11:05 AM aandrew: rue_shop2: interesting idea (stepper motor driver)
02:15 PM aandrew: ok... if I'm using an EI192 silicon steel core it looks like I might be able to get away with 220 turns on the primary for 240V and 22 turns on the secondary. Does that "smell" right to you rue_mohr?
02:17 PM aandrew: if I'm using a 70mm form and the laminations are 0.35mm thick, say 0.4 for slop, that looks like 70/.4 or 175-180 laminations.
02:18 PM aandrew: I wonder what the weight per lamination is. I can get 1kg of EI192 laminations off aliexpress for like $25 with free shipping
02:22 PM aandrew: if this alibaba chart can be trusted, it's saying 1.9kg/cm but that sounds ridiculous. that would mean each 0.35mm lamination weighs over a pound
02:26 PM aandrew: no wait I'm getting units mixed up. Each lamination is a little over a third of a mm (0.35mm) thick which also sounds suspect, but if it's true then there are 10mm/.35mm or 29 laminations per centimeter. 1.9kg/cm means each lamination weighs 65g which seems more reasonable
02:26 PM aandrew: but still... less than half a mm thick laminations?
02:29 PM aandrew: if I go from a 70mm thick stack to 60mm, it moves to 250 turns and (without wire) weigh 1.9*6... 11 kilos? smells like bullshit to me
06:36 PM rue_mohr: hi
06:37 PM rue_mohr: hmm
06:38 PM rue_mohr: what town are you in?
06:39 PM aandrew: me? I'm in Lake Forest or rather closer to Foothill Ranch
06:44 PM rue_mohr: 509 Biltmore Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801
06:44 PM rue_mohr: is that far away?
06:44 PM Tom_L: yes
06:44 PM rue_mohr: aandrew, ....
06:44 PM rue_mohr: :P
06:44 PM Tom_L: other side of the states
06:45 PM rue_mohr: oh, from andrew?
06:45 PM Tom_L: he's in california right?
06:45 PM rue_mohr: Lake Forest or rather closer to Foothill Ranch
06:45 PM Tom_L: Ca
06:45 PM Tom_L: ask google
06:45 PM rue_mohr: I'm trying, its being stupid
06:46 PM rue_mohr: is there no freaking hospital where he is?
06:46 PM Tom_L: one is closer to the east coast and the other is the west coast
06:47 PM rue_mohr: does his area of the usa not have a hospital at all?
06:47 PM Tom_L: why?
06:47 PM Tom_L: i'm sure there is
06:47 PM rue_mohr: I cant find it
06:48 PM rue_mohr: there are a bunch of "medical centers" but no hospitals
06:49 PM Tom_L: Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital
06:51 PM Tom_L: mmm that's illinois
06:51 PM rue_mohr: is that close to aandrew ?
06:51 PM Tom_L: no
06:52 PM rue_mohr: so the answer is that the us sucks and there are no hospitals anywhere near him...
06:52 PM rue_mohr: ugh
06:52 PM rue_mohr: :]
06:52 PM rue_mohr: how could there be no hospital
06:52 PM rue_mohr: I suppose theres no library either
06:53 PM Tom_L: why are you concerned?
06:54 PM rue_mohr: aandrew, orange county?
06:54 PM rue_mohr: cause I want to phone them tommorow and see if they have a transformer for aandrew
06:55 PM rue_mohr: wow, the govt office has a whole dept for people who go bankrupt
06:56 PM rue_mohr: where did google take me
06:56 PM rue_mohr: ugh
06:57 PM rue_mohr: I dont feel like fighting google right now
06:57 PM rue_mohr: looks like a huge place and there is no hospital
06:59 PM rue_mohr: medical plaza? wow, deeply privitized medical has a strange shape
06:59 PM aandrew: rue_mohr: one moment
06:59 PM aandrew: oh wait
06:59 PM aandrew: that's north carolina, that'st he other coast my dude
06:59 PM rue_mohr: thanks
07:00 PM rue_mohr: there is no hospital anywhere near or even far from you
07:00 PM aandrew: rue_mohr: there are hospitals. This isn't a gotta do it right now thing and I'm just playing with numbers for the time being
07:00 PM rue_mohr: cmon, I can just get you a core
07:00 PM aandrew: trying to get a handle on the size/scope because that's what I'm missing
07:00 PM rue_mohr: I want to have a chance hee
07:01 PM rue_mohr: here
07:01 PM aandrew: rue_mohr: I can get a core I'm sure. It's not *that* pressing yet which is why I'm being lazy about getting the physical core
07:02 PM aandrew: I work at a damned power electronics company building fusion generators and powerwalls... you'd think I couldn't go 10 feet without tripping over this shit but apparently not
07:02 PM aandrew: or I'm just not wandering through the right rooms here
07:02 PM rue_mohr: well there is no hospital and I'm suffering MAJOR dejavoo
07:03 PM rue_mohr: besides, like you said, you cant have their stuff
07:03 PM aandrew: and besides, I'm very much trying to do this under the radar. my official manager has some... odd... ideas about how things should be done so I'd rather just follow my usual "better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission" mantra
07:04 PM aandrew: there are probably three hospitals and two dozen clinics within 30m of me. I'm actually going to be at a hospital next week for an appt, if I haven't found one by then I'll ask there
07:05 PM rue_mohr: whats it called?
