02:17 AM rifraf: rue yep they are nice eyes, he does some cool work
02:34 AM rifraf: birds not disappeared, but wanted to move in with me, so no more feeding for a bit, they need to be self sufficient, was just helping them get through the storm, we had some sunshine today, was so nice
03:01 AM rifraf: rue_mohr lets improve this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3UyL24n7_8
03:01 AM rifraf: i want a levitating pen holder
03:04 AM rifraf: and obviously a proper leviting spinning top that will go for several hours ?
03:12 AM rifraf: i have a top here that uses 9V battery to spin for days on end, is pretty cool but a gimmick, gets a bit noisy to leave on, will show you is you are interested
03:12 AM rifraf: the electronics are hidden in the base
03:14 AM rifraf: the top itself is just a lightweight thing with a magnet maybe
03:14 AM rifraf: wow i just spun it and still works, has been plugged in for months
04:26 AM rifraf: too true https://www.youtube.com/shorts/1OK-U55cMo8
04:51 AM Tom_L: :)
09:27 AM rue_mohr: aaaaaahhh, the speakers to my alarm were off
09:44 AM rue_mohr: sounds like musk is on a project to get rid of us social security too...
09:45 AM rue_mohr: I guess if he doesn't need it, its got to go
10:08 AM Tom_L: no, they were paying out to ppl listed at 150 yrs old
10:08 AM Tom_L: just cleaning up the fraud sir
10:54 AM Tom_L: A previous investigation revealed the SSA paid at least $71.8 billion in improper payments,” she said. “The Social Security Administration is now working to find even more waste, fraud, and abuse in the Administration’s whole-of-government effort to protect American taxpayers.
12:01 PM aandrew: it should be *trivial* to find out where the money for these 150yo is being deposited and charging them with fraud
12:02 PM aandrew: realistically, like almost everything else DOGE has been breathlessly tweeting about, I bet the reality is at least an OOM less than whatever they claim
12:04 PM aandrew: tightening up budgets, identifying waste and elminating it is an idea that I would think is universally desired. The approach is rather haphazard/slapdash and the "jerry springer" approach to the announcements is weak and unnecessary
12:35 PM aandrew: rue_mohr: got a pic of the "sentries" at your driveway? I want to show a friend
02:58 PM Tom_L: granted they may have stretched the number of them but it's still quite a few
02:59 PM Tom_L: haphazard is better than no action at all
03:00 PM Tom_L: in a positive way
03:02 PM aandrew: that's a point that I think is fairly contentious. I'd prefer a well researched, defensible approach, and Im sure the people getting fired and hired and fired and hired would appreciate not being jerked around either.
03:03 PM Tom_L: yeah i think most of them would like spending their days at home not paying for daycare etc
03:03 PM aandrew: it'd cost them $0 to do it right, but it feels like they want the soundbites/headlines even if it costs them
03:03 PM Tom_L: logging hours doing god knows what
03:04 PM Tom_L: govt employees..
