04:04 AM Tom_L: morning
05:21 AM JT-Cave: morning
07:01 AM rdtsc-w: TGIF
07:03 AM JT-Cave: and the weekend is here already
07:07 AM JT-Cave: https://www.raspberrypi.com/documentation/computers/linux_kernel.html
07:07 AM JT_Rpi5: thanks
07:47 AM Tom_L: you building a kernel for it?
07:50 AM JT-Cave: yup, at least attempting to
07:56 AM lcnc-relay: <ccatlett1984@> Oh neat. I need to rebuild my pi soon, SSD is throwing read errors
08:10 AM JT-Cave: hmm the rpi5 is done with make
08:10 AM Tom_L: why?
08:10 AM Tom_L: ccatlett, get an nvme.
08:11 AM Tom_L: i got one not for speed but read/write cycles
08:11 AM Tom_L: i saw SD not SSD.. nevermind
09:09 AM rdtsc-w: wonder how a NVME could be used with the 7c80
09:11 AM rdtsc-w: looks like https://forum.linuxcnc.org/54-user-exchange/48068-for-sale-mesa-7i92-mx4660-mesa-7c80-rpi-4?start=0#gallery-4
09:41 AM JT-MShop: hmm engine is mounted on the splitter but now I have to take some of it apart to hook up the kill switch wire
09:45 AM rdtsc-w: because yanking the spark plug to kill it is No Fun (tm)
09:46 AM rdtsc-w: had to do that one, what, on a 90cc dirtbike. yeeeeowzers
09:47 AM rdtsc-w: learned my lesson - just dump the clutch :)
09:51 AM JT-Shop: well with no blade on it you can't just run it over a stump to kill it
10:09 AM rdtsc-w: covering the intake also works
10:15 AM JT-Shop: if you can get to it yup
10:15 AM JT-Shop: and it runs
10:34 AM JT-Shop: but surges at full throttle so maybe the carb needs cleaning after sitting for years up on my shelf
10:35 AM JT-Shop: it idles fine...
10:41 AM JT-Shop: those motors came from the Rolla Mo plant which closed in 2007...
11:51 AM JT-Cave: well getting preempt_rt on the rpi5 was easy
11:52 AM rdtsc-w: was it in apt?
11:52 AM JT-Cave: no, you still have to build the kernel but you don't have to patch it anymore
11:53 AM rdtsc-w: oh, nice
12:18 PM Tom_L: you goin about it the hard way?
12:19 PM Tom_L: rdtsc, you might have to mount the nvme on the top but i don't see why it wouldn't work
12:19 PM JT-Cave: who?
12:19 PM Tom_L: i put mine underneath the pi
12:19 PM Tom_L: you
12:20 PM Tom_L: just wondering why you were building a kernel
12:20 PM JT-Cave: no, I got a nice desktop to boot
12:20 PM JT-Cave: I don't like the emc one
12:20 PM Tom_L: :)
12:20 PM Tom_L: mate?
12:20 PM JT-Cave: not sure
12:20 PM JT-Cave: I just downloaded the latest one for the pi
12:20 PM * JT-Cave heads out
12:20 PM Tom_L: things compile rather quick on the rpi5
12:23 PM Tom_L: JT take notes :)
12:24 PM Tom_L: rdtsc-w, are those pics of your setup?
12:24 PM JT-Cave: I am
12:24 PM Tom_L: did you figure out wifi?
12:25 PM Tom_L: weekend is here
12:27 PM JT-Shop: it just worked
12:46 PM Tom_L: did you load the linuxcnc image though?
12:46 PM Tom_L: that may have been where i ran into issues
01:02 PM rdtsc-w: no Tom, just a pic of how tight the mounting is
01:08 PM Tom_L: the stock nvme hat fits on top anyway
01:08 PM Tom_L: but it doesn't take the long ssd
02:39 PM JT-Mobile: Weingarten vineyard
