease' in the user directory of 906 bytes
11:18 PM Tom_shop: owner: root
11:20 PM Tom_shop: just looks to me like some sort of error log
11:21 PM Tom_shop: sleep calls, i'll take it up later...
