02:39 AM * rifraf starts to breed up a large colony of drop bears to attack  the crims as they arrive
03:54 AM rifraf: man gonna be not fun trying to get this machine going again, odd wiring issues
05:09 AM polprog: morning
05:17 AM rifraf: evening sir
05:22 AM polprog: i wonder when the second rev of the board will come
05:22 AM polprog: this thing should be able to transmit LW directly
05:22 AM polprog: or generate IF for some other setup..
05:22 AM polprog: i gotta fix the adret RF generator
05:26 AM rifraf: am sure it will come soon and work for you
05:27 AM rifraf: i hope i can fix my machine too, i think need to disconnect 3 motors and get 1 going at a time till they work properly again
05:28 AM rifraf: and make a wiring diagram because i now i forget what i did to make them work, some wires are mixed up somewhere
05:31 AM rifraf: most problems because i did not understand the outputs and pullup resistor setup, have removed most pullup tonight and is bit better, no 0-10v control on the AC servo and the closed loop stepper starts working automaticatly when powering on which is not good, nedd to go back to basic setup on weekend and will solve everything i am pretty sure with
05:31 AM rifraf: some time and concentration
05:35 AM polprog: thanks rifraf
05:38 AM rifraf: polprog i hope soon i can get a few days of work for one of you guys to help redesign a pcb and program for a board that the original maker has passed away, i could do it but would take long time
05:39 AM polprog: if you dont need it right away, im happy to help
05:40 AM rifraf: and could lead to other things, i know even between the few of us in this room there are many skills that could work together, i always wanted us to be a team and make cool stuff
05:40 AM polprog: yeah, that would be pretty cool
05:40 AM polprog: we do that sometimes but in a limited way
05:40 AM rifraf: yep, no time constraints, soon i will get a pcb and more details
05:41 AM rifraf: is to assist disabled people that can only control systems with their chin for example, very cool stuff
05:41 AM polprog: oh that sounds good
05:41 AM polprog: im currently doing a sensor glove to aid design of a prosthetic hand for kids
05:42 AM polprog: noble goals
05:43 AM rifraf: yep, is sad to see some of the tiny automatic chairs and stuff for little kids, am so happy to work in a place that makes a real difference to peoples lives and gives then some freedom
05:44 AM polprog: exactly
05:44 AM polprog: sad to see that most prosthetic hands for kids look like pirate hooks
05:44 AM polprog: because they are small and cheap
05:44 AM rifraf: even though my main focus is making custom seats so that people can just have a proper toilet experience
05:44 AM polprog: we're making one that has real fingers with 3 joints
05:45 AM rifraf: yep, sounds very cool
05:46 AM rifraf: people like elon can afford to make neural systems and mind control things but most people have far more basic needs
05:47 AM polprog: the current problem with prosthetic here is that the healthcare fund refunds up to XYZ kPLN so everybody makes it down to a cost
05:47 AM polprog: including us, but we think we can make something decent thats affordable
05:47 AM rifraf: saw the coolest thing yesterday, a motorised front wheel that attaches to a manual chair so they can drive around at upto 15 km/h
05:48 AM rifraf: sounds like you work in an interesting place as well
05:50 AM rifraf: in AU we have a new healthcare system only a few years old, NDIS,  for the disabled where the government is now putting lots of money into, my boss started the right business, so money is not a big issue, finally have a pretty stress free job after many years
05:51 AM polprog: im doing that one semi-idependently at the uni
05:51 AM polprog: my day job is less interesting.. just programming
05:52 AM rifraf: heh like i said, my day job is making custom commode seats, but alot of room to grow into other areas of the business in time once they see what i can do for them
05:54 AM rifraf: got to make my first solidworks project in 10 years this week, is just a plywood collapsable box to demonstrate a new cushion that maintains constant pressure, boss was very happy with design, current designers had no 3D skills
05:55 AM polprog: oh sounds neat
05:55 AM polprog: i dont have any solidworks experience
05:55 AM polprog: i do my simple 3d models in freecad or openscad
05:56 AM polprog: but they are very simple
05:58 AM rifraf: yep, wats the better freecad alternative based on freecad, i need to try it, my best skills are with solidedge
05:58 AM polprog: i didnt know there was some better fork of freecad
05:59 AM rifraf: yep will try find
06:01 AM rifraf: oh looks like it may be dead already https://ondsel.com/ their may be another
06:04 AM rifraf: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuCWpsLLVU4
06:05 AM rifraf: i wanted to use freecad for its CAM abilitys, but was so many features all in separate workspaces
06:06 AM rifraf: didn't know there was fanially a version 1, will have to download and have a look
06:10 AM rifraf: With FreeCAD 1.0, a new built-in assembly workbench is also included, based on the Ondsel Solver. This workbench allows to define 3D constraints between parts, assemble the different components of a model, and animate everything.