03:05 PM Tom_L: there are so many leaks the bucket looks like it got hit with a shotgun
03:05 PM aandrew: would you rather be at home worrying about finding a job in a bad economy or working even if you had to pay daycare? If I'm dicking around on the clock I'd be worried about getting fired for sure, but saying that all the people fired were freeloaders seems kind of disengenuous
03:06 PM aandrew: yeah -- like I said I am 100% on board with cleaning house, tightening up budgets and making things run more smoothly. I don't htink anyone could argue against it
03:06 PM Tom_L: i was referring to having the govt employees return to their designated offices
03:07 PM aandrew: oh the RTO stuff
03:07 PM Tom_L: i don't necessarily agree with all the methods but somebody needed to clean house
03:07 PM Tom_L: and i avoid the news so most of what i get is 2nd hand
03:07 PM aandrew: as someone who very much likes working from home I'm against that but there MUST be accountabiity and I think that was missing in a lot of offices, so I get it
03:08 PM Tom_L: it was necessary during covid but not so much anymore
03:09 PM aandrew: COVID was able to demonstrate that we do not need all the expense of commercial real estate and time sink of commutes for a LOT of things. The pendulum's swinging the other way now for sure
03:09 PM Tom_L: no matter what is in place there will always be those taking advantage of it
03:10 PM aandrew: 100% agreed
03:10 PM Tom_L: as far as nato i think the contries not complying and relying on the US should also fess up
03:11 PM Tom_L: another sink the US is burdened with
03:11 PM Tom_L: you want help? here's what it costs
03:12 PM Tom_L: the election pretty well spoke for itself. ppl were fed up with the current condition
03:12 PM aandrew: I think everyone in NATO should be contributing what they said they would in order to be a member
03:13 PM aandrew: however I think the soft power the US has wielded so masteerfully is completely misunderstood by the current administration
03:13 PM aandrew: Pax Americana is on its way out and I really, really hate that
03:13 PM Tom_L: i doubt we will ever know the real truth no matter who presents it to us
03:13 PM aandrew: like you said though -- any system designed by humans will have people who exploit it
03:13 PM aandrew: again, 100% agreed
03:14 PM Tom_L: i do think he's a bit nuts though
03:14 PM Tom_L: but at least he can read a script
03:15 PM aandrew: I really want an upper limit on age for the presidency, just like we (I know, I'm not American but I do very much feel a fraternal bond with my brohters and sisters here in the US) have a minimum age
03:15 PM Tom_L: in reality it doesn't affect me that much anyway. i get up every day, go to work, pay taxes and take a day off now and then
03:16 PM aandrew: I feel like if there is a geezer who has all his marbles and wants to continue serving, a role as a senior advisor would be ideal. but not the top job
03:17 PM aandrew: yeah that's what I do too, I'm caught between sides but I am still pursuing a green card because I still really truly believe in the concept of american exceptionalism, this craziness won't last and I have faith that things will straighten out
03:18 PM Tom_L: it will be harder for you to get one now i hear
03:18 PM aandrew: it's kind of split on that -- being canadian might not be a positive thing right now but by the time my file's up maybe things will have sttled down
03:18 PM Tom_L: i think there was a freeze put on them to avoid the business going on to the south of us
03:19 PM aandrew: either way, I've invested an awful lot in this and a not ready to pack it in just yet
03:19 PM Tom_L: maybe they'll be the 51st state :)
03:19 PM Tom_L: kidding.. i can't really see that ever hapening
03:20 PM Tom_L: i know rue worries about being invaded :)
03:20 PM aandrew: I'm on TN right now, it expires next September, and once I file my ... I140? I can't remember the damn details now, I can't technically get it renewed so I have to have PR/GC by the time it expires or it's all over
03:20 PM Tom_L: i don't know about any of that stuff
03:21 PM aandrew: and while technically they will not renew a TN if I've filed the I140 since my intention is no longer temporary (which is the T in TN) but I've also heard that's entirely at the discretion of the person reviewing the TN renewal
03:21 PM aandrew: either way, I'm awful tired of living in interesting times. :-)
03:21 PM Tom_L: heh
03:22 PM Tom_L: well, the weather is better where you are than where you were
03:24 PM Tom_L: speaking of.. it's 73F here and i think i'm going out to enjoy some of it
03:32 PM aandrew: yeah today is super overcast and cold, but yesterday and day before were beautiful
03:32 PM aandrew: back home apparenlty is nice too, chilly still but sunny and above zero so everything's melting
03:44 PM rifraf: 50% tarriffs and a another chance for Canada to be the 51st state according to the news i just saw
03:44 PM rifraf: on steel and aluminium
03:47 PM aandrew: yep I say bring it
03:47 PM aandrew: sick of this shit
03:48 PM rifraf: same, a bit of diplomacy wouldn't be bad thing at this point
03:49 PM aandrew: the probem is that trump needs an out that allows him to save face and declare victory but he's painted himself in a pretty tight corner
03:59 PM Tom_L: are there any diplomats left in the world?
