03:53 AM rifraf: this vacuum chamber really does have a 3/4" tempered glass lid with hole, arrived today, no pump yet to test though
04:40 AM Tom_L: rue_mohr, what's wrong with these pics? http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/Rpi5/SP1.jpg

04:41 AM Tom_L: 3 & 4 are both bursts of 2
04:41 AM Tom_L: right and left
07:18 AM rifraf: yay oven currently at 505°C and stil increasing, about to put some ally in
08:00 AM rifraf: safe? pics of powerpoint https://desire3d.com/images/public/kiln/outlet-real.jpg https://desire3d.com/images/public/kiln/outlet-thermal.jpg
08:01 AM rifraf: at 540C now
08:02 AM rifraf: some ally inside for a melt test for the heck of it, better than sniffing melted resin
08:03 AM rifraf: might cost a bit in power but still way cheaper than a hooker on a friday night, havin fun
08:10 AM Tom_L: go for the high dollar ones ehh?
08:12 AM rifraf: well the goin rate in this town not bad for quality
08:15 AM rifraf: QLD is pretty good place if you need to get some action
08:15 AM Tom_L: no buck tooth sally ehh
08:16 AM rifraf: never, you get to look before you try
08:17 AM rifraf: but i digress
08:17 AM Tom_L: liquor makes em all look great
08:17 AM rifraf: oven at 560C, ally should be starting to tremble
08:18 AM rifraf: Tom_L not required, want a link?
08:18 AM Tom_L: nope
08:19 AM rifraf: within 100m of work are places, funny how you can have baker, barber and brothel all in a row 1 minute from work, seriously
08:20 AM rifraf: will get a pic for you, so funny
08:23 AM rifraf: 1040F and counting
08:24 AM rifraf: farenheit does not seem so different at these temps
08:25 AM rifraf: (560 * 9/5) + 32 - 1040, weird
08:25 AM rifraf: =
08:26 AM rifraf: starting to slow down i think, 565C now
08:27 AM rifraf: need another 70C to melt the ally
08:27 AM rifraf: doable i reckon
08:28 AM rifraf: then i will be melting bucket fulls, i need to make some 40mm thick plates for the extruder
08:28 AM rifraf: how nice would it be to just cast in an oven
08:34 AM rifraf: 575C
08:35 AM rifraf: am so happy with this buy
08:36 AM rifraf: Tom_L vacuum chambe arrived today as well, way better than the tiny thing you get with the basic cating gear
08:36 AM rifraf: really is way bigger than a 1 gallon tank, and does have a 3/4" temper glass lid
08:37 AM rifraf: the vacuum gauge has a big bubble in it, but looks like you can top it up
08:38 AM Tom_L: is it oil filled?
08:38 AM Tom_L: that's on purpose if it is
08:39 AM rifraf: yes
08:40 AM rifraf: and a plug on top, will fill it up when i know what oil to use, am sure the 3in1 should work
08:41 AM Tom_L: glycerin or silicone oil
08:41 AM rifraf: i feel sorry for the people buying the $2500 casting systems
08:41 AM rifraf: ok thanks
08:41 AM Tom_L: glycerin is the most common
08:41 AM Tom_L: pharmacy has that
08:41 AM rifraf: so far am way under my bugget and getting gear that can do way more
08:41 AM Tom_L: it could be silicone since it's in a hi temp area
08:42 AM rifraf: the difference between i want one of these things and lets find out how these things work and do it better
08:43 AM rifraf: vacuum setup not designed for high temps, just a stainless pot with a thick ass lid
08:43 AM Tom_L: it will likely be one of the two
08:43 AM Tom_L: glycerin the more common
08:44 AM rifraf: the temps should be ok, not like its gonna be drawing a tonne of air, and if so who cares, the price was right
08:44 AM rifraf: never seen a vacuum pump yet that says its designed for high temps, they all just suck
08:45 AM rifraf: this weekend no playtime anyway, seeing ex tomoorow and spending sunday with grandson, very wholesome
08:46 AM rifraf: should have little kiln and vacuum pump by next weekend, and will have a decent oven ready to do shit
08:47 AM Tom_L: what are you planning to cast?
