[08:54:49] <seb_kuzminsky> when i try to git fetch from glo it just hangs with no output
[08:55:19] <seb_kuzminsky> if i try to connect with ssh -v, it connects and talks to the server, then hangs with this output:
[08:55:38] <seb_kuzminsky> debug1: Offering RSA public key: linuxcnc commit key for seb@highlab.com
[08:55:38] <seb_kuzminsky> debug1: Server accepts key: pkalg ssh-rsa blen 279
[09:07:56] <KGB-linuxcnc> 05mozmck/gscreen-rapid-override c69f410 06linuxcnc 04. branch deleted * 14http://git.linuxcnc.org/?p=linuxcnc.git;a=commitdiff;h=c69f410
[09:45:58] <cradek> seb_kuzminsky: weird. I just pulled like normal and it was fine
[09:47:27] <cradek> Apr 10 14:25:34 git sshd[28232]: error: PAM: authentication error for root from 221.203.3.18
[09:47:36] <cradek> someone is very ineptly trying to guess the root password, though
[09:50:12] <cradek> seb_kuzminsky: I see nothing about you in the log since the 8th, when it succeeded fine
[10:07:32] <mozmck> what is glo?
[10:07:41] <jepler> mozmck: git.linuxcnc.org.
[10:07:55] <mozmck> oh, I see. I guess it is working fine for me then
[10:17:33] <seb_kuzminsky> i guess i'm doing something wrong
[10:17:48] <seb_kuzminsky> you'd think after 20 years i'd have learned how to use ssh
[10:20:12] <cradek> auth.log:Apr 10 14:57:39 git sshd[31822]: Accepted publickey for seb from 174.16.215.53 port 33123 ssh2
[10:20:15] <cradek> aha
[10:20:18] <cradek> what did you do?
[10:26:07] <KGB-linuxcnc> 03Sebastian Kuzminsky 052.7 8acb369 06linuxcnc 10VERSION 10debian/changelog LinuxCNC 2.7.0~pre6 * 14http://git.linuxcnc.org/?p=linuxcnc.git;a=commitdiff;h=8acb369
[10:26:07] <KGB-linuxcnc> 03Sebastian Kuzminsky 05signed tags fb9c8e2 06linuxcnc 03v2.7.0-pre6 LinuxCNC v2.7.0~pre6 (tagged commit: 8acb369) * 14http://git.linuxcnc.org/?p=linuxcnc.git;a=commitdiff;h=fb9c8e2
[10:26:24] <cradek> yay!
[10:26:41] <seb_kuzminsky> i un-horked the double forwarding of my ssh-agent through two levels of screen
[10:26:59] * seb_kuzminsky likes to make things difficult for himself
[10:27:04] <cradek> ooh, that sounds smelly
[10:27:44] <seb_kuzminsky> my .bashrc has bad aji: http://senseis.xmp.net/?BadAji
[10:31:29] <pcw_home> mozmck: ~a day of normal desktop use preemt-rt latency with $39 DC7800SFF + e8500 CPU
[10:31:31] <pcw_home> http://freeby.mesanet.com/e8500-preemt-rt-dc7800-1day.png
[10:32:16] <mozmck> pcw_home: that's interesting. I'm getting about the same latency, but it's much more jagged.
[10:32:20] <pcw_home> changing the CPU to a E8500 makes it fine for normal use + 4 KHz hm2_eth servo loop
[10:33:47] <mozmck> I tried quite a few different settings in the kernel that looked like they might make a difference, but really could not tell much difference with most.
[10:34:07] <mozmck> Mine is all 64-bit so far, so I plan to try 32 bit next.
[10:38:46] <pcw_home> maybe thats the difference (I did turn off the no_hz stuff after reading that there are some bugs with it and preemt-rt)
[10:40:32] <mozmck> I didn't turn it all the way off, but went to no_hz_idle instead of no_hz_full
[10:40:42] <mozmck> I could not tell if that made much difference.
[10:41:16] <mozmck> I see some traffic on the rt list about that now - they might be fixing it sounds like.
[10:43:33] <pcw_home> Yeah I had some problem with my desktop at home crashing so I played around with a lot of stuff including no_hz
[10:43:34] <pcw_home> but I think it was bad hardware (I replaced it with the DC7800 and all is well)
[10:44:12] <pcw_home> plus the DC7800 is quieter than my old box
[10:45:03] <mozmck> not bad for $39
[10:45:12] <mozmck> cheaper than a beagleboard!
[10:45:22] <mozmck> or bone
[10:45:27] <pcw_home> not at all (or $49 with a e8400)
[10:46:15] <pcw_home> and ~10 times as fast :-) at 10 times the power :-(
[10:47:05] <mozmck> yeah, but the power isn't much issue for a cnc machine
[10:50:37] <pcw_home> The g3258 is lower power than the e8500 and about 2x as fast so for a current CPU fast linuxcnc host its the best Ive seen so far
[10:51:56] <pcw_home> (probably currents I3s,I5s,I7s are even better but I draw the line at > $100 for a CPU)
[10:52:16] <pcw_home> s /currents/current/
[10:52:48] <mozmck> yeah. I use AMD for my desktop generally because the price/performance ratio is so much better.
[10:53:08] <mozmck> 8 core CPU at 4Ghz is $149
[10:53:51] <mozmck> an equivalent Intel CPU starts at $300
[10:54:03] <pcw_home> I dont have any current AMD CPUs to try
[10:54:18] <skunkworks> zlog
[10:55:25] <mozmck> I need to set up my 6-core AMD and test with it.
[10:56:16] <pcw_home> I think the last i tested was a A4-5000
[10:56:38] <pcw_home> (low power Fusion APU)
[10:56:48] <mozmck> how was it?
[10:57:05] <pcw_home> those are pretty comparable to the J1800/1900 Intel CPUs
[10:57:32] <JT-Shop> 2.7p6 YEA!
[10:57:35] <pcw_home> decent latency, maybe 2x as fast as the old Atom D525s
[10:57:46] <mozmck> not bad then
[10:58:47] <pcw_home> no they are fine for passive cooled say 1, 2 Khz servo thread systems
[11:02:28] <mozmck> Hmm, sometime I should add to the documentation for the few features I've added.
[11:02:52] <mozmck> HALIO buttons, etc.
[15:04:09] <Tom_itx> JT-Shop, where's that?
[15:08:49] <Tom_itx> oh i see...
[17:40:23] <seb_kuzminsky> i'm uploading 2.7.0~pre6 to wlo now, announcement to come tonight
[18:12:29] <cradek> sweet
