07:51 AM rue_mohr: ugh, nothing good on the internet
08:08 AM rue_mohr: I need to post more
08:08 AM rue_mohr: so much work
02:52 PM rifraf: rue_mohr you here or working?
03:50 PM rifraf: someone please, does this link give you a listing of pdf files and can you view them? https://desire3d.com/PDF/
03:52 PM Tom_L: yup and yup
03:53 PM rifraf: cool thanks
03:53 PM Tom_L: is that your own site?
03:53 PM rifraf: yeah
03:53 PM Tom_L: hosted or your own webserver?
03:53 PM rifraf: trying to get all manuals for my cnc in one place
03:54 PM rifraf: hosted
03:54 PM Tom_L: i pulled an old pc from a trash can and it's been my server for a very long time now
03:54 PM Tom_L: still hasn't died
03:55 PM rifraf: and also want index file for my public images folder to be able to browse, just testing python script
03:55 PM Tom_L: rue did that
03:58 PM Tom_L: he ahd pol did something with pdf search lately too
03:58 PM Tom_L: i think it was those two anyway
03:58 PM Tom_L: http://ruemohr.org/%7Eircjunk/tempimage/
03:58 PM rifraf: https://github.com/glowinthedark/index-html-generator/
03:58 PM Tom_L: there's a script there
03:59 PM rifraf: that link is a pretty comprehensive script
03:59 PM Tom_L: nice
04:00 PM Tom_L: looks like you used it for the pdfs
04:00 PM rifraf: yep
04:01 PM rifraf: but used it locally, then uploaded it, not sure how to run python on actual server
04:02 PM rifraf: thats why need test to be sure was referencing properly
04:02 PM rifraf: whereas you could run it recursively on your whole site if you wanted
04:02 PM Tom_L: nohup python3 yourfancy.py file
04:03 PM Tom_L: i also have my bot in a cron job on a reboot
04:04 PM Tom_L: my actual command is: nohup mylogger.py &
04:04 PM Tom_L: forgot what the & did
04:04 PM Tom_L: it might be different on a host
04:05 PM rifraf: obviously
04:05 PM rifraf: if they allowed scripts all sorts of hell could break loose
04:05 PM rifraf: remember i hosted my own sites 30 years ago :P
04:05 PM Tom_L: makes posting stuff alot easier
04:06 PM rifraf: ftp is not too hard
04:07 PM rifraf: using winscp, not hard to sync folders etc
04:08 PM rifraf: i want ecommerce to function properly soon, much easier with a host
04:09 PM rifraf: ok need to work out if this needs pullup resistor for inputs https://desire3d.com/PDF/T3a_T3L_V3.2%20-%20AC%20Servo%20Driver%20Manual.pdf
04:10 PM Tom_L: i use winscp or map the drive in linux
04:10 PM Tom_L: then it's really easy
04:11 PM rifraf: you have ecommerce with payments etc on your site?
04:12 PM Tom_L: no
04:12 PM rifraf: indeed
04:12 PM Tom_L: i did some stuff but don't remember how i handled it all
04:12 PM rifraf: thats why i am using hosted site
04:12 PM Tom_L: talk to jt-shop in linuxcnc or if you don't want all the traffic in #flex-dev
04:13 PM rifraf: and paying too much for years and never used, this year that must change
04:13 PM Tom_L: https://mesaus.com/
04:13 PM Tom_L: that's his
04:13 PM rifraf: yep i remember
04:13 PM rifraf: ok need to work out if this needs pullup resistor for inputs https://desire3d.com/PDF/T3a_T3L_V3.2%20-%20AC%20Servo%20Driver%20Manual.pdf
04:14 PM Tom_L: won't hurt anything if you add them anyway i would think
04:14 PM rifraf: well i have some strange wiring issues and motors playing up
04:14 PM rifraf: want to know exactly for each motor
04:14 PM Tom_L: ground loop issues?
