04:26 AM JT-Cave: morning
06:00 AM Tom_L: morning
09:45 AM lcnc-relay: <nutlinux@> On the topic of tires I just want to say I'm a huge fan of Goodyear and Toyo.
09:45 AM lcnc-relay: <nutlinux@> They last quite a long time.
09:46 AM lcnc-relay: <nutlinux@> And depending on which ones you go with they stick to the track like glue.
09:47 AM lcnc-relay: <nutlinux@> If you don't get a lot of rain and in warm conditions I highly recommend the Goodyear Supercar 3R, they're the OEM tire for the Camaro ZL1-1LE which is basically a street legal racecar.
09:48 AM lcnc-relay: <nutlinux@> If you want something more conservative that will last longer, the Supercar 3 (non-R)
09:49 AM lcnc-relay: <nutlinux@> As for Toyo, the R888R is a DOT-compliant track tire (street legal) and the Toyo Proxes Sport if you're looking for more of a road tire.
09:51 AM lcnc-relay: <nutlinux@> I've heard good things about the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 and Bridgestone just recently came out with a newer, improved version of the infamous RE-71R... The RE-71RS.
09:54 AM lcnc-relay: <nutlinux@> Another solid option is the Yokohama ADVAN A052, great for the track and the road, handles the rain surprisingly well for such an aggressive tire.
09:55 AM lcnc-relay: <nutlinux@> Pirellis are overrated.
09:58 AM JT-Cave: I get OEM Michelin Pilot Sport All Season on the C8
10:00 AM lcnc-relay: <nutlinux@> Why would you put All seasons on a C8?
10:01 AM lcnc-relay: <nutlinux@> Do you drive it in the snow?
10:03 AM lcnc-relay: <nutlinux@> The Proxes Sport is much cheaper and will handle all-weather conditions just fine
10:09 AM JT-Shop: I drive all year and in temperatures well below summer only tires and I have to drive 0.6 mile on a crushed limestone road to get the the asphalt so summer only tires would pick up a billion rocks each way
10:12 AM lcnc-relay: <nutlinux@> The Proxes Sport comes in an all season variant too.
10:13 AM JT-Shop: they are not run flat tires
10:14 AM JT-Shop: thanks but I'll stick to the tires designed for the car
10:14 AM JT-Shop: which makes me wonder what tires come on the 233 MPH ZR1?
10:15 AM lcnc-relay: <nutlinux@> Run flats generally perform worse than non run flats.
10:16 AM JT-Woodshop: run flats allow you keep driving when your 50 miles from help
10:17 AM JT-Woodshop: I won't put run flats on my C3 because it has a spare tire, jack and lug wrench
10:17 AM lcnc-relay: <nutlinux@> The ZTK performance package comes with the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R which is Michelin's top track tire, same tire they use on the 458 Italia and Porsche GT3 RS
10:18 AM lcnc-relay: <nutlinux@> Otherwise it comes with the Pilot Sport 4S
10:18 AM lcnc-relay: <nutlinux@> Considering your use, you definitely don't want the Sport Cup 2Rs.
10:18 AM JT-Woodshop: I assume the ZTK package is what they used to run 233 mph?
10:19 AM JT-Woodshop: I've put 29k miles on the C8 since June 23 so it's not a garage queen :)
10:20 AM lcnc-relay: <nutlinux@> Yes
10:20 AM JT-Woodshop: cool
10:23 AM JT-Woodshop: in any case it's time to get the power steering control valve off of the C3
10:34 AM JT-Woodshop is now known as C3-Shop
10:35 AM * C3-Shop was trying to figure out how to hit the ball joint removal tool with a hammer as it was as tight as it could go and bam it came loose
10:40 AM Tom_L: kid wants a bike now