06:11 AM rifraf: sounds more like solidedge etc
06:19 AM polprog: oh ok
06:19 AM polprog: interesting
06:22 AM rifraf: hrm i think i need one of these, should be able to suspend my spinning tops and base https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005008075377276.html
06:23 AM rifraf: says upto 400grams, my setup is only 120 grams, and would fit neatly on a 6 cm disk
06:25 AM rifraf: any thoughts before i say take my money ?
06:25 AM polprog: >this item is not available in your location
06:25 AM polprog: wut
06:25 AM polprog: first time i see this
06:25 AM rifraf: maybe this one? https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005005588319280.html
06:26 AM polprog: oh yea this looks ok
06:27 AM rifraf: i was going to make one, but my time is better spent on CNC stuff, and these look well designed at least, better than the youtubes i been watching
06:27 AM polprog: no point in reinventing the wheel
06:28 AM rifraf: yep, i say its sold, will try that one in the second link
06:42 AM rifraf: dammit, now i want to cancel order, this looks even cooler, https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005008250564171.html
06:43 AM rifraf: but can make my own case for that more raw looking one
06:46 AM rifraf: cancelled order, silly impulse buying after a few beers, but the UFO one does look cooler, a little more cost but better display unit i reckon
06:46 AM polprog: yeah id go witht that raw one
06:46 AM polprog: oh ok
06:46 AM rifraf: lol, i can always rebuy
06:47 AM rifraf: or stay with the raw one that could be hackable, looked like some cool electronics
06:47 AM rifraf: many more ordes on the ufo one though
06:48 AM polprog: i had/have a speaker like that
06:48 AM polprog: bt speaker with a levitating base
06:49 AM rifraf: my spinning top holder is 57mm OD, which could fit on the raw one with a bit of clear plexiglass, but the UFO one has a 65mm platform, pretty perfect size
06:49 AM rifraf: neat, and it levitated well?
06:51 AM rifraf: can just imagine my base spinning with a spinning top spinning on top, would be so cool
06:51 AM rifraf: and with my anto gravity cradle for spinning top should spin for well over an hour
06:51 AM rifraf: anti*
06:53 AM polprog: you're making a spining ufo model?
06:54 AM rifraf: i make some of the best spinning tops, thats why i made the 5 axis cnc machine, to make them better
06:54 AM rifraf: and have made a way to get tops to spin for 1 hour + already
06:55 AM polprog: awesome
06:55 AM rifraf: this would be the ultimate display tool for them
06:55 AM rifraf: without having to have big magnet in the top itself
06:55 AM polprog: very neat
06:56 AM rifraf: yeah i have not really showed anyone yet
06:56 AM polprog: you should
06:56 AM rifraf: by making a 55 gram spinning top weigh 6 -8 grams with the use of a cradle
06:57 AM rifraf: hrm ok them, will make a short video, bit the bot will tell china :(
07:01 AM rifraf: like with my POV led spinner from 20 years ago, suddenly china made them by the million
07:02 AM polprog: :(
07:02 AM polprog: yeah... they are master stealers
07:02 AM polprog: thats why i try to avoid jlc
07:02 AM rifraf: or the triplestruder that makerbot patented just after i put on thingiverse
07:02 AM polprog: i order from aisler if their process is compatible
07:15 AM rifraf: ok sneak preview, is spinning very slow, would normally take well over 1/2 hour to get to this speed, and go for another few minutes
07:16 AM rifraf: not on youtube sorry https://desire3d.com/images/public/top1.mp4
07:16 AM rifraf: left it sirty so you can see it move
07:16 AM rifraf: dirty*
07:18 AM rifraf: still cannot get over how it spins at less than 10 rpm for minutes
07:20 AM rifraf: and levitating on the ufo would be amazing
07:29 AM rifraf: https://desire3d.com/images/public/DSCF4556.JPG
07:33 AM rifraf: image a bit old, getting much better surface finish and polish now, and better radius on all the curves
07:35 AM rifraf: anyways, UFO is on the way, will know in a few weeks how well it actually works
07:40 AM rifraf: polprog are you using freecad 1.0? looks ok
07:41 AM polprog: i dont remember, been a while since i had to design something
07:41 AM rifraf: and is working with my 3d mouse immediatly
08:08 AM rue_mohr: lots of people are doing lots of things with freecad
08:11 AM rifraf: will try relearn again soon, for now need to do some rewiring, after sleep and friday
08:11 AM rifraf: see yas
08:13 AM rifraf: rue did you see the levitators
08:14 AM rifraf: had to buy one cause no one wants to try make a better one
08:14 AM rue_mohr: I did before, was this different?