04:14 PM Tom_L: star ground
04:14 PM Tom_L: win win
04:15 PM Tom_L: shielded cables another win
04:15 PM rifraf: VFD as well, but vfd seems ok, the AC servo is the current issue
04:15 PM Tom_L: my cabinet looks like crap but runs rock solid following those rules
04:15 PM rifraf: you are using steppers, they are much simpler
04:16 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/rue/Control2.jpg
04:16 PM Tom_L: right
04:16 PM Tom_L: the caps & transformers were surplus
04:17 PM rifraf: yes yes, i want someone please to see if that manual makes sense for the input requirements for the AC servo driver
04:17 PM Tom_L: i'm gettin ready to walk out the door or i'd look
04:17 PM Tom_L: not that i know much about servos
04:18 PM rifraf: is more about understanding the electronics and manual instructions
04:19 PM Tom_L: 8 talks about noise
04:20 PM rifraf: only talking about inputs
04:21 PM Tom_L: CN1
04:21 PM Tom_L: gotta run...
04:22 PM rifraf: cya
04:24 PM rifraf: https://desire3d.com/images/public/ServoInputs.JPG
04:24 PM rifraf: controller outputs https://desire3d.com/images/public/output.jpg
04:26 PM rifraf: looks like servo has internal pullup but i need to increase the output voltage to 12-24V for it to work ?
04:27 PM rifraf: maybe need to use one of the spare fets, the fet drivers inputs are good with a 1k R to 5V to drive the mosfet
04:27 PM rifraf: ok, gonna go paint the fence till you get home rue_mohr
04:28 PM rifraf: and then going for looong drive
04:50 PM Tom_L: most industrial controls use 24v
05:17 PM polprog: :/
05:17 PM polprog: soldering iron dead
05:17 PM polprog: 10 years in service
05:38 PM rifraf: mine uses 5V and 12V, still completely irrelevant to the questions with due respect
05:41 PM rifraf: polprog sad, but good news is there are some great ones available at reasonable prices these days, i still have the jaycar models that have also done 10 + years service, but AU only shop
05:42 PM rifraf: 1/2 the fence painted, back when its done
05:45 PM polprog: rifraf: i bought a similar one, compatible tips and handpiece (idk the name)
05:45 PM polprog: $20
05:45 PM polprog: it will be on tuesday
05:46 PM polprog: upgrade, because the new one will have a dial instead of the buttons
05:59 PM polprog: night
06:07 PM rifraf: https://www.jaycar.com.au/48w-temperature-controlled-soldering-station/p/TS1564 i use little station like this https://www.jaycar.com.au/48w-temperature-controlled-soldering-station/p/TS1564
06:08 PM rifraf: not as cheap as i thought, guess prices change in 12 years, the model is a bit different as well
06:08 PM rifraf: mine also has a temp gauge
06:09 PM rifraf: lol the one i am using now is from dick smith electronics, they shut down at least 10 years ago, so this one from 2000 or earlier
06:09 PM rifraf: but also have the duratech
06:10 PM rifraf: budget one but also looks budget https://www.jaycar.com.au/duratech-48w-temperature-controlled-soldering-station/p/TS1620
06:11 PM rifraf: or for real quality a weller https://www.jaycar.com.au/weller-70w-230v-digital-soldering-station/p/TS1806
06:29 PM rue_mohr: rifraf, what?
06:48 PM rifraf: hi
06:49 PM rifraf: inputs https://desire3d.com/images/public/ServoInputs.JPG
06:49 PM rifraf: controller outputs https://desire3d.com/images/public/output.jpg
06:49 PM rifraf: this is the line i hacked with a 12v rail to get going
06:49 PM rifraf: looks like servo has internal pullup but i need to increase the output voltage to 12-24V for it to work ?
