03:03 AM VanUnamed_ is now known as VanUnamed
04:25 AM rue_mohr: the shed is gone!
04:25 AM rue_mohr: there were a few issues trying to line up the roof again, but it seems to be because the building was twisted (it hadn't been leveled
04:26 AM rue_mohr: so we got one edge and he's going to level it up
04:30 AM rue_mohr: ma phoned me at 2am and woke me up from a dream
04:30 AM rue_mohr: a nightmare
04:33 AM Tom_L: Merry Christmas
04:34 AM rue_mohr: :|
04:35 AM Tom_L: yay on the shed!
04:35 AM rue_mohr: do you have family stuff going on over there?
04:35 AM Tom_L: not much going on this year
04:36 AM rue_mohr: mm
04:36 AM rue_mohr: they are all dealing with their own lives
04:37 AM Tom_L: the 2 nieces my wife watches are with their dad this year
04:38 AM Tom_L: ours would rather sleep than celebrate
04:38 AM Tom_L: one worked yesterday and tomorrow
04:38 AM rue_mohr: how is the CNC industry going?
04:38 AM Tom_L: growing
04:39 AM rue_mohr: well
04:39 AM Tom_L: they added another cnc to his work cell so now i think there are 5
04:39 AM rue_mohr: I'm not sure if I should just stay up or try to get back to sleep
04:40 AM Tom_L: go back to sleep
04:40 AM rue_mohr: I presume there under full watch when running?
04:40 AM Tom_L: not necessarily
04:40 AM rue_mohr: hmm
04:40 AM Tom_L: there are 2 guys keeping them going non stop
04:41 AM rue_mohr: ah
04:41 AM rue_mohr: hmm, i got 1000 yellow leds...
04:41 AM Tom_L: they load up the pallets and store them once they're assigned to a job/machine
04:42 AM Tom_L: the rest is pretty automated
04:42 AM rue_mohr: they have to anchor and register the material right?
04:43 AM rue_mohr: setup tools and make sure a green program is suitable?
04:43 AM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXDYediryfg
04:43 AM Tom_L: that's the pallet changer
04:44 AM rue_mohr: ah
04:44 AM rue_mohr: you showed me that one
04:44 AM Tom_L: ok
04:44 AM rue_mohr: but first run I'd presume is 100% monitor
04:44 AM Tom_L: when he does a setup yeah
04:45 AM Tom_L: you could probably put 10 jobs on a pallet depending on the job
04:45 AM rue_mohr: so, its a lot of the same parts
04:45 AM rue_mohr: somehow, I would expect only runs of 2-3ea, and a lot of designs going thru
04:45 AM Tom_L: the pallet lays down to work on it
04:46 AM rue_mohr: someone else registers the material to the palette?
04:46 AM Tom_L: he does that too
04:46 AM rue_mohr: mm
04:48 AM rue_mohr: for machines like ours, it might be interesting to make 1/4" steel plates with registration pins to the table
04:48 AM rue_mohr: would probably need to be paired with a magnetic base
04:48 AM Tom_L: i did that with some of your parts
04:48 AM rue_mohr: hard to do without starting to stack the table too much
04:48 AM Tom_L: i can run 3-4 on the same plate
04:48 AM rue_mohr: hmm
04:48 AM rue_mohr: you got that vice tho
04:49 AM rue_mohr: I need to make stepped jaws for my vises
04:49 AM rue_mohr: being able to grab stuff like plate and blocks like that is great
04:49 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A8_new/A8_fixture.jpg
04:49 AM rue_mohr: I suppose I could make aluminum stepped jaws
04:49 AM Tom_L: that one uses locator pins and i just keep moving the material forward as it cuts
04:50 AM Tom_L: the first part drills the holes for the next part as it's running
04:50 AM rue_mohr: I think I was offsetting 22mm for that one?
04:50 AM Tom_L: i left enough room for the cutter not to hit the finished part
04:51 AM rue_mohr: I think my life is kinda frantic right now and I'm getting wigged out by it
04:51 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A8_new/A8%20profile2.jpg
04:52 AM Tom_L: you can see the 2 holes for the next part there
04:52 AM rue_mohr: but I also think I somehow inadvertantly contribute to setting the level
04:52 AM Tom_L: you tend to do that to yourself
04:52 AM rue_mohr: I like that method of scattering the process over a few itterations of the part
04:53 AM Tom_L: you can see there is very little waste
04:53 AM rue_mohr: yea, too many fish in the fryer
04:53 AM Tom_L: bottom of that last pic you can see a pin to locate the stock
04:54 AM rue_mohr: I suppose one could have it clean the extra tabs out from the previous piece too
04:54 AM Tom_L: there are a couple of those
04:55 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A9_New/A9-A10_fixture1.jpg
04:55 AM Tom_L: same plate running A9
04:55 AM Tom_L: same x y zero
04:56 AM Tom_L: so once the plate is set i can run 3-4 different parts on that same setup
04:56 AM rue_mohr: :]
04:56 AM rue_mohr: they were supposed to pick up the repairs yesterday and didn't
04:57 AM Tom_L: i run A12 in the vise jaws
04:57 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A12_New/A12_P1_1.jpg
04:58 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A12_New/A12_P2_1.jpg
04:58 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A12_New/A12_P2_2.jpg
04:59 AM Tom_L: hardly any cleanup on those. they're pretty much done all on the cnc
04:59 AM rue_mohr: I always try to make a job a 1-go op
04:59 AM Tom_L: i like efficiency
04:59 AM Tom_L: if i had a tool changer it would be much quicker
05:00 AM rue_mohr: some of your latches already came back in repairs
05:00 AM rue_mohr: broken heads
05:00 AM Tom_L: broken A9?
05:00 AM rue_mohr: I think the origional guys late model heads might hold up better
05:01 AM rue_mohr: A9/10
05:01 AM rue_mohr: they tear that thin bit
05:01 AM rue_mohr: some people just rip the can out
05:01 AM Tom_L: ahh
05:01 AM Tom_L: shame on them
05:01 AM rue_mohr: $75 for a new head...
05:02 AM rue_mohr: (lots of work on my part to assemble the damn things)
05:02 AM Tom_L: that may make them pause a little
05:02 AM rue_mohr: no, loggers
05:02 AM Tom_L: dumb?
05:02 AM rue_mohr: strange grou'
05:02 AM Tom_L: i bet
05:03 AM rue_mohr: you send an email with 4 questions and they reply with just the first answer
05:03 AM Tom_L: send 4 emails
05:03 AM Tom_L: that would really confuse them
05:03 AM rue_mohr: I think I tried that
05:04 AM rue_mohr: well, I'm gonna try to get more sleep
05:04 AM rue_mohr: good talkin
05:04 AM Tom_L: i'll probably lay back down a while too
05:07 AM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmYTAe-OrGc
05:07 AM Tom_L: check out that cutter :)
12:12 PM rue_mohr: woof, I got a glimpse before the ad
12:14 PM rue_mohr: I missed a visitor
12:14 PM rue_mohr: they didn't ring the doorbell tho
08:42 PM VanUnamed_ is now known as VanUnamed
11:27 PM rue_mohr: I dont use the menu key, is it supposed to be a modifier?
11:27 PM rue_mohr: like shift and alt?
11:27 PM rue_mohr: I kinda dont think so