08:14 AM rifraf: yeah, instead of hanging its a pushing one
08:15 AM rifraf: https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005008250564171.html
08:16 AM rifraf: i think will be good with spinning top and its platform
08:16 AM rifraf: and nicely packaged
08:17 AM rue_mohr: ok, start work at 7:30, half hour drive, so leave at 7
08:17 AM rue_mohr: 6 now, can chill for a minute
08:17 AM rifraf: have a look then
08:18 AM rifraf: and mine https://desire3d.com/images/public/top1.mp4
08:18 AM rue_mohr: hmm, usually they are attraction levitators...
08:18 AM rue_mohr: levitators sure are getting popular
08:18 AM rifraf: true, but ali had a few of the opposite, harder to keep stable
08:18 AM rue_mohr: magnetic and ultrasonic
08:19 AM rifraf: anyway i ordered one
08:19 AM rifraf: didn't buy a toy for ages
08:19 AM rue_mohr: mhm
08:20 AM rifraf: i need to support 120grams, and says its good for 350
08:20 AM rifraf: bought a 500g one but looked bit rough, so cancelled
08:21 AM rue_mohr: I wonder what the polarization is like on the levitated magnet
08:21 AM rifraf: not popular, is only me talking about them
08:21 AM rifraf: there is a video on the ali link
08:21 AM rue_mohr: surprised it doesn't look like its rare earth
08:21 AM polprog: hi rue_mohr
08:21 AM rue_mohr: hi
08:22 AM rifraf: or raw earth as rump would say
08:23 AM rifraf: few weeks ago he said about 10 times in conference how much he wants ukraines raw earth reserves
08:23 AM rifraf: was lol
08:23 AM rue_mohr: I wonder how much their farms will suffer during the fuel shortage
08:24 AM rifraf: now he wants control of all their power stations too
08:24 AM rifraf: that dick elensky has really sold out his country in front of his peoples nose, pretty sad
08:26 AM rifraf: thats what happens when you put a penis piano playing puppet in control though
08:26 AM rifraf: night now
08:27 AM rue_mohr: rump being like "just stop resisting russia and there will be peace" haha
08:27 AM rifraf: this guy knows a bit about levitation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xO9uNkeo6PQ
08:28 AM rue_mohr: you will find a lot of videos
08:28 AM rue_mohr: but
08:28 AM rifraf: watch with your tea before work
08:28 AM rue_mohr: do you know about the document from 1999 or so about high force electrostatic levitation?
08:28 AM rifraf: not familiar no
08:29 AM rue_mohr: yea, not heard of a 'lifter' have ya?
08:29 AM rifraf: just watch, i know you likely know already, he makes it simple
08:29 AM rifraf: indeed i have
08:29 AM rue_mohr: mm
08:29 AM rifraf: i just bought one
08:29 AM rue_mohr: lifters were out just a bit after
08:30 AM rifraf: lifters or repulsive are unstable, thats why easier to buy tested design
08:30 AM rue_mohr: ~2001
08:41 AM rue_mohr: ok, after work I NEED to get my income tax stuff done
08:41 AM rue_mohr: should take like 10 mins, I think
08:41 AM rue_mohr: then try to do slotting of sprayers
08:41 AM rue_mohr: will take a while, I need to clear some room on the deck
06:11 PM rue_mohr: I wish that what I wanted to do more often aligned to what I needed to do
06:18 PM * Tom_L twists the rubic's cube a bit to see if that helps
06:39 PM rue_mohr: ok, I'm gonna have a reset shower, then try to slot the tubes
06:39 PM rue_mohr: then income tax and rebuild app form for courier so I can submit it
06:46 PM aandrew: lol "reset shower"
07:26 PM rue_mohr: ok, slot tubes
07:26 PM rue_mohr: ok
07:36 PM Tom_L: tubes... not fingers rifraf
07:53 PM rue_shop3: ok done
07:53 PM rue_shop3: 4 tubes slotted
07:56 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, when you heading out then, a few weeks yet?