06:49 PM rifraf: maybe need to use one of the spare fets, the fet drivers inputs are good with a 1k R to 5V to drive the mosfet
06:50 PM rifraf: that, back soo, still finishing paint, am covered in it
06:50 PM rue_mohr: no, it should work at 5
06:50 PM rue_mohr: the servo has an internal 4.7k series resistor
06:50 PM rifraf: yep
06:50 PM rue_mohr: you do not need to drive it with a fet
06:51 PM rifraf: but my output is not 5V, is logic level remember, i had to add pullups
06:51 PM rifraf: and input wants 12-24
06:51 PM rifraf: ok brb, check the diagrams
06:51 PM rue_mohr: rifraf, your outputs are open collector
06:51 PM rifraf: https://desire3d.com/PDF/
06:51 PM rue_mohr: oh, right there, yea, sure use a pullup to 12V
06:52 PM rue_mohr: well
06:52 PM rue_mohr: what you have is for diagram C1-2
06:52 PM rue_mohr: so you dont need any pullups
06:53 PM rue_mohr: I had a brain mixer of a day
07:24 PM rifraf: hello rue_mohr
07:25 PM rifraf: chores done, i need something , i like the idea of pullup to 12V instead, i reckon that will do the job
07:28 PM rifraf: man holding a paint sprayer for 3 hours not good for my old forearms
07:29 PM rifraf: fences done, now the house looks like an old poo, will have to start doing it next
07:29 PM rifraf: hopefully is weekend for you now, so you can give brain a rest
07:30 PM rifraf: my brain needs a rest, gotta head off soon and head bush
07:38 PM aandrew: heh I had an interesting day -- vmware fusion will not allow you to run x86_64 guests on arm hosts and vice-versa. I installed an arm win11 guest, then loaded altium from 2017 on to the VM... and it worked. perfectly
07:38 PM aandrew: apparently arm win11 has a pretty good x86(_64?) emulator
07:55 PM rifraf: aandrew so you can run autodesk fusion?
07:59 PM aandrew: no, so I can run altium designer
08:01 PM rifraf: cool, never tried it, eagle did what i needed
08:01 PM rifraf: so you do pcb design as well?, may need your help at some point in near future, all paid if you are interested
08:03 PM aandrew: I used Eagle for like 15y, then moved to Altium and have been there until I finally move to KiCad, at which point my EDA tool change days will be over since I hope I'll be dead before kicad becomes irrelevent
08:04 PM aandrew: I do hw, fw, hdl, have a particular aptitude for sensors and somewhat respectable skills at rf
08:05 PM aandrew: before Eagle I was using OrCAD SDT/PCB386+ (dos based), that's actually one of the reasons I liked Eagle so much, it had the same keyboard shortcut focused UX that I loved
08:05 PM aandrew: the fact that eagle was also multiplatform was a huge huge huge plus too
08:10 PM rifraf: yep, i used to like it alot, has been 10 years or more since i needed it so out of practice for sure
08:18 PM aandrew: altium has a decent one too but it took me a while to unlearn my eagle muscle memory, heh
08:21 PM aandrew: there are times when I throw a wrench in the gears of my mind when I'm doing layout because I consciously thought "what's the key sequence?" When you hit that "zen" state you're not actually thinking in commands but more "this is how my hand moves when I want to do this" so suddenly throwing language into the flow jams up the gears
08:24 PM rifraf: yep, very hard for me to focus lately so gonna clear head with big drive, back before monday if car behaves as it normally does, and maybe with a fish or 2
08:25 PM aandrew: nice, I haven't been fishing in over 2 years
08:25 PM rifraf: way too long between casts here as well
08:31 PM rifraf: avagoodweekend cya ron
09:24 PM rue_mohr: mmm
09:25 PM rue_mohr: horrid weather
10:41 PM aandrew: boo rifraf isn't here
10:53 PM rue_mohr: the US constitution has no exit clause
10:53 PM rue_mohr: wtf legal contract has no freaking exit clause
10:55 PM rue_mohr: for that matter, I suspect the canadian constitution doesn't either
10:55 PM rue_mohr: it should
10:55 PM rue_mohr: the federal government of the country should have to be viable for the members
10:57 PM rue_mohr: I'm convinced there will never be another US election
10:58 PM rue_mohr: I guess Rump is starting a war with china because it wants to take tiwian
10:58 PM rue_mohr: both fighting for the semiconductor resources
10:58 PM rue_mohr: (industry)
10:59 PM rue_mohr: china will just come pummle the USA
10:59 PM rue_mohr: esp as they know it has no compitent leader
11:00 PM rue_mohr: Rump really has no idea the amount of dependance his country has on chinas products
11:01 PM rue_mohr: But I know that china has had its eyes on taiwan for a long time, I was worried about what was going on with that during covid
11:05 PM aandrew: to quote Kurt Vonnegut: The world is about as un-shockable as a self-sealing gas tank.
