12:00 AM rifraf: happy easter
12:14 AM Tom_L: yeah, happy easter
12:52 AM rue_mohr: yard cleanup
12:52 AM rue_mohr: mmm
12:52 AM rue_mohr: tomorrow
12:52 AM rue_mohr: -----
12:53 AM rue_mohr: I'm too tired to figure it out
12:54 AM rue_mohr: have to fix smelting pot
01:07 AM rue_mohr: I asked chatgpt about using graphite powder for seperating molds, becasue I was worried about the carbon reacting with the aluminum. I was pretty sure they ate each other, but it says I'm fine below 1000c, more importantly, it pointed out the existance of graphite smelting pots, so yea, that works
01:07 AM rue_mohr: onyl cause I cant find the humans
04:26 AM Tom_L: i showed you graphite smelting pots a long time ago
04:29 AM Tom_L: https://www.amazon.com/ProCast-Graphite-Crucibles-Refining-Aluminum/dp/B018ZM58MO
10:57 AM polprog: https://pleroma.m68k.church/notice/AtHq2tSwiwv85qfsLw
10:57 AM polprog: the radishes started to sprout
11:07 AM Tom_L: garden?
11:43 AM polprog: balcony
12:13 PM rue_mohr: yea
12:13 PM rue_mohr: their expensive, I tried to win an amazon gift card for one, didn't get it
12:14 PM rue_mohr: but the important bit is, I think I can use graphite powder for the seperating stuff
12:14 PM Tom_L: they wouldn't burn out though like yours
12:14 PM rue_mohr: polprog, it wont come up on my older browser :(
12:14 PM Tom_L: it's really messy
12:15 PM rue_mohr: yea, it would be
12:15 PM polprog: rue_mohr: oh shit
12:15 PM Tom_L: i used to have a can of it
12:15 PM polprog: imgbb works for you?
12:15 PM rue_mohr: comes up in chromium ok
12:15 PM polprog: oh neat
12:15 PM polprog: yeah, i got some white radish, german kind and japanese kind
12:16 PM rue_mohr: my carrots are just a bit ahead of your radishes there
12:16 PM polprog: last week we had snowfall, so i was reluctant with planting
12:16 PM polprog: how do your carrots look like?
12:16 PM rue_mohr: 1 sec
12:17 PM rue_mohr: hi or low rez?
12:17 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1340213.jpg
12:17 PM rue_mohr: that was about a week ago
12:18 PM polprog: oh yeah, they are sprouting nicely
12:18 PM rue_mohr: they look the same, just a bit larger
12:18 PM rue_mohr: is https://pleroma.m68k.church/notice/AtHq2tSwiwv85qfsLw mastadon?
12:19 PM polprog: yeah
12:19 PM polprog: pleroma frontend, but its like mastodon
12:19 PM rue_mohr: ok
12:19 PM rue_mohr: mastadon by data? :]
12:19 PM polprog: mastodon is just a frontend too
12:19 PM rue_mohr: yea, ok, some of these posts are familiar
12:19 PM polprog: the protocol is activitypub
12:20 PM rue_mohr: ah!
12:20 PM polprog: if you visit your server you should see it because you follow me
12:20 PM rue_mohr: I recall the 'pet the cat' post
12:21 PM polprog: yeah
12:21 PM polprog: little guy would not let me go
12:22 PM polprog: bbl, making dinner
12:59 PM rue_mohr: https://123smeden.nl/products/talkpoeder-500g
12:59 PM rue_mohr: nin skekizy deutch.
01:00 PM rue_mohr: polprog, do you do german?
01:00 PM rue_mohr: I think thats about $22 cad
01:04 PM polprog: thats talcum powder
01:04 PM polprog: its dutch
01:04 PM rue_mohr: yea
01:04 PM rue_mohr: wondering if they would ship to canada...
01:06 PM polprog: cant get talcum powder in ca?
01:06 PM rue_mohr: nope, banned
01:06 PM polprog: ouch
01:06 PM rue_mohr: possible asbestos content
01:07 PM polprog: well we should get the travelling hacker box running
01:07 PM polprog: asbestos??