07:59 PM rue_mohr: http://media.ruemohr.org/images/p1340084.jpg
07:59 PM rue_mohr: thee is the router for the main slots down the side, I have to switch bits, so I do it in batches
07:59 PM rue_mohr: http://media.ruemohr.org/images/p1340085.jpg
08:00 PM rue_mohr: and this is the tablesaw jig I use to put the slot in the end
08:00 PM rue_mohr: one day, I can have my table router and tablesaw back
08:01 PM rue_mohr: it was kinda a scrap tablesaw someone left me, so, I'm not in any hurry for that
08:04 PM Tom_L: couple
08:06 PM rue_mohr: http://media.ruemohr.org/images/p1340086.jpg
08:06 PM rue_mohr: http://media.ruemohr.org/images/p1340087.jpg
08:06 PM rue_mohr: there are what the slots look like by the time its all done
08:07 PM rue_mohr: is that resolution more to the liking of you folk?
08:11 PM aandrew: man I am so so so so happy for media.ruemohr.org, thank you rue, my old blind ass can really appreciate your work better now
08:11 PM aandrew: what are you using to slot them?
08:11 PM rue_mohr: the router and tablesaw I just posted....
08:11 PM aandrew: looks like a standard router?
08:11 PM rue_mohr: yes
08:12 PM rue_mohr: carbide bit
08:12 PM aandrew: gotcha
08:12 PM aandrew: that must make one hell of a racket
08:12 PM rue_mohr: not more than usual
08:12 PM rue_mohr: aluminum is basically wood
08:12 PM aandrew: heh
08:13 PM rue_mohr: you know I take like 7000 photos a year, right?
08:14 PM rue_mohr: part of the reason I normally keep my camera at 3M is to manage storage space
08:15 PM aandrew: rue_mohr: if you fill the HDD that's on me. There's 1G avail but more ready to go
08:15 PM rue_mohr: I'm at 147G locally of just photos
08:16 PM aandrew: I understand, I'm willing to invest. :-)
08:16 PM rue_mohr: hah, your grave:]
08:16 PM aandrew: not to sound too much of a fanboi but you're worth it
08:16 PM * rue_mohr shakes his head with a confused look
08:17 PM rue_mohr: looks like I'm running about 20G/year locally
08:17 PM Tom_L: i've seen the jigs
08:17 PM rue_mohr: but its not all postable photos
08:18 PM aandrew: aha, I knew it
08:18 PM aandrew: rue's got an onlyfans
08:18 PM rue_mohr: hah, the first image of the year is always the inside of my fridge
08:18 PM rue_mohr: I need to track why its been getting so empty over the years
08:18 PM aandrew: https://ibb.co/GQSYR8ww <-- proof
08:18 PM rue_mohr: when there is nothing missing
08:19 PM aandrew: rue_mohr> hah, the first image of the year is always the inside of my fridge
08:19 PM aandrew: it's called eating my friend
08:19 PM rue_mohr: I used it once to track a bottle of ketchup back to 2004
08:19 PM rue_mohr: aandrew, pff, you can do better than that...
08:20 PM aandrew: rue_mohr: I haven't got the inclination to ask DALL-E to generate a photo of a pedestal fan wearing a bikini
08:20 PM Tom_L: installed my first android app not from a 'playstore'
08:20 PM Tom_L: .apk file pretty much just like a deb
08:21 PM rue_mohr: ;]
08:21 PM Tom_L: android package kit?
08:21 PM Tom_L: iirc
08:22 PM rue_mohr: http://media.ruemohr.org/images/p1340088.jpg <-- aandrew
08:26 PM rue_mohr: ?
08:41 PM rue_shop3: ok I'll do some corner rounind and attack the taxes
08:49 PM Tom_L: that corner jig never did quite work out did it?
08:50 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/Tube_slots/Drill_fixture_mods.JPG
08:50 PM Tom_L: that
08:52 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/Tube_slots/Tube_jig.jpg
08:52 PM Tom_L: rue cad
08:54 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/Tube_slots/Tube_clamp2.jpg
08:54 PM Tom_L: forgot i did those
09:03 PM rue_shop3: I made an adjusted version of it for faster development, but its not corrected yet
09:04 PM rue_shop3: taxes
09:04 PM rue_shop3: ugh, have to do the taxes
09:18 PM aandrew: rue_mohr> http://media.ruemohr.org/images/p1340088.jpg <-- aandrew
09:18 PM aandrew: lol
09:19 PM rue_mohr: wow, is trump really going to pick a war-war with china?
09:20 PM rue_mohr: is someone trying to trip people to kick him out?