11:05 PM aandrew: I do not believe that the situation is that dire. I don't believe that america will fall, it will survive trump and it will take time to rebuild/repair, but it is not over
11:06 PM aandrew: and why I believe this is from that quote. the media is trying their damnedest to tell us that the world is terrible, that the end is nigh, that no matter what side you're on, everything is the other side's fault
11:07 PM rue_shop3: he will not give up power tho, and he has nobody to stop him from otherwise holding it
11:08 PM rue_shop3: there is effectivly no democracy
11:08 PM rue_shop3: something that I find interesting is that each state has its own constitution
11:08 PM aandrew: he actually does not have the power he thinks he has, but the issue is that nobody in congress really wants to be the first one to oppose him
11:08 PM aandrew: the cracks are appearing
11:09 PM rue_shop3: which makes me wonder, when i heard about 'ammendments' in the news, what level they were
11:09 PM aandrew: I do not for an instant believe the military will follow an order to do something insane
11:10 PM rue_shop3: so, revoking rights on anyone who isn't a white male was not done becasue they were told to?
11:10 PM aandrew: it's my understanding that the way that power operates in the states is very unusual, unique even
11:10 PM rue_shop3: white binary hetrosexual male
11:10 PM aandrew: I said the military, not CBP/ICE. the latter is an entirely different kind of bureaucracy, the kind we know and hate
11:10 PM rue_shop3: did I miss anything?
11:11 PM rue_shop3: I'm on the other side, I think they will do whatever they are told
11:11 PM aandrew: there's a threshold I'd have thought we'd have crossed by now but apparently not, but again largely becuase nobody wants to be the first to stand in opposition
11:11 PM rue_shop3: and if there was resistance, I think people would be replaced till there wasn't
11:11 PM rue_shop3: there isn't
11:12 PM rue_shop3: everyone will just keep rolling over
11:12 PM aandrew: I'm hoping you're wrong, and I know you're also hoping the same
11:12 PM rue_shop3: I'd like to be wrong
11:12 PM rue_shop3: but I dont think I am,
11:12 PM aandrew: yeah
11:12 PM rue_shop3: and if trump does not have a unified country and starts a war-war with china
11:12 PM aandrew: the country is on fire and the old woman brushes her hair.