01:07 PM rue_mohr: so, in 2022, I bought 454g for $27
01:07 PM rue_mohr: as tire talc
01:08 PM Tom_L: i've heard that as well
01:08 PM rue_mohr: there was ONE canadian mine that had some contamination
01:09 PM Tom_L: one usually ruins things for the rest though ehh?
01:09 PM rue_mohr: yup, just takes one guy
01:09 PM rue_mohr: er thing
01:11 PM Tom_L: been raining all day so far
01:11 PM rue_mohr: so, $27 lasted me 3 years,
01:11 PM rue_mohr: $9/year
01:11 PM rue_mohr: twice as much is $44
01:12 PM rue_mohr: $7/year
01:12 PM rue_mohr: ok, bought 1kg off amazon
01:12 PM rue_mohr: why I CAN get it, I dont know
01:18 PM rue_mohr: ok, internet posts caught up, shower, breakfast and...
01:26 PM Tom_L: and... make a top
01:26 PM Tom_L: :)
01:52 PM rue_mohr: at what point does a bike go from being a bike to being bike parts....
01:53 PM rue_mohr: its sunny out today
01:53 PM Tom_L: perspective
01:53 PM rue_mohr: I expected rain
01:53 PM Tom_L: one man's junk is another's treasure
02:22 PM rue_mohr: so yea, I have '
02:22 PM rue_mohr: so yea, I have 'make a top' on the list of indoor things
02:25 PM Tom_L: i have some dimensions that work pretty good
02:25 PM rue_mohr: https://x.com/LongTimeHistory/status/1913648543278972957
02:26 PM rue_mohr: I think these are just radom people who want to go on a kill masquerading as ice
02:27 PM Tom_L: if they are here illegally i don't feel sorry for them. no free ride in life
02:27 PM Tom_L: i pay for them to be here and they are taking jobs away from us
02:28 PM rue_mohr: some of the people being deperted arent
02:28 PM rue_mohr: and admit it, nobody wants those jobs
02:28 PM Tom_L: the media loves to sugarcoat things to get a story
02:29 PM rue_mohr: flip burgers for $15/hr on a 2hr/week shift
02:29 PM Tom_L: you mean while i'm subsidising their income?
02:30 PM rue_mohr: There is a gap
02:30 PM rue_mohr: there are a lot of gaps
02:31 PM rue_mohr: its been said the new person in charge of healthcare says "people who keep themselves healthy dont need a medical system, the rest can pay"
02:31 PM Tom_L: my health ins is shit
02:31 PM Tom_L: i can't afford good ins
02:32 PM Tom_L: at one point i was paying over 2k/mo for 'good' ins
02:32 PM Tom_L: the health system needs an overhaul as well
02:33 PM rue_mohr: I'd be curious to know what the impact on schools has been after the dept. of education was dismantled.
02:33 PM Tom_L: enrollment has dropped over 50%
02:33 PM Tom_L: most are homeschooling now
02:34 PM rue_mohr: interesting
02:34 PM rue_mohr: so the high point of technology in 20 years will be making soap
02:36 PM rue_mohr: well, I'm quite sure it will be replay of germany
02:36 PM rue_mohr: no idea of who will come break it up
02:43 PM Tom_L: so not only do we get taxed for public education we have to pay for the homeschooling curriculums on top
02:44 PM Tom_L: and public education is shit here
02:55 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, here are my top dimensions: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/rifraf/Top_dimensions.jpg
02:55 PM Tom_L: the ring height wasn't supposed to be that much, maybe closer to 8mm
02:55 PM Tom_L: would probably work better
02:56 PM rifraf: nice calculator, have you been able to weight it to confirm?
02:56 PM Tom_L: no scale that small
02:57 PM Tom_L: 8mm body would give it a 59.84 G mass
02:57 PM Tom_L: rif you said around 40 was ideal?
02:58 PM rifraf: yeah in the 50s is good place for bigger tops, 40 much easier to spin though
02:58 PM Tom_L: 6mm thickness would be 47.67G
02:58 PM rifraf: tom we have new graphing today, smoother graphs and rpm display
02:58 PM Tom_L: same link?