09:20 PM aandrew: hm?
09:20 PM rue_mohr: its amazing how everyone is like "this is ok" so far
09:25 PM rue_mohr: ok I only have to fill in like 10 boxes, I can do this
09:26 PM Tom_L: it was an overwhelming majority vote
09:26 PM rue_mohr: credit union t5,check.
09:26 PM rue_mohr: T4 check.
09:26 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, to start a war with china?
09:27 PM Tom_L: no i don't really think that will happen
09:27 PM rue_mohr: rif didn't think the tariffs would happen
09:27 PM rue_mohr: what if it DOES
09:28 PM Tom_L: i don't tend to speculate
09:28 PM rue_mohr: right, so, your speculating he wont start a war?
09:28 PM rue_mohr: to be fair, I dont know where that came from
09:29 PM Tom_L: i'm not keeping score to be honest
09:29 PM rue_mohr: well, if he was going to start a war with china, there is nothing any of the public could do about it
09:31 PM Tom_L: he wouldn't dare interrupt the flow of ali orders for you
09:31 PM rue_mohr: china would NOT play nice if a war is started with them
09:32 PM aandrew: amazing, I see nothing about this in my various feeds
09:32 PM Tom_L: well we have a reputation as well
09:32 PM rue_mohr: well I REALLY hope its not true
09:33 PM Tom_L: incidentally i was watching a show on the future of aviation
09:33 PM Tom_L: mach9
09:34 PM Tom_L: lockheed martin are testing and have the power plant ready to strap into something
09:34 PM aandrew: my god the alberta premier is such an idiot
09:34 PM rue_mohr: wont argue that
09:35 PM rue_mohr: god my freaking downloads folder has SO MUCH JUNK
09:35 PM rue_mohr: and I just erased my other T5
09:35 PM Tom_L: i noticed mine was getting rather full too
09:36 PM Tom_L: don't know what half of it is now
09:36 PM rue_mohr: ok I got it down to 1.8G
09:36 PM rue_mohr: 246M ./veverak
09:36 PM rue_mohr: what even IS THAT!?!?!?!
09:40 PM aandrew: $ du -hs Downloads/
09:40 PM aandrew: 451G Downloads/
09:40 PM aandrew: <sideways looking cartoon creature>
09:44 PM rue_mohr: oh no, its the royal bank I need the T5 from
09:47 PM rue_mohr: oh damn, I dont know what box their going to ask for
09:47 PM rue_mohr: wtf why cant they just mail this damn thing to me
09:48 PM Tom_L: everything is online now
09:51 PM rue_mohr: except my ability to file my tax return
09:51 PM rue_mohr: without paying for an app
09:51 PM Tom_L: that's pretty easy here too now
09:52 PM Tom_L: you'd shit if you knew what i paid to have mine done
09:52 PM Tom_L: business/personal
09:53 PM rue_mohr: its even easier if you get them to do it for you by filing ON PAPER
09:56 PM rue_mohr: apparently I can put $170583 in my RRSP
09:56 PM rue_mohr: ...
09:56 PM rue_mohr: hahahaha
09:57 PM rue_mohr: ok, here it is, I need to fill in 10 boxes
09:57 PM rue_mohr: 15000
09:57 PM rue_mohr: ok, that needs math
09:58 PM rue_mohr: box 14...
10:02 PM rue_mohr: ok, this is going to be more work than I thought
10:05 PM rue_mohr: wait
10:05 PM rue_mohr: if I have a partnership that made money but I didn't get any of it, I dont think I declare it
10:06 PM rue_mohr: even if my partner died?
10:10 PM Tom_L: profit/loss statement
10:28 PM rue_mohr: whats amazing is how if you look enough times there is a section you could never find before
10:47 PM rue_mohr: I'm still in the same bracket
10:50 PM rue_mohr: I can make up to 111k in my 1-above-poor-ass bracket
11:09 PM rue_mohr: wholy crap my lower-hourly wage job is making me WAY more money
11:27 PM rue_mohr: .. I get $1600 back!?
11:27 PM rue_mohr: ok, whatever
11:27 PM rue_mohr: belive it when I see it
11:31 PM rue_mohr: wtf, the submit copy is missing
11:40 PM rue_mohr: damnit
11:40 PM rue_mohr: they sent the freaking workbook but not the forms
11:40 PM rue_mohr: then they sent the envelope to submit it
11:41 PM rue_mohr: oh wait, I'm a twatt
11:41 PM rue_mohr: I looked again and this time its here