08:47 AM rifraf: 587C , 1088F
08:48 AM rifraf: brass and bronze parts for the spinning top cradle
08:48 AM rifraf: and if that works will try some jewellry maybe
08:49 AM rifraf: sterling silver would be next for the high end top spinners :)
08:50 AM rifraf: would like to remelt failed tops into shapes i can machine easy without wasting lots of metals, try some big tops etc
08:50 AM Tom_L: you sellin em yet?
08:51 AM rifraf: a few here and there, has paid for cnc machine so far
08:52 AM rifraf: soon gonna get some god exposure around the globe
08:52 AM rifraf: good*
09:39 AM rifraf: 635C :)
09:58 AM rifraf: 652C, when do we stop
10:13 AM rifraf: rue_mohr
10:13 AM rifraf: oven at 663C
10:13 AM rifraf: you think ally will be melted?
10:25 AM rifraf: i did
10:34 AM rifraf: https://desire3d.com/images/public/kiln/win.jpg
10:41 AM rifraf: we started with this a few hours ago https://desire3d.com/images/public/kiln/ally-in.jpg
11:06 AM rifraf: so happy i can sleep well
11:25 AM aandrew: how many kWh did it take to get the alloy melted from ambient?
11:26 AM rifraf: 5 hours at 2.5kw
11:26 AM rifraf: cost about $5 in electricity
11:26 AM rifraf: less than the price of a beer, of which i consumed 12 in the process
11:27 AM rifraf: have some nice ingots now, was just a test, could have had a few kg of metal in there and would of melted just the same
11:28 AM rifraf: wadidn't buy to melt metal, just chucked that in at the temp was suitable
11:28 AM rifraf: \sorry is late and did reallt have the 12 beersm + the rest of the tequila
11:29 AM rifraf: oh wait
11:29 AM rifraf: i had one shot left, not bedtime :)
11:29 AM rifraf: now@
11:30 AM aandrew: 12.5kWh, you're paying around $0.40/kWh?
11:30 AM rifraf: great test though, with a 20A outlet this thing will work twice as fast
11:30 AM rifraf: 33.5C / kwh
11:30 AM aandrew: nice
11:31 AM aandrew: I should try to figure out my costs, they make it really difficult to get a straight answer with all the transport and recovery and other bullshit charges
11:31 AM aandrew: if they normalized everything to /kWh and then added on the monthly (not use-based) charges separately it'd be a little easier
11:31 AM rifraf: i have done alot of melting with waste oil and gas , this was way more effective and cheaper
11:32 AM rifraf: once i am at the 660C it holds temp very well, so could probably melt a few kg per hour
11:32 AM rifraf: \is still on 630C now after being off over an hour
11:33 AM rifraf: yes we pay most of the bill on availability, so half the bill is just to be able to use power. so stupid
11:33 AM rifraf: and tonight i used a few $ worth, totally worth it
11:35 AM rifraf: gonna see if my bro can wire me a safe 30A outlet (registered sparky) and then can do this outside and be melting again, but main purpose for the oven is castable resin burnout, which will be a no brainer now
11:35 AM rifraf: this was in 10.8A
11:36 AM rifraf: oven will work best with all coils in parallel for a 21A draw at 240V
12:43 PM aandrew: https://ibb.co/FqHfjynz
12:43 PM aandrew: when you just can't find the adapters you need, you end up with this insult to plumbing
12:44 PM aandrew: all this for max 80psi water... thing could probably hold back a several hundred psi without any trouble, assuming my threads are sealed correctly
04:07 PM aandrew: boo, digikey's shipping to canada used to be overnight but now it's 3 days. same FedEx International Priority shipping option, still free for CAD$100 orders