02:59 PM rifraf: have not uploaded
02:59 PM Tom_L: then it's not we. it's you :)
02:59 PM rifraf: ok, need to test again and will make apk
02:59 PM Tom_L: fix the docs so they all fit?
02:59 PM Tom_L: iirc that was on the s25?
03:00 PM rifraf: no ? but you can try
03:00 PM Tom_L: i _did_ put in an ECO for that....
03:01 PM rifraf: my designer is away for easter break
03:02 PM Tom_L: pay him overtime
03:04 PM Tom_L: did you get the automatic chuck etc online yet?
03:04 PM Tom_L: you got backorders to fill....
03:04 PM rue_shop4: well, if laying in the yard in the sun was on the todo list, I've really nailed it
03:05 PM Tom_L: passed out drunk or sunbathing?
03:07 PM rue_shop4: I wonder if US farms usually hire mexican workers to pick crops...
03:08 PM rue_shop4: I was surprised when I learned our farms up here do that
03:08 PM Tom_L: i forget what country they come from but i know some farmers that hire foreigners on a state or federal work program to come in and work the fields
03:08 PM rue_shop4: but nobody wants part time work at a farm picking crops
03:08 PM Tom_L: they give them room & board, transportation and a wage
03:08 PM rue_shop4: yea, so, likley that wont happen this year
03:08 PM rue_shop4: I wonder who will do the work
03:08 PM Tom_L: they are eager to do it
03:09 PM rue_shop4: maybe they will get prisoners or something to do it
03:09 PM Tom_L: these are young hard working foreigners
03:09 PM rue_shop4: with whats going on in the states, nobody will go into the states to do it
03:09 PM rifraf: tom updated apk, still 0.3, need link?
03:09 PM Tom_L: if they don't cut it, they'er sent back and replaced
03:09 PM Tom_L: rif no
03:10 PM Tom_L: rue_shop4, so it works out good for them and the farmers
03:10 PM Tom_L: we're talking thousands of acres
03:14 PM Tom_L: The H-2A program helps address temporary or seasonal agricultural labor shortages by allowing employers to bring foreign workers into the U.S. to perform specific agricultural tasks
03:14 PM Tom_L: The program benefits both U.S. farmers who need labor and foreign workers seeking employment opportunities in agriculture
03:15 PM Tom_L: i forget what country they were getting them from but it wasn't Mexico
03:15 PM rue_shop4: Tom_L, I doubt they will even come in this year in the first place
03:16 PM Tom_L: it's a great opportunity for them. they want to come
03:16 PM rue_shop4: and get deported?
03:16 PM rue_shop4: thats if the program doesn't even get cut
03:16 PM Tom_L: not everything is as grim as you portray
03:16 PM rue_shop4: your paying to have them take your jobs
03:16 PM rue_shop4: mmm
03:17 PM Tom_L: these are very rural areas where your neighbor is 3-5 miles away
03:17 PM rue_shop4: yup
03:17 PM rue_shop4: but their taking your jobs
03:17 PM rue_shop4: same as the other immigrants
03:17 PM Tom_L: but they are doing it leagally
03:17 PM rue_shop4: your paying for them to live, out of your pocket
03:18 PM Tom_L: and getting fair compensation
03:18 PM rue_shop4: so are lots of the people who been deported
03:18 PM rue_shop4: mhm
03:18 PM Tom_L: so we can continue to feed the world
03:18 PM Tom_L: like we have been for years
03:18 PM rue_shop4: heh, I think that buck stopped
03:18 PM rue_shop4: most countries have stopped buying US goods
03:18 PM rue_shop4: for lots of reasons
03:18 PM Tom_L: i don't know that
03:19 PM rue_shop4: now countries are starting to dump the usd
03:19 PM Tom_L: i can read the bias news but don't
03:19 PM rue_shop4: none of the grocery stores here have been able to sell US goods, their starting to find alternatives
03:19 PM Tom_L: you were up in a huff about SS and i
03:19 PM Tom_L: 'm still getting it
03:19 PM rue_shop4: this is an intersting picture to me
03:24 PM Tom_L: i know since 2024 i've been busier than i care to be and prior to that there were days i had nothing to do
03:24 PM Tom_L: so for me it's a win
03:29 PM rue_shop4: he said he would make the economy go boom!
