04:46 AM Tom_L: morning
04:49 AM JT-Cave: morning
07:21 AM rdtsc-w: ing-morn
08:47 AM Tom_L: already 80F - hi 95F
08:55 AM JT-Shop: same here
08:55 AM Tom_L: better get your doin done early
10:55 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> good morning....... chilly here now. 59.9. forecast mid 70's
10:56 AM Tom_L: i'll take some of that
10:58 AM JT-Cave: so measuring the ground cable I see that one of the clamp bolts has rotted out and it's not holding anymore
10:59 AM Tom_L: probably green wire too
11:00 AM JT-Cave: a bit green but not bad
11:01 AM JT-Cave: no one in town has a 00 battery cable so I'll have to order one
11:01 AM rdtsc-w: have anything you could pilfer one from?
11:02 AM rdtsc-w: maybe spare parts for an old car :)
11:03 AM Tom_L: what i'm wondering is if you will remember why you needed the 310A after you get it running
11:05 AM rdtsc-w: any junkyards nearby? might be able to find something usable for cheap
11:08 AM JT-Cave: I need it to load the surface grinder on my trailer and I'll just get a new end for it for now
11:08 AM Tom_L: ahh that makes sense
11:28 AM Tom_L: an old fix for the green copper was to dip it in coke for a while then clean it off
11:28 AM Tom_L: the citric acid supposedly will clean it up
11:29 AM Tom_L: i've used baking soda
11:45 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> ok, time for a casual ride...... bbl
12:00 PM rdtsc-w: those crusty green cables are awful... usually just cut the bad part off, if there's length
12:03 PM rdtsc-w: get it all together, heat it with a hair dryer, and melt wax into the wires - keeps moisture and acid out (but impossible to rework except to cut more off)
02:38 PM JT-Shop: I might still need a new battery... but it does crank a bit now
03:05 PM Tom_L: it may just not have been getting charged with the bad connection
03:07 PM JT-Shop: the charger was on the battery post clamp so it should have gotten a full charge
03:07 PM JT-Shop: the battery was totally flat when I went to start it so chances are it's compromised
03:08 PM rdtsc-w: can you service the cells?
03:08 PM JT-Shop: they have caps
03:08 PM rdtsc-w: open each and check for water level - if low, add distilled water
03:09 PM rdtsc-w: could get a density tester (acid concentration) but might just have a low one
03:09 PM JT-Shop: I checked them at the start of this project
03:09 PM JT-Shop: I actually have one somewhere
03:13 PM rdtsc-w: wifey's parents got their last home near us, had a 12V marine battery back-up for the sump pump - measured as 4.0V... checked the cells, all were fine... gave it a charge, only got up to 9V, so one cell definitely dead - time for a new one
03:14 PM JT-Shop: sump pump is DC?
03:16 PM rdtsc-w: no, the alarm on it is. would make more sense to put a DC pump in there too :)
03:26 PM rdtsc-w: well wait a minute... think there could have been a 2nd pump in there, and it was just removed. so anyways, they need a whole new setup
03:50 PM JT-Shop: I had put the old key switch back in because the new one was stripped but the old one you have to push the key in for the acc contacts to work... it never ends
03:54 PM JT-Shop: https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c/dorman-conduct-tite/dorman-conduct-tite-30-amp-starter-switch/cti0/85936
03:54 PM JT-Shop: guess I'll try a dorman switch in the morning
03:56 PM JT-Shop: looks like it's a crap shoot
03:56 PM rdtsc-w: might be possible to pop the existing one open and service it, if you're good with fiddly stuff
03:57 PM JT-Shop: it's pretty well crimped together
03:58 PM JT-Shop: I should just put a toggle switch and a push button
03:58 PM Tom_L: you'll have a new deere by the time you're done
03:58 PM JT-Shop: I doubt that lol
03:59 PM xxcoder: youre right, tires is probably fine
03:59 PM JT-Shop: tires are new! well pretty new...