10:41 AM JT-Shop: mine had a 3 speed hub
10:42 AM JT-Shop: harley's are over rated
10:42 AM Tom_L: you can't tell them
10:42 AM Tom_L: some street version
10:43 AM JT-Shop: https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGQq0XNoDZtwHiopZ7cj-xbhiKu7TMYgz0iiulRDJMo_u8pRdPxqhGuGrlWUX2wREDn5LObaSNRpdpgE3CBvXMy4IgWSoLdZpTUlS442OEb8Is9A18CZftkqUa3bm_MhH9o5Te1G8XZ4Tx/s320/IMG_2184.HEIC
10:43 AM Tom_L: classic
10:43 AM JT-Shop: a friend has a harley trike and he's had a lot of issues with it
10:44 AM Tom_L: like what?
10:44 AM JT-Shop: including an expensive radio replacement
10:44 AM JT-Shop: trunk won't stay closed, reverse went out geez I can't remember them all
10:45 AM Tom_L: i don't know much about either one
10:45 AM JT-Shop: Honda has much better quality but if you want vibration and loud noise a harley is for you LOL
10:45 AM Tom_L: kids will be kids
10:45 AM Tom_L: even in thei'r 60's
10:46 AM JT-Shop: yup
10:47 AM JT-Shop: I've had the Bluewing since 2009 and the only thing besides normal maintenance is a set of fork seals
10:47 AM Tom_L: you put those in yourself didn't you?
10:48 AM JT-Shop: yup
10:49 AM Roguish: good morning.....
10:49 AM Roguish: chilly, but clear and sunny. high today about 55
11:28 AM JT-Shop: ugly day here
11:29 AM Tom_L: chilly but nice here
11:29 AM Tom_L: super for February
11:33 AM JT-Shop: I have to pull the power steering pump to replace the hoses but it looks pretty easy
11:34 AM JT-Shop: I think...
11:37 AM lcnc-relay: <zincboy_ca_on@> nutlinux@: Did you know that the expected life of a Cup 2 tire is 20 min on the track? This is from Michelin after someone I know went off the track backwards after cording his tires on a C7. They are not a real street tire and only for setting marketing numbers.
11:38 AM JT-Shop: you should see the walls of used tires at Ron Fellows
11:40 AM lcnc-relay: <nutlinux@> I never said they were my choice, I don't buy Michelin.
11:55 AM * JT-Cave hears a nap calling his name
05:41 PM lcnc-relay: <ntulinux2467@> the 2005 united states grand prix really made em look bad
05:45 PM JT-Shop: made who look bad?
05:50 PM xxcoder: michelin I guess
06:28 PM JT-Shop: power steering pump is out... next is the steering gearbox
06:28 PM Tom_L: nice
06:28 PM Tom_L: the whole front end will be sparkling new now
06:29 PM JT-Shop: once I got the control valve and actuator off the pitman arm had play left/right and up/down so time to rebuild it
06:29 PM Tom_L: is the pump noisy?
06:30 PM JT-Shop: not that I can hear but the exhaust is not caddy quiet :)
06:30 PM Tom_L: yeah just crank up the radio and all the problems disappear :)
06:30 PM lcnc-relay: <ntulinux2467@> yes michelin
06:31 PM JT-Shop: there is a rebuild section in the service manual for the pump
06:31 PM xxcoder: or become deaf, then ALL audio issus dissappear
06:31 PM Tom_L: i've never tried rebuilding a pump or the steering boxx
06:31 PM JT-Shop: wow a 20 year grudge
06:31 PM JT-Shop: the steering gearbox doesn't look bad at all to rebuild
06:31 PM lcnc-relay: <ntulinux2467@> xxcoder, if it's ok that i ask, and it's ok if you don't want to talk about it, but were you born dead?
06:31 PM lcnc-relay: <ntulinux2467@> *deaf
06:31 PM lcnc-relay: <ntulinux2467@> sorry
06:32 PM xxcoder: lol
06:32 PM xxcoder: yeah and no problem
06:34 PM xxcoder: waardensberg syndome
06:35 PM lcnc-relay: <ntulinux2467@> ah, ok, thanks! i was always curious.

06:42 PM JT-Shop: it's dark here and the deer have just come out of the woods for dinner under the carport

06:42 PM JT-Shop: they just started back a few weeks ago
06:42 PM JT-Shop: when the acorns started falling they prefer that