03:29 PM Tom_L: seems like it is for me
03:29 PM Tom_L: rifraf, the lower right stat on the main page isn't visible
03:30 PM rifraf: the angled texts?
03:30 PM Tom_L: yes
03:30 PM Tom_L: and
03:30 PM Tom_L: anything below the buttons below 'Graph RPM Settings' isn't visible
03:30 PM rifraf: k, just some muckin about, no real numbers yet, but may as well use what gets put in settings
03:30 PM rue_shop4: I need to gather all the solder drips from my bench and cast them into one chunk
03:30 PM Tom_L: i can see ^^ that line but nothing below
03:31 PM rifraf: those are still old buttons that you could never see because of your screen, still need to remove
03:31 PM Tom_L: screen may be getting too busy
03:32 PM Tom_L: i can see the start reset and quit just fine
03:32 PM rifraf: yep, might just use icons instead of text
03:33 PM rifraf: don't want button in center of app for obvious reasons, so you can move top around and stay in app
03:33 PM Tom_L: maybe a separate page for static data?
03:33 PM Tom_L: and keep the dynamic on that screen
03:34 PM Tom_L: the previous one was pretty good
03:34 PM Tom_L: the top line is great now
03:34 PM rue_shop4: hah, they used safety torque on this medical machine, that wont stop mE!
03:35 PM rifraf: want to be able to save data too, so you can save best spins with the data set for regraphing
03:36 PM rifraf: Tom_L got any beyblades?
03:36 PM Tom_L: nope
03:37 PM rifraf: notice the graph changes?
03:37 PM Tom_L: physics page can't see the bottom
03:38 PM Tom_L: same with energy
03:38 PM Tom_L: about is good
03:38 PM rifraf: hrm ok, odd, but will be a reason
03:38 PM Tom_L: haven't gotten to that yet
04:26 PM rue_mohr: ok, 10 posts/day
04:26 PM rue_mohr: cmon rue
04:49 PM Tom_L: so if i ever do another top it will have to be done on the mill
04:49 PM Tom_L: the lathe is just too far gone
04:49 PM Tom_L: i might put the rotary on the mill and see what happens
04:50 PM Tom_L: cause that's gonna be my best bet
04:57 PM rue_shop4: turn it on the mill with a statically mounted lathe bit
04:57 PM Tom_L: no way to hold the material that size
04:59 PM rue_shop4: cmon, I know you can think out of the box
04:59 PM rue_shop4: I need to turn 30mm material and my lathe can only hold 15mm
05:00 PM rue_shop4: I need to turn 30mm material and my lathe can only hold 12.54mm
05:03 PM rue_shop4: wtf, why, if everyting is 3.3V, dont I have a heap of 3.3v regulators everywerhe
05:06 PM * Tom_L gives up on that project
05:07 PM rue_shop4: 78L33 dropout is 1.7
05:08 PM rue_shop4: which IS the difference of 5V
05:08 PM rue_shop4: hmm
05:08 PM rue_shop4: need LDO
05:10 PM Tom_L: LE33CZ-TR
05:10 PM Tom_L: LM3480IM3-3.3
05:10 PM Tom_L: TPS79333DBVR
05:11 PM rue_shop4: thanks, but I need to already have it
05:11 PM rue_shop4: whats the part number with a marking code 4J :]
05:11 PM Tom_L: you couldn't have checked that quick!
05:11 PM rue_shop4: I have to work backwards
05:15 PM rue_shop4: not finding any LDO with that
05:17 PM rue_shop4: I have some AMS1117-3.3
05:18 PM rue_shop4: oh its apparently low droout
05:18 PM rue_shop4: its funny, old boards never seemed to put their regulators on the main board, and now everyone does it
05:18 PM rue_shop4: ok, I have two
05:58 PM rue_shop4: I wonder at what point our countries decided that harvesting crops was not worth out time and basically exported it
05:58 PM rue_shop4: tho, maybe it never did
05:58 PM rue_shop4: maybe it just moved from slaves to 'underpaid' immigrants
05:59 PM rue_shop4: I'm pretty sure in ancient egypt farm cropping was a required social service
06:00 PM rue_shop4: the answer might lay in pre-slavery england?