04:00 PM Tom_L: it is somewhat interesting seeing the view from the world looking in instead of from where i sit
04:01 PM aandrew: yeah I say the same -- it's interesting
04:02 PM aandrew: I just watched teh press secretary lie through her damn teeth and then try to act wounded for being called out on it
04:05 PM aandrew: it's fascinating in a frightening way to see how propaganda is spun and how people react to being questioned on their belief in it, even with irrefutable proof
04:05 PM rifraf: Tom_L there are some good ones, but the rest of the world refuses to speak with them
04:06 PM rifraf: aandrew yep too many people have become sheep
04:07 PM rifraf: hrm damn arduino is not working, and just got both cylinders attached to collet project
04:19 PM aandrew: I don't know that it's fair to say that -- there's considerable effort made to keep the waters muddy, to keep the population scared and isolated, and then feed them half truths while mocking any attempt to verify fact
04:19 PM Tom_L: rifraf, about ready to take it live?
04:19 PM Tom_L: the spindle..
04:20 PM aandrew: When you're working your ass off all week to keep food on the table you don't exactly have time or energy to do your homework, and we as society have largely delegated that to media, who are now working against us
04:20 PM Tom_L: aandrew, kinda reminds me of the old aircraft scares they had around here around thanksgiving / christmas time to keep all the workers on edge
04:21 PM rifraf: Tom_L still waiting on a few parts like bigger springs, but should not stop hooking it upto CNC controller soon
04:21 PM Tom_L: good stuff
04:21 PM rifraf: arduino just for testing first
04:22 PM rifraf: to start i figure will just use M9 (flood) to switch on and off as not using it
04:23 PM rifraf: so can at the least have collet control in the NC code to release at end of job
04:23 PM Tom_L: does your control allow you to run subroutines for stuff like that?
04:23 PM rifraf: it does have a bunch of unused M codes i can likely use is all
04:23 PM Tom_L: create a custom Mcode
04:23 PM rifraf: yep
04:24 PM Tom_L: last sub i wrote was for an automated hole pattern
04:24 PM rifraf: am tempted to get another ac servo for it now
04:24 PM Tom_L: my gui allows me to add a button for things like that
04:25 PM rifraf: so i can leave current headstock fully functional as spare and for another use
04:25 PM rifraf: yep, linuxcnc may be required in the future
04:25 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4SQ74QLO50
04:25 PM Tom_L: kindof a crappy video but gets the point across
04:26 PM Tom_L: drill, tap, counterbore
04:26 PM rifraf: ok, will study this arvo, almost work time
04:26 PM rifraf: did you look at the levitated vid?
04:26 PM Tom_L: yep
04:26 PM Tom_L: and the aussies acting amuck
04:26 PM rifraf: i want
04:26 PM rifraf: yes a funny bunch we are, and that was made in the actual cyclone
04:27 PM rifraf: just copying what everyone was actually doing
04:27 PM Tom_L: i've no doubt on that
05:00 PM rifraf: arduino still flashing ok, must have a connection wrong with fet board, anyways, ave a good day/night
08:44 PM rue_mohr: flashing?
08:44 PM rue_mohr: arg, I keep reflex biting my lip
08:45 PM rue_mohr: 3rd time in 4 days now
09:34 PM rue_shop2: rue_shop2> <rue_mohr> Ryan Dutcher: 3x 14" sprayers
09:34 PM rue_shop2: <rue_shop2> <rue_mohr> Drew Johnson: 2x 3", 2x 12"
09:36 PM rue_shop2: ok, I got 2 of the sprayers assembled
09:37 PM rue_shop2: I need to sand back the pipe profile on the heads (have to make a new sanding belt) and cut the front end of one of the tubes
09:57 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, wow, so no social security in the usa, that will save the government billions!
10:02 PM rue_mohr: I heard they gave people 30 days notice too
10:06 PM rue_mohr: adding a new receptacle at work today
10:07 PM rue_mohr: was re-using a conduit installed in 1963
10:07 PM rue_mohr: had a bit of fun following it cause in 1987 someone labeled a box with the wrong circuit numbers
10:08 PM rue_mohr: still have two circuits going to god-only-knows
10:19 PM Tom_L: no notice was sent to me
10:23 PM rue_mohr: ah well keep me updated on if it keeps working, I dont have a lot of sources of real information
10:24 PM rue_mohr: the 30 days was via a friend of one of the people at work
10:24 PM rue_mohr: florida I think
