[14:54:42] <andypugh> Anyone here good with CL?
https://forum.linuxcnc.org/forum/25-classicladder/31214-monostables-stop-working
[15:04:30] <cradek> I don't know what a monostable is
[15:04:44] <cradek> wonder what "values" are that he's resetting
[15:05:12] <andypugh> CL is a never-opened book to me
[15:10:07] <cradek> http://www.linuxcnc.org/docs/html/ladder/classic-ladder.html#_monostables
[15:10:16] <cradek> it's the simple timer
[15:16:29] <andypugh> Would one expect to see “Note: Using POSIX realtime” with uspace and preempt-rt?
[15:31:51] <jepler> andypugh: yes
[15:33:01] <andypugh> OK
[15:34:43] <andypugh> Yikes! After this operation, 270 MB of additional disk space will be used.
[15:34:50] <cradek> andypugh: breaking when he added things makes me wonder if he has numThis and numThat set right:
http://www.linuxcnc.org/docs/html/ladder/classic-ladder.html#_realtime_module
[15:35:00] <andypugh> (That’s gedit on Raspbian)
[15:35:10] <cradek> pulls in all of gnome probably
[15:35:23] <andypugh> Looks like it.
[15:35:44] <andypugh> libopencv does not sound like a prerequisite for gedit
[15:35:53] <andypugh> But mousepad is horrible
[15:35:59] <cradek> try turning off install recommends
[15:36:18] <andypugh> It’s a 16GB card, I can live with it
[15:36:19] <jepler> i.e., apt-get --no-install-recommends gedit
[15:36:50] <jepler> as for opencv, well, don't you want to be able to open scans in gedit and just edit the text?
[15:40:42] <cradek> andypugh: did you see my response about ladder
[15:42:57] <andypugh> No, sorry, I was otherwise baffled
[15:44:31] <andypugh> Ah, you mean here?
[15:44:47] <cradek> andypugh: breaking when he added things makes me wonder if he has numThis and numThat set right:
http://www.linuxcnc.org/docs/html/ladder/classic-ladder.html#_realtime_module
[15:44:54] <andypugh> I saw it. I didn’t particularly understand it :-)
[15:45:09] <cradek> you say the (max) number of things like counters at load time
[15:45:43] <cradek> he should check that stuff (and tell us more)
[15:49:42] <cradek> of course a ladder that reproduces it in sim would be gold
[15:50:17] <andypugh> I passed on your idea
[15:50:23] <cradek> thanks
[15:50:41] <cradek> I shouldn't be too tired to log in and post myself, but ...
[15:51:12] <andypugh> You are an anonymous someone. If that’s wrong I can change it
[15:51:35] <cradek> nah that's perfect

[15:58:43] <mozmck> andypugh: what is horrible about mousepad?
[15:59:04] <jepler> no vim keybinding mode, maybe :ducks:
[15:59:12] <andypugh> It will only open one file at a time, is the main thing
[15:59:43] <cradek> can't you run more than one?
[15:59:45] <mozmck> Is that in wheezy? I can open in multiple tabs in *buntu 14.04
[15:59:48] <jepler> you want tabs or split windows or something, rather than starting three mousepad windows?
[16:00:19] <mozmck> Also has syntax highlighting
[16:00:27] <andypugh> I tend to forget the &, so need to open a new terminal to open a new mousepad.
[16:00:42] <jepler> type ctrl-z, bg, and hit enter
[16:00:43] <cradek> control-Z bg enter
[16:01:04] <cradek> now you know that's got to be good advice
[16:01:17] <jepler> (actually you can press enter with the same amount of force as the other keys, more or less)
[16:01:36] <mozmck> hah!
[16:04:17] <andypugh> I took it to mean the opposite of missing enter. Which reminds me, my work laptop has “home” to the right of the undersized “backspace” button. That’s annoying.
[16:04:43] <jepler> I don't think there's a new laptop made without some terrible keyboard layout compromise
[16:05:21] <andypugh> I have never wanted a Home key. Or a scroll lock. Or, for that matter, caps-lock
[16:06:09] <andypugh> Hi tinkerer
[16:07:40] <tinkerer> Hi
[16:08:22] <tinkerer> try out scite