06:07 PM rue_shop4: I wonder if I should just run the remote on 3.3
06:07 PM rue_shop4: save myself a bunch of trouble
06:08 PM rue_shop4: if I'm running a li-ion, its easier anyhow
06:08 PM rue_shop4: wait
06:08 PM rue_shop4: whats the dropout
06:08 PM rue_shop4: 1.2V
06:08 PM rue_shop4: ugh
06:08 PM rue_shop4: thats really not a lot better
06:09 PM rue_shop4: ugh, I'v got a radio onboard, I dont want a switching supply
06:09 PM rue_shop4: think
06:27 PM rifraf: tom, i got rid of the flashing circle, want update?
06:30 PM rifraf: same 0.3 link updated
06:46 PM rue_shop4: - make wooden boxes
06:46 PM rue_shop4: oh, I was supposed to work out a power supply for the remote
06:46 PM rue_shop4: draw
06:46 PM rue_shop4: drat
07:18 PM Tom_L: rifraf, sure
07:21 PM rifraf: i thnk i like this effect better
07:21 PM rifraf: still refining
07:22 PM Tom_L: on physics & energy if you just add a cr i think that would fix the readability of it
07:23 PM Tom_L: whatever is below 'Graph RPM Settings' i still can't see
07:23 PM rifraf: ok forgot about that, will try now
07:25 PM Tom_L: plot looks smoother
07:30 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/rifraf/S25_Screen2.jpg
07:30 PM Tom_L: main page alignment on S25
07:43 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/rifraf/S25_test4.jpg
07:43 PM Tom_L: looks alot different now
07:43 PM Tom_L: what's the background plot about?
07:45 PM rifraf: thin line is actuall, what used to be blue, and thick line is smoothed
07:46 PM rifraf: you werent spinning a top that whole time were you?
07:46 PM Tom_L: yup
07:47 PM rifraf: didn't look like it capured it veru well
07:47 PM rue_mohr: put a tiny little bit of tape on one side of your top and it'll read really well :]
07:49 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/rifraf/S25_test5.jpg
07:49 PM Tom_L: sitting on the phone glass
07:49 PM Tom_L: both of those
07:51 PM Tom_L: not having much luck on the cup
07:51 PM Tom_L: glass will arrive tues i think
07:52 PM Tom_L: was gonna try to thin the mass some but the lathe is too far gone
07:52 PM Tom_L: tried cutting on some scrap first so i wouldn't mess up the top
07:53 PM rifraf: nah, i'll show you what that graph should look like now, just a min
07:53 PM Tom_L: should be alot smoother i know
07:53 PM rifraf: did you see the splash screen on the app, made that for you
07:53 PM Tom_L: yea
07:53 PM Tom_L: :)
07:54 PM Tom_L: what's the flashing screen about now?
07:54 PM Tom_L: instead of the circle?
07:54 PM rifraf: its cooler
07:54 PM Tom_L: that first run ^^ was a record here
07:54 PM rifraf: over 4 minutes?
07:55 PM Tom_L: yep
07:55 PM rifraf: cool :)
07:55 PM Tom_L: figured the graph would be smoother though
07:56 PM Tom_L: not bad for a crappy top
07:56 PM rifraf: very good
07:57 PM rifraf: now you just gotta crack 5 minutes
07:57 PM Tom_L: does that win me the lotto?
07:57 PM rifraf: when you get a smooth graph the dots and spirals are cool
07:57 PM Tom_L: the glass will likely help
07:58 PM rifraf: yep for sure
08:09 PM rue_mohr: geez, I asked chatgpt for a diagram and ... it mostly got it right....
08:10 PM Tom_L: wouldn't be very good AI if it didn't
08:19 PM rue_mohr: oh its not!
08:19 PM rue_mohr: https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005004891495966.html
08:20 PM Tom_L: rifraf, so close: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/rifraf/S25_test6.jpg