07:06 PM aandrew: EI192 cores don't seem to be that big but there's no way I need an 11kg (not counting wire) transformer for 1kVA
07:06 PM aandrew: what's what called, the hosptal?
07:06 PM rue_mohr: its all clinics, no hospitals
07:07 PM aandrew: CHOC is one, Kaiser Permanente is another, and there's also HOAG
07:07 PM aandrew: Kaiser Permanente is just fun to say out loud, I smile whenever I do
07:10 PM aandrew: I have been in a serious funk and lack of motivation for like 3 weeks now
07:10 PM rue_mohr: 4 years for me
07:10 PM aandrew: lots to do and some of it even pretty interesting/fun but zero gumption to actually get started
07:10 PM aandrew: 4 years is a long damn time
07:10 PM rue_mohr: yea
07:10 PM rue_mohr: I got on twitter to try to combat it
07:11 PM rue_mohr: it worked a bit
07:11 PM aandrew: hm
07:13 PM rue_mohr: "support services" no "Facilities managment" huh
07:14 PM rue_mohr: hmm
07:22 PM rifraf: we have 5C collets
07:31 PM rifraf: https://imgur.com/a/bISYUvM worth the extra $30 for box and 12 months warranty, and overnight delivery
07:34 PM Tom_L: nice
07:52 PM rue_mohr: what does the back look like?
07:52 PM rue_mohr: and its C5 isn't it?
07:52 PM rue_mohr: oh 5c, I see it there
07:53 PM rifraf: back has both internal and external thread
07:53 PM rifraf: and my taper made without a sample is no good
07:53 PM rifraf: but left green material to have a few goes
07:55 PM rifraf: need to cut a 1.238" x 20TPI internal thread now
07:56 PM Tom_L: special thread
07:56 PM rue_mohr: what angle
07:56 PM rue_mohr: 55 60?
07:58 PM rue_mohr: aandrew, oh, by low profile, do you mean your avoiding anything that might lead to guatanimo bay?
07:58 PM Tom_L: probably 60
07:59 PM Tom_L: https://www.chronos.ltd.uk/product/65pc-5c-collet-set/
07:59 PM rifraf: hopefully 60¯ that only internal cutter i have
08:00 PM Tom_L: 1 15/64" 20 tpi
08:00 PM Tom_L: internal or external?
08:00 PM Tom_L: ^^ would be the major diameter
08:00 PM rifraf: i need to make internal, to suit external on collet
08:01 PM Tom_L: so that number will vary a bit
08:01 PM rifraf: an starting around 30.3MM, thats the hole for thread currently
08:02 PM rifraf: must have calculated it somehow and left a tiny bit
08:02 PM Tom_L: Most are listed as outside thread: 1.240x20 and inside thread: 1.047x24, but one brand (Lyndex) lists OT: 1.238x20 and IT: 1.042x24.
08:02 PM rifraf: yep internal thread also odd, just a tad bigger than 1" and 24TPI
08:03 PM rifraf: i will ju
08:03 PM rifraf: jusd
08:03 PM rifraf: grr, just cut slowly till the collets fit neatly
08:03 PM Tom_L: i did an odd thread just to see if i could do both sides
08:04 PM rifraf: yep
08:04 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/Brass_cup/Brass_Cups5.jpg
08:04 PM rifraf: i got a small collet stop also that has uses the inside thread for a reference as well
08:04 PM Tom_L: single point milled
08:04 PM rifraf: and screws in nicely to these collets
08:05 PM rifraf: nice stash tin
08:05 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/Brass_cup/Brass_Cups8.jpg
08:06 PM rifraf: yep neat fit
08:48 PM aandrew: rue_mohr: lol no, meaning I don't want them telling me not to do it so I'll do it quietly
10:52 PM rifraf: do what?
11:07 PM rue_shop2: what?
11:36 PM rifraf: too scared to cut internal thread, time for a practive this time\
11:36 PM rifraf: well i did already practice, and thread was crappy, but used some aluminium bar i had cast myself
11:38 PM rifraf: lol
11:38 PM rifraf: i just tried to screw a 5C collet into my crappy thread test and it fits perfect
11:40 PM rifraf: tiny bit loose but wouldn't go that extra pass next time with a collet to test with
11:41 PM rifraf: pitch perfect and thats main thing, funny how easy imperial threads are to cut, i never make them
11:45 PM rifraf: but i still by habit do it the metric way, where once i start a cut cannot release the thread feed engagement, so much turning off and reversing motor while leadscrew always engaged
11:46 PM rifraf: cannot use the rotating counter dial for metric, so not even installed on lathe, till yesterday
11:48 PM rifraf: Tom_L did you see injection molder clamp?
11:49 PM rifraf: i saw rues castings, but not the injection machine , you guys did quite a bit of mold making
11:56 PM rifraf: got job interview tomorrow, if it works out Foxy may awaken