11:12 PM rue_shop3: while canada is a trade partner with china
11:13 PM rue_shop3: its going to get really abrasive
11:13 PM aandrew: that's how I am staying sane. Not head in the sand but just keeping an eye and worrying about what I can personally control
11:13 PM rue_shop3: esp with canada not supporting Rump due to national threats
11:14 PM aandrew: I am so fucking proud of my country these days, you have no idea
11:14 PM aandrew: calm, measured response which absolutely refuses to get dragged down into the mud
11:14 PM aandrew: a few notable exceptions but overall I mean
11:15 PM aandrew: canadians have an inferiority complex about their economy and gifts/abilities
11:15 PM aandrew: canadians also have a superiority complex about their morality, especially concerning americans
11:16 PM rue_shop3: I'm really interested how the approaches to the tarriffs will play out
11:16 PM rue_shop3: counter tariff vs filing a complaint with trade commision
11:16 PM aandrew: kind of like the little sister who's a little bratty because she knows her parents almost always take her side over her bigger brother
11:17 PM aandrew: personally I feel the US wants to renegotiate they do it through the process outlined in the fucking agreement they decided to ignore
11:17 PM rue_shop3: and continue to, I'm waitng to see what the apr2 tariffs do to the dollar values
11:18 PM rue_shop3: at some point, our industry needs to eat it and our dollar has to go up
11:18 PM aandrew: but even before that there needs to be some kind of actual real ... not apology but some kind of recognition that all this annexation talk and outright disrespect was wrong, an admittance that it isn't a joke and couldn't ever be taken as one, and some kind of olive branch extended
11:18 PM rue_shop3: from Rump, NEVER
11:18 PM rue_shop3: his ego rivals steve jobs
11:18 PM aandrew: and even then, some kind of demonstration that the country can be trusted to honour its agreements. I have no idea how the hell they can do that other than time. trust is not something easily mended
11:19 PM rue_shop3: no, the canadian people will never go back to US products
11:19 PM aandrew: yes, in a litle over a week we will see exactly where things lie
11:19 PM rue_shop3: so, govt can do what it wants, still wont matter
11:20 PM rue_shop3: I would like an alternative to aws...
11:20 PM rue_shop3: :/
11:20 PM aandrew: I'm hopeful there is some kind of mock "victory" the president can show off as a "win" and use that to shut down the biggest part of the insanity
11:20 PM rue_shop3: (which I still dont have working, but they have not charged me anything for it)
11:21 PM aandrew: is there something from azure or google, perhaps a smaller canadian or european cloud provider? I don't play in this space so I don't really know
11:21 PM rue_shop3: aandrew, you know when children are playing a game, and dominant kid is trying to change the rules so they win, even tho they SUCK at the game?
11:21 PM aandrew: yep
11:21 PM aandrew: I was that dominant kid. I know exactly what you're talking about
11:21 PM rue_shop3: and they start making rule execptions like crazy, but still cant win
11:21 PM rue_shop3: then they just declare themselves the winner anyhow?
11:22 PM rue_shop3: well thats the kid Rump is
11:22 PM rue_shop3: so, there will never be a backdown or appology
11:22 PM rue_shop3: hey, you dont know a way to make a proportionate foot pedal, do you?
11:23 PM rue_shop3: I want to make a FPV ROV
11:24 PM aandrew: I know, that's why I'm trying to figure out some way that gives him the win he wants
11:24 PM rue_shop3: he will just declare it
11:24 PM aandrew: the only thing I can think of for foot pedal is to look at modern accelerator pedals in cars
11:24 PM rue_shop3: oh yea
11:24 PM aandrew: at the end of the day it's just a lever on a pot, but the force/resistance is the trick
11:24 PM rue_shop3: maybe thats why I was looking at them from china
11:24 PM rue_shop3: yea I know
11:25 PM rue_shop3: if I saw one I would probably have it printed by tomoroow night
11:25 PM rue_shop3: oh printing, I need to print handles
11:25 PM aandrew: you have that force feedback design, that could be really interesting in terms of dynamic resistance
11:25 PM rue_shop3: :)
11:25 PM rue_shop3: not for a welder
11:25 PM rue_shop3: I have a medical pedal but its the size of a car
11:25 PM rue_shop3: being medical and all
11:26 PM rue_shop3: and its force feedback
11:26 PM rue_shop3: hahaha
11:26 PM rue_shop3: the encoder of the motor IS the position sensor
11:30 PM rue_mohr: oh
11:30 PM rue_mohr: I can just recode this robot for serial control
11:35 PM rue_shop3: geez, its still got a charge and just wroks
11:35 PM rue_shop3: its not ben powered up since 2014
11:36 PM rue_mohr: how the hell does this ALWAYS work