[16:15:13] <andypugh> scite wins.
[16:17:23] <tinkerer> :)
[16:52:15] <tinkerer> andypugh: do you think that I am ready for a pull request ?
https://github.com/tinkercnc/linuxcnc-mirror-old/tree/hm2_raspi
[16:56:19] <andypugh> tinkerer: I want to see if it doesn’t break an x86 installation. (Also, you need to undef the WOT)
[16:56:33] <andypugh> Have you tried the runtests script?
[16:56:54] <andypugh> (doing it now)
[16:57:59] <tinkerer> https://github.com/tinkercnc/linuxcnc-mirror-old/blob/hm2_raspi/src/hal/drivers/mesa-hostmot2/hm2_rpspi.c#L20
[17:39:31] <tinkerer> ah, does we/I need somthing like this: #if !defined(TARGET_PLATFORM_RASPBERRY)\n#error "This driver is for the Raspberry Pi platform only"\n#endif
[17:43:29] <tinkerer> Runtest: 181 tests run, 181 successful, 0 failed + 0 expected
[17:48:57] <tinkerer> andypugh: brexit? ;)

[20:10:42] <andypugh> Someone is reporting that having installed uspace and linuxcnc from debs he didn’t have halcompile, and apt-get install linuxcnc-dev installs the rtai kernel. Is this to be expected?
[20:11:04] <andypugh> [citation needed]
https://forum.linuxcnc.org/forum/30-cnc-machines/30876-emcoturn-120-lathe-retrofit?start=160#77114
[20:12:01] <cradek> I think it's spelled linuxcnc-uspace and linuxcnc-uspace-dev
[20:13:13] <cradek> linuxcnc-uspace-dev:
[20:13:13] <cradek> Installed: (none)
[20:13:14] <cradek> Candidate: 1:2.7.4
[20:13:19] <cradek> yeah, that's the ticket
[20:14:13] <cradek> that might be a doc error?
[20:16:17] <andypugh> Not sure
[21:21:23] <cradek> wow, Ed's photos of his mini lathe as-received:
https://softsolder.com/
[21:52:27] <Tom_itx> is there anything that comes in in good shape anymore?
[22:02:22] <mozmck> I built packages of master on 16.04 installed in VirtualBox, and I had to add --dpkg-shlibdeps-params=--ignore-missing-info to the dh_shlibdeps line in debian/rules because it couldn't find info on the openGL lib installed by vbox
[22:03:11] <mozmck> So I'm guessing I should use KVM for building instead?
[22:04:39] <mozmck> hmm, or maybe not install the guest additions
[22:08:28] <cradek> maybe pbuilder?
[22:10:58] <mozmck> does that run another system?
[22:11:36] <mozmck> My host is linux mint, and I'm trying to do some testing with xubuntu 16.04
[22:12:35] <cradek> it's the thing that builds isolated, without depending on the state of your current system so much
[22:12:40] <cradek> like what buildbot uses
[22:12:58] <cradek> but yeah if you avoid the guest stuff maybe it'll be fine
[22:13:10] <cradek> that stuff is generally badly packaged
[22:13:28] <mozmck> huh. I saw that buildbot had something for KVM. I'll have to look at pbuilder again.
[23:11:12] -linuxcnc-github:#linuxcnc-devel- [13linuxcnc] 15hazelnusse commented on issue #106: @SebKuzminsky is there anything more needed for this to go in? The only thing I can think of is setting up a build slave that has libmodbus 3.1.x so that tests can be run that would actually exercise the code in this patchset. I realize this is probably pretty low priority so no worries if you guys want to wait before merging this. 02
